We never noticed, towards the back of the market is a huge Butcher Case filled with an impressive assortment of meats and poultry. Next to the Butcher Case is a "Take-Out" counter. There is a list for Burrito, Tacos and drinks. The burritos are absolutely huge...I mean literally HUGE. . . we can easily make two meals out of one burrito. Plus, they are so inexpensive...they are under twelve dollars! The most surprising aspect is the "more exotic types"of burritos they offer - Buche and Lengua! The prices are a little high but it's well worth it to support our local farmers. The fruits and veggies are always nice and fresh. There aren't nearly as many vendors on Wednesdays but if you are just going for fruits and vegetables you won't be disappointed. Angel Farms is my favorite vendor but I do like them all. Atkins nursery from Fallbrook comes down and they always have local avocados.

But, netting out at almost $800/night increases expectations and so it probably deserves more like 3 or 3-1/2 stars. It was a 3 bedroom home and was ok -- nothing fancy or high-end. So maybe the cost was based on the size? Importantly, what we really believed we were paying extra for that would have been worth the money was the "farm stay" aspect. It may have been a house on a farm property, but it was not a "farm stay experience." The only thing that came close were the animals, but their enclosures were small, cramped, on the side of the road (which was steep and hard to walk on), and the animals did not look healthy or well taken care of. The alpaca's fur was matted up and many of the chickens had bald spots on their backs, potentially due to overcrowding, rooster overbreeding, or aggressively going after each other in such a small space for so many hens (and hopefully not from parasites). It was a side show vs. a real farm experience. Back to the house, another attraction in the listing was the hot tub -- but it had a really horrible smell. The towels we used to dry off with kept the smell too. We used it on the first day, but not afterward. It's a shame. If the hot tub issue were fixed, the property is nice enough, but I do believe it is mis-marketed. It'd probably be very appealing for a bigger group who is visiting the Temecula wine country scene, but who doesn't want to be in the middle of the fray and, instead, wants a quieter location that feels off the beaten path. It should not be marketed as a "farm stay." And the poor animals should definitely go, especially as they feel like such an after thought on the property anyhow.

I initially thought all the shops here were recently build to look like the old west, but in reading about the history on its website, learned that this area has been in existence since 1867. According to the website, it has been the heart of Temecula since then. Originally built by German immigrant, Louis Wolf, it was used as a trading post next to Temecula Creek. After his death in 1905, area was purchased by Arizona cattle baron, Walter Vail, who turned it into a cattle ranch. In 1964, it was sold to developers who turned it into a master-planned community. The area remained vacant for several decades until it was restored fully in 2007. This place now houses several unique shops and eateries, and is also used for events and Farmers Market. This is actually a plaza within a bigger plaza, which has more commercial retailers like Kohl's, Walmart, Marshalls, and several others. Kind of an odd mix, but glad the city decided to keep a portion of its history alive.
