My husband and I were insulted to our faces on Valentines Day when we asked to be moved to another table, not next to the walkway and bus station. The restaurant was not even 1/2 full yet and we were told that the tables could NOT be changed. The hostess told us that there was a hierarchy to who got which table and that implied we did not make the cut to get a better table. We have encountered difficult personalities from the management of this restaurant before. It's a shame because they have a lot going for them. read more

Alexander's bills itself as a European cafe and is located in a quiet courtyard of a small office park just off busy Tamiami Trail (us 41). Eight of us scheduled a late lunch (1:30) on a sunny but cold Thursday so we were seated inside instead of the large, inviting patio. The lunch menu sports a wide variety of salads and sandwiches with a strong emphasis on seafood. The menu definitely has a bit of a French bistro twist to it; for example Truffle fries instead of regular fries or a little mixed green salad that you can get instead. Our group tried a bunch of stuff from the grilled Scottish salmon to butternut squash ravioli to grilled chicken and Brie sandwich to the duck salad and more-the menu offers something for everyone. I had the crab cakes sliders with the yummy truffle fries and it was a very tasty choice, I was pleased with it although it is more like a crab salad (soft and meaty) than a crab cake. While the food was definitely 4 stars, the service did not measure up for me. Perhaps it was because we came in so late, we'll after most of the lunch crowd was long gone or maybe because of the size of the group, or maybe they were short-handed. In any case, the food took much longer than I expected, water and tea glasses went unfilled until we tracked someone down, and it seemed we were forgotten even though we were one of the very few tables left. Enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at Alexander's last night. It's old school fine dining done right. I'm sure you've noticed that there aren't many reviews and honestly I believe that is because this restaurant has been around a while and so has their loyal clientele... who are if an age that isn't accustomed to leaving Online reviews. Our experience was this: we made reservations and although I remember asking for an outside table (their patio is beautiful) and our reservations were not that late (6:30) still the hostesses weren't able to accommodate our preferred location and in fact sat us at one of the worst tables in the house. We weren't off to a great start... but determined to enjoy our holiday evening we forged ahead and I'm glad we did. Mia was our server and I have to say she really made the evening enjoyable for us. She gave us a history of the restaurant and was very personable in her service both for us and the surrounding tables she was serving. The food came out promptly... the menu had many attractive selections. It was hot, tasty and the portions generous. For example I had the duck and usually it would be either a breast it the leg confit... but here an entire half of duck was served. The wine menu was good and we were able to order a favorite bottle of ours and regular dessert menu was also extensive... but the Apple cake served as a special really made it feel like Christmas. My mother and I visited Alexander's for her birthday. The restaurant has tables outside with red umbrellas and pretty lights. We sat inside at the window which was perfect for us. John, our server, was very friendly and knowledgeable. My mom ordered the lobster bisque and the squash ravioli. She loved them both. Said she will be back soon to have the lobster bisque for lunch. I ordered the roasted beet and goat cheese salad and mushroom ravioli. The salad was a perfect start to my meal. It was large enough we could have split it. My mushroom ravioli had a delicious cream sauce and was the perfect temperature. John then brought a surprise birthday dessert of chocolate mousse. So wonderful and a perfect end to our meal. We had dinner on Saturday night and had a wonderful experience. I had the black grouper and my lovely wife had the portabella mushroom. We brought our own wine since the wine list is good but thin. Corkage fee was very reasonable at $20. The outdoor seating area was very lovely, tables spaced out all with a heat lamp and blanket since it was cool. Here we are . . back at this lovely restaurant. Couldn't resist. Great service both visits . . Marco last week, David this week. Passing over the Early Dining menu, we opted for a taste of the regular menu. Hubby ordered the Seafood Risotto with came out HOT and cooked perfectly with shrimps, a nice chunk of lobster and scallops. He usually has difficulty finishing anything pasta/risotto as these are heavy, filling & usually in large portions. Alexander's gives nicely sized portions & the protein was also perfect. Very little left on his plate! I ordered Chicken Milanese with a choice of pasta alfredo or salad as a topping. OH YUM! Choosing the salad was genius on my part but next time I'll order the alfredo pasta choice just because. This dinner also came out very hot, making me think that back in the kitchen nothing sits on a plate and awaiting a final anything. All is assembled hot and trotted out to the customers. I give her service a 5 star rating. The garden setting speaks for itself. Always enjoyed everything about this place. Tonight however, everything changed. Got there a few minutes early. Was finally seated. No menus so one member of our party had to walk back to the hostess and ask for them.. ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers FINALLY came but were given to the wrong table. That table accepts them saying that they were probably a gift from Monika. They were wrong but we had to wait another 20 minutes for ours. Don't order their "special" unless you are prepared to pay over double what any other item on the Menü is! When we were there recently, I ordered their steak special for the night and when I received the bill, it was $120 for just the steak! All the Menü items were in the $40 - $60 range and I expected their "special" to be at least somewhere in that neighborhood. They should be required to disclose the price of something when it deviates that much from what is expected... Food is just okay, atmosphere is nice, but BE CAREFUL and ask about price before ordering or they'll scam you! read more

My wife and I stopped at Alexander's for lunch today. The patio seating was filled but we managed to get a window table without a reservation. We had a Caesar Salad, best I've ever had, grilled octopus salad with a wonderful dressing and mussels in white wine. We've been here before and love the ambience and the food and service. We are locals and have been to this restaurant several times before. I have always enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately last week when we visited we were extremely disappointed. We were very excited to take some out of town guest to visit this restaurant. We had bragged about how good the food was. When we arrived the chef's wife, Mrs. Bernard greeted us as we set on the outside bench. We did not interrupt her or the staff that was setting up the outside patio. We waited very patiently as we had arrived about 10 minutes early. Mrs. Bernard did not greet us in a friendly manner, she went on to tell us they were still working to sit the courtyard up. We could plainly see that and did not interrupt them. We waited very patiently. Next, several people began checking in inside and I got up went in to the front podium. I checked in in a very professional manner and greeted Mrs. Bernard with a smile. Mrs. Bernard said I didn't have a reservation until I showed her a text I had received. After a few minutes Mrs. Bernard proceeded to take me out in the courtyard in front of everyone and tell me since my party was 3 people she would have to sit me at a table for 3. I could not sit at any of the 4 top tables. I looked around the courtyard and there was not a table for 3. She said each table needs to be turned over twice in the night. This made me feel very unwelcome and that I was interrupting their revenue by being there. I said please just seat me where you want us to sit. By this time I just wanted to sit down somewhere, anywhere. I was totally ready to leave and should have. She proceeded to tell me she would have to figure out where to put us. I said once again, please seat me where ever you want us to sit. She gave me a choice of two seats in a very unfriendly tone. The chef is awesome and our waiter was very good. However the Chef's wife Mrs. Bernard needs to learn Customer Service skills big time. I will never go back to this restaurant. This is a very expensive restaurant and I don't mind paying for quality of food and service. If you don't mind being talked down to this is the place to go. Otherwise, save your money. There are many other restaurants that have first class service, chef and waiters. I will never return. They lost a very good customer and I will let all my friends know what I encountered. Word of mouth is detrimental to any business. I know I owned a very successful business for many years. read more

Underwhelmed. First off, open table automatically seats you inside. No mention of that and apparently impossible to change, even though it looked as if there were plenty of open outdoor tables. Indoor decor was lackluster, seated looking at four distantly spaced still-life paintings of spices. Lobster bisque was hearty and spicy. Oysters from east and west came without indication of which were east and which were west. Seafood risotto had a rich sauce, but was a diminutive portion for $38 bucks. Escargot was rubbery. Other diners had chicken, veal tenderloin. Overall, the sauces were heavy and flavors plain and uninspired. So many places offer a better value. Better flavor. And better service. The time between drink orders and food orders and timing of the meal left us wondering what was going on. Not a repeat for me. read more

This has been my favorite restaurant for over a year now. We have always been there for dinner. A few days ago we received an email from Alexander's stating that they are featuring special Morel mushrooms from Oregon. My husband and I were thrilled since we used to live in Oregon. We also learned all dinner reservations have been fully booked for the next two weeks. So, we decided to go there for lunch today. First thing we noticed is there was no mentioning of the mushroom on the menu. The waiter said they already sold out. We hardly finished our food in the plates because there were at least 3 flies circulating around our table (indoors), one fly accidentally drowned in my glass of water. We also noticed the receptionist didn't wear a mask the whole time we were there despite a big sign saying all customers must wear masks. We will not go back for lunch again! read more

It got worse from there. 4 entrees were served, the other 2 were served 10-15 minutes later. Steak ordered medium rare. Not a hint of pink. medium to well done. 2 orders of risotto. He was excellent in his knowledge of the menu and everything was on time. He was very friendly and had a great conversation with us. Alexander's has quite a following, and I was looking forward to lunch there. The outdoor setting is lovely with lots of very nice landscaping. The food is another story. For one thing, I found it hard to even find anything on the menu that appealed to me. There were many very odd combinations, all probably meant to sound super healthy. I finally settled on a peanut Thai salad, adding salmon as the protein. The green salad was served warm, sort of semi-cooked - a lettuce salad! and I barely found three peanuts in the whole meal. The salmon was overcooked as well. No, I did not send it back, because I really believe the chef thinks cooking green lettuce is a great modern idea. But I will never go back. read more

Amazing outdoor garden with plenty of space between tables and ample heaters. Do not be deterred by the random location - you are secluded in the back among flowering trees. My whole family was raving about the food, especially the sea bass and snapper. And they eat out a lot in downtown naples - they said the food was some of the best they've had in the entire area. First time dining at Alexander's. We can't believe that we haven't ever been here! Lots of accolades about the owner/chef and his restaurant. It's kind of tucked away in a court yard on US 41. You may not even see it when driving by. Reservations ( and you'll need them) tonight we're at 7:15 but we had to wait a few minutes as the dining room was very busy as was the outside courtyard. There's lots of dining outside here probably more than inside. Interestingly people just weren't leaving on this warm April evening. We now can see why! This place is really special. From the moment that we were seated we were greeted by the highly trained staff. The truly special part of our evening was our server John. He was so friendly and personable, welcoming us like we were old friends to his private restaurant. His knowledge about every item on the menu showed his true passion for Alexander's. He's a veteran of over 5 years! After his specific description of the menu we decided on one of the specials of sautéed fresh morels and local tomatoes with burrata for openers. We then progressed to another special of the day, risotto with shrimp topped with a split grilled Maine lobster tail and another menu favorite, chicken Milanese. Both were perfectly prepared. We finished the evening with two homemade desserts of vanilla passion fruit crepes and triple berry pie. Alexander's has a very complete menu with a lot of very interesting choices and four to five nightly specials. Seriously we could have had almost anything on the menu and been satisfied! Dinner is an event here so don't plan on getting in and out quickly. We spent a lovely two and a half hours here but it seemed like the time just flew by. We will return soon!
