Oh yeah!!! Very nice atmosphere, and eve though they have buffet staff is tentative. Excellent food for a buffet. Lamb slivers are so tasty and tender, falafel is excellent and the babagenous is really yummy. Pita bread is good but the garlic seasoned bread and the spinach cheese roll are way better. I ordered delivery for some lamp chops because I've heard so many amazing things about this restaurants from friends. Unfortunately I waited an hour and a half (20 mins outside in this heat and 9 months pregnant looking for the driver) for some something that was supposed to be 25 mins and ended up not receiving my order. I called the restaurant and the girl I spoke with to inquire about my order was very disrespectful so I ended up canceling my order. Called Grubhub and they also didn't know what was going on so the refunded my order. Very disappointed because I'm 9 months pregnant and was actually looking forward to the food. The food is always fresh, the environment is very nice. I enjoy their lunch and weekend buffet. Their cream of mushroom is good too. I'm a fan of their thick rice pudding made with rosewater, topped with pistachios. Drinks included in the price... best Mediterranean buffet I've ever been to, hands-down. The only down-side is the cups are plastic and have some kind of soap/mineral stain build-up and are sometimes wet from the dishwasher. They're nice cups but they don't age well. I drive pass this joint countless times and finally have the chance to try it. For lunch buffet, you pay when you first walk in which is convenient for when you leave. I love their classy interior. The staff is very friendly and welcoming as well. We came around 1:30 pm, luckily we didn't have to wait and got seated right away. If you come around 11 or 12, expect the wait to be around 15 - 20 mins. I didn't have high hope for this place, just thought it was similar to Afrah, but it was way better! Their food has limited variety, but it's always fresh and hot. The meat and veggies were absolutely delicious and flavorful. Try their gyro, potatoes and saffron chicken. Thank god that the wait at Genghis Grill was 30 minutes, otherwise I would have never opened up the new handy-dandy Android version of Yelp on my phone and discovered this gem of a restaurant. My kids were battling over where they wanted to go (my daughter wanted Twisted Root; my son wanted Thai Corner). We compromised on Genghis Grill. With the wait, my daughter STILL wanted Twisted Root, my son, Zander's House. I pulled rank and found Ali Baba via Yelp. Pros: Outstanding food (the tabbouuleh & baba ghanoush were the best, the falafels amazing & crunchy when hot). Best lamb I've ever tasted too. Cons: A little pricey. We split the appetizer platter that had all the good stuff (although it was light on olives); we had three orders of falafels (not realizing they were the size of sheep's testicles), my son & I split a lamb kabob & my daughter had the kid's meal (gyros & fries). Tab? $48 before tip. If I have to keep paying $2 for a tea, I will slaughter a newborn calf in protest. I don't give out 5 stars lightly. It's one of those things. If you have a scale of 1 to 5 and the highest you ever give out is a 4, then your scale is one star off. You can't reserve the 5 because one thing was out of place. No eating experience will ever be perfect and if you're saving it for a perfect experience, then you're cheating yourself and the people who read your reviews. So here we are. 5 stars. Open Sesame! The Wife was taking a nap and I had just finished working so I went into the bedroom and asked her if she was hungry. "Yeah.. *yawn* I could eat. Where do you want to go?" Me: "I need to take a shower and I'll think about it." I come back and name a couple places but she's not interested. "How about Ali Baba? I've heard good things about it." Her: "On yelp?" Me: "Yeah, the people who reviewed Dimassi's Buffet said Ali Baba knocks Dimassi's Buffet's socks off." Her: "Okay. Yeah, Mediterranean sounds good." Off we go! So we walk in for dinner. It's pretty busy but there are some tables open that we get seated immediately. First off, I notice that the menus are already on the table. Good on you Ali Baba! No need to have the host/hostess bring menus with them, they're already there. Seriously, why don't other restaurants do this? They don't want to spend the money to have enough menus for every table? *sigh* This just makes sense. Then you look over the menu and you notice that there isn't a huge selection. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as The Wife points out. "With a small menu, you know everything is good!" True. At least that's what you hope. We were going to find out. Everything on the menu looks pretty good. I thought I'd give the good 'ole Gyros a shot. If you can't do a good Gyro, you really gotta think about running a restaurant that is Mediterranean. The wife was going to get something else but settled on the Saffron Chicken. We also got a Roasted Cauliflower side as an appetizer. First the cauliflower. MAN, was it good. We were quite hungry so this does play a little in how good it tastes, however, even the last bite was still particularly good. It's cauliflower with olive oil and salt and pepper then it's roasted. I might add that it also came out very quickly. Maybe within 5 minutes of ordering it. Not only is the cauliflower delicious, it comes with a dipping sauce that puts it over the top. Seriously good eats. Then came the main dishes. The Gyros were good. I'd say par for the course. It's a pretty big helping of Gyro meat and it comes with a mound of rice, some tomatoes, pickles, olives and tzatziki sauce. The pita bread comes complementary. Not out of this world, but average. The Wife wasn't wild about the Saffron Chicken. She thought it needed more flavor. I actually liked it a lot. The chicken was tender and the sauce was very creamy. It's basically curry chicken. I ate the leftovers today for lunch and might have over nuked the dish and the chicken was tough. As I got to the bottom of the dish, I noticed a lot of oil draining out of the rice. I even set my dish tilted so the rest of the oil could drain out as I finished up the rest. Why does it taste so good? The oil makes it taste good, apparently! All in all, we would definitely come back. Before tax and tip, our bill came to $30. It's more than we normally spend but it was pretty good. Compared to Dimassi's that's about right for a full priced buffet for two. We decided if we're going to pay full price at Dimassi's, we may as well go to Ali Baba's instead. This place is unbelievably good. The baked cauliflower and hummus as appetizers is a great way to kick off an amazing meal. My buddy and I both ordered the Kafta kabobs for entrees. It comes with a generous scoop of basmati rice and perfectly seasoned grilled vegetables. You get 3 good sized kabobs that are perfectly seasoned and grilled. The wives had the half roasted chicken that comes with saffron rice and a garlic dipping sauce. The garlic dipping sauce is out of this world incredible. I was literally dipping everything into it. The service at Ali Baba is just as good as anything else here, the place is spacious and clean. The entrees run about $15 per plate and the portion sizes are big. Afrah and Ali Baba are close to each other and similar in the Mediterranean offerings that they specialize in. We come back to both of them often, and they have become favorites for us in DFW. When it comes to their buffets, the food offerings are pretty similar. Ali Baba probably has more variety and definitely has more space. Afrah is building an expanded space, but at the moment Ali Baba is definitely nicer and probably more of a friendly spot for introducing people to mediterranean options. I am less interested in Ali Baba when the buffet is not available. It's pretty pricey. read more

My husband and I were visiting Dallas for the weekend and were craving some Mediterranean food. We went for the lunch buffet and IT WAS AMAZING!!!! All of the food was fresh and hot, and there were plenty of variety available. The saffron rice and saffron chicken were delicious! As was the fresh hummus, babaganoush and pita bread. The gyro meat was so good that every time they put out a fresh batch it was gone within minutes. Our only regret is we didn't stay an extra day to eat here again! Man, I was such a Lakewood Ali Baba fan! I miss that AB location so much! I will have to say that the food is still delicious! Hubby & I met our daughter & her boyfriend for lunch at this location and it was crazy-crowded! I didn't mind the 20 minute wait because I knew exactly what I was waiting for. First, I'm always impressed with the cleanliness and freshness of the buffet, no matter how packed the restaurant is. The waitstaff is ON IT, to make sure there are no empty or untidy dishes on the buffet. The Bread is always fresh and warm....I love the seasoning on the Zataar bread! The lamb is seasoned to perfection. The chicken is grilled and seasoned exactly the way I like it. The seasoned and sauteed Cauliflower calls my name. The Humus is really good & my favorite, Saffron Chicken & Mediterranean Rice.....mmmm....mmm good! I always leave Ali Baba's feeling satisfied with the service & the delicious food choices. Wanted to visit Milk & Honey Jerusalem Marked and Grill last night for dinner (a Friday), but like a dummy, completely forgot they are closed on Fridays (presumably for Shabbat). D'oh! So... looked on Yelp for some other Mediterranean type restaurant, with high ratings, nearby... and ta-da! It says Ali Baba is a shoo-in! So, I pick up my galpal (who is married into an orthodox Jewish - and Israeli - family, so she knows her authentic stuff from the other junk that's out there), and we head to Ali Baba! Upon arriving, the inside is nice and clean -- a plus. The menu however, is only one page, and lacking A LOT. We were both disappointed they didn't have any Mediterranean choices for beverages - basically soft drinks, water, or tea - plain ol' sweet or unsweet, same as any old restaurant. We were hoping at least for some Lebanese tea! We decided to just order a BUNCH of stuff to try, and bring home whatever was leftover. Amongst the things we ordered: Za'atar bread Hummos Baba ghanouj Saffron chicken Lentil soup Falafels Firstly, they brought the hummos and baba ghaouj before the drinks even had time to be brought. And...they were both arranged in their bowls with little garnishes, all pretty like a picture. This leads me to believe that they were probably sitting back there in a fridge, waiting to be ordered, already pre-made. I don't know, something about that takes away from the Middle-Eastern or Mediterranean food experience for me. Call me a snob, I'll own it, at least on this occasion. They brought out some pita, which was hot and seemingly fresh. That was pretty good, I gotta hand it to them on that. The last of the appetizers, the za'atar bread, arrived, and looked great, but upon first bite, we realized it was far too soaked in olive oil. The oil overpowered the flavors of the za'atar seasonings and the bread itself. This also made the bread soggy, leaving just the edges to be perfectly crispy and delicious. It was disappointing to taste that perfectly crispy edge and know that, had they shown more care with the olive oil, the whole thing would be like this -- perfect. Alas. When the lentil soup came, my friend knew it would be "different" due to the odd color. It was so...brown! It seems as if they went with a brown lentil soup recipe, which certainly would be authentic if we were in an Egyptian restaurant, but not for something claiming to be somewhat Lebanese. Also the soup lacked turmeric to color it yellow.... and was pretty much void of spices. Babaghanouj and hummos weren't BAD, but they tasted no different from what we could have bought, prepackaged, from Walmart -- WALMART for Pete's sake. It may have actually been that stuff, just scooped out and arranged to look pretty in a bowl with some garnish. I couldn't tell the difference. The falafels weren't altogether BAD, but they were a little dry, and lacking garlic. Also, they were seemingly formed using a mold??? Just one more way to throw yourself under the bus as a prepackaged chain type of place, rather than an authentic, self-respecting Lebanese or Middle Eastern or Mediterranean (whichever you choose, now that I know they ARE a chain, their different restaurants claim different labels, wtf?) restaurant. My saffron chicken was okay, but not worth $14 dollars. The description on the menu made it sound like some sort of curry, with saffron rice. However, it was...kind of plain. The saffron rice was not yellow with saffron, and tasted like it was cooked with chicken broth -- not so great for any vegetarians who may eat here. Overall, the food wasn't TERRIBLE, or inedible...however, it was not what it was labeled. Nothing about this place is Lebanese (besides the fact they serve a slice of lemon with their lentil soup...even though the lentil soup is the Egyptian version...haha weirdos). There's nothing wrong with the food here if you're just looking to fill your stomach. However there is something wrong if you're looking to fill your stomach with Lebanese food or with Middle Eastern food. I might as well have gone to Applebees. I will not be returning. Instead, I'll be looking for actual Middle Eastern food somewhere else. read more

I have been coming to here for 25 years. My wife and I used to go to the original located on lowest Greenville ave when we were just dating. They had about ten tables and they were always full. The food has never missed a beat. I mean hundreds of meals and not one bump in the road. I have been in the restaurant business exactly 34 years and I couldn't say that about any place including my own. The meal. Chicken Kabobs with an order of falafel and a Baba Ganoush with an extra plate of veggies and lots of pita bread. Moussaka is great for vegetarians and for non vegetarians. I usually get a combo of these things with guests and we eat family style. They are fast, efficient, friendly, and the place in impeccably clean. I don't care if you live an hour from here. It's worth the drive. I live about 25 minutes away and rarely leave my hood to eat. But this is my one exception. read more

This place is part of my lunch rotation. I've only been here for the lunch buffet, and will try out their dinner menu one of these days. The buffet offers a good variety of meats, salads, and sides. They have this creamy garlic sauce that taste so delicious when paired up with the rotisserie chicken. (Reminded me of the amazing garlic sauce I had at Zankou Chicken out in California). I always end my meal with the pistachio rosewater rice pudding. You pay at the front before you eat. I don't like the fact that a drink is included in the buffet cost. WOW! We just left and it was so good I was compelled to write this review STAT. The place was incredibly crowded (looks like you can call ahead of time) but the wait went by fast. You pay up front which ends up making the whole experience a lot more convenient. The food was fresh and tasty. I loaded my plate with veggie salads and spreads, skip the regular pita and go for the ztar! For meat the chicken koffta and saffron chicken won be over. We ate quickly and walked away happy. Have come here often with my fellow Mediterraneans all though of the East Mediterranean variety (Palestinian friends) on several occasions and we all enjoy the food very much! Ali Baba maintains freshness which is one of the major ingredients to any Mediterranean cuisine, the second being balance great balance of ingredients throughout. The lamb reminds me of my days in Sardinia as lamb to me is always one of the flavors of home! And anytime you find lamb on a buffet that is a win so long as it is cooked well, and here it is! The bread is always fresh, and cooked in a brick oven just like my grandmother,(and grandfather when she wasn't around) used to make! All the usual suspects are here maklouba, tabbouleh, hummus, falafel, even sometimes things that are not usually found at east med buffets like molokhia (think spinach soup except it is not spinach it is a green that grows often in Egypt and other parts of the Eastern Mediterranean basin sometimes cooked with meat). Everything is fresh and made in true Mediterranean fashion. If you are a Mediterranean person as me (Italians are not Mediterraneans you say? Buy a Map my friend.) I tried to go to their location off of Lakewood but evidently they closed it it was near Gaston Avenue. They have the best sauteed spinach I've ever tasted! I rarely rely on opinions of others to help write my reviews but I would be remiss if I did not include them here. You see, I am a Mediterranean rookie. I don't know hummus from Hummel figurines or babaganoush from Bababooey but my dinner companions on recent visits raved about them both. What I do know is that Ali Baba knows how to grill kabobs something fierce (but not Christian Soriano fierce). The meat is flavorful and juicy and substantial enough to completely fill you up and leave some for the next day. I recently had some of their chicken added to my Greek salad and it was a perfect compliment. If you like Gyros, be prepared for the mountain of delicious meat that will inhabit your plate. Order the chicken curry and you get practically and entire chicken (OK, they're boneless cubes but you didn't want bones and skin, did you?) in a wonderful sauce with an ample amount of mushrooms. Additionally, most meals comes with perhaps the most moist (say that 3 times fast) rice pilaf. The one downside that I have seen is that the food takes a bit long but it seems well worth it. Ali Baba will satisfy not only the most ardent admirer of Medi cuisine but also newbies like me. If you are tired of the same old chain restaurants along 75 and want to fill yourself with some exciting flavors, pull into Ali Baba's. read more

Ali Baba has really good Mediterranean food!! They have buffet at lunch time, so all you can eat!! They start lunch early and close their buffet at 3pm which I don't like, because if they had buffet all day then I would totally come here everyday. They have limited space for big groups so sometimes you have to wait til other big groups are done with eating. Their buffet is also $15 dollars, so expensive but then again, it's buffet and the food is really good Although their buffet is expensive, the food is really good. We were on our way to another restaurant, passed Ali Baba, looked at the great Yelp reviews and decided to stop in... Everything we had was unique tasting, fresh and flavorful. Prices were very reasonable. Service was attentive. These are the items we had and can recommend. The olive and cheese plate came with a wide variety of olives and feta. Never had babaghanoush before, but it was so good I could have eaten it far a meal. The pita's came out hot and fluffy, best we've ever had anywhere. Not a fan of cauliflower but their roasted cauliflower was unique. The gyro plate came with ample meat and cucumber sauce. The tomato and cucumber plate tasted just picked. I absolutely LOVE gyros. It's probably one of my favorite types of meat. This place definitely does it well. I went to their buffet ($13 or $14) on a Tuesday and it was SO packed. However, the wait wasn't long since we were a table of 2. Highlights of the buffet 1. Gyro meat - the gyro meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. I'm a fan 2. Tomato soup - It was just standard tomato soup. It tasted almost like a creamy marinara. But you absolutely MUST eat this with their fluffy pita bread. It was so good that I could have probably just eaten the tomato soup and pita bread and been content. 3. Cauliflower - They bake their cauliflower and it gets a nice char on the outside. It's one of my favorite ways to eat cauliflower. 4. Grilled vegetables - The grilled vegetables help cut on the greasiness of the meats. 5. Pita bread - They're great pillows of bread. LOVE 6. Saffron chicken - I don't usually like chicken breast, but this was SO good. The saffron sauce is absolutely divine. This place is very similar to Terra's. Is it possible to give this place 10 stars!? My boyfriend and I decided to swing by for the lunch buffet with our daughter since we were in the area doing business. We've had this place bookmarked for a while and finally had the chance to come by. It was about 1:30 when we arrived, and the cashier let us know the buffet would be closing by 2:30/3:00. (this was more than enough time) You pay when you first walk in, which makes the whole process easier as you leave. The host walks you to your table, and grabbed a high chair for our little girl. The drink station is self serving, so you're able to refill as many/much as you want (and also get two drinks if you're weird like me). The cold and two hot buffet lines were kept full and at appropriate temperatures the entire time. What can I say about the food? Not only was it fresh, it was delicious, and I can't stop thinking about it a day later! I really appreciated their cold buffet's selection of cold appetizers and salads. The Greek salad, tabouleh, and hummus were all delicious! My boyfriend absolutely loved the creamy yogurt sauce, and the pasta and mushrooms and dolmas apps. The hot buffets had great selections for schwarma, ground chicken, green beans, saffron rice, potatoes, roasted chicken, hot mushrooms, roasted vegetables, and tomato basil/cream of mushroom soup! Don't forget to grab the freshly made flatbread as well. My picky (almost 2 year old) little girl devoured her rice, some grilled kebab meat, and finished off with their sweet rice dessert with fresh fruit. The best part was the simple dessert to enjoy a truly great lunch! No service since everything is self serve. The busser did a great job prebussing continuously though and removing plates. The ladies' restroom was definitely clean, with large stalls. Only thing I could comment on is maybe updating/upgrading the furniture and tableware. When I was in college at UT, I would take the bus to Dallas on the weekends to visit my sister and bro in law. On a few occasions, I would come solely because I knew they would feed me (a poor starving college student) delicious food from the Dallas restaurant scene. Ali Baba was one of the first places I ate at when I visited Dallas. Now as a Dallas area resident for 2 years, this place is still my go to Mediterranean place. Its got a decent atmosphere and ambience - its not so hole in the wall but not super fancy either. Just right. And the food? One Word: YUM. Here is the breakdown: Hummus: great basic hummus. Has tang and garlic and tastes delicious with the warm pita bread they serve. I have had their chicken kabobs, lamb kabobs, and kafta kabobs. All are delicious and they have yet to disappoint. The roasted vegetables they serve are awesome, which include zucchini, mushroom, onion, and yellow/red bell peppers, all slightly herbed and roasted complement the meat. The rice is also good, not a ton of flavor which helps it complement the rest of the food on the plate. And a MUST order (if it doesn't come with your entrée already) is the GARLIC SAUCE. YUM! This stuff slathered all over your food will give you the best mouthgasm ever. This is a definitely my go-to place for great Mediterranean food. I have been here for dinner as well as the lunch buffet. You definitely get more bang for your buck here at lunch. I believe the buffet is around $14 but I could be wrong. This place is busy at lunch. We had to wait for a table at 12:30pm, and the buffet ($14) lines were hard to maneuver because it seems people just enter the line whenever they want. Food was tasty, hot and plentiful.. I only had one plate, resisted going back for seconds as I had to go back to work. Pretty bad heartburn the rest of the day. Buffet is nicely done. To find a buffet that serves hot food is outstanding. Everything tasted good and the choices are extensive. I've eaten here a few times now, and haven't been disappointed. You might have to wait during peak lunch hours but it moves pretty quick. I see they have painted recently, and so it feels pretty fresh and clean. The booths style seating can use an update.
