Credit where credit is due! I live in the neighborhood - I've been hating on Village Host based on Yelp Photos / Google Photos. Pizza just didn't look good. But I had a nagging feeling I had to try it. 1.5 years after moving into the neighborhood, when my wife wouldn't give it a shot, I ordered it on an evening when it was only for me. Ordered a medium custom pizza - sausage, artichoke, kalamata olives. Picked it up. Only issue was that there was a "printing problem" and my pizza wasn't ready on time. They were apologetic and whipped it up fast. Pizza crust was crispy. Pizza was flavorful. Looked thick but somehow was still airy. My take was that this is *comfort pizza.* This is not a pizza that will end up on a "best of the Bay Area pizza." But if you're looking for comfort at home, look no further. Holds up better than pizzas I've taken out from other places in the area. Solid. Will order again. I'm so sorry for disrespecting you. read more

Great food and cozy family vibes. Pizza is good but there burgers are really good too

First and foremost Village Host is a Peninsula institution. It's one of the few that have survived the test of time. I remember a pizza party or two at their San Bruno location. Once upon a long time ago. Here's the good: Pizza ordered via Door Dash (which sucks ASS to begin with). But this may have been the first time ordering a pizza even paying the $3 for priority, that pizza arrived Hot and seriously crispy crust. I orderd a veggie some extras. What I was not wowed by and a little shocked the pizza was bland and lacked seasoning. I had to add a few spices to bring it to life. I don't know which location it came from but regardless. There needs to be some guidance and coaching for improvement. read more

Worst service ever. I ordered delivery online. After 45 minutes, the order didn't arrive, so I called. I spoke to Kyle. I told him my delivery had not arrived. Kyle couldn't find my order. He said, maybe it is a pickup? He said he would check on the order. After a minute, he came back online, and said "Your order is out for delivery." When I asked how long before it would be delivered, he hung up the phone. After another 40 minutes without receiving the pizza, I called back. Again, got Kyle, explained I had not received the pizza i ordered. Kyle said "Sir, that pizza is a pickup order." I used to come here with my mom a lot growing up. I remember that the guys behind the bar were always friendly. My favorite part was the endless salad bar and the arcade in the back of the restaurant. Given that Burlingame is a very family friendly community this place gets a ton of business. When it's a super nice day out and your kid has just finished playing soccer, best believe the post game lunch was probably at Village Host. Covid changed so much about the restaurant industry and Village Host is no different. I was a little disappointed on my last visit post covid when I saw that they got rid of the salad bar option and you can only get a packaged house salad. I understand the reasoning behind it, given that the pandemic changed the way we engage with food but as I mentioned, my favorite part about coming here as a kid was that the salad bar was endless. If you prefer a crispy, crumbly crust then their pizza is just right for you. I prefer a more doughy crust and my thickness just depends on my mood. They don't skimp you on the toppings either which is nice. We got a medium half pepperoni and half pepperoni, black olives, and onions. And if you're not in the mood for a pizza they have other options like sandwiches, hot dogs, and burgers. read more

This was the best pizza place I've been to in a long time. I walked in and was immediately hit by such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The people behind the counter were so sweet and the food was amazing. I came here with my cousin who grew up with this restaurant as a child and we both loved it! The Combination pizza came with tomato sauce, mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, pepperoni, salami, Italian sausage, mushrooms, peppers, onions, and olives, all on a soft, doughy, crispy crust dusted with cornmeal. The Village Host Special sandwich came with salami, pastrami, and ham, along with melted Swiss and cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mustard on a soft, crusty French roll, served with a bag of Lay's chips on the side. While decent, both of the items we ordered were lacking in flavor and required quite a bit of dressing up with condiments. We've found ourselves a little hidden gem in Burlingame. Per Father's Day request we were given the task to find a pizza spot. I wanted to try somewhere new and came across this place. Right off of the freeway on Broadway Ave sits this hidden gem. It's right at the corner but it is a bit quiet that you could miss it. Their menu is pretty small and to the point. They offer sandwiches, pizzas and a few specials! They have a bar and from the looks of it, they used to offer a salad bar as well. I assume due to Covid they put a hold on that as it currently is a holding place for pizza boxes. We ordered a small ham & pineapple pizza for the kids and a small pesto chicken pizza for myself and the hubby. I'm a crust person and the crust was delicious. It has a good crunch when you take a bite into it but still just enough doughy-ness between the crust n toppings. Both pizzas were good but I'd have to say the pesto chicken was better of the 2. Small pizza came with 8 slices and was enough to feed the family and still has some for the girls to finish off for dinner. It's a large restaurant. You could definitely hold a party in there. Reminds me of the old round tables that had arcades in the back of the restaurant but those are currently unplugged. Definitely will be coming back! read more

We love coming here. We make the 30 minute drive when the cravings for good pizza crust kick in. Pizza is always well done & loaded with toppings. Sizes are perfect and so is the pricing. This is my go to place for pizza and has been for over a decade. Their subs are also very tasty but I usually crave their pizza. I went there recently for a sandwich and used a gift card to pay for my order. Imagine my shock when I saw a charge labeled "convenience fee." Gift cards don't have a processing fee and are treated like cash in card form so they shouldn't charge a "convenience fee" aka credit card processing fee. But the reason I'm giving a three stars is I was not told there would be a surcharge. This was a sneak charge and that's very underhanded. Located on Broadway in what some might consider "old Burlingame", this homey restaurant offers anything from pizza to burgers and sandwiches. Dependable as satisfying are the two words I'd use to describe Village Host. They consistently churn out hot, fresh and unassuming pizzas. Nothing fancy but nonetheless tasty. I especially love how nicely cooked/crispy their pizzas are. The employees are always extremely patient and friendly. Orders are prepared in a quick and timely manner. Their beer signage says they have beers that they don't have, they say they don't have pizza slice serving utensils when I asked for one to serve their mediocre pizza to my family. Their staff was just there...not really helpful and sort of annoyed that someone would ask them any questions. Clearly, this location is all about online and takeout orders. Pre-pandemic, this was a destination for families and get togethers, now you'd be better off finding a more family friendly pizza place for dine-in. Try Zorba's in Millbrae. read more

One of the most blindingly bad pizzas ever I've eaten, a crusty unforgiving hard as cardboard, zero chewy texture, not light nor deep dish nor Neapolitan nothing nada. It was a busy Friday night and the place was respectably packed with couples, families, singles munching away, apparently content. But how? Why? With what pizza? Did they get a different crust than we did? Had they ever eaten pizza to compare this monstrosity? It's a mystery. The crust was actively HARD to bite into. And yes, though I can be picky, my husband who'll eat any pizza in the world, even he has a mild look of surprise when he first bit into it, as if, "can this really be?" I wonder if they're having an off night and judging by the rest of these Yelp reviews, others thought the crust was fine. The toppings were fine--oozing cheese and solid pepperoni, sausage, red onion, mushrooms, everything good quality and in good ratio proportions. We also got their "pizza sandwich," a misnomer in that it's not a true sandwich nestled toppings in between a roll, as I was imagining. Instead, it's more a French bread toasted and/or baked with pizza toppings. It was fine, just not my fantasy sandwich. It comes with potato chips. My husband appreciated they have non-alcoholic beer. The vibe here is fantastic, kinda warm and polished wood tables with banquette type seating, a bar area up front. Way in the back there's a place with video games and juke box with a big screen tv and where I imagine teenagers or kids have birthday parties. Here's a breakdown of our order: -garlic chips appetizer: like cheesy garlic bread but not as doughy, more so like cheesy garlic thin crust pizza. Very tasty and the little kids loved it! -village host special baked sandwich: generous sized sandwich, like a classic Italian deli sandwich but instead of cold, it's heated in the oven to perfection. -vegetarian pizza: they do it right! Something about their crust/dough is on point. But at the same time, you'd have to try to make a veggie pizza bad! Again, a fine option for the 40 attendees of the conference my small non-profit was hosting. This is a 15-20 minute walk from the Hyatt Regency SFO. We didn't have reservations on a Friday at 5:45pm but the entire back room was open, plus a couple booths right by the back (a couple customers actually separated their table from a larger one so we would have room to sit together!). We ordered the pizzas by phone on the way and they came out within 10 minutes of our arrival. We also ordered a second batch while we were there - they are fast! The pizzas have a thick crust and thick, melty cheese. Of the pizzas that stood out to me: The pesto was lacking in flavor, and the Hawaiian pineapple had very savory ham and very juicy, sweet pineapple chunks. The veggie and the combo were the least popular. The drinks are serve-yourself, so we did have to go up to the bar, get pitchers filled, and bring them around to our tables ourselves.
