My family's been going to Alfa Auto Repair for probably the past decade now, and the loyalty is very warranted -- they're diligent, honest, and reasonable with the pricing. They have a handful of mechanics, so they're very efficient with their business. Every person who has worked on my car has been kind and personable, which makes the process of dealing with car troubles a lot less stressful. The business is situated in the middle of an alleyway where there are a handful of other auto work establishments, but the sign is quite clear. Beware that it is a pretty cramped space, but any of their staff is willing to park your car for you in you have trouble navigating. My car was totaled and I'm getting back into older used cars while I wait for the car I want (crazy times in the Plug In Hybrid market). I've been coming back here from a 4 year hiatus and love that they still all remember me and ask how's that Accord doing?? They've been helping me on my new used cars and boy.. how my perspective has changed in 4 years. I really appreciate how Chu An is so genuine and just wants to help people with their cars. His prices are still from 2012. I've gotten plenty of work done and he still doesn't want anymore from me so I end up tipping his staff and they are so appreciative. His work quality has gone uphill with some of his new mechanics. He no long carries cheap brake pads and only installs dealer pads to ensure they are good. He has plenty of Mobil 1 synthetic oil in stock which is the new norm. Here's the gist of things: My step dad brought in the family car for a brake job. Basically the mechanic did not close the brake bleed valves and sent my step dad off with it that way. I come home to hear him complain about the situation, and I checked each wheel to see them still leaking. So I ended up bleeding the brakes myself and correcting their error. No mechanic should send a vehicle on the road without first checking and making sure everything is properly closed and tightened up. read more

Beware! They speak predominantly Vietnamese and have only 2 English-speaking mechanics! I recommend calling first for a quote, they tend to offer a more competitive price if you sound like you're shopping around. ...Well, it probably helps if you speak Vietnamese to get the ol' You're-Asian-Too-discount. And since I don't, my parents do it for me and berate them with "But we don't have that much money" until they give us a pity discount (although probably more like please-stop-talking-at-me-discount). As for prices, off the top of my head, for a large sedan, new timing belt + water pump = ~$350, new brake pads + turn rotors = $210. On an SUV, new upper radiator hose + fluid = $30, valve cover gaskets = $220. Oh, and this place is pretty damned dirrrtay. Chu "An" let one of his sincere charming guys that doesn't smoke change my transmission oil, the mechanic recommend me to change the brakes because it was completely worn, showed me the difference between a new and old, recommend me not to do tire rotate because my front was better than the back, he also said that the back will need new tires soon, he also change the cabin air filter and another young mechanic change ac filter that I brought. He even added air to my tires without me asking him, he also clean/polish my wheel cover, he went the extra mile. The mechanic was genuine and easy to talk to, very respectful. I bought a lemon as a car. Like it looked really pretty but within 3 years of ownership the alternator has SNAPPED, radiator blown, brakes gave out, struts gave out, serpentine belt snapped, and a blown compressor. If i had gone to anywhere else i would have probably spent THOUSANDS in repairs. I know what you're thinking, get a new car right? Wrong, i stuck it out and went to Alfa and through everything i've spent maybe only 2k on all of those repairs and my car runs better than most of my friend's cars despite it being made in 2000. I came in for the headlamps and headlight bulbs replacement, they DID IT in LESS THAN 45 minutes but ..... when the night came, the lights are ALL OUT OF PLACE!!! Brought the car back the next day for adjustment and they SPEND MORE THAN 30 minutes trying to figure out what's going on! Told me they CANNOT FIX it so I WAS MAD, ask for a refund and luckily, they ACCEPT! Now I'm stuck with an out-of-place headlight, takes time to find another auto repair store!!!! They don't know anything! I have a pretty old car... 1997 Lexus. Runs pretty well for an old car, except once in awhile it does get weird. My check engine light was on & the night before, my car wouldn't start AT ALL!!! I had my bf & a friend look at it-- & they tell me the distributor cap is cracked. Don't know what that means, but I wrote down the notes. (Of course I believe them since they spent 5 years or so fixing jet engines in the Marines-- I'm sure they can look at something as simple as a car) I took the car here (my dad's recommendation) & they said it was A-OK. When a car doesn't start, stop suddenly at the ramp to the freeway and just makes weird noises... it is NOT ok. So, I ask, "What's the check engine light doing on then?" he tells me, "Oh, the check engine light is just broken." I thought if it wasn't broken before it went on. So, I tell him the guys said the distributor cap might be broken. & the guy at this place tells me, "This car is old. It has no distributor cap." What!? "& he repeats himself "don't worry about the distributor cap, the car doesn't have one." & he tells me, "Hey! Thanks for coming in! How about a free oil change?" Free oil change? I'm good with that... I was looking for my car to be fixed. Well, in all fairness, they did give me a diagnosis and said "I think something in the back is broken." So, I took my car down to a place in Irvine by me... And they said the EXACT same thing my boyfriend & friend did. and YES, there IS a distributor cap! and YES, that's exactly what's wrong with it! Great establishment. They've always been very helpful every time I've gone and have never unnecessarily charged me. In fact, I went simply because I couldn't unscrew my oil filter housing and they installed a new oil filter. I forgot I had an OEM filter I had in my trunk so they just took that one and charged me $5 for the labor. read more

This is a great service. I came in to check out a charging problem with my battery. Chu An quickly diagnosed that the alternator is not giving enough voltage. Offer to replace the alternator for $150 (part+labor). The price is cheaper than other repair shops. As an extra service, they helped fixed some cosmetic damages in my car free of charge. read more

A few years ago I went and they fixed the car axl .. I don't remember the price but I do remember they took my car in last minute because I had a baby.. Today I took my kia because the belt was squeaking.. I called kia dealership first and they said its be $200 minimum.. These guys said sorry we don't fix kias but we can look at it for free.. They tightened belt, squeaking gone so far.. Yeah, FREE.. The owner was very quiet about it not trying to get attention over it.. This area is predominantly vietnamese so obviously about everyone working here is vietnamese but they have workers here that speak English well also. Surprisingly I was the only asian customer when I came in. Everyone else was Caucasian or non asian lol. a pretty small auto shop but they get the job done at a good price and good rate. Workers here are nice and helpful. You're here to get your car fixed not eat, so don't expect such a nice auto shop. It's an auto shop and it gets the job done. When I went to get my car fixed they were open on a rainy Sunday working on my car! Such hard dedicated workers! Will definitely be back to get my car serviced if I need to! Awesome place and great personal service!!! They fixed my Honda Pilot 2005 for a leaking at the rack's boot (steering wheel) and the axle boot. Honestly, replaced a new axle of course and seal the rack's boot instead of replacement the rack pinion as general mechanic suggested that saved my time and a lot of $$$ for doing it. I am impressive for the professional service to fix the right thing for a very good price!!!. These guys here are truly showed through their passion and craftsmanship. They work by their heart and enthusiasm that make me feel very comfortable about the job. No hassle!
