I'm not sure why this location is not technically listed on Yelp, but it's been there for many years. I've eaten there on several occasions in the past. I'm usually good about reviewing places that I go to, so I'm not sure why this one got away from me in writing a review previously. There's a few other Ale Emporium locations around the metro area that I have not tried. This is the one that's closest to me. In the past, the food has been acceptable. Their menu offers appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, pizza and they also have a separate full bar area. They have TVs all around the place along with sports memorabilia decor. Today I decided to try a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and I had some potato salad with it. The potato salad was exceptionally good. The Philly cheesesteak was just OK. It could've used some more meat, onions and peppers on it as well as cheese. They don't offer an au jus dipping sauce. That was disappointing. The sandwich was just OK. The toasted sub bread had a little too much butter on it. The meat was tender enough, but it was also really chopped up quite a bit. My guest had a club sandwich and coleslaw. They liked their meal but mentioned that the coleslaw had a little too much mayonnaise. They actually had more quantity (sandwich) to their meal than I did in mine. The pricing was expected considering how much it costs just to get the basics anymore at a sit down bar / restaurant. I'm giving them three stars because it's really gone downhill as far as the cleanliness of the place. When we first sat down, our table had some kind of liquid all over it. It was a spill that was not cleaned up prior to us sitting down. There were lots of open tables, but that's the table we got. I asked the waitress if she could wipe it off and she did. Our server was friendly and attentive enough. Our food didn't come out too soon vs. didn't have to wait a real long time as well. We went earlier in the day so it wasn't busy or crowded. I did not visit the bathroom, but sometimes I do just to see what that looks like. It can be an indicator of what the rest of the place could look like, especially the condition of the kitchen. The place really does need a good scrubbing down on the walls and the floors as well as the baseboards to make the grade regarding Chef Ramsay's specs anyway. The menus looked old and worse for the wear. They were sticky and could use a good wiping down or maybe they need to print a whole new batch. The parking can get sparse and tricky if it's really busy. I am not sure if I would go back. There's a few other restaurants I'd like to try instead. Greenwood and the south side in general definitely does not lack restaurants to choose from. read more

Apparently this is the place to be on a Sunday around 11:30 am. I was not expecting it to be as busy as it was. Luckily they have tons of seating so we didn't have to wait at all. We sat on the heated patio and it was so nice and warm. We split the huge Bavarian pretzel for an appetizer. I've had this before at the Castleton location and it was as good as I remember. Both the nacho cheese raspberry wasabi mustard are good too. The snack size boneless wings are enough for a meal for sure. I went with the Hermaican flavor. They smelled so good. There wasn't a lot of spice so I think I prefer the No-Way and Three mile Island sauces I've had in the past. I also would've liked more celery and carrots but that's just a personal preference and most people are probably more than ok with just a veggie garnish. My brother had the tenderloin and my mom had the burger. They both enjoyed them. There are lots of tv's everywhere you look, prefect for sports. This time around the Winter Olympics were on. I have been to all the Ale Emporiums in town and they are all fairly similar. The space is usually pretty crowded on Saturday evenings, so expect a wait, but service is generally good. It's definitely not a great set up for a band (too small, feel like you are sitting on the speakers, reverb) - so if you want conversation, this wouldn't be the place for you on Fridays. The seltzer selection was limited, but most people show up for the beers so not a big deal. The food has never disappointed. I tried the new Naki Burger and it was delicious! Definitely recommend trying it if you like the hermanaki style profile. read more

He had our drinks to us pretty quickly but the wait for him to return to get our order was quite some time. We love Ale Emporium, so it's unfortunate that the last time we went was poor. A young girl was our waiter, not great service because she wanted to go home from her shift.... the time was about 3:00 pm that we came into eat. My sisters food had a hair in it, and she angerly grabbed the plate from my sisters hand and ran to the back without saying anything. She then came back out with the plate and angerly said "where is the hair?" It was just a terrible attitude and way to address a customer in general. Eventually my sister got another plate of her food, she had brought the receipt by and said "no rush on this." But then after about 10 minutes (we were watching the world cup), she urged my dad she needed to get off of her shift so he needed to pay and write the tip on the receipt... lol her attitude was just terrible! Wasn't checking on us at all, and her section only had us and one other table. Just very annoying and rude honestly. read more

Holy cow, this place is even bigger on the inside than it seems. There is a spacious patio with covered and uncovered tables. Be warned, especially because the patio is on a corner, the wind can really whip through if you're at a table on the edge of the patio. So let me start by saying thank you to the entire staff at the Greenwood location. My daughter got married on New Years day and we wanted to treat the newlyweds and other members of our family to a welcome to the familia dinner (especially where I didn't have to cook ) so we decided on The Emporium (at first we had selected the Castleton loc but unfortunately they don't allow anyone under 21 yrs old) so lucky for us we choose the Greenwood loc! We had agreed to get there by 7 pm judging by the parking lot when we arrived we just knew it was going to be an 1-2 hour wait! But the young man (sorry I didn't catch his name) he advised us that it may be an hour wait but he'll check in with us just in case the wait is short and he did exactly what he said he would do.. we waited for approx 15-20 mins after arriving we were all seated and our host Christian was awesome! To have to deal with a party of 10 ppl including 2 small kids he was so patient with us but attentive and got all our orders correct! I will most definitely be back to this location (hopefully without 8 other ppl) the food was hot and fresh and I love that they make all their sauces in house! And I want to send a shout out to Brittany the Greenwood loc manager for responding to my email so quickly regarding our upcoming visit! What the heck has happened to the Ale Emporium? Ate lunch there today and it was terrible. Somebody messed with the breaded tenderloin and it was the shits. The fries were McDonald's fries. The tenderloin was bland, ugly and flat. It had no character. One thing was good though was the chicken rice soup. The food slaps every time! The Hermanaki wings are always spot on. I recommend tossing in spicy garlic sauce if that's your thing. The margharti pizza was delicious it makes me want to try more pizzas from there. This place is just okay! My boneless wings were dry. The ale panini used anise seed somewhere in the mix. Both the online and the printed beer list had beers that were no longer available. Very busy, there was a 45 min wait for 2 on a Saturday night, so people seem to like it. But it's a thumbs down for me. Oh, and there was an up charge of $2.50 for fries! My husband and I stopped in here for a late dinner tonight after visiting his mother in the hospital nearby. Right off the bat staff were not very friendly. I don't know if they were tired or it was because it was kind of slow, but no one really had any emotion. After being seated, our server seemed to be going out of her way to do small things she knew would annoy us? It was really odd. We were given no time to look over the menu or even sit at the table and settle in before she appeared and was repeatedly asking what we would like to order. At one point she came over to refill our waters and she picked up mine to add more water to an already completely full cup (I had taken only one drink from it) and overfilled it so that water splashed all over me, my phone, and the table. Before our food came out she brought out tiny appetizer plates for us to "share our wings with." When the wings did come out, the plates could fit our sauce cups and barely one wing without knocking anything off the plate while cutting them. The wings always have good flavor, but we were disappointed that about 1/3rd of them were pretty dry. When we did want our server to come over so we could cash out she was nowhere to be seen for 10-15 minutes. Finally, when paying the tab, she held the tablet out, but had it angled towards her so she could see what we were tipping, which was uncomfortable since we did not have a good experience and then felt pressured to tip her more because she was staring. Every other restaurant we go to that pays that way leaves the device at the table and then the server will come back to grab it when we are done. It was overall a very unpleasant time and I would only recommend stopping in at their OG location in Castleton. read more

We stopped in the Ale Emporium for lunch with our grandchild. We arrived early about 11 a.m. so they were not too busy yet. The hubby and I got a cocktail, he had a beer and I ordered a margarita. I was not a fan of the marg and did not finish it. We ordered a grilled cheese and mac and cheese for our grandson, a Margherita pizza for me, a breaded tenderloin with sweet potato fries for the hubby. Our waitress checked on us after serving our food to make sure we were good. My hubby absolutely LOVED his sweet potato fries so I had to give them a try and I have to agree those were the crispiest best fries I had ever had as well. He liked his tenderloin and I enjoyed my Margherita pizza although it was not a typical Margherita pizza but the crust was crispy and there was lots of cheese and had two slices to eat as leftovers the next day. The grandson only ate half his grilled cheese and a bite or two of the Mac but you never know about kids! We sat on the family side and the interior was not much to be enthused about but we got decent service and a good meal. We will likely stop in here again to try something different. read more

It was just okay. Chips were a little stale. Salsa was sweet and queso was good with chunks of tomato and peppers. I hit the Mac and cheese for dinner. It was good with a nice cheesy layer on top. We also go the Hermanaki chicken salad. They have a few special sauces for their wings. North my wife and son love the hermanaki sauce. Sauces HERMAN-STYLE - Secret blend of peppers and spices, mixed with the Ale's secret sauce. HERMANAKI® - Secret blend of peppers and spices, the Ale's secret sauce, and teriyaki sauce. HERMAZIAN - Secret blend of peppers and spices, the Ale's secret sauce, and Asian sweet and sour sauce. HERMAICAN - Secret blend of peppers and spices, the Ale's secret sauce, and Caribbean jerk seasoning. This salad had Grilled chicken smothered in the sauce on top of bed of fresh greens with mandarin oranges, tomatoes, tortilla strips and blue cheese dressing. Really good. Usually I get one of their pizzas. They are so good with a crisp crust and lots of toppings and loaded with cheese. We have eaten here many times and have never left unhappy. read more

Ambiance: This is a pretty cool place! It kind of has a Rock Bottom vibe with lots of musical instruments and concert posters on the wall except with a beer theme instead. They have TVs lining every wall with a good variety of sports on although no audio or subtitles if you're actually invested in watching. Instead, they have unobtrusive music playing on the speakers and we noticed they installed acoustic tiles on the ceiling to minimize echoes so the conversation volume of this place is actually really good. There's plenty of natural light from all the windows and it's generally just a very comfortable restaurant to spend an evening at. Part-way through our dinner, a duo started playing live music on the patio which was super cool. Service was very friendly and food came out in a reasonable time. Food: Wings - If you're struggling to decide, definitely get the wings. They're juicy and fairly meaty compared to the tiny wings you get from places like Buffalo Wild Wings. The Herman-style is spectacular with a perfect spice rubs that gives the wings a complex lightly-spicy blackened flavor. The spicy garlic was like a slightly more garlic-heavy version of a traditional buffalo sauce which wasn't bad at all but paled in comparison to the Herman-style. FYI they are served by weight which is why you don't see how many are in a snack vs regular size. 5/5. Pork Tenderloin - From a technical standpoint, this is a very good tenderloin. It is not too thick/thin, not too salty, the pork is tender, and the breadcrumb breading is crisp. The main problem is that it is served with a bun and absolutely nothing else; no pickle/lettuce/tomato/mayo/mustard/etc. This made it an extremely dry meal and if you ate it with the soft bun, the bun would make it even drier and negate the crunch of the breading. The only thing that saved this was using ketchup. 3.5/5 Naki Burger - Pretty underwhelming. The burger was charred and overdone, the Hermanaki sauce was too light, and the canned pineapple they use is bland. Using a slightly thicker patty, cooking it to medium rare/medium, caramelizing a few layers of the sauce, or serving sauce on the side would've gone a long ways towards improving the dish. 2/5 Fries - Pretty generic, they get cardboard-y if you don't eat them fast enough. Almost felt like a waste of calories 3/5 Tots - Much stronger option! They come crispy and stay that way, you also get a ton of them. If they had fun dipping sauces it would be perfect. 4.5/5 Beer - They have a fair selection of beer with lots of Indy and Midwest options, you have no trouble finding a beer in the style you like Overall, this is a very solid restaurant. I would gladly come back for the atmosphere and friendly service but primarily for the beer and wings. We plan on trying their pizza offerings next time, but so far, the non-wing options have been unimpressive. read more
