Decided to give this place a try. The food was decent but the service was great so that made up for it. The restaurant was tidy and clean. Nice atmosphere considering it's in a casino. I really enjoyed the open concept kitchen. Their wings were not that great but the ranch was good so, I smothered them in that. While the sauces were good, the wings tasted frozen. The garlic fries were REALLY good and they gave us a nice portion. I may try one more time during my stay here. read more

Stopped by Alice's Restaurant in Blue Lakes and it absolutely delivered. Ordered the Cobb salad--and not exaggerating, it was one of the best I've had. Everything was fresh, perfectly balanced, and done right: crisp bacon, well-seasoned chicken, ripe avocado, and just the right amount of dressing. No shortcuts here. What really set it apart though was the service. Attentive without being overbearing, everything came out on point, and you could tell they actually care about the experience. The drink we ordered which was the lucky charm martini looked like a cup of milk with purple sprinkles on the rim and it was disgusting. The food is just gross, bland and heavy. It's also overpriced. It is hard to mess up a steak and sautéed veggies. Alice sure knows how to do it. The steak: tasted like a cheap cut from winco that had way too much pepper on it. Medium Rare is considered close to jerky in their eyes. My zucchini was doing the back stroke in canola oil and again someone went overboard with the seasoning. The day before I had tried their in-house IPA at a beer festival. (Thanks for supporting a local non profit). The IPA was great, I ordered another, I didn't get an IPA, it tasted somewhere along the lines of a sour porter(if that is a thing). I mentioned it to the server, her response, "well I watched it get poured, I know it is IPA." We waited 30 minutes for water refills, never getting them, and then had to go to the host station and ask to pay. The whole experience was overwhelmingly underwhelming. read more

Clam chowder was ok but same sourish taste. Strange. The cheese burger would have been great if they had seasoned the beef. Not even salt and pepper. To bad. Coffee was good but $4 a cup was pricey. I almost didn't eat here, after reading all of the scathing reviews. I'm really glad I did. We stopped for a quick dinner before a concert at the casino. We ordered a beer from Powers Creek Brewing and ordered our entrees. My sister and I each had the ribeye with rosemary Gorgonzola butter. Both were cooked to a perfect medium rare and arrived piping hot. I didn't get a picture but my uncle ordered the French dip and it was amazing. The meat was so smoky and delicious and the sourdough roll was so tender. If we had stayed here another day, I would have ordered that next. We'll definitely be back! read more

I came here with my family and a friend to enjoy a late lunch, thinking they had a good burger and beer. I'm with my 35-year-old friend while I'm approaching 45, and my 8-year-old daughter is with us. During the meal, I ordered one of the IPAs and offered my friend a taste. To our surprise, the waitress insisted on seeing his ID since he didn't order the drink directly from her. Despite his ID being in the car, he decided he didnt want a beer to drink.. he didnt want to run to the care in the rain to retrieve it from the parking lot and vowed not to taste my drink again. We apologized and remained polite, understanding the situation. However, the waitress went over to the host station and engaged in conversation with three other servers while glancing at us. About 10 minutes later, the head of security approached our table, informing us that my friend was banned from the casino for 30 days. I was taken aback and felt extremely uncomfortable. In an attempt to address the inconsistency, I mentioned that they never asked for my ID when I ordered. Despite our compliance and acknowledgment of the mistake, the security head stared blankly at me but insisted on the policy. Feeling unsettled, I decided to cut our visit short. I told him we were leaving and we had lost our appetite. I assured him there was no need to ban my friend, as we had no intentions of returning. We paid the bill, left a tip, and abandoned my full beer on the table, minus a sip. My impression is that it must have been a slow day, and the staff seemed overly vigilant and perhaps bored. If you enjoy spending a significant amount of money on mediocre, greasy food, being scrutinized by waitresses, monitored by a security team, and possibly harassed for just being there, then this place might be suitable for you. read more

Went here for Mother's Day. Was expecting the buffet. That's gone. So we ordered from their regular menu. Chicken fried steak was not good. Very tough. Very salty. The pork loin special had minimal flavor. Brussels sprouts were bland and tough. Nothing on any of the plates was hot. Pretty dissapointing meal all around. Server was uninterested in our issues. Perfectly cooked salmon and rice in a yummy sauce with black sesame. Husband had a chicken sandwich which he enjoyed. The tall one made us delicious Old Fashioneds. Yeah un M... This was a great all around establishment. Ate here 3 times during my stay at the blue lake casino for my friends wonderful wedding. They take your order very nicely and allow you to push together tables for a large group (very accommodating and my friend kept asking to add people) first night I had clam chowder and pizza and the fried ravioli. It was sooooo amazing the rav comes with cheese dipping sauce Next up was the beautiful breakfast. Eggs were scrambled to percection and it had a very unique taste to them. Friend told me his sunny side egg was creamy too. We ordered a bisucts and gravy for the table and had some leftover that we kept in the fridge in the hotel room and I put the pizza I. There and it had a little gravy on it when I ate it again in the morning. Lastly, I went with the boys before we went o get ready for the groom. Sooooo we all got nice breakfast and I had a new meal. The hamburger and eggs which I ordered with side of gravy so it was like a loco mcoooooooooo baby! And now I'm sad because I'm leaving this place but I missed the buffet. Came in for Sunday Brunch after hearing they changed it up some - and this was the absolute worst experience I've ever had in any restaurant, from start to finish. Terrible service, rude waiters, inedible food. And I do mean inedible, the biscuits could knock someone out cold thrown from a short distance, the gravy was coagulated flour and grease, everything else was under temp and soggy.. don't even waste the time stopping in. The waitress that opened up with "be fucking patient" - yes, seriously...took my order and then took my food to another table and didn't bother to reorder it. Just absolutely terrible all the way around. Management should shut this embarrassment down but they won't because they're banking off these powdered, rehydrated eggs and wilted salads for $20-30 per person. I came in hungry with a chip on my shoulder after losing it all on the blackjack table. My waitress consoled me, held me in her arms as I ordered a short stack, a side of bacon and a vegan breakfast sandwich that I put the bacon on. She was an angel in the night. The food arrived and I ate. I had acids reflux prior and the food cleansed my esophagus vis a vis Japanese reverse carry trade. This review is an aggregate of all of my experiences eating at Alice's Restaurant. Most of my visits have been pleasant and tasty, with awesome customer service, though I have some recommendations for improvement which I will detail below. Most of the negative parts of this review are from the past two times I've eaten here, so I hope the negative blips are not becoming a trend. Alice's Restaurant has always been clean and lovely - whoever chose the decor did a great job. The food on the standard menu is great! I thoroughly enjoy eating lunch and dinner here, and the chocolate cake is to die for! Please do yourself a favor and order it. Brunch, however, is a whole different ballgame. The past few times I've eaten brunch at Alice's the food has been overcooked and dry. I suggest one of two things - replace the food more often or end brunch an hour and a half/two hours earlier. Brunch currently goes on until 3 P.M, and by that time the quality goes way downhill. A more specific part of this review: today (a Saturday) my friend and I arrived at around 2:15 for lunch, only to be met with the brunch set-up...which we had explicitly avoided. Why was the brunch on Saturday when it's posted everywhere that brunch is on Sunday? Being 2:15 the waitress should have let us know that seating for the standard menu would be in 45 minutes, but instead she led us to a table, informed us of the brunch (basically the leftovers), and seemed pretty uninterested in us the entire time we were there. The food was a bit overcooked and dry. Thank goodness the mimosas were included in the price of the brunch - they were hands down the best part of the meal. I feel like the wait staff should inform people of when the regular menu will be back in business - especially if they arrive within 45 minutes of the menu change. And most definitely when brunch is on a day other than Sunday (their usual brunch day). I love Alice's, but please revamp the way you handle brunch, and please make sure that your wait staff is providing quality service. I'd love to rate your restaurant five stars but I can't bring myself to do so after my past few visits. I hope to be back soon for my tried-and-true lunch and dinner favorites, and hope that I can one day enjoy a quality brunch here! read more

My husband and I are up at Blue Lake for a terrorism training and the food options in this area are extremely limited. Alice's food is good but menu options are extremely limited with minimal healthy options. I had the Cobb salad two days in a row (it was tasty and fresh). The next day I had a side salad and sautéed squash as a side. Again, both flavorful. The servers are very friendly and the place is super clean. I would give one more star if there were other options for me to choose from on the menu. However, I will say what I had was worth it. read more

Wait staff doesn't have the balls to tell customers when they close so instead they seat them and then completely ignore them until they leave. The staff would even turn in any direction that faced us, it was incredibly childish. If that would have told us that the closed in 25 minutes that would have been fine and we all would have understood and left, so rude to seat us and completely ignore us like that. Used to work food service before, I understand that accuracy and communication are big around a restaurant environment. Although it should be said , that the way an establishment treats new employees is very eye opening to the public. I guess what I'm saying is, if you have a new employee you shouldn't really be that harsh/strict. Especially if you aren't providing a better chance to learn and grow from mistakes, and out right in front of guests/patrons. Maybe that's why there's a high turnover rate? read more

This restaurant is inside of the Blue Lake Casino. The food is tasty, but there is a reek of smoke wafting into the restaurant from the adjacent casino. The smoke makes the dining unpleasant. There is a sushi bar adjacent to the restaurant. In the sushi bar, you can also order from the Alice's menu. However, beware, while the food from the sushi bar came quickly, the food ordered from Alice's took an unacceptable amount of time; my wife already finished her sushi while I was still waiting for my meal. (My review of the sushi bar is in a separate article). It was Thanksgiving night when we arrived at the Blue Lake Hotel and went to the restaurant for dinner. (We celebrated Thanksgiving with our son on the next day, since he had to work that night). Given that it was Thanksgiving, I wanted something "Thanksgivingy", but not turkey since we would be having that the next night. The restaurant had several Thanksgiving specials being offered that night, in addition to the normal turkey dinner. I tried the Thanksgiving Salmon special dinner ($32). It included a nice sized thick and jucy piece of salmon, that was perfectly cooked with a nice sauce, and also had mashed potatoes, green beans, and yams (the sides made it "Thanksgivingy"). Very delicious. A salad was also included. The waitress kept apologizing for the late food, but the food still never came until about 40+ minutes. They should have said that there would be a delay at the time of ordering. They should have also paced the delivery of the food more appropriately, such as delaying making my wife's sushi until my food was getting ready. Also, my salad was served one minute before the entree; they could have served that long before the entree finally arrived. I would rate the restaurant much higher except for the long delay in serving the food and also the reeking smoke. They need to install a door between the restaurant and the casino, or vastly improve the ventilation system. read more

Staff was very friendly. That is the only reason im giving this restaurant two stars. They somehow made every single dish so under seasoned but yet so overly seasoned in the worst possible ways. I seriously don't know how they did it. We got the chimmichuri steak and the mahi mahi with a buffalo wing appetizer. Let's start with the wing. It tasted like the baked them, then waterboarded them, then spit buffalo sauce onto them. I could have chewed on a wet napkin with buffalo sauce and had a better texture. The chimmichuri steak was supposed to be medium rare but the center was medium well. It took me longer to gnaw through one piece of steak then it took my boyfriend to have his morning poo. The 6 potato wedges we received with the steak was the best thing on the menu. Hurrah for potatoes. The mahi was okay... but dry. I don't know how you make a fish dry. I'd rather bite into a tapeworm infested piece of sashimi then to put dry fish on my tongue. The "lemon risotto" was more like swishing soggy cardboard with red pepper flakes & freeze dried parsley inside of it in my mouth. All together for 70$ I would have much rather get herpes in an alley near old town eureka then ever come back here for dinner. read more

Went there for the first time in a long time. Got seated fast. Wine was good and at a good price. The waitress was attentive and pleasant. The food was just not very good. I had the bahn mi. I don't think they understand what a bahn mi is supposed to be. What they served me was a traditional burger with runny normal tasteless coleslaw and some tasteless jalapeño slices. Bahn mi are supposed to be refreshing and flavorful. This was not. Now I have a stomach ache. Hopefully everything was cooked correctly. I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

ALL YOU CAN EAT MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH!!! Well, of course I made reservations in advance for 1pm for seven people on Mother's day...the menu sounded great. My family drove quite a distance only to show up to others (with reservations around the same time) waiting in line. The host and waitress seemed frazzled and unprepared to handle any more guests. There were empty booths in the restaurant with dishes piled up. We could only assume there were no bussers. Finally, after waiting 40 minutes, our table was ready. But, it was a small booth better suited for four people which we squeezed five into (two people in our party could not attend). When we got up to peruse the buffet we were shocked at all the empty chaffing dishes. Additionally, the bacon looked almost raw, indicating to us undercooked food (I feel sorry for the probable bathroom trips for those that consumed it). The buffet was scheduled to end at 2pm. It was apparent by the lack of food and time it would be best to find another establishment. What a debacle!!! Whomever was in charge of advertising and procuring such an important event at this restaurant needs to be fired! Also, how terrible to put your waitstaff and kitchen in this situation. You're fortunate to have help on a holiday. We were extremely disappointed that our Mother's Day meal was ruined. I'm not certain if anyone even cares, but we won't return. The service was very poor. They were not busy and I waited for three minutes while the employees just walked by. Someone finally asked if I was eating in or takeout. I was seated and was given my utensils and glass. I was asked what I wanted to drink and I said water. That was the last time I was helped. I waited for over ten minutes. I finally got up and left. I had the samurai Sasquatch roll because I love unagi. I also tried their seaweed salad. I would like to make it clear that I would not have returned to this restaurant ever if we had not been comped breakfast by the hotel after complaining about the first experience at the casino restaurant. The hotel and restaurant are located at the same Blue Lake Casino but they operate under separate management. Let's get the stupid stuff out of the way. #1) It took forever for the waiter to come talk to us. #2) My husband asked for a glass of milk and they brought him a glass of buttermilk. He took a big ol' swig of this buttermilk and almost died of disgust. Poor dude was heartbroken. #3) We saw our waiter cut and manhandle a grill cheese sandwich for some take out orders with his bare hands. *Shudder* Now to the food. I didn't think the food was that bad. The eggs were cooked well. The chicken fried steak was aight. But the bacon wasn't cooked very well from what I understand. My husband and my mother's bacon ranged from crispy to raw within the same bacon strip. Takes talent to mess that up. The coffee was okay though. Came to the same conclusion as I did for dinner the other night. Don't spend money here. I only came in this morning because it was free. read more

We ate here the first time after hiking for 7 miles in the Redwoods State Park on Avenue Of The Giants, and were just too tired to go off site. On the following morning, we ate breakfast here. Overall, service is a strong point here. Both of our waiters were excellent. However, the food and coffee is lacking overall considering the price point. On one occasion, the hamburger bun was FROZEN when served. Who doesn't toast their buns? The coffee was touted as gourmet and organic, but was inferior to the free coffee served at the "Lily Pad" in the back of the casino floor. A second cup was a little stronger and adequate, but not worth the $2 price tag. My wife said her chicken dish was "insipid," but she liked her "deluxe breakfast burrito." If you're staying at the adjacent hotel, you get $8 off per person on your check. My advice, is to eat at the "Lily Pad" at the back of the casino, which has better prices, better coffee, and decent food. read more

Worst food & service I've had in Humboldt & I've been here 10+ years! I asked for one order of their fixed Christmas menu ($24) & a dessert to split between the table of 2. When the check came we were charged for TWO full orders plus the dessert because according to them "the chef asked me to" because he took the liberty to "serve you double" even thought we 1) didn't ask them to and 2) clearly this wasn't true by the minimal portion serving given to us. After asking them over and over again to only charge us for what we asked for they finally charged one $24 order, the dessert & the split charge of $5. The food was tasteless, cold & discolored. The server...in a big hurry, needs schooling in how the customers should get their meal in the correct order and timing. She brought all three courses within 5 minutes. Her reason was that one of the cooks had to go on a break!!!??? The server walks to the table next to us to refill their water glasses, then proceeds to walk past our table, with my wife's empty glass in full view. I guess the server needs glasses. Or she couldn't see it due to the excessive amount of plates and bowls on the table. Fine dining it isn't. Fairly limited menu. At least the hot food was hot. But it wasn't worth the price. We ordered the prime rib to be cooked 'medium rare' and what we got looked raw. It was nearly imposable to cut through and was way too chewy. I'm convinced the chef decided to brown the sides and call it good. When we called a waiter over to look at it himself, he said he'd ask the chef about it. He came back, told us that the chef said it was fine and walked off. No one ever offered to give us a new, properly cooked piece or even take back the pieces we had to cook them more. My $30 steak came with the classic side choices of french fries or "Spagetti." Alfredo sauce was a $3 up charge and I see why because the "red sauce" tasted like a filthy chimpanzee strained all the liquid out of a can of spagetti O's by hand, directly after thumb wrestling with an even filthier chimpanzee. In the past, we've had good meals at Alice's. I hadn't been there in about 2 years, though. Tonight, I was served the blandest, most unsatisfying meal I think I've ever had at a restaurant. It appears that they've begun using cheap, frozen mixed veggies, like you'd expect to get in a school cafeteria, not at a restaurant where you're going to spend $30+ on your meal. That was a bummer, but not the worst part. We ordered wild rice cakes with mushroom cream sauce for appetizers. The wild rice was burned in several places, and it was strangely stuffed full of the aforementioned frozen veg. The cream sauce over the top was extremely bland. No salt or any other discernable seasoning. Also, it was more like a gravy than cream sauce. My mom ordered chicken fettuccine alfredo and I ordered pasta primavera, both were with alfredo sauce. I took a bite and it literally tasted like plain cream on noodles. Alfredo usually has butter, garlic, salt, pepper, parmesan cheese at the very least, in addition to the cream. I'll eat my hat if it had any of the above. My mom's tasted exactly the same. I don't want to come off as being bitchy, or a picky customer, or snooty, but I'm telling you. Whoever cooked it, did not taste the product they were sending out, and if they are using some kind of premade sauce, they need to get their money back and start ordering something else. I asked the waitress if there was any chance that maybe they had forgotten the parm when making the sauce or something. She went and talked to the cooks, who were all standing like 2 feet away from me, staring. She said it was made properly. I am not one to send my food back or to be a pain in the butt to wait staff, so I tried to salt it and added a side of parm she brought. It didn't help, so I just left it. To their credit, she was nice about it. She offered to have it remade, or to order something else, but my appetite was pretty much done by then. I have no complaints about the service, but my goodness, they really need to step up their game on the quality of food they're sending out in Alice's. Alice's restaurant, a play on the Arlo Guthrie classic. That's about as good as it gets. This place is an odd mix of both sushi and steaks. I've eaten here a couple times, and its always been interesting, as it's about the only place in the casino to eat without being in the middle of the casino. The place is never full on our visits, and the service has always been sadly lacking at best. Alice's also supports the room service menu for the Hotel and you surprisingly get better service when you order into your room. It's never taken more than half an hour to get food to the room, but in the restaurant on our last visit it took nearly 35 minutes to get dinner? Which i find odd. The food itself can be hit and miss. My wife and I both ordered house salads with our meals. They were both lack-luster and not appealing to the eye. Ice berg lettuce (which would have been fine except) it was brown and the yellow part of the lettuce head - completely unappetizing - the "Blue Cheese" dressing was a joke. It tasted like pure mayo with just tiniest amount of blue cheese mixed in - not blue cheese dressing. We did not eat/finish them. My wife's cheese pasta dish was actually very good and a large portion so much so, she had to get a to go box. My Rib-eye steak though cooked very well (medium rare) was very fatty and about a quarter of it inedible, which at $30 bucks for a steak you expect a better cut of beef, especially for a Rib-eye. The baked potato was okay as was my side broccoli. Again, hit and miss. Have not tried the sushi yet, as the raw aspect of it is kind of a scary thought here. The only saving graces, their bottle wine special for the night - we got a $28 bottle for $10 bucks and you can walk with it in the casino, if you can't finish it! And, our waiter - he was professional and fairly attentive, made a good recommendation of the wine deal and made us feel appreciated even though the meal timing part was beyond his control. It's not a bad place to eat, the room service is better than the restaurant (if you're staying overnight) - it's just not a great place to eat and sadly it could be. If you are wondering why this place is empty it's because this place takes a hour to get a single appetizer to the table also the food taste like other food so for example if you bite into a a slice of tune it may taste like a bell pepper combined with onion Sautéed in pineapple sauce it's strange to describe but they should fix that problem also it took them 2 hours to get my sushi roll out and then I had to go thanks. Also when I made the manager aware she was having a hard time understanding how as a consumers I would care ,as would prefer for everything to be on the better side so we wouldn't have to tell them how to take constructive criticism so they can have more then 2 stars on review sites This is my 5 th time in 5 years here & I guess something s will never change. read more
