We just heard about this new place. To start we were served a DELICIOUS lentil soup (free). I ordered the falafel plate and my husband had the mixed shawarma plate and a falafel wrap. Excellent food at this new Mediterranean spot in WF, taking over in the former Grandma's Diner space. The interior is a holdover from the prior venue - booths along the left wall and a few tables. Order at the counter, they bring the food to the table. A great selection of favorites on the menu. Everything from kebobs to shawarma. And some delicious desserts. Service is friendly and quick. Time from order to service was 10 minutes. Tried a mix shawarma platter. Generous helpings of aromatically seasoned chicken and beef are served over perfect basmati rice. The meats are tender and moist and very flavorful. I chose taziki and stuffed grape leaves as sides. Taziki is tangy and creamy. Perfect for dipping the pita bread. Grape leaves exactly as they should be - rolled tight and stuffed with seasoned rice. Also tried a mix shawarma bowl. Same ingredients as the platter but served over salad instead of rice. Can't forget about the falafel wrap. Earthy, crunchy falafel plus salad veggies in a grilled wrap. Delicious. On this nite also treated to some complimentary lentil soup. OMG this is delicious. Worth a trip to Yumma just for the soup! Lastly grabbed a few cubes of baklava for dessert. Classic prep done right. Layers and layers of philo interspersed with chopped nuts and bathed in sweet sticky honey. Baklava is my weakness and Yumma does it right. We met the owner and his family. Just had lunch here and its wonderful. Started with lentil soup (free) and it was one of the best lentil soups I've had The baba ghanoush was also very good, smokey but not too much where it's not good. The two bowls were very good. My family rarely goes out to eat anymore because of the cost of living in this economy, but on a whim we decided to visit Yumma after church, as I have been craving shawarma recently. The staff was extremely warm, humble, and inviting. On numerous occasions they came over and socialized with the guests and asked about the food, and were extremely friendly to my small children. They were kind enough to give my son some chocolate. The food was extremely tasty. It was filling, yet not too heavy. $9.99 for a wrap of this quality is hard to find elsewhere. We stopped in to try the new restaurant and while we waited for our take out the owner gave us a sample of the lentil soup. It was amazing! We got the chicken kebab platter and meat pie. Plenty of food and great flavors. Different region than Charlie's, the pita is much thinner and flavor profile wonderful. Definitely recommend. This was our second visit and somehow it was even better than the first. The owner is so kind and welcoming, and the food is honestly amazing and tastes truly authentic. My husband is half Lebanese and half Iraqi, and he said it was as good as his mom's cooking ... which I don't think I've ever heard him say before . The food is absolutely tasty! They give you lentil soup with your meal; taste it. It's delicious and the portions are good. We ordered the beef kebab and beef shawarma plates with grape leaves, tzatziki, and hummus. Everything is fresh and well made! Beef kabob is köfte style, just fyi. So, today myself and a couple of friends went to the new Yumma Mediterranean Grill in Wake Forest. Had a bowl of lentil soup, a chicken schwarma wrap and brought an order of stuffed grape leaves and 2 pieces of pistachio baklava home. On a scale of 1 to 10, everything we had was at least a 12. Went for the first time to try it out. It had opened the previous week. We love Middle Eastern food and were not disappointed. The food and service were great! The prices are very fair. Very happy to have a new twist on Meditterenean fare in Wake Forest. The spice profile is delicious, the use of sumac is a new thing for me and I liked that. Falafel made from scratch, the lentil soup of course is a delicious surprise, and while I have yet to try the meat pie I ordered (I got too much for lunch and brought it home) I look forward to trying it out as a new-to-me food. Folks are friendly, the place is clean, and they also sell regional tasty treats in a tiny shopping zone. Definitely will be back. read more
