Came here for Sunday lunch with a relatively large group. The place was packed but even with that we waited maybe 20 mins which is fine for me. We prepaid while waiting so we could immediately be seated when a table opened up. We paid $17 which I think is a bit pricey but it's because the drink is included, I wish there was an option to opt out and pay maybe $15. That would be much more worth it in my opinion. The selection was great and fresh. I like how they separated the two main serving lines with the pita station in the middle as it helped the line not get too long. Even with all the people in the restaurant I didn't feel like I had to wait to get my food. Most bizarre experience ever. Went for a usual lunch buffet today just like the past 10 or so years and requested for a change of table. The front desk attendant directed to choose any table and take the silverware there. We finally picked an unoccupied isolated spot away from the busy area. Once returning from the soda section, he rudely shouted at me and my guest that "Next time! you need to let me know where decide to sit next time". We found out that we have been removed from our chosen spot. When we pointed his rude behavior out to him, he started to make excuses and then got rude saying you are not welcome in this place. When asked to talk to his manager stated that im my own boss and would not give his name. He even came out of the restaurant to tell us not to come back here again. To make matters worst, once my toddler drop the water glass they didn't even bothered to clean it and just gave me on small towel to put over water. I ended up cleaning it myself. Finally, we asked for tahini sauce to 2 servers and the manager and it took 15 mins to bring that after we were done eating. More over they charged for it and added 18% gratuity even after this type of service. Came to Ali Baba for a work lunch organized by a team member on Friday; I'd never been, but several others in the group had, so it came highly recommended! Love the buffet price point, especially considering how many hot and cold options there were. I don't tend to seek out Mediterranean cuisine on my own, but I really enjoyed my first experience here. I tried to get a little bit of everything on my plate, but the stand-outs had to be the spanakopita, the chicken kabob, the roasted cauliflower, and the garlic paste they had at the salad bar. The spanakopita was flavorful and the thin pastry surrounding it perfectly flaky. The chicken kabob was incredibly juicy and seasoned very well. Roasted cauliflower had a great crunch, was piping hot, and also well seasoned. The hummus I had with my zataar bread was good, but the garlic paste you could get at the salad bar was delicious, with a nice kick to boot! Other things I tried: kofta, which was also flavored well, and falafel, which had a nice crunch but was kind of bland. Saffron rice went well with many of the hot bar offerings, and the rosemary potatoes were solid but a little too salty - also had cilantro, which isn't my thing, so I only got a couple pieces of it. I'd love to see more authentic drink options and some more desserts here - the rice pudding I sampled at the end of my meal was very good, and other days they might have a rotation of different desserts, but apart from fresh fruit the pudding was the only thing I saw today. Lunch buffet is CRAZY busy! The line goes out the door... And depending on how hungry you are, it may or may not be worth the wait. My friend and I went on a Wednesday for lunch around noon. For a table of two, we waited about 10-15 minutes. It got a whole lot busier after we sat down though- so maybe go before noon if you don't want to wait too long. They have a nice variety of foods and everything is always really fresh! I love, love, love their parmesan potatoes- they're my favorite thing to eat there. They also have a lot of vegetarian options which I'm thankful for because some buffets only have a few options for vegetarians. However, I gotta say, I'm not a fan of their falafels... they're a little different than the ones I've had. The ones here have sesame seeds (?) and are quite hard and dry on the inside. Dining Facts: I dined at this location at about 1230 on a Sunday. The wait time was about 10 minutes.. which was faster than expected. I was seat at a booth near the restroom path which drove me nuts .... the restaurant was packed- the crowd was mostly large Indian families. The restaurant was clean for the most part the table were clear at rapid speed . You pay as you walk into the door and then your added to the waiting list. The cashier was somewhat friendly ‍. The food was just okay ... the flavors weren't bad but the weren't that great either. The issue was with such large families dining the hot bar was low on meat often.... just as quick as they brought the food out the larger families stacked their plates leaving the bar empty. My husband comes for lunch once a week and took me for dinner tonight. He says the lunch rush is crazy and there's usually a wait but at dinner time it's a quiet more intimate space. I highly recommend coming at night if you can't make it in for lunch. Don't wait until you're free at lunch, come for dinner NOW! I say that because tonight's undisputed highlight was the saffron chicken. So much saffron was in it you had a few strands per forkful. The sauce is creamy with a deep meaty stock base and the dish was amazing over saffron rice. Both our side dishes (fried cauliflower and falafel) came with tziki sauce and there was lots of pita to share. This place easily beat out my previous fav- Cafe Izmir. Also it's not apples to apples but I think this restaurant is miles ahead of the Turkish places around the neighborhood. Service is also very friendly. We hadn't been here in a while, but I'm so glad we came back. While we were hoping for a buffet, I suppose those are only available at lunch. Still, the menu items were delicious. I had the Saffron Chicken and my boyfriend had some Kafta kabobs. Great flavor, reasonable prices, and our waiter was so nice. Just tried Ali Baba Mediterranean and what a great experience! They have a wide variety of food to choose from and everything was delicious! The thing that made it especially memorable and will definitely bring me back was the friendly staff. My colleague and I caught a late lunch there and brought our laptops with us to get some work done. We arrived at 2p and left at 4p. Little did we know, they close from 2:30-5p, but didn't find this out until we were leaving and saw that we were the only ones in the place. .we were absolutely amazed that they never approached us about leaving nor made us feel like a bother. Lunch Buffet Visit - Friday, Jan 29, 2021 RE: (Server 2002/Host 2 C) Upon arriving at Ali Baba, Richardson @ 11:30am on Friday, Jan 29, my friend, a 1st time visitor, and I were greeted by a young gentleman (Server 2002/Host 2C). We paid for our buffet lunch and then were seated at a booth. We weren't greeted by staff nor provided instructions as to how to serve ourselves at the buffet during the pandemic, but quickly realized it was as simple as wearing a mask and adding gloves in order to safely use the serving utensils while social distancing. There was an abundance of all food Mediterranean, which was displayed wonderfully and tasted delicious as always. My friend, who makes Mediterranean food homemade was impressed and remarked about how amazing everything was on her plate. We both decided we'd like a lunchtime cocktail, so I asked a staff member who we should inquire with... he directed me to (Server 2002/Host 2C). I told (Server 2002/Host 2C) we would like (2) tall Tito's vodka w/soda and a lime. We waited for 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive. When (Server 2002/Host 2C) brought the drinks, he put the drinks down and promptly walked away. We knew at 1st glance the drinks had not been made properly. The drinks were made of Tito's vodka, lime juice only and served with a lime wedge. We tried our best not to send back the drinks by getting cups from the beverage station, and pouring soda in them to be added to the drinks. But there was no counteracting the excessive bitter lime taste. I kindly went to tell (Server 2002/Host 2 C) the drinks were not made as requested. He came back to our table, took the cups away muttering how he'd used A LOT of Tito's and claiming we didn't tell him we wanted soda in the drinks. As we sat shaking our heads and waiting another nearly 20 minutes, (Server 2002/Host 2 C) came back with the drinks we originally requested and "slammed" the drinks on the table, again promptly walking away without inquiring if the drinks were served as requested. The drinks were fine, but it was apparent (Server 2002/Host 2 C) was not. As we finished our drinks, a different staff member dropped a check reflecting $32.48 for (2) TITOS $PREMIUM DOUBLE$ @ $15.00 each + tax. For those who drink alcohol, it's well known that asking for a tall drink is the opposite of asking for a double. Instead of asking for twice the alcohol, ordering a drink tall is asking for twice the mixer. In this case, the mixer was soda. As we exited Ali Baba, I told my friend I'd talk with (Server 2002/Host 2 C) about the check amount. When I went to tell him the check amount was incorrect because we had requested tall drinks, not double drinks, he claimed he was charging for doubles because he used double the amount of Tito's when pouring the drinks. I asked to speak with a manager. He claimed he was the manager, as well as the owner (but obviously not a bartender). I asked him why he would treat customers the way he was treating me if he actually was the manager and owner; and then told him I was unwilling to pay the disproportionate bill. I walked out of the restaurant only for (Server 2002/Host 2 C) to follow after me with phone in hand telling me he was calling the police. It was obviously unnecessary to accelerate the matter to such a degree, so I went back into the restaurant willingly and paid a decreased check reflecting $23.82 for (2) TITOS 2 $ROCKS$ @ $11.00 each + tax while at the same time being told by (Server 2002/Host 2 C) never to return to Ali Baba again. WOW. I've never been treated so disrespectfully at a restaurant establishment, nor any establishment for that matter. I first came here with my coworkers for lunch. I am obsessed and usually very picky with my Mediterranean food, and especially with being able to eat a variety of things (pita, hummus, lamb and fattoush are a must) at once, so I love the buffet! All that you want there at once, and it actually tastes good! I especially love their pita bread with the olive oil and extra fixins (called the zatar I believe?). One of my coworkers is vegetarian, and usually doesn't eat much when we all go out, but she loved it and scarfed down as many of the veggie options that she could. The hummus was great, gyro meat was excellent, all of the food was freshly made and replenished fast! I also went back one evening (a large group of friends surprised me for my birthday) and was surprised by the hospitality of the staff. We were there well near closing time, so I expected for them to rush us out, but they were still very polite and helpful in taking our orders getting our checks and bringing out extra plates and silverware for the birthday cake (which I'm sure we cut right at closing time). I loved how at home they made us feel, and they were able to accommodate us with the large family table they had. So if you're looking to go for a group dinner, this is definitely a great spot. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the lamb and hummus appetizer. The lamb was a bit too gamey to my taste, but my fiancé loved it (in fact, he ate the whole thing lol) so it may just be me! Dude...like dude.... freaking amazing buffet.. the best Mediterranean place in Dallas I've been to so far. They have this spinach thing rolled in like pastry dough OMMMGGGGG LOVE!! I want to drive there right now just to have some but I can't bc I'm typing this and I'm at work. :( Also their gyro meat is thinly sliced which for me I love thicker meat () but this thin version is actually doable and love-able. WOW! This mediterranean joint has exceeded my expectation and MORE! I couldnt be more impressed with everything. I have been to almost all of the mediterranean restaurants in the Richardson area (trust me theres a lot!) and this IS THE BEST. I've always passed by the restaurant but have never thought twice about trying it out. My sister and I went for a lunch buffet on a Thursday around 1pm and it was PACKED. We waited for about 20 minutes for a table and it was all worth it. The lunch buffet had a great variety of different mediterranean favorites and the quality of each dish was five stars. Each dish was soooooo fresh and I honestly cant wait to go back. The buffet option was $12.99 which makes everything THAT much better. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Overall: I STRONGLY recommend anyone who is a huge fan of an amazing mediterranean buffet. I am kind of mad at myself for just now discovering this joint. This is my favorite restaurant in Dallas and really, ever - it goes beyond just serving a meal but it feeds the soul, it can make a bad day feel good, and really leaves you with sense of satisfaction without weighing you down. I am a bit of a "Mediterranean" food/buffet junkie and have tried just about every Mediterranean buffet in the DFW metroplex - this one exceeds them all, by far, no contest. Ali Babas has been serving the same food in Dallas for almost 20 years; they are family operated and use authentic family recipes from Lebanon - it's a rare thing to see a business not alter its menu and stand the test of time for so long. Heres why I love the place: (Note: this is for the daily lunch buffet specifically, but many of these themes would apply to dinner/dining/menu service as well) Food: Everything is made fresh daily and not per-packaged/canned- you will notice this immediately. The owner is adamant that he only serve items that he would eat himself or feed his family - they do not cut corners. The produce is all fresh and new shipments come in several times a week - produce is chopped by hand, all dips are made in-house fresh each day, nothing is canned - this takes extra time and love. Even on the buffet, the food is a both a visual and culinary feast; it is consistent: wonderfully fresh, beautifully presented, and salads are perfectly dressed and seasonings are flavorful and balanced. Quality: The owner takes great pride in his ingredients, and honestly this is one of the reasons why this place stands above the rest. He has gone to great strides to make sure that his meats are sourced of high quality (fresh, never frozen, non-hormonal chicken), lamb from California, organic ground beef, premium tahini and olive oil. He has taken great care to import much of this to ensure you are experiencing getting the world's best ingredients (san marzano tomatoes, cheeses, olives, oil, spices all come from various countries of origin in Europe rather than just going the cheap route and going domestic - you can taste the difference. Everything is well labelled as well with the item name, description, and dietary information. Most items on the buffet are staples and some rotate depending on the day of the week. I will spare the descriptions & photos for another review, but all is excellent. Price: While some people may think that 12.99 is expensive for a weekday lunch, let me remind you that you get all you can eat, a wide variety of items, & includes a drink. On top of that, this is high quality food, most of the items are the exact same that you would get off the dinner menu just in an endless/self serve environment. On top of that you cant get a lunch these days for less than 12-15$ at most current concepts. Really this place is a great value at the price! Speed: This can be a quick lunch if needed, faster than most "fast casual" places even. You pay up front before you start the buffet, and then its up to you to get your food, drinks, and leave when you have to. There can be a line right at noon but the wait is still minimal depending on party size (10-15 minutes max). Its nice to not have to wait on a waiter or check to leave. They also offer takeout, weight by the pound if youre in a BIG rush. Cleanness/freshness: Given the volume and rush at lunch this place remains remarkably clean and attractive. The staff are meticulous about refilling items and turning dishes over quickly, they will manicure and clean up the items/displays as well - the food is always fresh and attractively presented so - you never get the "bottom of the barrel" experience. The restaurant itself is spotless, it gets a "full" cleaning twice a day before the lunch service and dinner services. Staff/Management: Honestly this might be what has pushed it over the top for me. Ali Babas is family operated and all customers get a greeting and thank you when then come and go - I honestly feel that they appreciate my business and patronage in the truest sense. The staff are hard-working, friendly and polite, and always attentive to bus plates and clean your area - without being rushy/pushy. I have never been in a restaurant where everyone was so friendly, attentive, and genuine. I could go on, but you get the idea. Ali Baba's is a gift to DFW, they have almost identical restaurant operations in Irving and Fort Worth under the name "Terra Mediterranean" if you need something closer. Ali Baba is the best Mediterranean lunch buffet I've tried in Dallas. I've been many times and it always hits the spot. The deep-fried cauliflower is genius and something I've never seen anywhere else. Overall, I find the variety and quality of the buffet to be better than Fadi's, Afrah's, Kasra, and Sahara. It's also the most expensive too; $14 which includes a drink. That's not bad if you were planning to order a drink anyway, but I usually get water so I'd rather it be a couple bucks cheaper. Their non-buffet dinner offerings are also excellent. I ordered their lamb chops for dinner last week and they were cooked as I requested and came with delicious grilled veggies as well as rice and pita bread. It was enough food that I got two meals out of it so for $20, I'd say it's a steal! Tip: Make a reservation for lunch if you have a big group. read more

One word: FANTASTIC! Buffet may be a little expensive, but the food was great. They have a huge salad bar, a variety of meats available, fresh pita and some sort of spinach wrap. The roasted cauliflower is so flavorful and all the food is constantly being replenished. Leave room (though that will be hard) for dessert. It's not out and you have to request it, but the baklava is probably the best I have ever had, and I have found some truly delicious baklava in Los Angeles. It was warm and fresh. However, we went on MLK Day and it was crowded! Be prepared for a 15 minute wait surrounded by lots of bodies during a busy day of the week. Just had lunch here for the first time. Been dying to come here, but had no one to go with. My co-workers and I were in this area and everyone was in. We came here at around noon and had to wait in line for about 20 minutes. You have to pay first, then they seat you. Their buffet is MASSIVE. Plenty of duplicated food items so they never really run out of food. Plus the food trays were constantly replenished and surrounding area tidied up. Their fried cauliflower was slightly salted, which made it taste oh so yummy. Hummus was fresh and plentiful. Salads were also fresh. So many to choose from. Their basmati rice was additive. What I really liked was the falafel. It was super crispy and the inside was soft. Making me salivate as I'm reminiscing about the flavor. I didn't taste any of their meats because of dietary preference. However, they too were in abundance and looked mighty tasty. Almost tasty enough to get me to eat meat again.
