The sandwich and the salad were fine and evoked nostalgia but weren't too exciting. It feels like a hometown restaurant and you can tell it's a neighborhood favorite. I have been going to Aldo's for decades. The pizza hasn't changed at all. There original thin crust is the only one that I go with and is the best. For this reason, I am bias & Aldo's holds a special spot in my list of favorite pizza joints. We always get the Star of India (onions, green bell peppers, black olives, pickled jalapenos). The pizza crust had a light crisp & they didn't skimp on the toppings. Casual restaurant and the service was good this past visit. Only put 2 slices of pastrami on it is a good start. Then make sure you put on way too much mayo and mustard. Next, add one thin, tasteless piece of cheese. Then over-bake all that together so the lettuce gets totally nasty and slimy. Ensure that the bread is as hard as a crouton. I base every pizza I have ever had on Aldo's pizza. If you truly want to have an amazing pizza experience. Aldo's is where you should go. I live about 3000 miles away currently. Not sure why so many Indian people hype this place up. People in my family have been going here since the 1990's (even before I was born), so perhaps that's why they like it so much? I got to eat here multiple times as a child, and as I grew up. When I was a child, it obviously tasted better to me because my taste buds had not fully developed yet. As I grew older, I began to understand Aldo's a lot better. It is one of those run-down looking, friendly neighbourhood pizza places so it makes sense why it would be so popular. It is located in a tiny strip right off the street and has a very bland, inconspicuous outside atmosphere. Once you get inside, it looks more like a pizza place that has several arcade games, which is ultimately a classic! The pizza however, is not as good as people make it out to be. It isn't something to rave about, nor is it terrible. It is just one of those average pizza places you would go to if there was nothing else open, you didn't want to drive far, and you wanted something to hit the spot. I have tried several of their pizzas and they were all okay. Their crust is something people also rave on about, and the fact that it is thin is not bad, but again it is nothing special. For what it's worth, I would say that you can spend your money elsewhere and get more for what you paid for. read more

The family has been going here for a long time. Many people flock to this place for the pizza famously named "Star of India". While it tastes delish, it's not the absolute greatest in the world. That particular pizza is good if you like spicy and garlicky pizza. This is a good place to go and grab some good old fashion 'zza but I am sure you can find great pizza in other parts of the peninsula. My only two complaints are: the customer service is really bad. They are not about being nice or making you a happy customer, they are simply their to take your order and serve your food. The other issue is the bathroom. I am quite pleased that it hasn't changed and that thin crust is still SO delicious! I've yet to discover another pizza like Aldo's. Service was fantastic as we were constantly being checked on. Our group was made up of exhausted exchange students from 5 countries coming out of the mountains from a failed and wet camping trip. Staff was extremely patient and caring, even though we did not make mention of what we were going through. This great service was on top of a very good pizza that hit the spot with everyone as there were no leftovers. I've been coming here for years and I'm so disappointed that I will not be returning. This place has always been a go to until now. I've noticed a steady decrease in quality and items missing. I ordered a giant and wings along with sides of ranch which I paid for. Delivery took 1.5 hours and was so disappointing. I asked for the receipt which the driver was trying to keep. Once I looked at it noticed I was charged $13.50 for 3 sides of ranch and the pizza that was supposed to be a giant was nowhere close to filling the box. Like I said I've been coming here for years and know the size of a giant and this was not. I call and am going back and forth about the ranch and they say they will credit $9. I tell them this is not a giant and that's what I paid for. This may sound minuscule but I work hard for my money and was feeding 4 teenage boys and 2 young kids so when the right size doesn't come it's hard to feed them all. Anyway, the girl who answered is covering the phone talking to whoever (I think the rude owner) and she keeps covering the phone. I can hear the laughing and back and forth. I don't think it's funny at all to take advantage of loyal customers. If I hadn't taken the receipt I wouldn't have noticed the overcharge and they would have gotten over and who knows how many times they have since they always try to keep the receipt and I don't always force the issue to take it. I order usually once a month and spend $70-100 every time You lost a loyal customer over shady practices. read more

i drive by this place every day on my way home from work, and i've been intrigued by the sign that i see in their window that reads "there's a big difference between the chains and the independent pizzerias. come in and we'll prove it to you." so tonight when the consensus was pizza, we opted to support our local spot, aldo's. i am so bummed, sorely disappointed--and frankly insulted--by the food we received. this was without a doubt the worst pizza i've ever had in my life--and i've had pizza in scotland, which is not a place known for their foodways. i honestly feel swindled out of a hard-earned $65.00, which would have been much better spent supporting a small, local business who can actually be bothered to have some pride in their food. we got the classic combo with the original thin crust, which was supposed to be "crispy" and "flaky". burnt while also somehow soggy was more like it. i have no idea how a pizza with five different types of meat, three cheeses and four veggies could be so flavorless. do they even use sauce? i didn't see or taste any. and cheese? so little it was laughable. even jalapenos, freshly grated parmesan, red pepper flakes, mozzarella, cilantro and eventually salt from my own kitchen couldn't help it. it was so bland. and so soggy. and so burnt. and so bad. so, so bad. and then the wings. oh my god. straight up something pre-breaded, out of a wet plastic bag that were then put in a microwave for 3 minutes then shoved in a styrofoam box. the antithesis of crispy, and also with no sauce. seriously--buffalo sauce is simply butter and red hot. it takes less than a minute to make. wtf? this can't possibly be what they're going for? can it? to think that i thought it was charming that i had to call to place an order, that they made me print off a "free delivery" coupon from their website (but was still charged for delivery, fyi), and that i had to ask "so how do i pay you?" on the phone so so that they would take my debit card info down. "they're so old school, it's got to be good!" i thought. nope. uh-uh. no way. don't do it to yourself. there's plenty of other independent places to support. the only thing i don't regret is the tip to the super friendly lady delivery driver. she was the only positive in this sorry-excuse-for-pizza experience. read more

This place has garbage service and workers that do not care about their customers. We order burgers, garlic and a pizza. Worst experience I have ever had. We receive sandwich subs with burger meat cut up thrown in a brown bag. Pickles just falling out of paper. I call and the guy on the phone proceeds to tell me he has been in the business for 17 years and he knows what a burger is. Ignores all my concerns. I guess he forgot we are not in a broke city where I will beg for a refund. I can order food somewhere else. I'm going to have to respectfully, yet vehemently, disagree with Laura on the cheese. I found the three cheese blend (mozzarella, provolone, cheddar) to be delicious. The sauce was also delicious and the crust was thin and crispy as promised. Overall, I thought it was a very, very good thin crust pizza. Not very filling, though, because it's so thin. So order a bigger size than you might elsewhere. Beer... not much of interest on tap but an adequate selection in bottles. We ate in, and the dining room was pretty standard. The staff and owner were nice, though the owner did go on a loud little rant to his employees about something (about a customer who canceled their order belatedly, it sounded like). They have a mini game room with the three requisite video games... a martial arts fighting game, a racing game, and a rifle shooting game. I am waffling between 4 and 5 stars. Pretty good NY style pizza from a family owned place in San Mateo. They have a lot of different toppings and types of pizza but we decided to try their NY style cheese pizza. Our pizza was made to order and fresh. Their combination of crisp and buttery crust with rich cheese flavor and tasty sauce makes this place a winner. The place is pretty low key with a good number of tables where you can sit and watch the game on their flat screen tv. The tables were a bit dirty and hadn't been serviced for a while, but we didn't care since we weren't eating there. And gotta love the huge cheesy mural of a gondola on the wall. Location is good - next to a small shopping mall so you can park on the street where Aldo's is located or across the street in the shopping mall. Have to give props to the history behind this place. Supposedly Aldo's has been at this location serving pizza since 1958 and was started by a guy named Aldo. It's changed owners since but still has a strong neighborhood pizza place feel. Based solely on pizza, not on price since I ate this at a work meeting. I tried all three types of pizza ordered (oink oink), spicy chicken (BBQ maybe?), vegetarian, and the Greek pepperoni. My first impressions (and seconds the next day) were good. The pizza is definitely of higher quality than typical delivery. The crust is good, the combination of toppings are great, and it is not too heavy on the cheese or the grease. I loved the spicy chicken especially.
