Great place to shop for your typical daily groceries! Milk, egg, bread priced below any other food marts around. Highly recommended!

I Was excited about the opening of ALDI in Sterling. Think essentials. There is a little bit here and a little bit there. Aldi has many items that bear its name. I have gotten a lot of their condiments. Still have not gotten around to trying their mayonnaise. I am definitely a main brand person. The meat selection is minimal, but what they have are very reasonable. Think chicken and hamburger .Milk and other dairy products are much less. The 1/2 and 1/2 matches COSTCO prices. I like the accessibility of the parking lot. Its much easier to navigate then the grocery store in Countryside. You will not find grocery carts rolling around. To get a shopping cart, you need to insert a quarter. You will get your quarter back once you return it.. I use ALDI to purchase the basics. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I'd recommend a quick spin around the store to check it out. I originally was going to rate them as a "4". Taking into consideration the fact that ALDI'S are as advertised. They do not advertise mega selections, but do promise great prices. FYI ALDI is I Europe, and yes our neighbors across the pond "rent" their shopping carts as well. Whoops I forgot to mention that ALDI does not accept checks or credit cards.They do take cash, debit and ebt. read more

I'm a fan of Aldi on the whole but I'm not in love with this particular location if only because the physical design of the store is smaller than the Chantilly one but this location has a wider array of products (in contrast, the chantilly location has more physical space but not as diverse of a product range). This location always seems busy though and the staff is friendly enough. The customers at this location are quiet with one another but still very polite and not as pushy and I appreciate this about this location. read more

Prices are really great. We have purchased many of their store brand items and not been dissapointed in any of them. Remember to bring your own bags (or else you will be scrambling for an empty box in the store or just have to purchase their bags.) We have had good luck with their fresh fruit and vegetables remaining fresh for the duration in our household. A couple of the things that take some getting used to...it's cash only or bank debit card. NO CREDIT CARDS. For many that's a negative and I know we always have to make sure we have cash on hand before we go which is a bit of a pain. Another thing we have noticed is that their special deals of the week tend to sell out early and often times the ad shows items that are never at your Aldi store. We have gone to the store at least 4 times and lost out on items that simply weren't there :( The final thing to be aware of is that a lot of the time you will purchase items and the next week or 2 later they won't be in the store and who knows if you will ever see them again or not. This has happened to us with Clancy's chicago style popcorn, fit and active chocolate rice cakes, various pasta sauces, refrigerated pretzel dough, cheese slices, shelled sunflower seeds, frozen juice concentrate, ice cream and more. They were all items that we purchased and liked and made it onto the next shopping list for Aldi and yet they were no where to be found inside the store on our next trip or even the one after that. It's very dissappointing to find a product you like and want to purchase and then it's not there any more. We are fans of Aldi, but also know that it won't be a one stop place for us. We basically keep a list of items to shop for at Aldi and hit the store about twice a month and if they don't have it, then we go to another store. Huge plus for how quick the cashiers scan and check you out...and Aldi packaging makes it easy (they put the bar codes on multiple sides of packages and make it extra large so the scanner can easily catch it.) Even with just 1 line open, you will be amazed at how quickly you get checked out. read more

Having lived in Germany for 11 years, I was so excited when I heard that one would be opening across the street. Also knowing their reputation for having a commitment to organic, natural and "green" products, I was even more excited. For over a year now I have been shopping at my local ALDI, always hoping to see the commitment that was promised. The selection of Organic meat, chicken, fruits and vegetables leaves a lot to be desired, just a few miles is a Walmart, Safeway and Wegmans with the selection of Organic and non GMO products I would expect from ALDI. I am hoping that with that in mind they will step up their selection at this location. read more

Usually I shop at Lidl. However, I learned that Aldi has a few items that I can't get at Aldi, so I do spot shopping there. Usually I go to the one in Ashburn and have always have a great experience. This time I went to the one in Sterling since I was in the area. I really hate how Aldi has a basket at the end of belts that the cashier just tosses your purchases into. This time a lady in front of me only had two containers of strawberries. So as she was gathering them up to leave I went ahead and put my bag in the cart so the cashier could easily put my items in the bag instead of tossing them in the cart. Well, this cashier was very sensitive and didn't like that I put my bag in her cart. She didn't like that I was being proactive and got huffy with me telling me not to put my bag in the cart as the other customer was getting her stuff out of the top area of the cart. The cashier started defending the other customer, but the customer even said, "There's not problem. Not a big deal." But the cashier thought it was a big deal, so she stopped checking me out. She just there glaring at me and being sassy. A long line of customers started to form and she didn't say anything to them....even thought it was her petty, stubborn, controlling behavior that caused her to stop doing her job. So, I told the people in the line that they may want to go to another cashier since she wasn't waiting on me. She got defensive because I spoke to her customers (But there were like 5 customers waiting) and told them I could stay. And, then I said are you going to continue checking me out? And she said no. So I asked her to call her manager. She said she did. So, then I told the other customers they may want to go to another cashier because we are not waiting for a manager. When the manager came, we told him what happened. I started recording this interaction since I didn't want to get blamed for something I didn't do...you never know these days what people say...the cashier could've said I said something I didn't...So best to record. She and the manager didn't like that I was recording, but the manager basically had the cashier continue doing her job and check me out. And, I left. Seriously, the cashier was petty and snobby. I'm never going to back to this store. I don't need the hassle. read more

I spent three weeks in Sterling, Va. for training. I was excited to learn that Aldi was in the area. I love Aldi!!! The store was clean and the staff was friendly. The Meat is awesome and reasonably priced. Eggs, Milk, Bread I found to be cheaper than in the area. You need a quarter to borrow a shopping cart or else be prepared to carry your items. read more

This place sucks. The prices suck, Walmart matches or beats pretty much all their prices. They move their stuff every week, so even if you did have an item that you saved a nickel on, by the time you find it, it's 2045 and we're traveling in flying cars. B/c you know, we have to move the store around every day, every week, b/c we're so much better than you. The workers- who are making how much $ above minimum wage- are so focused on treating you like a piece of crap and moving you through the store so they can get to their next person in line so they can, in turn, treat that person like crap, so they can continue to be as unhelpful as possible to the next person in line, until people are smart enough to go to Walmart to purchase their products. Walmart might pay their employees $4 an hour but you'll get treated a lot better there than you will at Aldi. On top of that, when you're done shopping, the carts will eat your quarter b/c the store tries to be cutting edge, high tech, but can't hire decent folks or good technology so carts don't steal my wifey's quarters when she's done shopping. I'd rather go next door and get food poisoning from Chipotle than shop here! Booooooooooooooooo! read more

I love Aldi but this location is the worst. Long lines at checkout. I have seen up to two pallet forks that are parked so that you can't go thru the aisle with your cart. Shelves are empty in inventory. The cashiers rush to scan every thing and throw everything into the carts. Just yesterday the girl with her new blond hair threw everything in to the cart. When she was finished asked me to give her a cart. When i did she slammed it to her side making a lot of noise because it was not lined next to her. It's not my job to give them carts while they sit on their ass waiting to immediately scan the next customer and to throw everything into the carts. I think they get a performance bonus for scanning speeds which they deny. When I got home some of the plum tomatoes were damaged and the brioche bread was all smashed. What a shame. I started to go to the one in Fair lakes which is run more smoothly without empty shelves, with graceful employees and a pleasant shopping experience. Corporate needs immediate attention to this location! read more

Aldi is a great place to buy dairy, packaged goods and some meats as well and get high quality goods for very low prices. It's a different way to shop but you will cut your grocery bills in half and get excellent quality. It's a smaller store and the products always change so it works better as somewhere that you make dinners based on what they have in stock rather than go in with a specific list. Part of what makes them so cheap is not having a huge staff- a cart return requiring a quarter deposit so people always return their cart, bagging your own groceries etc. you save money by doing things yourself. Aldi's weakness is their produce section, so I go to a nearby Asian grocery store that has a huge selection for great prices, but Aldi has great quality packaged foods, dairy, and meat and between the 2 stores, I spend 1/2-1/3 on groceries as what I used to at a regular grocery store. read more

Today I went to ALDI for the first time and wondered why I didn't discover it earlier (Oh how I would have saved on household stuff and groceries) . My son jokes that I can't go 5 minutes without praising my favorite store, Aldi. Like many people, my first visit was confusing. I was annoyed that I needed a quarter for a cart and bags of my own to shop. I swore I would never go back. Thank God I did! I thought it over and went back, prepared this time. Did all of my grocery shopping and went to the front. When she told me my bill was a third of what I usually pay for weekly groceries I said to myself, "I can do this!" I have since purchased my reusable bags, (no more plastic bag clutter at home!) and come with the idea that," If Aldi doesn't carry it I don't need it." This philosophy has made me a happier person, and I can afford to pay for my daughter's college. I swear it has made the difference between keeping her there and telling her she needs to do community college. When I do need something Aldi doesn't carry, and that happens only occasionally, I go to Giant or some other grocery to get it. Their shelves seem so decadent! Do we really "need" 6 different brands of ketchup, America? Don't get me started on cereals! Aldi I hope you grow and teach our country how to live better! This place is amazing. It has some very good food items for Christmas . If you are going to a party or office party or just having one or if you wish to give a sweet food item as a gift , oh man this is the place to shop . The prices are great from chocolates to cookies even the infamous Stolen bread. I have been so happy since this store opened . The closest one to me was Chantilly . And I could not get there ever cause of the distance, The employees here are as fabulous as the food choices they sell and there prices. And don't worry about the quarter w/the cart. Once you see your savings you will be happy to notice that on top of that you get your quarter back. They also have great choices of cheeses for the Christmas and New Year party platters. read more

Good selection, good prices but very poor customer service. The owners are so cheap that they have only 3 people running the whole store. With only one or two overworked cashiers, lines are long and there is no one available to answer a question and employee turnover is very high. With such a great location, this store could be a jewel if the owners would wake up and realize that the customer services is the key to assure customer loyalty and increase sales.They could become a major player and complete with Trader Joe and the new Harris Teeter if management put more emphasis on customer satisfaction instead of running a barebones operation. read more

Beware the weights! There are no scales, anywhere. Last grocery shopping trip, I picked up a package of fresh meat off the refrigerated shelf in the back of the store, plus the one next to it. After checking the marbling, color, freshness date and such, I noticed the two roasts felt like they weighed about the same -- the one piece was marked twice the price of the other. When I took them to the manager on duty, I gave him the meat with the labels upside down and asked him if the meats felt like they weighed about the same? Without asking if I was expecting a particular response...he judged them and replied yes. I asked him to turn them over and look at the price tag. If he was as shocked as me, he kept his cool....was very nice about it, and took the meat away. Between that, how fast the fresh fruits go bad when you get them home, and the fact that it seems Aldi would rather its employees crush boxes and have you pay for a reusable bag or paper bags, I'm not super high on this Aldi. My family does like the taste of the store brand(?) chips and cereals, the milk, Almond milk, and gluten free products -- all of which are at great prices. I shop Aldi for some things, not all. Still go in a small "circuit" to get best deals and quality groceries -- Aldi is only a small percentage of our grocery, behind Giant, and Food Lion. The Safeway in between is the only store that gets less of our business than the Aldi. Safeway is great, and most expensive for what we buy regularly. read more
