Wow, this is a great option for really upscale and authentic Mediterranean food in Garner! I've only gone once and I got the Gyro Sandwich and Baklava to go just to get a sample of the place. I opted for a Side Salad and figured it would be the token greens with a light tasteless vinaigrette. However, the salad was amazing! Crisp fresh greens, a lovely light but flavorful dressing that marinated the tomatoes perfectly, and a big chunk of Feta that seems to be made fresh in the store. It was the best Greek Salad I've ever had. The Gyro Sandwich was a good size and flavorful with the taziki dressing, lettuce, tomatoes and slivers of red onion. In fact I pulled some of the meat out because it was more than I could eat. My only complaint is that I wish it was fresh grilled lamb, rather than the lamb and beef mystery mixture meat, but the toppings were good. The Baklava was Excellent! The amazing thing is they also serve a wide variety of Pastas, Pizzas, Seafood, Pork Chops, Filet Mignon, and Greek Specialties such as Keftedes (Cyprus style Meatballs), Beef Stifado (Beef Stew over Rice and Veggies), Moussaka (Baked ground beef, tomato, eggplant & potatoes topped with bechamel), Kleftiko (Slow Cooked Lamb Shank) and Pastitsio, which is a Greek style Lasagne. I don't claim to have ever tried the above, but I sure want to now! Like others say, it used to be an tired old Chinese Restaurant and unfortunately it really needs a makeover. Friendly staff, food was well prepared: Potato and Leek soup, to DIE for. as an appetizer, we got done with that and actually realized we haven't even ordered our meals...lol! I had the crab cakes, my wife had the spanakopita, with a side salad with house made dressing. the DRESSING alone was enough for 5 stars. Just had dinner here and we were very happy with the service and food. We had the hummus and pita. Both were fresh and tasty. For our meal we had the gyro platter and falafel pita. Baklava was awesome. Will be back and try some of the special and the lamb shank. Ok the decor could be a little better but the food and service is what matters to me and I was very pleased. OMG! My Mom and Dad have raved about Alexander's for weeks now but my husband and I just finally made it over today. Let me tell you , my parents weren't kidding! Alexander's is absolutely adorable and the food is FABULOUS! I had the vegetarian sample plate and every item on it was delicious! Some of the best hummus and baba ganoush that I have had in years! My husband had the gyro which was also flawless and delicious! The staff is great and the restaurant is very clean! I can't wait to go back and try some more of their amazing menu items! You really can't go wrong with any of the choices we've tried. Be sure to get the saganaki if you are there with a group - it's a wonderful, fun appetizer & mini show in one! Crab cakes and spanikopita are my favorite things but lots of close seconds! And the desserts are divine - especially the limoncello cake or the galatembourika (if you get incredibly lucky to be there when they have it). I am appalled at what I was charged for lunch here today - not to mention the disappointing quality of the food I paid for. I arrived at this Mediterranean restaurant expecting beef kabob on the menu which I did not find. I found lamb, chicken, seafood, pasta... no beef. There was nothing on the menu that cost more than $17 - even the seafood which is usually more expensive than beef. So the prices seemed reasonable. When I inquired about the beef kabob, my server said she'd ask the chef if they could prepare that for me... which was very nice of her! She came back and told me it was no problem so we were off to a good start! I ordered beef kabob with rice, side salad and a side of pita bread with tzatziki sauce. I had water to drink. The pita bread and side salad were very good. No complaints. Then the main lunch was delivered and the beef was completely raw inside. No biggie, it happens. I showed a server and she took it back for me to be corrected. I asked her to bring it in a to-go box when it was ready because I needed to get back to work. So I also asked for the check. She brought the boxed, recooked meal out and I cut the beef open to check it. It was cooked more so fine.... I needed to check out and head home to get back to work as the delay to recook the beef extended my lunch hour longer than I'd anticipated. I looked at the bill and it was $54.84! Now.... I am well aware that EVERYTHING has gone up in price. Everything... like beef, lamb, chicken, seafood and pasta! Yet nothing on their menu was over $17... so how do a few chunks of beef add up to three times that amount? And by the way, this is not high-quality beef!! It's not filet or prime rib... it is tough, chewy, has no flavor.... it tasted terrible! Honestly, I had to throw it out when I got home and tried it. $55 in the trash! I expected to leave having spent about $30 and it ended up being double that. I fully admit I am partly to blame because I should've asked for clarity on what they planned to charge me for this beef kabob and I did not do that. My bad.... I own that part of this debacle. But with nothing on the menu greater than $17 there is NO way I'd have expected to be charged $54.84 for what I got! Especially given I'm questioning whether the beef was even actually beef. It didn't taste like it at all! So in a nutshell, if you like being charged three times the reasonable cost of something, and don't want quality beef, you could possibly like this place. If not, avoid it at all cost! I did let the server know I was shocked by the price and I noted how it wasn't in line with anything else on the lunch menu but she offered nothing but an apology for my disappointment. I will not return. Disgusted that I paid $60 for a meal that ended up in the trash. (except the side salad and pita bread) read more

We have been to Alexander's a few times now. Last nights rating was more of a 3 star unfortunately. As usual they pulled off the seafood dishes; the stuffed salmon was divine, the sea bass was delicious however the risotto served with it was very watery and tasteless with the exception of a heavy lemon flavor. The beef kebab was meh and served with day old potatoes. (We all know how potatoes taste that have been reheated!) Come on Chef- You can't charge $30 for a plate and not take the time to have 50 cent fresh potatoes made! The appetizers were spot on delish! (Saganaki and the Greek bruschetta) We finished off dinner with baklava and pumpkin cheesecake, both disappointing. The baklava was drowning in honey and tasted old. I hope, that they are not showing the beginning signs of failure due to Covid. On a Friday night they only had 4 tables and we spent 2 1/2 hours there. Our tab for 4 people was $300.00 with tip. We will go one more time because we love the seafood there so much, but at the higher cost of dining here, we expect no disappointment. read more

Keep in mind we are "Lupper" folks. You know there are Brunchers but we like to lunch dinner. The appetizer we had, being Spanakopita. All both of us could say here was let's order 4 more and make it a meal! Lordy it was good! I ordered the Grouper special my wife the Lamb and Risotto. My dish was great, loved every bite, my wife's was good but overall she was not a fan. The wine list was minimal but the selection offered great labels Now just a FYI, the portions here are tremendous! We ended up boxing up our leftovers and had two other meals! Okay, since today is my day for rewarding deserving restaurants: Here's the deal: I requested that my folks take me here for my birthday, sight unseen. The food is excellent. So very, very good. I ordered the appetizer/sampler as a meal, which included: baba ganoush, tzatziki, lamb meatballs, feta, calamari, hummus, spanakopita, and gyro meat. My folks ordered the stuffed chicken, and ravioli, which they weren't able to finish. I visited the next day, and ate some of the leftovers, cold. Fantastic. They offered a light dessert, which my parents loved. The service was very good, if not excellent. Why they lack the full "five star treatment" is atmosphere: The music was soft, almost inaudible, and I heard the conversation of the folks in the nearby booth, perfectly. During the latter part of the week, they have live music. I hope they don't mix it in the same way. The booths are crowded. My sister is a skinny girl, and I'm an average guy, by BMI standards. It was still tight. The decor needs an update. Bottom line: If you're unconcerned about atmosphere, five stars. Great food. But if you want to be comfortably content, you're going to have reservations here. read more

I always say the hole in the walls are some of the best restaurants and this place is the same. It's in a strip mall beside the post office and you would not assume to get fine dining in such a place, but here we are. The ambiance is set to be very Meditteranean and the food is even better. If you are looking for the American version of the dish, you might be disappointed but if you know what true Meditterean dishes are supposed to taste like, you'll be pleased. Ask if they have grilled octopus, as that's not on the menu and it's fantastic when they have some. I am a fan, will be back. read more

One was called saganaki and the other was called spanakopita. Tonight the food was very good as usual, we've never experienced poor food here. However, the last two trips the service has been been poor and tonight was very poor. The waitresses seemed to be paying more attention to what was going on in the parking lot than tending to our table. My first glass of wine was wrong, the waitress argued with me over it then finally gave the correct wine. Our meal showed up and we didn't see the waitress again. A second waitress came by 45 minutes later to see if we wanted our check. Apparently the first waitress left and din't bother telling anyone. We asked for desert and that seemed to be putting them out. We were able to get to order but felt the pressure was on to get us out of the restaurant. It's difficult to justify the cost of a meal here if this is the type of service you're going to receive. read more

Went last night for the 1st time. Mother-in-law's Birthday dinner. Food was great, I had the Paella and a Caesar salad. All the seafood in my dish was fresh and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately there was no bar but the do have Beer and wine. Our waitress wasn't the brightest bulb in the bunch. But we didn't let that sway our experience. It pains me to give a bad review, but, after coming here several times over two years, I can say I wont return for greek food here anymore. Staff is lovely and the greek bruschetta is amazing, so that is why I gave 1 star. The menu was OVER-PRICED two years ago. But, now it's outright price gouging w/the Covid pandemic. I understand that restaurants struggled and even went out of business. That gives no business license to increase prices in such an absurd and obnoxious way. The gyro dinner plate used to be about $20. We went to dinner on Mother's Day, that same gyro dinner was $28! If the portion would have been the same, I would have understood. The gyro amount was much less, the roasted lemon potatoes were gone and it barely fed my 11 year old. $28 for a dinner that fed a child is outrageous!!! This is a greek restaurant that offered 1 greek dinner on their Mother's Day menu, and then skimped on the portions. My mom's salmon was good. The lemon risotto was good too, but, the prices are not justifiable to me. We will look for another greek restaurant. The quality and portions of the food at Alexanders are okay, but smaller portions and hefty prices leave a bad taste in the mouth! read more

Seasoned fries are the best I have ever eaten and I was given so many it was hard to close the container! Great price for all of this fantastic fresh quality and large quanity. My husband and I went to Alexander's for a very early dinner on Friday. As soon as we walked in we were intrigued with a delicious warm smell. The decor is a little mismatched and could use some updating, but everything else is so fantastic that the color scheme doesn't make a bit of difference. Our waitress (I wish I would've caught her name) was outstanding! She was attentive, friendly, helped with a wine pairing (which was spot on), and explained Greek traditions as our food came out. She made the experience! We ordered the spanakopita and saganaki for appetizers. The spanakopita (spinach pastry) was flaky, rich and light all at the same time - very good. The saganaki, which I had never had was so good. Cheese in a buttery lemon sauce with a few chunks of tomato lit on fire in front of you while yelling "Opa!" For the entree I ordered the gyro plate and my husband got moussaka. My gyro plate was huge! There was delicious lamb, soft pitas, roasted potato wedges, tzatziki sauce, and a delightful salad perfectly dressed. I couldn't have been more pleased. My husband said his moussaka was very good also, with the eggplant being perfectly cooked. Even though we were stuffed and I took half of mine to go, my husband got some dessert to go because he couldn't resist. If you are in the Garner area, Alexander's is a must! read more
