I was back visiting in Humboldt County, and so I decided to drive up from Eureka for breakfast. A great choice. As always, everybody was very friendly. Perusing the menu, I decided to "shoot the works", so to speak, and go for the shrimp and crab omelette. It comes with cheese, but I chose not to have the cheese, and instead of potatoes I had fruit. There was a one dollar upcharge for the fruit, not a big deal, but I wish they would've told me about it. The food comes, and it is amazing! They were extremely generous with both the crab and the shrimp, and there was also just a little bit of mushroom in the omelette. The shrimp were tender, and the crab was so wonderfully savory. It was an absolutely amazing omelette. Next time, I would ask for it with a little bit of cocktail sauce on the side, because I think that would just totally put it over the top. But I am not complaining about this breakfast at all. The fruit was very nice, very fresh pieces of pineapple and melon. It also came with a wonderfully flaky biscuit with honey. What a breakfast! The breakfast wasn't cheap, the omelette was $29. But when you consider how much crab and shrimp they stuffed into that thing, it was more than worth it. Seascape Restaurant is such a great little seaside spot. I came here for breakfast, and it was exactly what you'd hope for--tasty, filling, and perfect with the ocean right outside. One of the best parts is the location. Before or after you eat, you can walk down the dock next door to catch some views and a nice breeze. The north coast is a quagmire in many ways. Rural. One of the most picturesque places in the world. Unlike places like Europe, they don't really cater to tourists too much. However, they are humble, genuine and kind. This little place is the intersection of this. Million dollar location. Humble surroundings, could be a truckstop in the midwest. The service waa good, but a little slow, just because it was pretty busy today. I had the Old Smokey sandwich, was a really great grilled cheese-like sandwich of cream cheese and local smoked salmon and chives. Just fantastic. And a piece of truly amazing blackberry pie. One of the best berry pies I've ever eaten! The restaurant has a classic seaside restaurant style. Not fancy, but it would be out of place if it was fancy. So so mediocre, if that.. we were on the pier today and feeling cold and hungry, I've been wanting to try out the restaurant for a while now since every time I pass it's packed , now I'm just confused why. Today it was definitely a slower day, maybe a third to half of the tables had people in them ? I got a cup of clam chowder and my husband ordered a mushroom burger that had fries on the side. The first placed down waters that were in dirty cups, they had some weird Cheeto looking crumbs on them so we passed on that. He did order a soda to go with his meal but it tasted off ? Anyways we get our food after waiting quite a while but no biggie- we were happy to warm up a bit so it was whatever. My cup of soup came and it was less than fine. It was served pretty messy looking and tasted bland, I ended up adding salt and pepper but really it just wasn't good. My husbands burger was notttt what we were hoping it was going to be. It was $21 first off, which isn't too surprising considering the place overlooks the water but it was bad. They had the lettuce and other toppings on the side of the burger which is totally fine- but they threw the fries over the whole plate so while I'm assuming they were grabbing my soup the fries were getting soggy from sitting on top of the lettuce and onion which just made the lettuce warm soggy and wilted. The burger itself was so flavorless, it just didn't taste like anything so my husband who usually hates ketchup ended up putting ketchup all over it just to get some sort of flavor‍ the fries were good, they were those crispy ones I believe are beer battered ? Those were good but not good enough to save the meal. The service was alright, nothing crazy, but we did notice the restaurant itself was dirty. Crumbs and food on the floor under tables that had been cleaned and set again. Seems like even if they're not busy cleaning is still kinda on the back of their mind. Idk for being kinda pricey for the lame food and environment it was, definitely not impressed. Best view and great breeze! Loved the staff and patrons, had a really nice breakfast and enjoyed our time looking out at the ocean. The people who sat behind us made the time there even more special. She was a retired teacher and had us laugh for 30 seconds and it was absolutely wonderful and a great way to connect with strangers. She also sang a lovely birthday song to one of the other patrons and just made me smile! Now for the food! The pancakes wow - great and huge! We got one of them to go so that we could savor it later as we had a 5 hour drive home. The berries were fresh and the pancake was loaded! Went with the regular syrup cause it was suggested by the staff. The chowder isn't as good as a few other spots I like but it was fresh just could have used a little more of something in the flavor department. And where were the clams? We didn't try the crab sandwich but I might go back to try that and enjoy the view and breeze and hope that the lovely lady stopped in to eat that day! Trinidad is a quaint beach town! The restaurant is literally by the pier and the beach. The 3 star on the restaurant almost detoured me but I wanted to be by the sea. Love this place. The view is spectacular no matter where you are seated. Friendly staff. My boyfriend ordered a smokey omelette which he thoroughly enjoyed. It was filled with cream cheese and smoked king salmon. I ordered a fried oyster sandwich and it was delicious. 3 huge fried oysters on top of very soft and perfectly seasoned garlic bread and a side of coleslaw. It was just the right amount of food! Had seen all the social media buzz--footage of fresh crab, beautiful plates--so we figured we'd give this place another shot after some time away. Unfortunately, this visit just reminded us why we'll likely never be back. Now, let's start with the positives: the view is stunning--easily one of the best in the area. And the service was great--our server was wonderful, caught between a kitchen that doesn't seem to taste its own food, owners squeezing every last penny, and customers left paying the price. I truly wish the staff the best. We've been ordering the sourdough pancakes (her favorite) here for over 15 years. The starter is over 100 years old, brought down from Alaska, and it's traditionally been served with a choice of syrups, including real maple. This time, the pancakes were overripe and sharper than ever before, and the only syrup offered was cheap imitation. They had a berry syrup, but instead of the usual blackberry, it was a generic, artificial-tasting syrup for an extra charge. We both ordered clam chowder cups, and while they looked decent, they were easily the most flavorless chowder I've ever had. Thick, but not creamy. No taste of clam. Just bland. We had to add so much salt and pepper just to get something out of it. Even the Old Bay garnish on top couldn't save it. When we mentioned it to the server, she acknowledged that this was a common complaint. I politely suggested that the kitchen actually taste their chowder before serving it. Then came my shrimp, mushroom, cheddar, and green onion omelet with crispy potatoes. At first glance, it looked fine, but the problems were immediate: Eggs were rubbery and overcooked. Mushrooms were practically raw, clearly stored too long, sweating overnight in the fridge--anyone who's worked in food knows what that means. A quick sauté would've helped, but they didn't even bother. Shrimp were inconsistent in color--some were off-grey, which means old seafood. Not something you want in your breakfast. One bite was enough. The crispy potatoes? Crunchy, sure, but completely flavorless. The biscuit and gravy? Looked like a star--chunky sausage, perfect color--but had no aroma. No butter, no cream, just flour and water with zero flavor. Even the sausage was bland. At this point, we told the server how bad everything was. She comped everything except the coffee and chowder (since we at least attempted to eat those). Credit to her for handling it gracefully. But then, the coffee itself was watered down and flavorless--right in line with the rest of the meal. And the crab? We had come for the crab omelet or crab sandwich, but seeing the menu prices--$42 for a sandwich, $32 for an omelet--we decided to hold off. If you can't make a solid chowder or simple breakfast fare, how can you be trusted with fresh crab? Instead, we drove 1.5 hours north, still craving chowder and crab sandwiches. We found both, in a bustling spot, loaded with actual crab and flavor. The sandwiches? $20 and absolutely delicious. Sorry, guys, but this was our last attempt. You need to taste your food. You need to listen to your customers. And customers need to speak up, because when we started talking with other tables, it was clear--we weren't the only ones feeling this way. If you have to charge that much, especially considering you're a seaside restaurant that touts it's crab everywhere and even based it's brand on a crab. A skillet of 90% potatoes was $18? I understand what it takes to run a business, a restaurant even, if there is something so wrong with your overhead that you're padding dishes with filler this much, something is very wrong. Cleanliness- Flies everywhere, table was crusty, whoever was wiping down must have done a quick single wipe and moved on without looking. Our silverware was clean but the napkins were damp from whatever was on the persons hands who set the table, the floor had some trash here and there, accumulated hair/dust meaning no sweeping or mopping in some time, bathroom was pretty gross, nothing like a health code violation, just not stuff you want to see when you're eating. Sorry but if I can see it without really trying to, it's a problem. Deliciousness- This one kills me, I've been here before and their lunches have been fantastic in the past. Today I had breakfast. A blackberry pancake and the jumping jack skillet. Everything in that skillet was burned. How does one burn eggs and still serve it up. I assumed the cheese was just crisped on the edges but it was black throughout, save for a bit of melted on top, it no longer tasted of cheese, anything in that charred frisbee tasted like... Well, char. The pancake was the opposite, it was lightly cooked on the outside and fell apart as it was still cream inside... It peeled apart. The blackberries were WAY underripe, extremely tart, and as I write this I am enduring the lovely effects of unripe berries, on the porcelain throne if you take my meaning... Environment- I've been here many times and it seems like a cancerous growth, the merchandise keeps growing. You are seaside, on a beach, named The Seascape, why would you cover up the decor and even some of the view with shoddy merchandise, which depicts a basic crab logo on random items. Perhaps focus more on quality and less on merchandizing? Overall very disappointed. I can't help but wonder if this establishment has changed hands or something in the last year. I really don't like writing negative reviews, unfortunately this is another one to add to the books. I'll try again in a few months and update, as I do with every place I review. Location can't be beat - ambiance is comfortable casual. Chowder was average but the sourdough was super tasty. Others liked their seafood linguines. While getting ready to walk the Trinidad pier, we ran into Seascape and put our name on the list. Nice texting system so we beachcombed until our table was ready. They have breakfast until 2 (at least on Saturday) but we went sandwiches. King salmon w cream cheese, sole and crab and shrimp all scored. They are served open face on garlic bread w a 2nd slice of you want to go full sandwich. It's a nice touch and the garlic bread was a slightly thick classic sandwich bread, not like a French roll so they made a good call there. The potato salad tasted homemade and was delicious. My wife went burger w a custom bacon mushroom double patty (1/4 each). The bacon was perfectly cooked and looked artisan,,,thick wide and perfect - not too crispy, not too raw. I had a mimosa that was a nice portion in a jar glass. Service was great and we ate in their sun room portion of the restaurant which is a strong recommend - more light and nicely warm. Very cute place with attentive, responsive service (Phoebe was listed on the check so I believe that's the younger woman's name). Unfortunately: The food. As others have mentioned the prices seemed a little high, $28 for (I think) 6 medium-sized scallops with fries. But I expect that for a well-located tourist spot so not a deal-breaker though you could throw on another couple of scallops. But the fried scallops, though fine for frozen scallops, came out just barely warm. The fries were not to my taste (of course that's a personal preference) but they were even colder, and fried foods should be served piping hot. And my wife's clam chowder, goodness, though hot I have no idea what that sludge was. Listed as "home made", I guarantee you it is not. Claimed on the web site as "what many consider the North Coast's best chowder" I assure you it is not. Owners: Please go order the chowder somewhere else and compare it yourself, and come up with a recipe. Just because you can sell it to people passing through or who don't know better is not a good excuse. Sorry to be critical, the place has potential as a cool find but needs attention from someone with a little more background in food preparation. Thry have the best sourdough pancakes around!! I have had pancakes that say they are sourdough but they don't make my mouth pucker the way these do. It has been 8 years since i last visited and they still taste exactly the same as the last time i had them. So incredibly good with that sour punch. I ordered the crab Louie. Lots of salad and lots of crab. I thought it was OK. I normally like Thousand Island dressing and their's appeared like maybe it was homemade but I didn't really like the flavor as much as even bottled Thousand Island. The salad was OK. Seascape Restaurant, Trinidad, CA - August 26, 2023 We had spent a nice morning checking out the City of Trinidad - enjoying the beach down at the Head, getting a nice cappuccino and scone in town, checking out gift shops and the amazing local heritage museum, and more. At around 1 pm, we decided it was time to get some lunch. It took us a while to land on just the right place. Trinidad Bay Eatery failed. We waited 15 minutes after being seated and never even got waters. We left. The Lighthouse Grill almost made the cut, but not quite what we were looking for. Finally, we landed on Seascape Restaurant, down on the water near the pier. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait to get seated when we arrived at about 2 pm. We were hungry, but judging by how busy this place was, we figured they must be good, so we got on the list. While waiting, we decided to take a walk down on the pier and onto the wooden dock. The dock floated rhythmically on the gentle pulsation of the ocean, giant rock monoliths popping out of the ocean floor only a few yards away. It was a nice way to spend a few minutes enjoying our natural surroundings while we waited. We headed back to the restaurant, and after about 15 more minutes we got seated. The restaurant is clean and very efficiently operated. The guy that was the host at the front end was running the place like clockwork. In addition to getting people on the list and getting people seated, he was keeping an eye on the patrons as well. If a table was missing waters or seemed to have a need, he was on it and directed the staff to take car of it. I was very impressed. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered a bottle of Salmon Creek Chardonnay from Sonoma (nice lower end wine but reasonably tasty - $18), a seafood platter (fried cod, sole, shrimp, and sea scallops with fries), and an authentic like-homemade New England-style clam chowder. We sat side by side, partners in seafood and wine, and enjoyed our meal looking out to the ocean and pier - $66 out the door with tip. Wonderful meal and worth the wait! Oh yeah! This is the spot! We visited Trinidad today, and what a quaint and serene little resort town. We walked on the beach and then decided to have lunch at Seascape Restaurant and Pier. The place was quite busy, yet the food was so so. Truly, there is nothing to write home about. The waitress was very kind and professional, but the patty melt was less than desirable, and the chicken sandwich was very dry. The fries and potato salad were decent. The people at the next booth were swatting flies, and the gentleman complained about his fish and chips stating he had a hard time cutting his fish. Maybe we ordered items that were not popular at the restaurant, but needless to say, we won't be returning. The 3rd star is given specifically for the location. read more

This place just felt right from the get go. Great location. Great view. Feels unique. Then you get inside and it feels comfortable. The ladies are nice and welcoming. The place itself feels like any diner you've ever been into. But it's not. It's open and bright even on an overcast day. And there is the view. A millón dollar view. Food was simple but great. Other than being overheated inside on a mildly cold day, this was a great place to have lunch after hiking Trinidad Head. The chowder was good, as was the service. My partner had a big shrimp Louie salad, and it was tasty as well. They had fun coffee mugs for sale as souvenirs, too, so that was fun. I also got a hat, for good measure. Would always recommend this, although again, turn down the heat, folks! Even if it was 30 degrees outside, room temp (68-72) is good enough. No need to leave the heater on at 80 degrees when it is only 50 or so outside! read more

Doesn't look like a restaurant but locals seem to like it and come here so we thought we'd try it out plus it had a great view of the Trinidad pier and ocean. As we walked in, instantly noticed how stuffy it was. But we were seated at the front of the restaurant near the entrance and the door was open so we got a nice view without the stuffiness. I then noticed all the flies flying around. They became annoying right away and then worse once our food arrived. Service was good but food and prices made it not worth it. My grilled cheese with shrimp was tasteless. The shrimp were tiny and tasted like they were frozen. Should have just ordered plain grill cheese. My husband ordered the mushroom burger (he was smart) and he said it was alright. The clam chowder was ok but nothing else was worth eating there. Not even the view. Very disappointing. Searing the flies in my face and over my food was annoying. What was worse was when they landed on my husbands shirt or on my shoulder or back. We couldn't wait to get out of there. read more
