I am extremely angry with ALCO's person who managed their calls (Jason?). My fridge stopped working on July 2, and we called them because they provided services before. As directed, we left a message, but they did not call back before the July 4th holiday, so we called on July 5th, and they said the earliest they could come was a week after. We subsequently called them several times but could not get anyone. Now nearly 10 days have passed since the fridge broke down; we called again to ask what time they were coming, and finally someone answered the phone, asked the fridge model, then told us they no longer work on this model. I told the guy we didn't have to wait 10 days to be told they no longer do the work, and Jason said it was our fault because we hadn't given them the model number. I said if they ever returned our calls, they would probably have found out. In addition, is it their responsibility to ensure what the customer has before they had even promised to send out a technician? read more

The drain pump on my washer stopped working, I put a call in to Alco and after sending washer info, part was ordered and appointment set for service. Ray was very knowledgeable, replaced pump, made sure it was working well, cleaned up after himself as well! Great service! read more

Lid switch on the washing machine broke. Alco came recommended by another resident of my condo building. Called and left a voicemail (they answer the phone from 9-12). For a call back the next day as promised. Appt set for the next week (they had earlier ones, I set one that was convenient for us). John ran a bit late but called us and let us know. When he arrived, he had the part we needed and did a speedy and clean job. He respected our home. He was incredibly knowledgeable about our Whirlpool Thin Twin Stackable. He was kind. I called and left repeated messages for repair on my washing machine--very likely an easy fuse replacement, as it was a similar problem that Alco repaired on my partner's identical machine. None of my calls were returned, even after speaking directly to John on his cell and he directed me to leave a message on the business phone. My partner said the woman who answers the main phone didn't instill confidence in her reliability, even after scheduling an appointment (which John kept). I HATE leaving a bad review, but they have a serious problem with their answering and scheduling system. read more

I had a problem with my washing machine. I tried to replace it with a stacked washer/dryer unit of the same size. It did not fit because my closet configuration is for side venting. Machines today back vent. I would have had to go with a much smaller unit if I had stuck with the replacement option. Thankfully, I turned to ALCO Appliance for repair. I could not be more pleased. In particular, I recommend John, the tech who repaired my machine. He is knowledgeable, patient, thorough, and friendly. Repair of my 30-year old Whirlpool electric stove was scheduled within a few days of my call, repairman showed up on time and quickly installed the new part that was needed. And the price was right! Minimum labor charge + low cost for the baking element (Whirlpool quoted a price of $121, Alco charged only $34 for the part). In addition, when I called after the repair was completed and I noticed the stove was no longer flush with my countertop, the repairman showed up again the next day on time to push the stove back against the wall. I can't believe I have had a bad experience with ALCO for the first time, given their fantastic reputation. At the recommendation of many of my neighbors, I engaged John to come out and look at my ventless dryer, which he had repaired many years ago, and about the vent we also had. We wanted advice about whether we should get another ventless dryer or a vented one. John told us that If we decided to go with the ventless, he said he could recommend a Whirlpool model and and that he would send me the model number and specific info when he returned to the office. This was December 5, and I paid him $75 for the visit. But I never heard from him again. I have called ALCO multiple times and emailed them and have received no response over a month later. I'm very upset and would hesitate to use ALCO again. read more

I called Alco for the third time in 15 years recently. Again they exceeded my expectations. I was sure I had to replace my old refrigerator but felt guilty about not having a technician at least take a look at it. Replacing a $30 part fixed it. That plus a nominal service fee brought everything to a little over $100 and it was good as new. They explained what was wrong in detail, showing me measurements from a meter. I had experienced some other quirkiness in its operation and they explained why it was doing that and how to make it stop. Not only was it fixed but I learned so much about my refrigerator! Alco is so good at repairs I don't think of them for appliance sales -- it seems a lower-key part of their operation, but I would contact them if I needed a new appliance. read more

Alco provides services in DC, Prince Georges and Montgomery Counties, and I can't tell you how glad I was to find them. Consumer Checkbook gives 'em rave reviews, my neighbor Dave also says yeah, and now I just love 'em too. They showed up when they said they would, quickly and efficiently fixed my washing machine, and charged me a reasonable amount. After many calls and voicemails, we finally got an appointment set. On the day of the appointment, we called to find out our "two hour window," for when the technician would arrive. The nice operator said from 3-5 this afternoon. Well as you might be able to guess from the number of stars given, the tech was a no-show! So we won't recommend Alco at all. read more

I called Alco, providing them with our refrigerator brand and model number, our address, and a description of the problem. They scheduled a service call 10 days out, saying that was the earliest they could come. The day of the appointment, they canceled, stating that they don't service our refrigerator brand or our area. John, and now with his partner Jason, continue to be amazingly wonderful. Alco loves appliances; he even has an appliance museum. When my 1979 Whirlpool dishwasher finally stopped running, I asked him to recommend a new model to sell me. No way, for one third the price of a new model [whose computer would likely break], John replaced the motor from his private stock. Follow the instructions on Alco's website; he's always phoned when he's going to be late. Alco are the most honest and reliable and can do maintenance folk I have ever encountered. read more

Our washer stopped operating on Sunday, I called Alco on Monday, and they were able to come on Wednesday. Their practice is to call on the morning of the planned visit to provide a 2-hour arrival window. (No waiting for hours on the day of a service call.) and Jason arrived just before that window, masked and gloved. We maintained the social distancing protocol, and he quickly found and fixed the problem. In addition, he advised me on other maintenance important to keep the washer in good shape. We had major wiring damage by mice - luckily, Alco was able to come in and fix everything for $132 ($60 for labor and $65 for the service call). The service man had to remove the door, and do some major wiring work. He was timely, clean, efficient, and quick. I will definitely recommend them and call them for any work on my appliances. read more

Nobody Better. Recently we had a refrigerator door that just wouldn't shut without an extra shove. For a week after John fixed it we would walk past and open it for no reason just for the satisfaction of seeing it shut on it's own. We've used them for 30+ years especially during our Property Management years. If they can fix it you bet they will. It helps if you give them the make and model # first so they can put parts needed on the truck when possible, but don't be surprised if it's a 2 part visit. read more

I have used them in 2007 and again just today. Back in 2007, Alco was fantastic. The repair person they sent out was there to fix my washer and my dishwasher. They were quick and after they "stopped the clock", they even took time to explain an array of other things relating to my appliances. All in all, I was really pleased with their service and their price. Today, they came out to fix the same washer. They gave me a two hour window, and they arrived as expected. They fixed the issue and cleaned up within 15 minutes. However when the service person wrote up my bill, he tried charging me for triple the labor time plus the call charge (their website clearly states that they bill in 15 min increments). I protested, and the repair person decreased it down to twice the labor time, which I was okay with. I mean yes, I was "overcharged", but the total charge was still very reasonable, and he did complete the work very quickly. So 4 stars based on my two experiences with them, but that's just an average of my first 5 star experience and my 3 star experience today. read more

Don't risk it. Call someone else. I had an appointment, confirmed again that morning. They just didn't show up. Waste of a day off, waiting for a repair person. Service can't get much more inferior than that. (just to clarify, it wasn't that they got there late, arrived outside of the two hour window, or called to let me know that something came up. No show, I called outside of the two hour window to make sure someone was still coming, was assured the person must just be running behind Called again later in the day, was told I would be called back with an estimated time of arrival. What a shake down this company is. Came out to my house and discovered they could not help me and sent me a bill. Called to dispute this after their told me that there would be no charge. Sure enough sent me a bill and when I refused to be part of their scheme, sent me to collection agency. Do not use this company; John is an angry guy that is difficult to work with. read more

Fantastic customer service. When can you say that about anyone these days? They have an easy to understand website. My inquiry calls were promptly returned; an appointment was easy to schedule. Alco called day of service to give me my service window and the technician - Sherwin - arrived in said window. He was knowledgeable and communicative; the service was performed with my permission when I was not at home and he went over everything on the phone with me when he was done. For reasons having nothing to do with Alco's services, I needed to be back in contact with Sherwin and the lead technician, John, the following day. Both took the time to answer/return my calls and were incessantly patient and helpful. Prices for a service call are entirely competitive / reasonable. I would use them again in a minute and wholeheartedly recommend their services. read more

The best service anyone could ask for. Jason showed up at the beginning of the window that we asked for, which was a small window. He was super professional and had the best customer service. He literally had our oven fixed in a matter of minutes! We were quoted $115 dollars by other companies just to come out and look at the oven; Alco only charged $85 dollars for the entire fix ($65 visit fee + $20 labor). My dishwasher was pulled out after a flood to repair water damage in the kitchen it was not replaced correctly and was not working water or power incorrectly reconnected. Called Alco based on yelp reviews and thought the issue was fixed but a week later water seemed to not be flowing to the dishwasher again. Today they sent a new tech who checked it out, confirmed that all was well with the dishwasher and also help me reset my oven unit without cost. Loving the customer service and will gladly recommend Alco and use them in the future. read more

The Alco employee who answers the phones the next day day had an attitude when we called to find out what happened. I'm willing to pay a premium for reliability. I was quite impressed with the service. John arrived within the appropriate time window. (He also called a few minutes before arrival, which was nice.) He was friendly and professional and did a great job repairing my KitchenAid dishwasher for what I thought was a reasonable price (especially given charges I've had in the past from other repair companies). Great service at a great price. I called because our dishwasher had stopped working. Alco's service person called me as he left his prior job to ask if it was still a good time to come by (very courteous of him!). He quickly discovered our dishwasher's problem and had the correct part to fix it. The morning our clothes washer also quit working so I asked if he could look at it too. Similarly he quickly discovered the problem and had the correct part to fix it.
