By far my favorite pizza place on the planet. My family has been eating here for more than 15 years and it never fails to impress. The thin crust pizza's are our favorite. They are always generous with the cheese and use just enough sauce so it's not over powering. Its a great place to sit with the family and enjoy an awesome pie or have delivered to savor at your own comfort. I have been going to this place for years. It has remained the same great pizza for years. While the service there is no thrills they are friendly. Yes it may have not changed or remodeled in years but it is just not that type of place. I think they are trying to keep the nostalgia of the 70's alive. My family has been eating at Aldo's for years. Even before moving to SF, I would hit up Aldo's every visit--sometimes it was the first stop after landing at SFO. It's a hotspot for Indians and even has a pizza catering to our community (The Star of India pizza). Throughout these years I've overlooked the dated interior and Manny, the owner who constantly berates his employees, hasn't updated the place ever, and provides little to no customer service. I've overlooked all of the above because the pie is amazing. However my last experience has ensured I will never go back to Aldo's. Why? Well I went with my family and ordered a cheese pizza. When it came out, it was apparent that pieces of cheese were missing. My cousin took a bite and immediately recognized that it had a pepperoni flavor. We put two and two together and concluded that Manny had given us a "cheese" pizza which was just a pepperoni pizza with the pepperoni removed. Disgusting. We are vegetarians (my cousin a convert) and it's appalling that he would do this to a customer. Even if we weren't vegetarians, it's insane to think that this would be acceptable to him. When we complained to our server, Manny instructed the server to tell us that nothing was wrong with our pizza. The server was dejected and knew this was wrong but Manny dressed him down. Neither he nor Manny addressed the situation. I had to go up to the counter and request they remake our order. I hope saving the $5 it cost to make the pizza was worth losing lifetime customers. read more

We used to love this pizza, and we still love Manny, but the pizza lacked pizzaz! We have been ordering pizza from Aldo's for years now, but we will not try it again. The crust tasted like white bread and was not the same as we used to get before the pandemic. The sauce was just so so and the little amount of cheese and one piece of canadian bacon and one piece of pineapple per slice was just not up to par. Manny, what happened? We ate here last Friday night, as we have many times over the past 35 years. The relevant part of my review is Manny's absolutely atrocious handling of his own deception. For 35 years, we have overlooked how nasty the place is kept up. We overlooked the filthy chairs that were there for the same amount of time until he recently replaced him. We overlooked noticing that his employees would carry the dough just under their armpit against their shirts with their bare hands from the fridge to the pizza making area. We overlooked Manny openly bitching about Indians and how cheap they are, when more than half his customers are likely Indian (you don't just creat a pizza called Star of India). We overlooked his berating of his own staff in front of others. Why? Because his pizza is that good! So what happened? One of the pizzas we ordered was a cheese pizza with extra sauce. We got the pizza and immediately wondered what the heck is wrong with this? From each slice there were missing portions of cheese and there was basically no trace of sauce. I took one bite into a slice and my taste buds spotted the issue. They had manually picked the pepperoni off the pizza and tried to pass it off to us as a cheese pizza. I told the guy who took our order so he said he would go talk to Manny. My cousin was sitting facing the register and could hear everything they were saying. Manny basically instructed the guy to tell us that there is nothing wrong with our pizza. What in the actual f?! Then they all went about their business as if nothing happened while we sat at our table waiting for a reply. Tired of waiting, my cousin walked up to the front and asked whether our replacement pizza was started. He said he would get started on it. So let me get this straight - if we said nothing we would have sat there twiddling our thumbs while Manny pretended nothing was wrong? It's not like he doesn't know who we are. We only eat there probably over a dozen times combined annually. Maybe a dozen times in 3 months for my cousin. I guess the last straw is when someone is not only willing to lie about what he has just done, but that he would do something like that in the first place. A shame. I'd stopped going after my cousin moved. This was the clincher. We've started going to Cicero's in Cupertino. Much better service. Pizza tastes great there too. Don't get me wrong. Aldo's pizza tastes great. I just prefer not to have meat picked off by hand then passed off as a cheese pizza. That's not the first time I've had a funny feeling he does this. Oh well. 'All was most average with this pizzeria I wasn't expecting much. The place was exceptionally clean and ready to go, rest room the same. The sause was good but missing something, nice amount of cheese, and just the right amount of filling for a supreme. I did not like the crust, it was like they did not let it rise( the crust was dead). So why am I writing this review? I call this order in at 3:45 last Friday 7/29/22 to be pickup at 5:00 (large pizza) I looked at my phone as I walked in it was 4:59. NOT READY 2 mins, okay I'll wait 2 then 5 then 10 and finally 17mins that's about the time it takes as a walk in. At about 10 mins I asked whats going on "very bissy " and that was the lie, I could see in this oven, only had one pie baking mine. Well I must protest. Yelp has some lame excuse for a review from 2005 as Aldo's first review. With all due respect my review is from 1977. Almost exactly 29 years ago my two best bros and I went to Aldo's to discuss our post HS graduation plans. As usual since I was the one with a mustache I ordered 3 Michelobs. I grabbed them and we convened in the corner. It was ok, everyone in the neighborhood knew us and we were good kids. The pizza was great, thin, crisp, zesty and hot. This is a review by a vegetarian Weird. Dense thin crust on the bottom with a very flaky kind of outside crust. On top they mix cheeses including some cheddar which gives it an orangey glow. Nothing really to recommend except that they used mostly florets when I got broccoli as a topping instead of putting a lot of spears on there (I like spear just fine but they never cook through on top of a pizza). This place is a trip. In the strip mall that time forgot, two old dudes and a woman arguing in what seems to be Portugese? The first old dude was quite slow and was impervious to the other two constantly arguing. I guess the second old dude could be the equivalent to the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld, except for Pizza. One of my co-worker could not get one of the choices in personal for some reason. So he opted for the chicken one. The rest of us went for a combo. What's special about the pizza here is the ultra thin crust. Good texture but still holds up to the sauce and toppings. It kind of reminds me of Cicero's in Cupertino but not quite as good. This was good neighborhood pizza, delicious without being self-indulgent (either for the chef or the diner) and the business is a long-standing fixture in its neighborhood -- one that offers good value and supports the community. So it's tricky to review a pizza place for a variety of reasons. Some like thin, some like thick crust. Some like lots of toppings and some like simple. I personally prefer thick crust and deep dish style, and I often prefer some of the unusual combinations that people associate with California more than with Chicago or New York. On the other hand, this pie was Just The Right Stuff. The thin crispy crust was delicious, flaky, and perfect for the pizza we had. The medium size was a proper amount for two people, we didn't feel stuffed afterward, and we didn't feel the need to slip out for more of something else. But the best part is the coupons. The box came plastered with coupons that offered a very good value on our next purchase... but that don't matter 'cause dig this. If you forget your coupon on your next visit, just bring a can of food and Aldo's will give you the coupon price. That's a right you actually DO have. I am so sad to have to do this, as kids we loved Aldo's grew up on it and its a Shoreview staple. But the other night, St. Patricks day I ordered a small cheese pizza. Nothing fancy just a plain cheese pizza. As we were getting ready to pay I decided I wanted a sprinkle and yes I said sprinkle of oregano and basil. The guy then charged me for 2 toppings. Are we kidding an extra 3 bucks for you to sprinkle some oregano and basil. This is not only upsetting but disturbing, everyone thats heard the story laughs like are you kidding, they charge for that. I'm like apparently so! I cant continue to frequent them unless I am heading home to where I have my own basil and oregano! Manny, I am so sorry! But this has got to change!!! read more

Only reason Aldo's doesn't get a 5 star is because of his customer service. Small businesses must provide high level of service even if their food rocks. It's like icing on the cake. Overall, I must say this place is a true hole-in-the-wall pizza joint. It's like taking the DeLorean back in time to 1982. However, the pizza is phenomenal. No wonder I see so many of my peeps here; Indian people love Aldo's because of the crispy, thin crust and flavorful toppings. Not having been to Chicago or New York for the "Premium Pizza Experience" to compare it to, this is by far my favorite pizza place! It is a bit on the expensive side, and the pizza is not huge....but the ingredients are all fresh and REAL! I highly recommend the "Classic Italian" Tomatoes, Sausage, Super thin Italian Ham, Onions, whole garlic cloves. All on a super crispy thin crust, and it comes with a white garlic sauce rather than the typical Red! MMmmmmmmm! The price is the only reason I gave it 4 insted of 5 stars. read more

The 4 star rating is based off the one item on the menu that I always get. My favorite pizza, their Chicken & Broccoli Pizza!!!! I love the taste, the chicken is fresh, the cheese is melted perfectly and the thin crunchy crust ranks it up to my fave pizza. The only down side is the cost/ size. Usually a medium pizza around the same price will feed about 3-4 people. Their medium feeds like 2.5 people so we usually have to end up ordering an X-Large which feeds about 4-5 people but it's still good. read more

I have been eating at this pizza joint for as long as I remember. This place is famous among Indians as lot of Indians are vegetarians and Manny, the owner years ago created a pizza called "Star of India" which all Indians love! Indians come from all over to eat Manny's pizza. We mostly do take out as the place is pretty old and run down. It's your neighborhood pizza place, simple and good pizza, but nothing fancy. But don't let the interior deter you away from this place. The pizzas are great. Ilene recently tried their Mexican pizza and it was sooooo good! I'm not gonna lie, I liked it more than "Star it India" and I have been eating that pizza for at least 20 years, so that says something! It took us 20 years to try another pizza at this place..Hahahah! Of course they have your normal, traditional pizzas too, but since we mostly eat Star of India, I wanted to highlight that. My husband and I were disappointed. I ordered the Super Veggie XL with extra cheese for delivery. The price on the website said that the price was $22.50 without the extra cheese. I was taken aback when Marcela, I think is her name, said that the total was $29.01. I thought, well that is the total with tax. The pizza arrived on time and the delivery person was nice enough. I gave the person $34.00 which was a generous tip. The pizza was nice looking, but I had my first bite I said that there is no way that it had extra cheese. It hardly had any cheese. I thought for the price, they were skimpy on the artichoke hearts and the other veggies. Meat is expensive, but generally veggies aren't. The website listed the pizza under Aldo's special pizzas. The combination and the all meat pizzas also are listed in the same section which gives the prices based on the size of the pie. The other pizzas on the menu were cheaper because....they are not special? My husband and I finished the pizza because we were so hungry not because it was the best pizza I ever had. When I called, Marcela answered the phone. I said that I had ordered the pizza and we were disappointed. We were charged extra for the extra cheese which was non-existent and the final total seemed really high. She asked me what was my address and verified what I ordered. She said that she was going to see who took the order (She did!!) and put the phone down. I found that to be a bit annoying because I could hear her use the cash register and help other customers. I know it is a business and others need attention, too, but I want resolution in a timely manner. She said that they could make us another pizza if we brought in the pizza so they can see it. I told her that unfortunately we finished the pizza. She said that in that case we could receive a discount the next time we order. I asked what was the discount. She said it would be the cost of the extra cheese. I said that it was really unlikely that I would ever do that. Plus, I have had experiences where one person has given me some resolution, but when I go to that business again, another person is unaware of the deal made and will not honor that resolution. She said that she would put a note on the computer. I know she was trying, but this stuff rarely goes well. Back to the cost of the extra cheese. She said that pizza in the future would cost around $25.00 because that pizza in that size is $24.74 with no extras. I asked how much do you charge for extra cheese and I think she said $1. I looked at the website and I did not see any notation about extras nor costs. I concluded that the website is outdated and needs to updated. The website has a disclaimer about prices changing without notice; however, it is professional to keep that information up to date. I consider that lazy because it is really easy for a web master to make information/content changes. Plus, it also smacks of being a little deceitful. I mentioned that I was looking at the website when I was ordering. All personnel should know the content of the website and be proactive when there are price increases. Well, I don't see myself going back for a $1.00 discount. We tried it and now we will go elsewhere. read more

A fun little spot, sort of old school. It made me feel like home, even though it was my first time there. TVs to watch the Giants and video game room for the kids, or those of us who still remember the good ol' days! Had a veggie combo and an all meat. I came here today for lunch. I left feeling depressed. The pizza is good; but after watching the interaction between the older gentleman who I think is the owner, and the two employees (who I think are family), I got the sense they were all miserable. The old guy yells at them for everything. I'm not even sure he realizes he's doing it, but I mean he yells and lectures to the point of it being awkward. Everyone seems stressed. We go here often. The pizza if fresh and delicious. You can really tell that this is made to order and it is worth the price. If you don't like the thin crust there are other styles of crust and even a whole wheat crust which is yummy, if you happen to be watching carbs. The only problem is that now it is tough to eat at other pizza places because they just aren't as good. So, we have to travel from Hayward to come here when we want delicious pizza. I was introduced to Aldo's several years ago by some friends. It was here that I had my first taste of a pepperoni and pineapple pizza. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I became a fan very quickly though for awhile if I wanted Aldo's, I had to drive there across town to pick it up because they would not deliver to my side of San Mateo due to distance. Eventually that was changed and I was having Aldo's delivered to my door on a weekly basis. I'm a big fan of the Manny's Favorite (Pepperoni, Salami, Sausage, Beef & Linguica). I usually will get this with a side of garlic cheese bread which is cheesy, greasy and unhealthy but so good. The chicken wings have a very tasty and spicy crust which is delicious. All pizzas are thin crust unless specifically requested which is a plus in my book because I was never a huge fan of thick crust. Finally Aldo's is the only place I know that offers Whole Wheat crust for their pizzas. Delivery is rather fast, I have never had to call or track down my order. I could do without the minimum delivery charge though. Sometimes I just want to order a pizza. The staff is friendly from what I have encountered. I have not eaten at the restaurant in quite some time. The delivery person is more than friendly. My only gripe is on more than one occasion they have one particular individual take my phone order who has trouble hearing my order and credit card number. Twice I could hear this person read back my credit card number rather loudly and I cringed hoping that nobody was nearby that could hear. There were at least two times that I was asked for the security code on the back of my card along with the zip code the card is billed to which I have never been asked for at a restaurant. read more

The whole wheat thin crust is absolutely great. To me it tastes better than most other crusts I've had and is healthy to boot. Just thinking about it I want it right now. The flavor of the crust is there but not overpowering like some other crusts. It is great with the meat toppings. Some of the best pizza I've ever had. Aldo's is hands down my favorite pizza place of all time. I've been going here for well over 30 years and the pizza is as good now as it was way back when it used to be called Pee Wee's. The best part of Aldo's is its unique thin crust. Thin, buttery with just the right amount of crunch at the crust end. There is no other crust out there like that. My favorite pizza there is the sausage pizza. Crumbled sausage over a three cheese blend with a perfect sauce. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The only thing that could make it better is if they went back to grinding the sausage on the pizza like they did back in the 80's. The ambience hasn't change since I've been going there as a wee little lad. There is still the Italian mural on the wall, there is still the Italian flag painted on the peg board and there is still the projection TV that hasn't worked for over 15 years. I think they do a fair amount of their business through take out b/c the place is usually pretty quiet. I would recommend however eating the pizza at the location so you can have it warm and straight out of the oven. If you must have it at home, I would suggest the half bake version so you still have that fresh out of the oven taste. There are other things on the menu, that aren't pizza but I've never had any desire to try them. You go to a pizza place for pizza. They will take reservations for large groups. For 2008, I've eaten at Aldos twice. Love the thin crust and quality toppings. Being a Carnivore, I prefer the pepperoni, linguisa, even salami. Toppings including the cheese... Quality. Aldo's salads however bring out the Vegan in me... very good Italian dressing. Regarding Pizza, Aldo's edges out North Beach in San Mateo, Totos in Belmont/San Bruno. Locally however, Amicis is still my favorite, can't beat their wood burning ovens and dough, thin or super-thin crust, fresh garlic no matter whether you crave margarita or pepperoni, Amici's is #1 on the Peninsula. Ambiance: I know their busy, but The Male Staff are not your typical Italian Owners that are attentive and full of personality-humor. Nor do they have any interest in getting to know their customers. My friend took me here and I was skeptical but now I'm a believer. This falls into the "slightly strange" pizza category--not quite NY style, but similar. They have this amazing flakey crust that reminds me of pastry. Mmm pastry and pizza, how can you go wrong with that combo? The sauce, cheese and toppings were high quality. My buddy, who is a somewhat regular recommends against the XL and Giant size pizzas because supposedly they make the crusts better on the smaller pizzas (?). They boast a half-baked (no pun intended) pizza you can bring home to finish in the oven, which was the main selling point. But the truth of the matter is that it just didn't have the pizzeria in it. You know how when you were a kid and your mom tried to save money and made pizza dough at home? And it just quite wasn't right? You know, kinda buttery / flaky and a bit waxy. It didn't have the sustenance in a true pizza crust. No corn meal, no crisp - more like a stale graham cracker. At $15 for a medium half Hawaiian, half mushroom sausage, I was expecting a lot more. OK while I'm on the subject of pizza in my "neighborhood" (why don't I live in the city??!...madness I tell you but one day soon I will return). I digress. I'm giving Aldo's a decent mark. As previously mentioned there are no "good" pizzarias this side of Chicago or NYC (depending on your preference). There are a few ok places...like Little Star, Zachary's, etc....and down here I like Aldo's. It is it's own style...definitely not in the mold of any established style. Some highlights: 1) The thin crust is actually enjoyable (not NYC so beware if you are expecting this) but has a nice light texture and crispiness. 2) The toppings are fresh and decent. 3) Their delivery is awesome for my area...seems less than 30 minute (eat that Dominos!) every time I order. The folks that work there are easy-going too...I've gone there a few times after hitting my favorite dry cleaners and ordered a pizza and waited around watching soccer and drinking a beer. Easily the best pizza in San Mateo. I've lived in San Mateo all my life and tried almost every place around. I can honestly say this is a great pizza. Yes, the crust isn't traditional. It's a thin crust, but in my opinion it's one of the best tasting crusts I've tried. It's crispy and flaky (almost like a real pie crust). And has a great amount of flavor. o yum! I just ate there for the first time since a friend of mine highly recommended it. Their thin crust wheat pizzas are super delish. I love that its crunchy on the bottom, but soft when you bite into it! I have not seen any other place offer wheat crust and when I try to make it at home, the crust becomes too crunchy, so this is THE place to go for yummy wheat crust. Their toppings are super fresh and tasty too. Their menu is also really creative: pick your crust (thin, tick, california), pick your size (xs, s, m, l, xl, xxl), pick your toppings!
