Absolutely beautiful! The people are so kind who work here. They actually talk to you and want to make your food and drinks the way you want it. The place is very clean, there's outdoor and indoor seating. There's a variety of homemade pastries. The breakfast sandwich is perfect to share if you're not that hungry or even a half for yourself! They have apparel for all ages. I love the wood theme and the views from outside the sugar shake are phenomenal. Mikayla is the best! She's so friendly and goes over and beyond. We've been coming here for years. I believe they switched owners and since then the place has gone down hill. The morning offerings of muffins, croissants, scones, and cinnamon rolls has failed me. I will say the sandwiches are decent, but nothing to write home to. The smoothies used to epic, but they now fall flat. I'm think they are not using all the fruit as the old owners did. As for the staff....a little rude and it seemed like no one wanted to wipe the tables down. It's a cute place, but if I had a choice I would skip it and seek life elsewhere for some morning substance. read more

We've been coming here for years and years and it is always more than a treat! The employees are awesome, the coffee is so good and all the pastries are amazing, especially love the wheat free motherlode cookies. The breakfast burritos are hands down the best I have ever had; love the way they toast the outside on all sides after they roll up the yummy fillings. The food I have to say is pretty good. Haven't had anything I dislike from here. My only problem would have to be the unprofessionalism from the workers and how rude and argumentative they are/come across to those simple trying to order. It would just be good to consider educating the staff on hospitality skills, and customer service skills and how to become an example of the face you want your business to be. Which I would assume is to build a positive reputation. And having customers leave with a not only a smile on their face but an amazingly positive experience at this establishment. The cutest little bakery and coffee shop! We stopped in on the way to run some errands in need of coffee. The inside was so cozy with wood floors, wood tables and even a little fireplace. They had an entire glass case full of pastries from savory items to different types of streusels. They also offer breakfast items such as different types of Egg Benedicts and sandwiches. We ordered a Cinnamon Roll which was massive, soft and not too sweet. We also ordered 2 Eggnog Lattes which weren't too sweet either and you can could still taste the coffee which I love. Visiting the area, I found Alice's Sugar Shack on Yelp. The photos of the gourmet pastries caught my eye. Not bland, mass-produced food that's now common in many bakeries or cafés, these looked lovingly made with quality ingredients. We headed over for breakfast the other day and the food captivated us! The raspberry chocolate chip streusel...I had to buy them all to savor them in the following days. The strawberry almond/marzipan scone....I bought the last one and wished there were more left! My friend got the club sandwich, and that was so tasty and fresh! The flavors "popped." I know this because we'd just had another club sandwich the previous day, which was alright, but nothing like the freshness of this one. Now I just wish I could somehow teleport there a few times a week, or have deliveries across the state. Not realistic, but it would be nice! read more

All were so good but the blueberry pastry was extra yummy! We also got the triple high club sandwich to take with us into Yosemite. Been coming here for over 10 years and it's only improved over time. They also serve the best scones I've ever had -- not dry and a good variety of flavors daily. Very cozy atmosphere and a great selection of homemade pastries, both sweet and savory, as well as just about every coffee drink you can imagine. As a hungry and slightly carsick Bay Area person heading to Mammoth- this cute coffee lodge was a godsend. Staff/counter folks seem a little overwhelmed/jaded by the tourists and had a bit of an assembly line approach, but very efficient. Can vouch for how delicious and decadent the blueberry cheesecake muffin is! Restroom and nice outdoor picnic space under the trees were all very nice. Was wondering why someone stuck newspaper on the table and quickly found out it was for the very nosy wasp/bee friends. read more

My family and I have been in Twain Harte for the past five years and there are many reason why we continue to stay here. We love the people, the atmosphere, and the small-town kindness. That's why I was excited to try Sugar Shack with my girlfriend for the first time today. Unfortunately, our experience didn't reflect the warmth and hospitality that Twain Harte is known for. When we walked in, there was just one person ahead of us. The cashier who was the tall gentleman with dark hair and glasses was at the register. After waiting patiently, a man who seemed to be a regular walked directly in front of me and began ordering. The cashier clearly saw that I had been waiting and saw that I was cut in line, yet he said nothing and continued taking the other customer's order. More people came in and formed a line to the left side of the counter. I only learned that the line was supposed to form on the left because other locals told me which is something I never would have known otherwise. When I finally got to the register, the cashier mentioned the "line system," but did so rudely and without any apology. He even muttered something under his breath, which left me feeling embarrassed and frustrated as a first-time customer who was just trying to figure out how things worked. You would think that a place that gets a lot of visitors would help customers by explaining the process or even putting up a simple sign. Instead, I stood there being ignored while regulars explained the system and not the staff. At no point did anyone acknowledge the confusion or offer an apology. My girlfriend and I left without ordering because no one should feel unwelcome when they're simply trying to support a local business. We love Twain Harte and everything this town represents, and this is not the kind of business culture that fits here. Small towns thrive on kindness, respect, and community. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we cannot recommend Sugar Shack. We hope the business chooses to treat newcomers with the same warmth that makes Twain Harte special. read more

Traveled from forty minutes away to try this place for breakfast. I had heard great things. Unfortunately there was a weird vibe from the service aspect. The staff seemed a bit off from the get go. There was quite a bit of conversation going on in the kitchen loudly also the girl bringing out the food was quite short with a large attitude. Alycia's sugar shack is easy to miss as you drive-by on Highway 108 in Miwok Village. Thank goodness we didn't. This place is a gem. A high Ciara treasure. The pastries and baked goods are beautiful and delicious. And the breakfast options are out of this world. I had the sugar pine Benedict. Trust me just order it. It's gonna knock your socks off. Even though we came in later in the day they had a lot of pastries to chose from. We got two mocha coffees they were not overly sweet they were perfect almost had a dark chocolate taste. We got two pastries on our way out of town. They have a full breakfast menu and healthy fruit bowl smoothies. The pastries were a good size and crispy but soft. They have a lot of non dairy options which I love! Everyone was super friendly and the cashier even grabbed an additional basket of pastries for us to chose from. Pastries are freshly made and they will happily warm it up for you. Loved the blueberry scones, cinnamon rolls, hot Ruben sandwich and Biscuit & Gravy ( next time I'll ask for gravy on side ). Staff is very efficient, friendly and very genuine. They seem to know their customers and if they don't they genuinely welcome you. Inside has customized four wooden tables bit cozy especially when there is a line. But I still enjoyed the energy . The cutest little café in the mountains. Delicious pastries, fast internet, delicious breakfast burritos, delicious coffee and great service. The sugar shake offers inside and outside tables. The inside has wood tables, wood floors and a fire place. Definitely the perfect cozy feel whether you are picking up a coffee or pastry on a snowy morning or a cooler summer morning. Would recommend the sugar shake 1000 times. One thing to note that it does get busy so my recommendations would be to go in the morning to avoid the crowds. read more

The Misto Cubano sandwich was really good. The was a young blond girl that placed our first order and she was adorable, super friendly and sweet. However,my son wants to get a desert so we went to the cashier again and at this time it was a tall guy with glasses and dark hair that helped us. He was absolutely rude and had no manners. My son asked for a specific cheesecake muffin on the window because it was more cooked and golden on top, the guy replied with "you get what I give to you, my friend." Then I said politely: could he please have the one he mentioned because it is more golden. He took the muffin and slammed it to the counter. Then I asked if he had a spoon so my son could eat the cheesecake and he said " please " I didn't even had the chance to say it.
