I'm rarely impressed and yet I was thoroughly impressed at Cafe Max. Went for lunch because all those Chicken Salad Chick commercials had me jonesin' for some chicken salad. My go to is usually MarketStreet for one of their very good chicken salad sandwiches in the to go case. That's not close enough for a Richardson lunch so I found Cafe Max via a Yelp search. They offer 8 different salads, sandwiches and a quiche and soup of the day in addition to desserts like brownies and cookies. Most people get the trio of pick your salad. I chose Caesar salad (huge and better than La Madeline), chicken salad and seafood salad. The Caesar was fresh and creamy. The chicken salad was delicious and consists of large strips of chicken, green bell strips, cucumber strips, apple strips and a sweet tangy dressing. The seafood salad is julienne strips of imitation crab in a creamy dressing and it's generous and phenomenal. The trio with both chicken and seafood is $15 which may seem high but consider the quality is high and the helpings are enough for either two people or two lunches it's very fair. I'm going to be returning with coworkers and will use this as my go-to for catering office working lunches. I used Jason's Deli last time and this blows it out of the water.

The to-go line is quick since it's separate from the dine-in line. Portions are huge, so you get a lot of food. Be sure to try their muffin and cheesecake--they're amazing!

Salad sampler was a good pick if you've never been there before and wanting to try it all!

For a quick salad lunch this is a great spot. Dine-in still isn't an option at this time since they are short staffed but the to-go process is pretty quick and easy. If you are really in a crunch for time, you can call ahead 15 minutes and place your order to skip the line. They still enforce face masks and limit the number of people in the store (thank you!). My first time here, I wanted to try everything so I got the salad sampler which included a heft scoop of Cesar salad and 7 small scoops of the other types. I enjoyed them all and my least favorite one was the vegetable (probably because it was the healthiest one!).

I recently made a return visit to Cafe Max after almost 16 years!! This mini cafeteria is near my old high school so some of my friends and I used to grab some on our way home. All these years later and it's still exactly the same!! They have a pretty limited menu, but let me tell you this: Cafe Max makes some of the best Caesar salad + pasta salad you will have ever tried. The caesar is made with the perfect amount of dressing, the croutons have a unique seasoning to them, and the dark green lettuce brings it all together for an addicting plate. I brought some over to my sister who is not a salad person, and Cafe Max has converted her. And the pasta salad. Well, it's creamy and perfect. I'm not sure how else to describe it. I love pasta salads and have eaten them my whole life, but the seasoning and flavors CM uses are incredible. Try it, trust me. COVID update: you must wear a mask to enter the small cafe. They are also offering carryout and catering.

They have the zucchini muffins and I love the chicken salad and cucumbers salad. They give you enough salad for at least two days for me.

It's a cool restaurant that has a lot of seating, and cool decor with Guitars displayed on the wall and a small stage for performers. We walked up to where you order. It was counter service and the guy that took our order was laid back. We paid, he gave us a number and then we chose a place to sit and waited for our food. We ordered several items to share. We started off with a charcuterie board that had meats, cheeses, nuts, fruit, and toasted bread. It was really good. The bread was able to hold the ingredients and was nice and crispy but not overly crispy. The meats were good and the different cheeses were flavorful with different textures. The fruit was fresh and the nuts were a nice crunchy addition. Very yummy start. We also shared the Tejas Nachos with Brisket. The Nachos come with tortilla chips covered in cheese, queso, jalapenos, tomatoes, and crema. They were okay. The Brisket was plentiful. There was a lot of cheese and queso spread out all over the nachos. It was a little too much. The chips got soggier the closer you got to the bottom of the pile. Our last shared item was the ZZ Top BBQ Flatbread. It was okay. It came with an overabundance of cheese. It also came with jalapenos, BBQ sauce, and we ordered it with Chicken. It was okay. The cheese was gooey but overwhelming. The jalapenos added a spicy flavor and the BBQ sauce was tasty. Overall the restaurant has a cool atmosphere with good service. The counter service, ordering and paying process was quick and easy. Everytime someone brought our food to us they were friendly. The food was okay and literally very cheesy.

We've been to other RG locations and this was similar to those. It wasn't overly busy, so we were promptly helped. We started with the $6 HH special, Rattlesnake, which is a frozen marg with sangria swirl. It was heavenly! And at $6, sign me up for two! The burgers were as expected, fantastic. The ranch house was impeccable with that bacon/onion jam. Wish I had another. The fries, both sweet potato and regular were quite crispy and seasoned well. The atmosphere is super laid back and casual, which we liked--but just a heads up, this isn't the place to go if you're in a hurry. They definitely take their time. There's a ton of seating both inside and outside, and the space itself is pretty fun. The decor is entertaining and they even have some little games around, which adds to the vibe. Everything felt clean--the tables were well taken care of and the bathrooms were spotless. As for food, we ordered the Blue Goat, the H.L. Hunt, the Royale with Cheese, and the cheese fries (No Surprise). I had the Blue Goat (no onions). It was good overall, though I wish the blue cheese flavor was a bit stronger. My husband got the H.L. Hunt and really enjoyed the candied bacon. Our son had the Royale with Cheese and it filled him up so much that he didn't even touch fries--and he loves fries, so that says a lot. Speaking of fries, the order was HUGE--easily enough for 5-6 people. If we come back, I'd definitely dig into those first while the cheese is still warm and gooey. By the time we got to them after our burgers, everything had kind of stuck together. Overall, a fun, casual spot with solid burgers and massive portions--just plan for a slower-paced experience.

I got a nine inch panini on focaccia bread paired with the soup of the moment: potato, leek, and artichoke soup, which was surprisingly so good and comforting. My friend ordered the same combo but paired hers with the Brussels sprout salad and had her panini on focaccia bread with tuna. She was also offered three wine tastings, which we thought was such a nice touch! To end everything, we tried the hot donut dots and they were amazing.
