I debated whether tro give this place two or three stars. 2.5 would be right. The queso was obviously canned, the salsa verde runny and bland. I ordered fish tacos. I loved that they were grilled and not deep-fried. I judge any new Mexican place on fish tacos or chiles relenos. First the good: Very fresh fish (you can hide poor fish with frying but not grilling) fresh veggies (it came with avacado and tomato slices; not at all mealy) Now the bad: The fish was completely flavorless. Other than seeing the blackening spice I couldn't tell at all it was there. The jalapeno sauce it came with was excellent but there was almost none in the tacos. I actually tasted it with a finger because I was intrigued by it in the menu description but I never got a mouthful on any bite. Maybe guac would have added some flavor instead of plain avacado slices. Freshness A+ but flavor gets an F. My wife had me try a piece of her steak from the fajitas and that was EXCELLENT. I wsa told by my mother-in-law that it's what they're known for. Very tender, nice bite of lime from the tequila-lime marinade. I wish I had known. I give two stars because my meal was bland at best. But since my inlaws love the place (because of the beef, obvious to me now) I will be back, I'm sure. I'll order chiles relenos because I have to (they do it right, though, just monterey jack in a poblano) Friendly, prompt service, btw. They get an A for that. I have visited this restaurant on 2 separate occasions. I tried different entrees both times. Food had great flavor. Service was good too.

The cheese sauce was velveta, or worse. My husband's meal was good but we won't return. Also the dining room was FREEZING.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I went about 6:30 in the evening. Service was slow af. We eventually flagged down a waiter from the other side of the restaurant for our order. Food came...terrible. ZERO seasoning in the ground meat. I asked to speak to a manager. He tried to argue with me about the meat being unseasoned. Terrible attitude toward customer service. We left. If you like bland flavorless Mexican food then this is your place. I gave this restaurant a couple of tries but they just couldn't compare to mi rancho. Alicia's food has no flavor. Prices are a little high for what you get. Their chips and salsa are mediocre. There's just no way I'm going to settle for bland Mexican food. I know it goes against all that is holy to venture into a Mexican restaurant and order an entree without cheese, but given that I like to live on the edge, I decided to do just that on a recent afternoon. It was 2:00 on a weekday with only 2 other tables occupied, so I figured my odds were fairly good. WRONG! First, I asked the waiter to sub Vegetables for the chicken in the enchiladas rancheras. Apparently, they've never had such a request (seriously?), so he had to ask the manager, who then sent him to ask the chef. Finally, he came back and said they could do it...for an extra $2 charge. I agreed, and told the waiter 3 times NO CHEESE. Sadly, when my entree arrived, it was covered in cheese. I reminded the waiter of my request for "no cheese" and he promptly took my entree back to the kitchen, apologizing for the hassle and repeating my request for NO CHEESE. When my entree returns, I cut into it and find that the cheese, previously blanketing the outside of my enchiladas, is now on the INSIDE. By now, I'm aggravated. Thank goodness for those $5 jumbo margaritas which helped to lessen my frustration. This time, when I called the waiter back over to the table, he apologized again, but basically said they wouldn't be able to fulfill my request for an entree with no cheese. Seriously? You can't make an entree without cheese? I decided to just cry uncle and eat my husband's guacamole while he devoured his fajitas. When he was finished with his meal, the "manager" finally came to the table and said she had just heard of the trouble and offered to make me something else. Uhhh, gee? No thanks; we're finished now and ready to leave. "You can take it to go," she offers. Sorry, but I came here to enjoy lunch with my husband not to get a meal "to go." As I said, the place was empty. She could have easily come to the table and remedied this situation, but clearly she couldn't be bothered. Too little, too late I'm afraid. There are way, WAY too many other choices for Tex Mex in this area to even think about giving this place another shot. read more

Just another large chain feeling Houston Mexican restaurant. I wouldn't say anything too amazing about the food except that it wasn't too bad. Salads are limited with mostly iceberg lettuce options. Decent amount of seafood on the menu if you like that but not sure about the freshness. Drinks were average at most and seemed weak/sugary (for a margarita). This place can be very loud depending on where they sit you so get your screaming voice ready if you want to talk much during your dinner on a popular night. read more

Been going to this place for years, and today I ordered guacamole which cost $5.95 and they give me one scoop of guacamole on top of lettuce and tomato. I could have gotten that at Chipotle for three bucks. the cashier had a nasty attitude when I asked her about it and the manager was unwilling to admit there was a mistake. nowhere on the menu does it state that your guacamole would be on top of lettuce and tomato. With so many Mexican food restaurants to choose from in the area, it helps if you have some interesting items on your menu...like Alicia's chicken. Great subtle variations in their menu set them apart from their competitors and you will enjoy the selection. Prices are moderate. Food is good and quality and you're welcomed with a plentiful supply of chips and sauce. There are two different seating areas. The back area by the bar is usually put up by on a late evening. The bar area is pretty neat and they show sporting events for those of you who are interested in that kind of thing. Not a bar feel to it though at all. read more

This was our 4th visit in one year. Hubby and I opted for a quiet lunch at 2 pm after the rush figuring it would be quiet for once. NOT!! Banging of pots, pans, dishes, kids singing somewhere in the back. (There was one other booth with 2 people and a few in the back room near us.) We were seated promptly. Drinks brought promptly. Chips and salsa came and we had to ask for the green dip (which tasted and looked watered down - I think I wore most of it). Ordered and then went through 2 bowls of chips and 2 sets of sauces waiting. When lunch came, My "Alambres" (Shish kabobs with beef tenderloin, shrimp, bacon, mushrooms, onions, red and green bell peppers, grilled and served over a bed of rice in its own juices with charro beans and sliced avocados) was lukewarm and they completely forgot my charro beans. I asked for my meat to be M-Rare to medium - It was well done, tiny slices that were so salty from a marinade that was all you could taste. The shrimp were itty-bitty and overdone as well and NONE of the veggies on skewer looked grilled and were crunchy as in raw. The bacon turned out to be 4 chunks of FAT from a ham and there was no juices in the plate - very dry. I don't think they grilled any of it. Shredded lettuce and tomato and 4 avocado half slices were on side. A cold, bland, salty disappointment. My husbands fajita's didn't look grilled either and tasted just like my meat - salty marinade that overwhelmed everything. Yuck! At least his was on a hot platter so it was hot and the veggies softened. He received his charro beans but they were not tasty and we both left it. I was almost finished before anyone came and asked me about our meal. I showed the waitress (then the waiter) the chunks of fat. He asked if I wanted more meat. I told him no thanks, it doesn't taste good, too salty and we are almost finished. He asked what he could do and I said you can reduce the cost of my dinner for the lack of meat. It would have been nice if he noticed that I never got my beans. The manager was nice enough to comp the platter. Our last 2 experiences were much the same. We returned hoping that someone had noticed and corrected these things. It is a shame as it's a nice place - the first time we had gone the service was better and the meat and all the sides were delicious. We will not be going back. read more

The food is almost always very good. There are times the quesadillas are loaded with meat and other days there is barely any. The service is almost always slow, whether they are busy or not. By far some of the best tortilla soup, guacamole and shrimp cocktails in Spring. Salsa is good but the chips are overdone half the time. Went to Alicia's for the first time last night and it was good... Good Food, Good Service, Good Atmosphere, Good Value what more could you ask for? I had the Enchiladas de Carnitas and they were delicious my diner partner ordered an enchilada combination that was off menu and was greeted by the waiter with no problem that is easy. The service was prompt, attentive and friendly. The restaurant décor is beautiful not the normal Mexican restaurant with year around Christmas lights and strange combinations of color and velvet paintings. Alicia's is with out a doubt the best Mexican Restaurant in the Spring area. read more

First timer here. Me and the hubby got a parillada mixto with beef. The shrimp were huge! You get two per guest on that plate and at first I was like wtf that's it? I live across the road from this place and want to like it so much selfishly because it's so convenient but alas this place is a distant cousin to the Alicia's on 290! First and foremost the service was very average at best!! I was embarrassed at having to wave to get attention and resorted to going to the bar directly to get drinks. Menu items were missed off our order (to be fair they deducted from our check) The room was 30% full at 7.30pm but we were restaurant outcasts.... The food itself was uninspiring and like most tex-mex restaurants in the growing area they are very proud of their prices without it being indicative in the food quality and service! I benchmark against Gringos - 7 miles away but definitely worth the effort to drive there - too many mom and pop restaurants cheaper and better around here to motive me returning! On a positive their fajita beef was very tasty. Well 730 on Wednesday night service is slow When we received our chips it was just crumbs not even large enough to scoop the watered down salsa. Beef nachos al carbon were average. Beef fajitas taste like they were marinated in a salt and lime marinade. Too much salt to finish the meal even the refried beans were salty. Just had the new steak Alicia's. Ordered medium, received medium-rare: perfect. Asked for the veggie medley in stead of beans, perfect again: carrots "al dente" and a healthy mix of other veggies. Next time I am going to ask for pepper crusted steak and more cognac-peppercorn sauce (thicker than I would make it; very tasty). Steak is served on a bed of spinach. About a 4+ year regular that will no longer go back. It is not the same place anymore. Bartender's are inconsistent from one to the other with the size of the drinks and what they charge you. I don't expect to get a break for being a regular, but I was being charged 4 different ways by 4 different people. The food is just plain bland. No flavor. Like the Denny's of Mexican food. Don't ask for your filet mignon or ribeye to be anything but well done, because that is what your going to get. The GM once told me, "Mexicans don't know how to cook steaks any other way but well done." Really? At Happy Hour they will put out queso, chips, and some fried chicken flautas.. but they're cold! Finally, after watching a bartender over-serve some idiots and when they used loud and profane language for everyone in the bar to hear, many female customers asked for the checks and left. When I said something politely to these "gentlemen" to lower their voices and if they didn't want the place to become a "sausage bar" then maybe they should no cuss so much. I was then told to STFU and invited to step outside to fight. Really?! The bartender should have cut them off and when I asked a manger to intervene, the GM ask the drunken a-holes, "Is there anything I can do for you?" instead of, "Hey guys, you're more than welcome back, but you are being loud and chasing my customers away, so I need you to go!" Obviously, over-serving the customers to get as much as they can on their bar tab is a high priority to the mgmt team there. Not the quality and consistency of their food or safety of any of their customers... Even the drunken a-holes that could have killed somebody on the way home. I'm done with Alicia's. I've only been here once, but the fajitas, tortilla soup, queso, and salsa were all pretty good to me! It's not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it was at least a 4/5 and the place was clean and well lit. The service was fast, even if it wasn't the most friendly. It got the job done, anyway. =) read more
