You hear "mustard pie" and if you're like me you think, "WHAT?!" I'm telling you fam, go get one. We got one with garlic and sausage, and Mama Mia (or Papa Pia?) it was a home run. Service was fantastic - Haley did a great job. You dont need reservations but you may have to wait on a busy night.

The hype is real.. I won't sugar coat it. Papa's Tomato pie is one of the best pie's around. Trenton style is my favorite as I grew up in Ewing, NJ until I was 7 and my relatives still live in the Hamilton area. Papa's is located in a small strip mall on Robbinsville Allentown road just off of RT130. As you enter the restaurant you are brought back to the pizza spots of the past. Stained glass chandelier's adorn the ceiling over tables with checkerboard table cloths. Text on the header in the middle of the dining area reads "The oldest tomato pie restaurant in the United States." After my Dad, Son and I sat down our waitress came right over to take our drink order. After a quick look at the menu we ordered a large plain pie and a large 1/2 plain 1/2 mustard. My dad is a huge fan of mustard but wasn't sure how the pie would me. After a short wait out pie's arrived steaming at the table. The plain was crisp with 0 flop, had a fantastic sauce and the perfect amount of cheese. There isn't anything they could have done better. After inhaling two slices of plain it was on to a slice of the Mustard Pie. The mustard slice didn't look much different from the plain but you could see a little difference in the color of the sauce. As I took my first bite It reminded me of a eating a hamburger with ketchup and mustard. The mustard flavor was not overwhelming and I actually enjoyed it. All my dad could say is that its an "acquired tasted." If you like Trenton style Tomato Pie Papa's is one of the best. I only add restaurants to my top 5 pizza list now because they are so close. Papa's has made my top 5 along with Joey's in Hamilton. I drove about 40mins to try Papa's and I will be making the drive again.

Papa's Pizza rocks!! It's a great neighborhood spot with family vibes and a mix of booths and table seating. The thin crust is awesome, light, crisp at the edges, and sturdy without feeling heavy. The mustard pie stands out in a surprising way with its sharp, tangy depth that cuts through the tomato and cheese. We also ordered a cheese pizza that was well executed.

Another check on our pizza pilgrimage checklist and JUST AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED. Papa's is located at a small, quiet strip mall and we arrived on the day after July 4th at around 1PM. Even though there were a few parties inside already dining, there was plenty of space still. The restaurant was as old school as it gets - brown carpeting, tables with red vinyl coverings, ceiling lamps that look right out of the 1970s and nothing inside that screams modern. JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT. We were here for one thing and one thing only - THE TOMATO PIE! OK, we ordered a small house salad too, but we ordered the large 16" plain pie with absolutely no toppings. I wanted the pie as original as it gets and didn't want any toppings "polluting" the flavor of the pie. The pie came out piping hot. It was super thin and it might have been the crispiest pie I had everrrrrrr eaten in my life. The tomato flavor was all over the pie and the tanginess of the tomato was very evident with each crispy, crunchy bite. The first couple of slices had ZERO FLOP (as a certain pizza reviewer says), but as time passed, the slices began flopping a bit more. Nevertheless, I absolutely loved the pizza. For what it's worth, my wife thought it was just OK. Service throughout our meal was OK. It did seem like the waitresses were more friendly to other tables for some reason. Not sure why, but we didn't feel or get as much love as others. As of this writing, I hadn't been to Delucia's yet, but with no comparison and just reviewing Papa's by itself, it's a solid, solid, solid tomato pizza.

    - Thin, crispy pizza with tons of sauce. Good flavor, but a bit too crunchy. - Soft drinks aren't watered down but come full of ice and no free refills. - Toddler friendly with plenty of high chairs, booster seats, and take-out cups with lids.

One of the best pizza places in the area! Flavorful and just good tradition pizza tomato pie. Sauce was great. We got a large plain. We enjoy the bottom of the pizza a little well done for a good crisp. Would def order again.

The place looks, feels, smells 100 yrs old....and it's got charm. Pies are really good. I'd put it just below De Lorenzo's. We weren't brave enough to get the mustard pie rating: 8.4

4.5. Really good Pizzaria in the area! We tried the mustard pie and it was delicious! We ordered takeout and it was ready within 15 minutes. Service was quick and proactive.

As someone who's a history buff I jumped at the chance to mix two of my favorite things which is history and pizza since this is the oldest family run pizza place in America and the second oldest overall. But sadly I could only do takeout as I had somewhere else to be. I walked up to the takeout counter the clerk took my order and I waited 15mins outside on the porch. You can also call in the order ahead for pickup. The pizza itself was good it's just simple dough and tomato sauce but it was still good

8/23/25 - Pre-gaming took place at a restaurant called Papa's Tomato Pies in Robbinsville, NJ. They market the place as the oldest tomato pie restaurant in the country as it was opened in 1912. Just to remind you, a tomato pie is basically a pizza with cheese on the bottom and sauce on top. This pie is nothing short of amazing. It is in the conversation of the best pizza I have ever eaten. Ever. There's no bad things to report here so on to the good: The sauce is the best I ever tasted. Sorry Mom. It is the star of the show. The words "I want to bath in this sauce" may have come out of my mouth. The pies are what they refer to as thin crust. Those are not normally my favorite but the sauce and cheese are so savory, that they could put it on a cracker and I'd still order it. The crust is crunchy, chewy and baked to perfection. There's not even a hint of dryness. And surprisingly, for a thin pie, it is not limp at all. The cheese is 100% premium whole milk mozzarella. You will taste the difference. There was no wait time at all... we were seated immediately upon arrival. The staff is friendly, attentive and not overbearing. And after some of my recent restaurant visits that were subpar, this turned out to be exactly the pie I have been seeking. Perfection. Overall Rating: A+

Ask the Community - Papa's Tomato Pies

Do they sell slices or is it whole pies only?

    Whole pies

Do they take reservations for inside or for larger parties?

    Do they take credit card?

Yes they do in the dining room. I think it is cash for takeout but they do have an. ATM for takeout.

I really want to support Papa's during the pandemic... Does anyone know if they have expanded their delivery range to include Hamilton Square? In the past they have told me I live too far away (3 miles).

Yes, delivery range has been expanded

Rocco's closed down in Newtown, PA and their pork chop was the best...this pork chop was right up there with Rocco's. The mustard sauce, unique topping, was amazing. I am thinking about it today and my mouth is watering. My husband's veal was probably the best he has ever had. The most tender veal ever with a delicious marsala sauce. Then there were the pastas and seafood...all delicious. Oh and the calamari. It was all so darn good. Kyle was our server and he added to a perfect dining experience. He answered our questions, described the choices right on, made recommendations, he was friendly, had a wanting to please attitude and my 13 yr old granddaughter was crushing on him. (Haha). Wish all of our servers were that effecient and good. Gotta love a BYOB! The restaurant is modernly decorated and very comfortable. High energy kinda place. Noise level was high but all restaurants are loud these days and it really wasn't too bad. It was our first time at this restaurant and even though it is a bit far...we can't wait to go back. It is a pleasure to support a family run business. The owner came to our table and you could see her pride and we also felt our business was appreciated. I see why every table was full on a Sunday night. I just wish this place were in our neighborhood!! Love love love it!!!

We just quit going out for Italian other than for tomato pies, but now we've begun actively looking for a place to enjoy simple Italian food--outside of the ubiquitous tomato pies. Gennaro's was our first stop, with the menu definitely reading more New World Italian than Old World. We started with a couple of appetizers: The Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms in Scampi sauce and the Antipasto Salad. I'm not a fan of Antipasto salads (I've a three item max addition rule for salads and tomato pies), but my wife enjoyed it. It was your standard antipasto salad for the area--perhaps more generous with the meat and cheese than the last one we ordered up the street at Papa's. The stuffed mushrooms had a good flavor, and although the sauce didn't really hit me as Scampi (the garlic wasn't really there), it was still good on its own, and I'd order it again. My wife ordered the Pork Chop Giambotta, which she truly enjoyed. It was a thick, good sized pork chop covered with a sauce that included potatoes, sausage slices, and sautéed peppers. The menu said that the peppers were hot and sweet, but they were pretty much 99.9% hot peppers. If that's an issue for you, I'd make a point in mentioning it to your server first. My wife doesn't do spicy, but luckily I was there to find a home for the hot peppers, and she said she'd order it again if we returned. My Veal Saltimbocca, however, was a letdown. The veal was overcooked and had lost its tenderness, but most surprising to me was that it was very different from the standard version I've known for years. Had I read the description more carefully, I'd have caught the fact it was in a tomato demi-glace rather than the white wine and butter emulsion I know and love. Also, the ham that was used was not the thinly sliced prosciutto one normally sees, instead it was a thick slice of something that I can't honestly tell you was prosciutto or not. The use of spinach instead of a sage leaf wasn't a complete shock, as I've seen that before. Overcooked veal, the prosciutto mystery, and tradition straying aside, the flavor almost bordered on being alright, but it definitely wasn't what I'd hoped for when I placed the order. To add insult to injury, I asked for pasta as my side, and was given a couple choices--I chose the linguini and got served a dente-less spaghetti. When I asked the waiter (who was otherwise extremely conscientious and attentive) if they were out of linguini, I was told that there's really very little difference between the two, which so blew my mind that I just shrugged and ate. While we were there, we could see that there were many people who acted like regulars enjoying their meals, and many of them were also eating tomato pies, however, we're on the hunt for a place that's going to satisfy our need for an Italian place that provides beyond the pizza oven. I'm up in the air about a second shot--my wife was much happier than me with the location (which means we'll likely go), but I'll definitely ask our server more questions about what I'm ordering next time to avoid any surprises.

Although I stopped in for take out, they have a decent dining area between the tables inside and the outdoor patio area. I went with a standard cheese pizza and an order of garlic knots. The garlic knots (3.25/5) were a bit on the smaller side, but served in a nice portion size with a decent garlic kick to them. The large cheese pizza (3.5/5) was a small notch above the central New Jersey average, with the dough, sauce, & cheese coming together for a nice pizza experience, although I did have to sprinkle on some spices to add to the flavor profile a bit. Service (4/5) while picking up was friendly, although slightly slow at first since the guy at the counter was initially fixated on his phone for a bit. Overall, I'd rate Massimo's a 3.5/5 pizza experience, and don't mind rounding up since Yelp doesn't allow half stars and menu prices were fairly reasonable. While I'm not sure I'd choose Massimo's over other pizza competitors in the Robbinsville/Hamilton area, it's still a decent option should you find yourself looking for a more traditional round pizza experience.

We kept things simple by ordering a large plain cheese pizza and a chicken parmigiana sandwich. The pizza was slightly above average for a central NJ pizzeria, with decent sauce, cheese, and crust. It was a slightly thinner base and crust as compared to more doughy and thicker counterparts in the area. The chicken parm sandwich was similarly above average with decent ingredients.
