We got a notice from the dealer that it was time to go in for our 65 or 75,000 mile service and the dealership was really pushy and overly aggressive for just a routine service. So I figured OK let's just call Ali's schedule a time to go in and they'll let us know what needs to be done now and what should be done soon. So we pull up on a Saturday afternoon where they should be busy and they relatively are but they had time to address us let us know it would be about 45 minutes before they could finish and go grab a cuppa coffee at the street. We have a cup of coffee and a nice danish come back they're totally done scheduled out services and everything is upfront and it's amazing how they do exactly what they said they were going to do. Initially I spoke to this shop about my car because my boss had his vehicle there for a bunch of stuff. I went in to check on his vehicle, and decided to feel them out about my own car as I needed a few things checked out/repaired. They were very nice, and they seemed to be knowledgeable when I asked questions. They also portrayed that they are affordable, fair. I was thinking this could be the shop I've been looking for! My boss asked me to pick up his vehicle a couple weeks later, I had just purchased headlight assembly replacements for my car and thought I'd just leave my car at Ali's to have my headlights replaced when I picked up my employers vehicle. The front number needed to be removed to replace the headlights, I just did not have a place to do all that or I would have done it myself. Unfortunately I did not bother to ask for an estimate to have this done, which was my bad. I feel like an idiot now for sure. When I got there to pick my car up, I was presented with a $650.00 bill. $650.00 you read that right. To install headlights that i provided. I was flabbergasted to say the least. I was by no means expecting a bill that big, to have this done. Not to mention a place that charges that much, and the headlights are NOT EVEN ALIGNED? When I turn them on, there is zero indication that the lights are on. Off or on is exactly the same visually. Brights, I can tell they are on, but One is aiming up, the other is off to the right. I absolutely cannot see any better at night, which was the goal. As hard as it was to see before they were changed, now it's like they are not even on. It's like they put in garbage bulbs, did not bother doing an alignment on the lights. I am risking my life as well as others as a result of this. Seriously. I have since called several shops that choked when I told them what I was charged to have this done. They did take a half hour of labor off thinking that would fix my feelings. Unfortunately that was a joke. I cannot express my disappointment enough. Hopefully I won't run over any pedestrians or wreck my car as a result of zero lights at night. After spending a grand trying to improve my lights and it's even worse......unbelievable. read more

I was so unpleased with my experience at Ali's Bellevue Auto Repair that I had to make a Yelp account and leave my first ever review. Dishonest and rude. I went in for a quote on exhaust leak repair. Was provided a quote and they left out several major damaged components on the quote leading me to believe the repair would be cheaper than it actually came out to. When I pointed this out they said it was "not their fault" because the damaged pipe that they FAILED to bring to my attention was "too hard to see" on the initial inspection??? I had work done at Ali's based on an initial inspection/repair quote that was NOT ACCURATE. When asking how we could work this out the owner talked to me very condescending, told me to be quiet and let him talk, and had no solution, only 2.5 additional hours of labor - and an extra part - I was expected to pay for that was not originally reported to me and I had to find out after calling them several times, not to mention they did not return my calls and I had to initiate the call every interaction. Ali's essentially tried to do a half-ass inspection and then upsell me on the stuff they did not mention in the quote. Would not recommend doing business because they will probably tell you the work is "too hard" and charge you for more labor. read more

Did the job fast, but expensive! Had a check engine light which according to my own OBD analyzer turned out to be a Cylinder 1 misfire and catalytic converter sub-par performance warning (a very common issue). The work done was to change a spark plug and a coil (which I could change myself but I simply did not have the time to do that operation that day). Cost was above $700 which included a near $200 diagnostic cost, despite me already diagnosing the car with a professional OBD tool I already own (a top-of-the-line iCarSoft tool). I am OK for the shop to charge something for diagnostics but $200 just to run some diagnostics without even opening the car is a bit excessive. Overall felt quite a bit expensive to charge over $700 for a simple sparkplug/coil change (which is probably one of the easiest fixes that anyone a bit experienced can do if they have one hour to spend, and proper tools) but on the positive side I had the car done at the end of the day. read more

My car broke down while I was driving it home from work and Ali's was right across the street. I brought my car there having no idea what to expect. All the staff I talked to were so nice and friendly and not once did I feel talked down to (being a woman in an auto repair shop). The transmission in my car was malfunctioning. The mechanics at Ali's took a look at it and let me know all of my options in a very clear way before moving forward. They even Let me know about a recall through the car manufacturer that could save me thousands of dollars! *BEWARE* Ali's shop was an absolute disgrace with a nice smile. I stopped in one morning as my turn indicator switch broke on my way to work causing my left signal to stay on constantly not allowing for the right turn indicator to work. I went to Ali's Bellevue Auto Repair and he was kind enough to come and look at my car. Then he said he would get me an estimate and would be happy to do the work that day. I was excited..... UNTIL.... he wanted almost $400 to fix my car. He was charging $200 for the part (which I bought from an auto part store for $70) and wanted $110 per hour for labor which he said would take around 1.5 hours to fix but he may need my car for 3 hours. Taken back by the price I asked if for a temp fix as I did not want to be a danger on the road with my one blinker on and I could use hand signals for the remainder of the day time. I asked if I could pull the fuse and he said no that one is connected to your break lights so that wont work. I then asked if I could simply pull the bulbs and he said well it will be 30 to remove each of them and 30 to put each of them back and the labor time so it would be expensive. I then thanked him for his time and left to the gas station next door where I removed the fuse and checked the break lights AND they were fine. After work I picked up a new turn signal switch for $70 ..... then I removed 5 SCREWS AND 15 MINUTES LATER IT WAS FIXED. I find it hard to believe a reputable honest shop would mark up the part by more than 2x's cost of retail and also try to over charge the labor fees substantially. I completely understand mark up and needing to cover overhead but at this extreme..... if I could fix this in under 15 minutes then I would assume an experienced mechanic could do it even quicker. This is not simply covering overhead it is COMPLETELY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A PERSON. I felt extremely appalled by the willingness this shop had to take advantage of someone when their company states they are an honest company. I dont know much about fixing cars but I do know when a company is trying to take advantage of someone and that is not right. read more

Being new to the area its hard to know where to go for good services. I chance upon Ali's on the internet having recently bought a used european car. While most of the auto shop's I've called charge about $50-$60 fee upfront for a car inspection without even seeing the car. Ali's method is something like "Let's check the car first and we'll go through what it needs" They were very accomodating at the shop, worked really thorough and fast even if there are alot of customers during my appointment. They walked me through the checks they did for my car explaining them in simple engish given that I am not well versed in mechanic language. Prioritized what is needed for my car and told me what things to look out for in the future. They never push me to buy or do something to the car. They even waived their service fee seeing that not much work is needed for my car. I will definitely recommend their shops (Bellevue & Woodinville) to friends! read more

I took my car (less than 10,000 miles 2017 VW GTI) back in either February or March of this year here after I had hit a curb to avoid a driver who cut me off in the rain. The car was running and moving OK when I brought it, other than some weird sounds caused by the bearings being damaged. They "repaired" the damage and sent me on my way. I ended up driving around for a while until 2 months ago, when I started having a lot of shaking going on in my car, caused by the wheel that was damaged rotating off-axis. It turns out, the rim was bent! It looked like they had put some spacers between the rim and the nuts to make it drive straight (There's less dirt/mud buildup on the threads on one of the studs than on the others) that seem to have fallen off. I had to got the rim replaced. I can't say exactly what Ali's had done, but I definitely wasn't told I had a bent rim, and it seems like they did a "cheap" (~$600) repair without notifying me of the issue. I got the rim replaced (Another $550), and it seemed fine. I took it to a better shop and told them exactly what I needed done, since I'd already found the issue. Fast forward to a week ago, and the bearing I already paid $600 for Ali's to replace was damaged AGAIN, so I took it back in to get that bearing replaced. The damage was caused by the wheel rotating off-axis. My phone also wouldn't connect to android auto after I got it back - I called them to ask if they'd done anything to the car media system, but the swore they didn't touch it. I ended up spending an hour trying to diagnose it, and they had actual pinched the USB connector (On the male end) and forced it back into the female end in the car, damaging the port. Luckily I'm pretty good with a soldering iron and had a spare female port lying around from some circuitry I'd been working on, so I fixed it myself. So, at the start, I needed a replaced bearing AND replaced rim, which should have cost $1,150. Because they never actually fixed the rim, I had to spend an extra $600 to replace the bearing again. If I could afford the time and definitively prove that they'd messed up my car, I'd take Ali's to small claims court and get my $600 back (+ the cost of my time fixing the USB port). This was clearly negligence or some kind of communication error on their part for not telling me of the issue. read more

I don't usually consider any establishment worthy of a 5 as any business can improve, however Ali's Bellevue Auto Repair is worthy of the highest praise. I took my VW Cabrio in here after having a bad tech do some work, as well as a few finishing touches from a clutch swap. My work requires I have a car, so it was important that the work get done or that I at least know the costs so I could decide whether fixing it was even worth it. They did all I asked for and more. And they did it all for an honest cost. In fact this is the only Auto repair shop I did not feel ripped off at. I felt that they had integrity and honesty, as well as highly skilled techs. About 2 weeks after my car got out of the shop I had a major car issue that was left from an unprofessional Auto tech (not from Ali's). They got me right in to mend the issue and got it done pretty damn fast considering how catastrophic the issue was. If you have an Auto Repair need then I would absolutely recommend Ali's to you. It's rare to see a good small business like this anymore, especially here in Seattle and the Eastside as a whole. read more

I had never ever chat with a manager or owner as I did on Tues. He apologize about being late for my car to be ready, since they close at 1730 hrs. **BEWARE, REVIEWS WERE NOT WRONG*** Felt completely taken advantage of by this place. Upon coming to this shop I had already had a diagnostic done that the starter in my car had gone out, so upon arriving I told them what the problem was and just needed the ONE issue, the starter to be resolved and declined the "diagnostic" fee as I had already had someone else look at and confirmed my suspicions were in fact correct. When I had called in asking if I could bring my car in, I was quoted a price on the phone for PARTS + LABOR to be $400 approximately. Was not what I was hoping to have to deal with that day but knowing my car cannot drive without it I agreed to go through with the work. However...fast forward to a $1400 bill. Was told on the phone call when they had finally gotten to work on my car and performed the $79 diagnostic fee/work that they found my "brakes were bad" (even though I had declined this diagnostic service, I guess they just do it anyway and then charge you for it). Exactly was told: 1mm on front brakes and 2 mm on back brakes and therefore so unsafe it needed to be worked on immediately. Also tried to gouge me for a new battery saying it was bad and needed to be replaced ASAP. The only thing I could grapple with at the time was perhaps getting the front brakes done that were "1mm" and would have to address the rest at another time. When I got down to the shop to pick up my car, the paperwork told me a much different story than what I was told over the phone. The paperwork had much different numbers of how "bad" the brakes were- 2mm on front and 3mm on back was what the paper actually told me from the technition which makes me think they just try to scare you over the phone to think this is such a DIRE circumstance to be addressed immediately, probably so you won't take it elsewhere and actually seek a fair price quote- or find out you don't need work done at all! I declined getting a new battery put in, even though I was assured mine was bad. After I picked it up and took it somewhere else, my suspicions were correct in that my battery was completely fine, verified by two different places, which makes me even more firm in my belief this place is just in to scam people into doing services they don't need and charge an absurd amount for... which brings me to my final disappointment. Inspecting my final statement further, the part itself for the starter, THE ORIGINAL REASON I CAME IN I was charged $400 for, not even including labor. I looked up even the best possible top of the line starter if I was to pick up the exact same one at an auto parts store and it was about $240. Not sure where the other $160 went (assuming they bought the absolute best top of the line one, which I am sure they did not) but that is a pretty insane markup. I called back after I had a chance to thoroughly inspect my pricing statement and how changing a starter in a vehicle and 1/2 of a brake change could be so much, especially when I had the issue diagnosed before I even set foot in the building and asked for the brand of the part that was used for the starter, as maybe that could give some justification as to why it was $400 for a part that is absolutely not that much anywhere else. I sat on hold for 20+ min while they were "trying to find this information" until I lost patience and had to hang up so I could get back to work. Figured there would be a call back at some point with the answer, considering I had just been in there and they absolutely had my call back number as they had trouble finding this information for some reason, and has now been 2 weeks and nothing. So not sure why it takes 2 weeks to get an answer as to what part you put in my vehicle, but it seems sketchy to say the least to not know that info. Cherry on top of it all... went to Les Schwab literally down the street from this place and asked for a ballpark quote on what brakes should cost to replace and it was a fraction of the cost, so I definitely got price gouged left and right here. To pour salt on the wound, they told me my back brakes (which I was almost talked into getting replaced as well but so glad I said no) were fine, a little worn but nothing to be too concerned about, which makes me wonder if my front brakes were even that bad at all, or I was just another person to take advantage of. Extremely disappointed with my experience here. I know running a business must be tough, but if your last resort is to violate your customers and bleed them dry financially to your benefit with shady schemes then perhaps it is time to close your doors. You should be ashamed of yourselves, and this is the EXACT reason people feel they cannot trust mechanics, which you have perfectly perpetuated that stereotype. Thank you for proving to me where I should not take my business nor car concerns in the future for risk of tip-toing into an even bigger financial trap and waste of time. I had the opportunity to get the car in today and they did a great job; they even squeezed me in on short notice. Having grown up with several friends and family engaged in various sectors of the automotive industry, I always find myself paying close attention to how a shop performs when I am in for a visit. I would like to give -1000000 stars if yelp allows me to. We dropped the car off on a Sunday after accidentally filled up the tank with diesel by our occasional driver. We wrote on the envelope what to be done exactly, drain the diesel and fill up with proper gas. On Monday when we called them several times, the owner refused to let us know what work they have been doing to that car until everything is done, despite of what was written on the envelope. Instead they "clean the fuel lines" and "replace the tank" which are definitely not necessary to our knowledge, and they charge us a fortune of over $400 for this. We voiced out our concerns and we have proof what was written on the envelope, in his exact words, he said "If you are not paying for this, you are not getting your car back." When we drove the car home, we noticed the road that we drove on had a trail of gas(not dripping, but flowing). This is the most ridiculous place that I have ever been to. We should have just fixed it ourselves and it would cost us a lot less. read more

I had my Audi A3 serviced here on 08/09/2016, I was debating between 3-5 other yelp suggestions but I opted here because the person I talked with Stephanie was very knowledgeable. I personally like to fix my car if I can, but when I did a little research about fault code P0299 Turbo underboost and it was showing the wastegate actuator was to be replaced, I went underneath my car and try to see where it is and figured the wastegate was deep in the engine and is hard to access. So this is when I accepted (defeat ;) and get the car repaired. Long story short I did my little researched and have to swallow my humble pill due to my limited knowledge on the engine. So I brought my car to Ali's Bellevue auto repair. After ~3 hours Stephanie from Ali called me to explain that the problem was really not the wastegate, nor its the turbo but its the Turbo Cut OFF Valve. They did explain about the diagnostic charges ($129) and cost of labor per hour ($115) and parts ($135). So all of those are cleared and I will be spending $400 for the repair, with the 10% discount already included from coupon I got from them in FB. I requested Stephanie to please take a photo of the wastegate actuator, this is to justify the decision I made about it being really deep in the engine , and I was not wrong on where the waste gate is.Now about the photo, it seems the technician forgot to take photo or she said it was not a good quality photo, or she saved it somewhere where she could not find it. But I was insistent that it is for me so she asked the team to pull the car back in and raise my audi back up and show where the wastegate was. So this is +1 for them. Now she gave me the replacement part which is the turbo cutoff valve That is also very good. However when I saw where the part is installed and it is really very easy to access (once underneath the car, This is when I felt bad, coz It is very accessible, and it is an easy 10-15 minutes work for me to unscrew maybe 2-3 screws.. This is more of my mistake coz I could/should have asked them just to diagnose and not replace the part (I am charged $129). They sold me the turbo cutoff valve for $135 which is available for $55 in amazon. And I got charged an extra $115 for the 1 hour labor that can only be done in 15 minutes max. So I could have just spend $185 instead of $400! But its lesson learned for me, I hope this helps you fellow yelpers. I just wished Ali reduced the labor fee as I already paid for the diagnostic ($129) and that it really is not that hard to replace the Turbo Cut off valve especially for people who like to do a little DIY car maintenance. Stephanie did say normally they put in the labor job fee in the diagnostic but in this case I feel they opted NOT and and let me just pay them more... TL,DR; just get an auto shop to diagnose properly and if you can get the replacement part and find out how easy/hard the task is then decide from there if you can repair yourself and save money. read more

I've known of Ali's auto repair for some years now because of my ex-boyfriend who is also a frequent customer of the shop. This was my first time bringing a vehicle of my own into his shop for repair and to have a diagnostic done to figure out why my car cuts on and off. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS AT ALL which is why I entrusted my vehicle to Ali. I paid 1065.00 for repairs to my vehicle only to have to bring it back 3 days later to have more diagnostics done and possible ordering of wires and spark plugs. I thought all of that was included in my 1065 I paid but this was after my vehicle was supposedly fixed. I'm no auto mechanic and I may not know a lot about cars but I speak money and when I am not getting my money's worth I will speak up about it. I was not happy about having to bring my back on the 16th when I paid to pick it up on the 13th of February. Would it make sense to any of you to have supposed brand New parts and wiring in your car to be told the reason why you're having issues because it sat for too long. There was no gas. I mean all those things sound like excuses to me and reasons why my car was not completely fixed. So I leave my car with them. From the time I get there at 1145 am until 230. I had to leave by 3pm to pick up my friend from the airport. However I was dropped off at Bellevue square and was not picked back up until 315. Time after I said I had to leave. I'm not happy at all so I express my frustration and let them know I feel like I am being taken for my money. Ali the owner proceeds to tell me that I know nothing about cars and told me to get "THE FUCK OUT OF HIS SHOP" after I asked him if he treated my ex-boyfriend the same way. Just because I don't know about cars doesn't mean a thing. I thought I was taking my car to a respectful expert who would be willing to educate someone who obviously knows nothing about cars about mines but instead I was insulted because I am a woman and I'm upset. I will probably never do business here again even though my parts are covered under warranty. Great service, Family business, Expert knowledge In the midst of a fierce snowstorm, one of the headlights on my old Prius gave out. It was late at night. I called Ali's Bellevue Auto Repair early the next morning. They were extremely busy but would fit me in. It was Ali who noticed that the connector cable was fried which is what burned out the headlamp. Rather than have me replace the entire headlight assembly for big bucks $$$ he replaced the small part that had burned out with an "after market" piece for $30. My husband and I both use Ali's for our auto service. They go out of their way to keep our old cars in working order. Highly recommended. read more

ALI IS HOLDING MY CAR!!! after I replaced the starter myself in the parking lot bc the quote I was given was stupid high. I was quoted $410. I changed it in 30mins (I'm a 23yr old girl) and bought a new starter with lifetime warranty for $169. When I asked why the estimate was so high more than the average $230 they quote me for 1hr 20mins of work. So now my car is running and Ali won't give it back bc I refuse to pay for the tow they supplied after he had me pay 1000 is work that didn't even need to be done bc they miss diagnosed my car. When a starter is failing it can start or even chug but the biggest clue is when it does nothing. When the car died it didn't chug or tick or make any attempts to start. After a tow ride tossing it around it got to Ali's and chugged a little. Normal bc as it so happens sometimes you can "bang on the starter" to get it to work (words of Ali). So they ignored the fact that the car did not chug the first time and decided to do unnecessary work. I picked the car up and drove from point a to point b when the same problem occured. Ali sent a tow and said it would be covered as well as any work they had done. So now I would like to pick up my car and he has it locked up. Who else thinks this is right? I'm not paying him one more cent after all I'm sure he over charged me for the previous work he can cover his tow for the crap load of "work" they did in the first place. NOT TO MENTION WHEN THE CAR WENT IN YHE SPEEDOMETER WORKED. As soon as I left it didn't. Ali never mentioned how he was going to fix that problem either. read more

Been here several times for the same ongoing problems that never get fixed. After spending around $2500 they still remain. They are really good at replacing every cap in the car though, even replacing the same caps and charging you for them again the very next visit! Dishonest, unskilled, and very unprofessional. (Update) In response to owner. I actually did bring this to your attention a few times and over the course of a few months. All you did is keep charging me money and not fixing the issue. You were very condescending to my wife over the phone, and your front desk workers have told me "they know nothing about cars" and just work there (daughters?) how is that professional? If you really want to be honest you can refund me the money you took without fixing the issue ( but i'm sure that wont happen) If you want to make this right you can feel free to call me. Look up "Dan Grady" in your records and look at the reports yourself. (Update) Never called me up, no real world attempt to "clear the air." Also, in his response to my complaint he indicated that even the Les Schwab specialist didn't notice the worn tires when they had to come out and rescue us. Not true. He was an emergency responder. He didn't get under the coach and look at all of the tires (as I asked Ali's to do). He replaced the two he knew needed to be replaced so we could slowly make our way to the shop and have them all replaced. He actually said that we had to drive very slow and might be okay. After the third blow out when we called Les Schwab they apologized and said he should have brought an extra just in case and followed us all the way back. He also did indicate, when looking at the tires that had blown, that there was no way we should have been driving on them. And, after replacing them he said they were all stripped on the inside. read more

I can say for certain getting service at Ali's is a good choice. From the spotless facility, to friendly and helpful front desk, to the diligent technicians it gives many dealerships a run for their money. Unlike a dealership they take the time to inspect your vehicle and let you know potential problems without pushing you into getting work done on the spot or charging you a "diagnostic fee" or whatever term is in fashion. read more

I had a very good experience with Ali's. I used them for the first time two days ago. I had a heater hose replaced. They were quick and courtesy. The shuttle to and from work was a big bonus too. I feel like I can trust them and the pricing seems fair. I will go back again if I have any car problems. read more
