Upon recommendation for a great burger, we came here to try the food. It was later in the day, about 7:30pm, two of us had the out and about burgers and, indeed, they were great! The meat was moist and tasty and well dressed with 1000 island, lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions. We got buns that had no sesame seeds, which did not disappoint us. I had the cheese and garlic fries. I thought they were a bit pricey, but the order was a decent sized portion that four of us shared. The garlic was sharp and tangy, and appeared to be raw. The cheese was more like a "nacho" cheese consistency. If I had to do it again, I would ask if there was an alternate type of cheese. The side salad was generous and fresh, with the standard dressing options (balsamic, ranch, honey mustard). We asked for the dressing on the side and they were okay with it. The cup of tomato basil soup was generous and tasty. This is an "order, pay, and pick up food" place. So, if you are eating in, have someone grab a table if it's crowded. We placed our orders, paid and gave a name for the order. We were later in the day, so there were tables available. Our name was called and we got up to pick up the food. There are metal forks and spoons (also plastic), napkins, and condiments across from the beverage machine. Burgers are served in baskets, the salads came in not-paper bowls, and the soup was in a melamine cup. The staff was friendly and efficient in an open seating set-up. Tried the food at Arcata Pizza and Deli today. Went with their seafood options and the fresh catch today was lingcod. Fish and chips were decent overall. Fish was panko breaded and fried which is different than the beer battered fried I'm used too. Fish could have used more seasoning and I like my fries a bit crispier. However portion sizes were good, with 2 large fish pieces and a ton of fries! Needed more than the 1 cup of tartar sauce for the amount of fish. Chimichurri fish sandwich was good. The Nashville chicken sandwich was alright, I've had better though I'd prefer it to be spicier but that's just me. The pizza is pretty good but kinda floppy if you like that, large slices. It was my first time at Arcata Pizza & Deli, and it will probably be my last. This visit was disappointing because of the customer service. I standing at the register making eye contact with the cashiers multiple times, but we were repeatedly ignored and never acknowledged just the two workers talking and laughing. The only reason I had to ask for help in the first place was because we weren't given plates or napkins with our order but directed where they should be --only to find there weren't any there either. Being overlooked like that made us feel unwelcome and frustrated. I hope they work on being more attentive to customers, because there wasn't good service. read more

Yummy spot for good food. Even with Oysterfest going on they had spots available and the food was on point. The pizza was such a big slice the kids couldn't believe it. They enjoyed it so much. This is a great spot for a college student looking for a quick bite they do pizza by the slice that is always hot and usually quick to get unless they are really busy (usually not). And if you're looking for a meal the fish and chips are really good freshly caught with that nice crispy plinko bread. APD is the GOAT when it comes to sandwiches and pretty much anything else on their menu. I was lucky enough to live a couple blocks away when they first opened and over 20 years later they still make the best food. I've tried almost everything and even when it wasn't to my normal taste preference it was good. I'm not a ham sandwich guy, but I'd eat and ham and cheese grinder from there anytime and be happy. The place is usually busy and sometimes there is a bit of a wait to order and more to get your food but it's worth the time and it's for good reason, they feed a lot of people some amazing food. The pizza and panzerotti is good too, but I generally stick to the sandwiches. Tipping is not just a city in China. Take care of these guys they deserve it read more

Next was the service - the man who took my order (I don't know his name) was nice, but the other guy, Jason, was not good at customer service. I came here on Christmas Eve on a whim while walking around the plaza and was surprised it was open. It was also the first time coming. There was one guy running the front taking orders. He was a bit slow but very friendly. My husband ordered the carnivore slice, I got a regular cheeseburger, my son got a kids cheese and we got a large fries to share. The slices of pizza are huge and the carnivore slice was loaded with meat and red onions. The cheeseburger was good, good amount of veggies and sauce. The fries were huge. I know I ordered a large but it looked like an extra large. Next time we can just a regular order to share. The seating inside was a little cramped. We got a table in the front corner thinking we'd be out of the way but the line got long quick and each time I got up (to get the food, refill drinks, use the restroom, etc) it was hard to get back to my table. We are grateful for this local business and their consistency. We don't go eat there often but we DoorDash it frequently. Tonight DoorDash was a good example of being able to do it well for delivery. They charge whatever they want - regardless of what the menu says. Menu says a Southwest burger is $10.25 and a Black bean burger is $10.25. I ordered a southwest burger tonight with a black bean patty. I ordered by phone. The person who answered didn't say anything about the price being different than what was on the menu. I picked up the order and discovered that they charged $4.50 more for this item -- 44% more than what the menu says! When I told the manager on duty that I'd never been charged this before, he noted that it was "their discretion" as to whether they'd charge the additional amount. He said the previous staff must have "done me a solid" by not charging it (translation: he would *not* be doing me a solid). There's no signage in the restaurant and no notes on the menu about additional charges for substitutions. There's no warning when you call in the order, and no willingness to understand how this whole situation is very misleading to the customer. Because they don't acknowledge or document this surcharge, it seems like the amount itself must also be up to "their discretion." Tonight it was a 44% surcharge. No idea what it'll be in the future. But I'll never know because I'll never go back and I'll warn everyone I know that they'll charge whatever they want with no warning. read more

Be careful of multiple charges! I paid for my order. The manager Maggie argued with me that it didn't go through. I showed her my phone confirmations. She wanted me to pay again! I refused and she told the kitchen to not make my order. Long story short, 4 days later the charge did show up on my credit card. I had to go out of my way to get a refund. And I will never ever forget the horrible customer experience provided by Maggie, one of the most incompetent managers I have ever met. read more

I've been here several times over the years and I really enjoy the atmosphere. The menu is off the hook So many choices Fish tacos are the best. I tried the arcata burger on this trip and was impressed. Meat was cooked perfectly bun was soft and delicious. I decided to get a bowl of their salmon chowder. We beat the afternoon rush and had a wonderful meal delightful service and enjoyed the ambiance of Arcata.

No matter what I order, I know that anything I eat from APD will be delicious. From their sandwiches and pizza to burgers and fries, their food is always flavorful and worth the somewhat pricier tag (think $7-$15 for most single items). APD is definitely not an everyday spot for me, but it's definitely a treat every time. One of the best deals on the menu is the Out and About burger with fries. Not only are these two items some of the most budget-friendly menu items, but the small serving of fries is enormous (you will have enough to share between two people...or not). The burger is reminiscent of an In-N-Out burger, so if you're craving one of those, order on up. The restaurant is small and packed most of the time. The staff is always friendly and ready to clarify anything on the menu that might include dairy/gluten/etc. The last time I visited APD they made sure I was able to have my black bean burger lettuce-wrapped, and I appreciated the steps they took to ensure that my dietary restrictions weren't overlooked. I ordered from here for the first time tonight. I was excited to see the pesto tofu sandwich as I've been a vegetarian since I was a kid and often have a hard time finding food items that I can eat without drastically modifying it. However, the tofu was so sad... that I had to remove it from the sandwich and throw it away. In my 20+ years as a vegetarian I have never had tofu in this final form. It was hard as a rock on the edges and the inside/middle was almost sponge-like with holes in it. (Close up pic attached. Quality is poor... sorry!) When I took the tofu out I examined it more, noticing holes on the outside as well... once again, like a sponge. I'm so confused over this, but if anyone wants this sandwich I suggest removing the tofu and adding avocado. The 2 stars is for being open late and for the side of fries I ordered. In general, I detest seasoned/battered fries, and somehow the seasoned/battered fries are some of the best French Fries of anytype that I've had. The crust here is much chewier than at Paul's Live From New York which uses a thin and crispy crust. The true NYC slice is somewhere between the two.
