I wouldn't recommend these guys. On the surface they act friendly and trustworthy but they can do some shady stuff with smogging and take advantage of older people who don't understand. They recently somehow passed my mom's car when all the other shops couldn't do so. Well, they were able to remove the check engine light and pass the car but when my parents came home with the car the light started to come back on. Normally we would assume the car is old and parts needed to be fix. But when a shop like Alex wants to charge more than $50 smog because they say it needs some repair to pass then it's assumed they fixed the issue with needed parts to pass. Nope, they didn't do anything. How do I know because I started to investigate and found out the issue. It was old emission hoses that were brittle and needed to be replaced. Also changing out to a new OEM gas cap helped with extending the check engine light from coming back. So please do yourself a favor and find a trustworthy shop. Alex if you're reading this please be more honest with what you're doing with your customers. read more

I was recommended this shop by a friend. I took my truck in for an oil change at Xpress oil in Westminter. Don't know what they did but my truck was leaking oil a few days after. I took my truck to Alex Auto. He replaced the ring, the filter, and added oils to my truck and charged me $25. Wow. 3 weeks after.. I need my breaks done. I called the dealership and they wanted 600+ for front and back breaks. I brought it to Alex and they uses the original break parts. Not after market for 1/2 the price. I've been coming here for about five years now for my cars oil changes. Always quick and hassle free. I only have one other location as a price reference but Alex's was and still is cheaper. Only issue I've had - and it might have been miscommunication - I asked for premium oil once for my oil change and I was told my car was fine with regular. No harm no foul I guess but other than that I've never had any issues with "surprise fixes" or them "finding something wrong" with my car. read more

After getting quotes that were all over the place ($950-$1500), I decided to give Alex Auto Repair a try based on great reviews and proximity to my home. I pretty much knew I needed to replace my AC Compressor completely plus any additional things regarding this service. Phuong was the one that helped me initially on the phone and ultimately for my service. He was fast, honest (beat the price of any quote I got), ordered the part right away and I was able to get everything fixed in 24 hours. At the end, for $850, I received a brand new AC Compressor, brand new air filter, and Phuong even replaced the belt! All this including labor and taxes and all with a smile. My mom is the ultimate bargain shopper. She gets all of her cars serviced here. She took my car here a year ago and I had a tune up along with new tires, brakes, engine fuel, etc. All of under $400! I highly recommend this auto repair shop! UPDATE: I got my car's front struts replaced yesterday by Phuong! It was something he said I can replace later if I want. He said he didn't want to take so much money at once when I first went to Alex auto. When I went in the morning, I was greeted and remembered by where I am from and what I came in for last time by one of the people working there (I'm guessing it's the manager?). What amazed me was the speed Phuong replaced the struts. Within a hour, it was done! With test run and everything. I was impressed. My car runs so much smoother now. Go there for the quality, speed and friendliness. I will keep going back to them as long as I'm in the area! 6/29/14: I got my car repaired at Alex and the price was very reasonable. You can double check the prices given by them on repair pal and compare it to national average. It's probably the best price you'll get around here. Phuong is the mechanic that helped me out and is a very nice guy. He will let you know what he recommends getting fixed and quickly finds out if there really is something wrong with your car. I've paid a couple hundreds less just by going to this place compared to the first auto shop I brought my car to. I could definitely feel the difference driving my used car after the repair. I'll be going back to them again in the future. -- The mechanics are really helpful there. My car didn't pass the smog check and a friend recommended me to go here for a check up. They told me that there was no reason for the smog check to fail my car after reading the report and helped me find a smog check station that they trusted. So big thanks to them and the people at the 2nd smog check. The service was quite fast, compared to the my car's manual saying that a normal maintenance check would be 15-20mins. They did it under 10mins, which kind of scares me. When they drive your car onto the lift, your transmission stick, door handles, and steering wheel will be sticky from their hands. I've read some other reviews and they had gotten a cheaper pricing on their oil changes. I ONLY got an oil change. That set me back $50! I was told $40 before even driving my car onto their parking lot. Other reviews had gotten it a lot cheaper than I had. Another sketchy thing was that my older sister was told to pay less than $40... I did end up paying $40 instead because I confronted the owner that he was saying it would be $40 before I was even drove onto the property. read more

Even though there were a few people ahead of me, I was still helped about 20 minutes after I arrived (with no appointment on a Saturday morning). They spent all of one minute with my car and determined it needed new spark plugs and a coil. He get the parts from a Hyundai dealer and finished with my car in about an hour and a half. I'm giving this place 5-stars because the price is just too good! I had 2 balled rear tires and I needed to switch them out with the brand new tires I just bought. They mounted the tires (making sure to take out my tire pressure sensors so it doesn't get damaged), balanced the tires, rotated my tires and even gave me 2 new lug nuts bc I was missing some! My best friend Jaemes V is usually the only one to work on my abused car, but when it came to a problem that had to be handled in an auto shop, he would only recommend the best for my car's needs. We brought it in on a Saturday morning of last weekend (Labor day weekend). The mechanic said he'd work on it & that I should come pick it up no later than 4pm that same day. When I came back to pick it up, he informed us of the problem with my car & how he fixed it. A bolt on the alternator/engine was completely loose and its thread was completely chewed out because of the loose bolt constantly jamming back in and out of it, which was responsible for the gnarly rattling noise every time I'd take my car out for the past week. So he had to take everything out, re-drill a new thread and screw the bolt back in. Not only did he do this, but he checked out everything else under my hood and assured me that everything was working properly, but recommended that I clean the residue build up of the bad oils forming on top of my battery. Even my friend told me that this job would've taken more time/effort than a simple quick fix, but he only charged me 50$ for everything. Wowzer. My friend told me beforehand that this place is not only the best, but the most reasonable with their pricing. I experienced it firsthand. I use to be very happy here until they got this new mechanic I forgot his name but he wear glasses and calls all the shots. I been going here for 18 years but today was the final last time as of 11/4/15 this guy is very rude and didn't fix my car right twice the really nice person I thought was Alex but when I explain how dishonest this guy is and don't take pride in his work he totally took his side. After I been going there for so long this just isn't right I highly recommend anybody that goes there to watch out for this it's unfair.
