This guy Vince is the owner of Ali'i Coins, and I've been coming to his shop for several years as a customer. Just recently gone through some tough times and needed to sell some of my collection, and suddenly he acts like he hasn't seen me before. HE IS VERY RUDE AND IMPATIENT. He also low balls and undergrades coins to give himself a good deal and rip off the selling customer. Yes he is knowledgeable, but to his advantage only. SELLERS BEWARE! Vince offered me less than a hundred dollars on a coin that was book valued about $600; he said there were imperfections and it would be hard to sell. Long story short, I took the same coin to Honolulu Stamp and Coin on Bishop Street and they paid me $400. HUGE difference. Vince also offered me five dollars (yes, $5) for a dozen or so coins book valued over $100. This guy will rip you off and takes advantage of people who are in need of cash (most people who come to sell, face rough times and are just trying to pay a bill or some of their rent and don't really want to part with their coins; like myself). SERIOUSLY, stay away from this guy if you need to sell you are better off trying online to private collectors. Higher end stuff, take it to Honolulu Stamp and Coin because you will be better paid for your investment; they also take time to explain the history of the coins and love to talk about currency, history, and US history! And Vince at Ali'i will not take time to explain anything about coins and if he does, it's like pulling teeth. He is very unpleasant and just bad negative energy. The silent auction boards are one of my favorite things about the shop though, some of the most interesting things get posted for sale up there. I have been collecting silver for a while now and decided to sell it off to pay some bills. I work downtown Honolulu on Alakea Street but doing business with the town "coin buyer stores" has never been a pleasant experience. My friend and coworker always tells me you have to go to Allii Coins and check it out. So even though I am literally one street away from a coin buying store I packed up my silver and drove over to Alii Coins. The day before I drove down there I called the store and discussed my situation and the store owner said to come on in. Well, true to his word he remembered my call and we got to business. In a very professional manner he set up each purchase separately to break it down. I thought we would be there for hours. But in a very professional way, he checked the prices and spot price and came up with a very fair price. I am very happy with the manner in which our transaction occured.
