My girlfriend and I recently visited Albivi Brick Oven in Millstone for the first time, and unfortunately, it will also be our last. We typically enjoy an early Saturday dinner so we can spend a quiet evening together. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, so we were looking forward to a relaxing meal. Unfortunately, our experience started on the wrong foot. Our waiter greeted us without a smile and seemed unfriendly throughout the evening. We ordered appetizers, but no appetizer plates were provided. We had to ask for them because it appeared we were expected to use the small bread plates. After finishing our appetizers, the dirty dishes remained on our table for quite a while, even though the restaurant was empty. We ended up drinking our wine while looking at dirty plates waiting to be cleared. The biggest disappointment came later. A couple arrived with two young children, and despite the restaurant having plenty of empty tables, they were seated directly behind my girlfriend. One child was running around on the floor while the other repeatedly banged on the booths and walls. We have children ourselves and truly enjoy being around families, so this is not a complaint about kids. The issue was that there were many other seating options available, including another dining room with other families, yet they were seated immediately next to us in an otherwise quiet dining area. When the noise continued to escalate, I politely spoke with our waiter and explained the situation. His response was simply, "What do you want me to do?" I then asked to speak with the owner, but the owner never came out to address our concerns. By that point, we had eaten only about half of our meals. We asked for the check, and only then did the waiter offer to move us. Unfortunately, by then the evening had already been ruined. We paid our bill, left the rest of our dinners behind, and left the restaurant. This wasn't the children's fault. Children will be children. The disappointment was in how the situation was handled. When customers are spending well over $100 for dinner in a restaurant that is nearly empty, they expect a pleasant dining experience and attentive customer service. A simple decision to seat the family elsewhere or a willingness to address our concern promptly could have completely changed the outcome. It's unfortunate because the restaurant itself is attractive, and the food was good. However, good food alone cannot overcome poor service and a lack of consideration for the overall dining experience. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more

We arrived a bit early but they welcomed us nicely and said they will check on our table. Once we were seated, our waiter, Durin, came and greeted us warmly. We started off with bread, wine and oil and garlic dipping. Once we ordered our appetizers, clams in white wine sauce and a chopped Romaine salad with the kitchen sink in it, we jumped in immediately and enjoyed every morsel of both. The waiter took his time retuning, knowing we were not in a rush. We ordered our sausage, broccoli rabe and penne, and eggplant parmigiana and both dishes came out heat hot, just as we requested and were very tasty to the palate. We sat outside and it reminded me of Italy. Overhead lights on the umbrellas along with flowers and plants all around you and soothing music. It was festive and colorful. You were also able to have a conversation, as it was not too noisy.We had a lovely experience and would certainly go back. read more

Located in the wilds of Millstone and off the beaten track, you practically have to be a local to arrive at Albivi. Cute and always full on a weekend, the menu is has all the Italian staples you'd expect. Some are better than others; over the years I'm pretty sure we've sampled most, if not all, of the offerings. Albivi literally sits on a dark, narrow 2 lane country road in tiny Millstone and driving there one dark night under the anemic glow of sparsely spaced street lamps one wonders if they were lost.... but no....up ahead.... Lights.... and there it is..Dressed up like Nonna before Christmas mass. Albivi Brick Oven Pizza. Interior is classic "Mulberry Street Little Italy"all grapevines, straw wrapped wine bottles and preserved peppers in tall jars displayed proudly in front of a well used brick pizza oven... so far so good. Seated at a cozy table in the primary dining room a plate of olive oil with some delightfully sweet garlic cloves and warm bread soon appears. We ordered the personal pizzas and drank in the atmosphere.... several full tables of families sharing salads, anti pasto and wine on a Tuesday night...Nice and comfortable. Soon our pizzas showed up and my Vegas pie with fried potatoes, bacon and a herb dressing was decent even if the potatoes did taste like it inhabited the walk-in too long. The Wife's anchovy pie was the hit of the night with it's subtle saltiness winning the flavor lottery that night. Menu is quite large with a focus on southern Italian classics and a enthusiastic owner was quite vocal in the fact we should order the specials our next visit.....And perhaps we will. Albivi is a good little find with a good menu and fair prices but the thing I see that would bring people back to this hidden gem is the venue, service and friendly family vibe.... After a long day at 6 flags, my friends and I were having a hard time finding a good place to eat. Either everything was closing in 20 minutes OR in 40 miles away NYC. I have no clue what we selected - but while driving down a residential area, I noticed this building that looks more fitting for an Italian Villa than NJ. So we took a chance.... We were not disappointed! The staff treated us like family. First we started with coffee because two of our party are coffee experts. We both appreciated the cinnamon in the cappuccino and were very happy the drink. All the food was great. The group was passing around plates, sharing opinions of the fresh made gnocchi or fresh pasta. My order was the gnocchi; it was memorable. One friend ordered a magaritta pizza but devoured IT ALL as quick as possible and stated that it was too good to share. It was so memorable and we are planning to be back when in the area. read more

Sometimes, good food just isn't enough. Unfortunately, we discovered that firsthand during our visit to this restaurant. I had made a reservation for 5 adults and one child at 5:30 PM. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. We ordered appetizers, salads, entrées, and dessert. Everything was moving along nicely, and we were truly enjoying our evening celebrating my husband's birthday with family. By 7:10 PM, we had just finished dessert and were waiting for the check when a man--who I believe may have been the owner or the chef--approached our table. What he said shocked us: "I'm so sorry, but you're going to have to leave. Someone else has reservations and we need the table." We hadn't even received the check yet. My entire family was stunned. I've never been asked to leave a restaurant before, especially not in the middle of paying the bill. I was so surprised I didn't know what to say, except, "Okay." He offered a handshake and then walked away. Strangely, it then took nearly ten more minutes for our waiter to return with the check and process our payment. What had been a lovely evening quickly turned uncomfortable and disappointing. We left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome on what was supposed to be a happy occasion. Good food doesn't make up for poor hospitality. I hope this feedback encourages the restaurant to reconsider how it handles situations like this in the future. I've come here many times, especially for matzo pizza during Passover. We brought family from out of state tonight. The seafood dish was very overcooked. It was sent back and the chef came out and created a very uncomfortable situation and scene in-front of the other customers by confronting my sister in law about there not being anything wrong with the dish. He took the piece of calamari and began to pull it apart stating it was not rubbery and she had to pay for her dish. There were 8 of us tonight and rest a sure, none of us will ever return to this restaurant again! read more

We went to Albivi with a party of 16. The restaurant was very accommodating to our large party. The food was all served at the same time and was excellent. There were a couple of other large parties there that night and the wait staff was working very hard which caused drink refills to be slow to non-existent. I'm looking forward to my next visit when I hope to be able to give a 5 star rating. This restaurant is definitely worth a try. You won't be sorry. read more

My husband and I are from out of town and visiting family and friends. There were 8 of us dining last night! I love Italian food, and one of my go-to meals is Zuppa di Pesce and broccolini! Our server, Don, is a warm, kind, and patient man, and we enjoyed having him with us. However, the reason for this review is the disgraceful, disgusting, and rude behavior from the Chef/owner. My mother and aunt ordered mussels in white wine sauce a typical dish and politely asked our server please make sure that no extra salt is added. Not a problem, they were told! When they arrived, the salt level in the sauce was incredibly over the top, and they were sent back. I tried the sauce myself and agreed. Don politely apologized, but he relayed their message and wasn't in control of how it came from the kitchen! It was when my meal arrived that it all fell apart! The broccolini was ice cold, sitting in lots of water, and tasteless! My $40 Zuppa de Pesce loaded with seafood was overcooked, and the calamari, shrimp, mussels, scallops, and salmon were rubbery and overdone! There was no flavor. I asked to please make it spicy, and it sat in what looked like tomato water! I love good food, and this was not it! I tried one mussel, one piece of calamari, and pushed my plate away! Like I said, it looked overdone when served, but I tried it. The fireworks went off when I explained to Don, our server, about the meal, and he politely asked if I would like it redone, or something else? I said No, thank you as we had a show to attend. The Chef came flying out of the kitchen and demanded who had ordered the dish. I said I did! He screams and shouts in the whole dining room in front of everyone that this is good food, he cooks this dish over 100 times a week, and there is nothing wrong with the food. I tried to answer his question honestly and politely, saying I was sorry, that the seafood was overdone and rubbery. It happens! He told me that I was paying for the food because he wouldn't lose $50! Again, in a calm manner, I said Excuse me, but I didn't eat the meal and had no intention of paying for it. He then grabs the calamari from the dish and starts ripping it to pieces in our faces, screaming it wasn't rubbery and the clams, whoever sent them back, were not full of salt! We told him the ladies you're referring to ordered mussels, and he used clam juices, not a white wine sauce! And, it was sent back because they asked for no added salt! He screamed at me again, said he would never serve any of us again, and stormed off. We had to wait for our check, and our kind server took off the mussels and my dish since neither was eaten, so we left. Thanking the wait staff, since they were not the problem. My sister-in-law, her friends, and many other people they know who go to this place often were appalled by the chef's disgusting behavior. They all go during Passover because he serves matzo pizza, which is lovely and appreciated! She told him they had gone often, and never had she encountered this disgraceful behavior! He told her they sent it back because they didn't want to PAY FOR THEIR MEAL! She told him, you have no right to say that her sister and husband are more than capable, and you were RUDE to everyone, and we and others will never return! I found this out when we all got into the car. I would suggest to others that you read people's reviews--yes, the ones that are ONE STAR! There is a reason behind them. All of these reviews are because the chef/owner is over-the-top rude and disrespectful to his patrons! To the staff, you didn't cook the food, and the EIGHT OF US THANK YOU! So here we go. I just came from this restaurant celebrating my birthday with family. I'll assume it was the owner who came over to our table to ask us to leave. He said he had other customers that had a reservations waiting. Really, ironically we had reservations also, ironically when he asked us to leave we didn't even have our check yet. We finally had our check delivered and waited another 10 minutes for the waiter to come back and take the check. This is all after we were asked to leave. Getting use to the area we stumbled into this restaurant off the side of the road. Service with a smile from my waiter, Agon and the kitchen staff was prompt and efficient with serving us a family Sunday lunch. Seating inside was spacious between tables and covid protocols were in place. There is an additional space for outdoor dinning during warmer months. This place is always packed and I'm not entirely sure why. I did do a takeout order and maybe it's different when you're eating there. I ordered a few pizzas for 5pm and when I got there it was sitting on the counter and was not hot. I ordered wings and my kids were offended by the smell. And the salad - LORD!!! It was $15 and it was the size of a small side salad and my lettuce was definitely not fresh. One of the worst dining experiences ever. Our favorite seafood is calamari and we ordered it "sautéed" as an appetizer. This came out bland and stringy and every piece was uniformed and looked the same, clearly frozen. We also ordered a few custom dishes, for example I had shrimp and calamari, with oil and garlic with a side of broccoli rabe. Joke was on us that we didn't k ow the calamari situation before ordering our mains. My wife had also fell into this trap ordering the zuppa da pesce. Immediately as our entrees came out they were inedible. Every calamari ring and shrimp were clearly frozen and gross. We called over the server and she "checked with the kitchen" saying that it was fresh and it was the, "way we ordered it". Insisting to talk to the manager he came out and told us we shouldn't have ordered it if we didn't like it. I was very pleasant trying to pay the check and just wanted him to take off the zuppa da pesce and he started an argument with me telling me that he never wants to see my face in there again (won't be coming back) and that he goes through 200lbs of calamari a week. Telling me that I should have ordered it fried and that it was the severs fault for ordering it how I wanted it. Again, I eat calamari all the time, ordering it sautéed, grilled, would have no difference on the taste and texture if cooked right. We were at the restaurant Friday evening for dinner and had a problem that was never properly addressed. Our party of four shared two calamari appetizers and we all agreed that almost every piece was very chewy. What made it more aggravating is that my wife specifically asked our waiter before we ordered if it is usually tender, because we hate chewy calamari and he replied quite definitely that it is. When he eventually checked on us after serving the calamari, we told him quite clearly that they were chewy. We were the only party in the main dining room but he did not check on us in time to do anything about it because being quite hungry we ate them, but not with any enjoyment. I am upset because we were served improperly prepared food and also because he did not check on us in time to replace the problem dish with something else, but mostly because nobody from management ever came over to discuss the issue with us and do something to make it up to us. We don't know if he ever told anyone or kept it to himself, but either way, nobody came. Given that we paid over $200 for our meals (with tips), this is inexcusable. We were dining with another couple and did not want to make a fuss by asking for management to come over, but quite frankly the waiter should have made that happen without our asking. It was our first time visiting your restaurant but it is unlikely we will ever return. Those prices imply proper respect and we did not get it. One more thing. I don't ever remember ordering veal at a nice restaurant and not having it pounded thin. Yours were not, and while the Veal Francaise tasted good, it could have been much more tender had it been pounded. read more

Have spent thousands of dollars in this place. Have introduced this restaurant to friends and family. I'm stuck at home w Covid and sent my wife to pick up some of their food. Portions for take out are half the size. My wife asked for some olive oil with the bread they serve at the table and she was told by the owner - NO, that it's too expensive. Delicious little will decorated place hidden away with a weird parking lot. Calamari was good, but could've been crisper. Or was a few seconds away from being the right amount of crispy Pizza was great. Fresh and crispy out of the oven in a middle of no where spot. It's a10 inch pie though, so enough to share between two but you will still be hungry. I will definitely come back again to try the different pizzas. If you want a true Italian dining experience I strongly suggest this restaurant. Everything from the ambiance, service, and food is excellent. Their old school NY pizza pie is amazing. The pastas are particularly well prepared. And the portion size is fine. We ordered the asian salad along with some gnocchi Bolognese and gnocchi pesto creamy sauce. Plenty on the plate and it was good. The accommodations outside worked for our large group of 8 people. I would certainly go back again. The pizza here is fantastic - one of the greats in central nj! Amazing brick oven pies, and love their specials. Owners are lovely, and always greeting everyone with a smile. BYOB is the icing on the cake - as we always prefer to bring something from our collection, instead of over pay for mediocre food and a terrible wine list that you can find down the street at Vesuvios (yuck!) I am so glad we live near Albivi, they are a real neighborhood treasure. Our go-to is the penne vodka, I love that they put peas and pancetta into it, and they give you a good size serving. This is easily my favorite penne vodka. The gnocchi alla genovese is amazing too, as well as the rollatini and I just tried the spinach ravioli salvagi and that was great too. Surprisingly after a year we still haven't tried their pizza yet, but I hear such good things about it we will need to try that soon. But I'll always go back for the penne vodka. Their patio is also very cute and the restaurant itself is beautiful too. The staff has always been very friendly to us when we go for pickup. read more

We frequestly had eaten at Albivi's and find the backyard delightful. We last ate there last Monday and had a horrible experience. We ordered Ceasar salad which was very good. I ordered Chicken parmagian which came very overcooked and hard to cut, My fiancee ordered meatballs and spaghetti and she didn't like the taste of the meatballs. We asked the waiter to take our dishes away and bring us a pizza. The owner came out and gave us an argument that he uses only the best ingredients and told us to leave.
