I am extremely particular about my hair and get it cut at least twice a month. I found Alchemy Salon a couple of years ago and have been going back every other week ever since. Patty is my hairdresser and she is BY FAR the best I've ever worked with. She is beyond observant, creative, positive, talkative, super friendly and treats you like her own family. Quick story: I was super hot one day coming into the salon. And I was sweating a little but didn't want to ask for a towel or anything. Patty noticed I was uncomfortable and without making a big deal or asking, she went over and turned on a fan to cool me off. She is such a great hairdresser and an even better person. As a fine, thin and flat haired girl, I am so glad I sat on Malanie's chair! I booked a haircut session with her and I truly did not know what I could do to shape up my hair. Malanie patiently took time to help me understand what cut would look good with my hair, also taking into account how I wear my hair AND what I liked/ disliked from my past history of haircuts. Guyssssss.. I have been through a journey with my hair. I can't even begin to describe the trauma I have had with paying hundreds of dollars at expensive salons, just to end up spending another hundred dollars in products to go over it with Sally Beauty or box dyes. I have always shared inspo photos and struggled with other stylists listening to my desires for keeping my length and giving me non-ashy blonde tones. I always ended up with short hair and/or exactly what I didn't want. I've never found anyone who listened enough to what I envisioned for my hair. I let my hair grow out for the last two years and have been so nervous to try again. I found Patricia and Alchemy Salon on IG/Google and the reviews were great. Not going to lie, I was nervous since I didn't see a lot of her work on her page but I just had a good feeling and decided to give it a go. Full transparency, I almost cancelled multiple times leading up to my appointment. Lol the trauma was real. From the minute I walk in, Vina was sooooo sweet and welcoming. Offered me beverages multiple times (they had mimosas!) and always made sure I was comfortable. Patti talked me through all my fears, my hairs' history and eased my anxiety pretty quickly. I fought myself to trust the process and the whole way she was always checking on me. She gave me exactly what I wanted and Vina finished my hair off with the most amazing styling/waves. In the end.. it all paid off! I am beyond thrilled with my hair, the service and with the entire experience. I'm definitely a lifelong customer. I'm so happy I didn't give up on my hair journey. I loved coming here! Such a welcoming vibe. I was attended by the lovely and attentive Vina! I went in for a haircut and loved every minute of it, so much so I ended up falling asleep TWICE during the appointment - once while getting my hair washed (which felt so heavenly) and the other while getting my haircut. After recently moving to Houston I decided it was time to get over my hesitation and book a curly cut. I booked with Bex & all I can say is THANK YOU BEX! It's been awhile since I did any type of color. Blaine freshened my hair with a cut and added some color!! I am in LOVE with it!! The salon is located in the East End and is adorably cute and fun. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. Music is popping and everyone is in such a good mood. Blaine is the best!!! It wasn't awkward and we pretty much talked the whole time. This is the first time I've ever gotten a professional hair cut (I was a Supercuts kid and adult). The woman I had, who I can't remember the name of, was so sweet and gentle with me when I didn't have the right verbiage for what she was asking of me. It was fantastic. I don't think I've ever had someone wash my hair so well. The vibes and music were off the charts and my hairstylist respected that I'm a more quiet client. I have been looking forward to getting balayage highlights again after letting them grow out because my hairdresser quit working to have children years ago. This morning I was Jackie's first appointment, and I was so excited based on previous reviews! Alchemy has a cool urban vibe with parking. The AC was not working (a bit of a problem once it got past noon and 90+ degrees out), but something that couldn't be helped. I do not care for the teasing technique because it made an absolute mess of my hair! It took 2 people to comb through all the tangles while rinsing. Also the highlights are way too blond and not the caramel that I asked for and showed pix of. Jackie said I could come back to get them more to what I wanted. The prices are NOT AT ALL clear until it is time to check out. What I thought was going to be $170 service turned out to be $270 plus a tip!!! Jin nailed it! My haircut appointment was at 11:15am, and I told Jin I had two Christmas parties this evening, the first one starting at 6:30pm. He styled my hair 7 hours in advance and set me up so that, while getting ready, a few strokes of my wide comb would give me exactly what I asked for: face framing loose waves. PERF. Extremely sad to write this review honestly but here we are. Photos labeled I returned to alchemy salon not once. But twice. Both with similar expectations. The first time I went my hair was done by Jacky the salon owner herself. I asked for a nice rich orange based copper... which I didn't exactly get . The ends were a dead dusty color. And it was pretty lack luster, even though the bayalage was perfectly Executed. Today I returned to take my copper hair that I did myself. To a nice pink color. ( I will not be naming the stylist ) We spent 2 hours gently lifting my hair in baby lights to a level 6 which was still pretty warm. After proceeding to put a pink on my hair. My hair turned dark and I mean DARK brown. Then with much scrubbing a "copper" color was applied to my hair. All the while I'm being told it looks perfect and no worries. I asked multiple times if any red was being used in the copper and she reassured me there was 0 red. After we washed my hair out. My hair was now 3 shades darker than what I went in with. And honestly looked of inky box dye which even Jacky (and the hairstylist at hand ) agreed with. I was told " we don't like your hair and neither do you, we're sorry that this happened" my hairstylist proceeds to tell me how horrible she feels about this and I told her I know she didn't intentionally ruin my hair but at this point I'm wordless and at the verge of tears. I now have slightly damaged hair ( as to be expected ) but for absolutely no reason as my hair is 10X darker than what it was. I was then told that I would be discounted and could return for her to try to fix her mistake for a THIRD time. Since the correction didn't go right either. Mind you trying to keep my hair integrity intact. I then proceeded to explain how I didn't feel it was fair of me to be charged since I probably wouldn't be returning again. At this point. I've tried and I can't seem to get what I want at this salon. Jacky then started to explain to her artist in front of me how the shop would compensate her since she put so much time into my hair, as if to guilt trip me (But yet I'm sitting here with ruined hair) The stylist and I both sad and unhappy with how the day went I go to leave. Minutes later I receive a text from Jacky saying how I am not welcome back to the salon. I'm ASSUMING it's because I didn't end up giving them money?? So, I leave with the ruined hair. Which Will take me time, money, patience, to get back to what I HAD not even what I went in there wanting. But I'm supposed to still pay for a service that was never Executed or fixed. I left with unstyled untrimmed hair, I didn't get anything extra or ask for anything extra. Other than the color I never received. The first AND second color. That just does not seem right to me what so ever. I was literally in tears in this salon. And had even planned on reaching out to the artist privately because of how bad it ended up when neither one of us expected it. But following the text message I received. The first time I came to see him was for a haircut and he really brought my hair back to life after so much prior damage my hair had went through from constant coloring. It's hard to put into words how happy I am with my hair. It hadn't been done professionally in over 4 years and had 2 years worth of box dye damage. They were open and honest with me from the start and didn't hide the fact that I probably wouldn't end up with what I wanted due to the fact that I had box dyed my hair. They use quality products and your hair health is their top priority. I cannot express how grateful I am to the whole staff. From the moment you walk in you can feel the positive environment and atmosphere.
