My car had a major malfunction and needed a new engine. Total surprise to me. Len's handled it, got a used engine, checked out the rest of the car and called it good, several thousand dollars later. I chose them because they were close and i had to limp my car there as it was dying. Very happy with the work they did. Should go another 100k. I scheduled an oil change with Lens after receiving a coupon in the mail. I decided to give them a try. I made an appointment, and everything went smoothly. I worked in the lobby while waiting and the oil change was done within 40 minutes. The staff was helpful with my questions and also showing me services my car is needing and at what mileage, so I was aware. All in all, it was a super pleasant, quick and efficient experience. My car feels great and my favorite part - they turned the "maint" light off without me asking and replaced my service sticker! I like supporting Lens, they have been around since the 60s and aren't some big chain. I recommend! :) read more

pre-purchase inspection for ev got a pre-purchase inspection done on a chevy bolt. isaac pointed out some issues with the tires and also warned me that the touch screen was starting to delaminate and would become unusable within a year. said the car would be worth buying if the dealership would replace these things. dealership wouldn't budge on the screen so i walked. i never would have noticed the screen if it hadn't been pointed out so this inspection saved me a lot of heartache later. thank you!! read more

We've been having Lens service our cars for the last 20 years. Always very reliable, very professional, and fair pricing. Regular oil change used to cost $67. It has been for years. I took it in for an oil change this time and they wanted to charge me $136. Labor charge doubled, $10/qt for the oil, and filter price doubled. Sorry, Lens. You LOST a lifetime customer!! read more

I reached out to Len's in a bit of a pickle, knowing I needed a new alternator and needed it quick to make sure I didn't get stranded. I explained to them the situation over the phone and they said they would get me in and do their best to get it done quickly. Feeling relieved, I arrive and then they tell me about the ~$250 inspection fee. At this point I felt like I had no choice as I didn't know how long my car would continue to drive. However, prior to agreeing, I inquired about estimated cost to replace the alternator and they told me they could not tell me that until after the inspection. They complete the inspection and quote an outrageous price, roughly $300 higher than others to replace it. From here, I reached out to more shops, and every single one was able to give me an estimate over the phone to replace an alternator. They will not price match nor waive the inspection if you complete the work there. Further, I didn't get my triple A discount as advertised. Unsure how much of the quote was due to me being a female or if it was just misquoting the labor. I took my car elsewhere and saved $200 (after the inspection fee, so it could have been $450 saved). I regret going to Len's first so hopefully the next person seeing this will have more time to complete their due diligence instead of getting roped in here. I have been a customer for over 10 years, but I'm not sure now. Simple oil change scheduled, front desk person wrote my name, number down and the time I need it back by (a generous 7 hours later than drop off). No communications until end of day I called to wonder what the status is. They said they''d rush it in 20 min (sounds like they forgot until I called) By then it is too late for me to arrange travel to pick it up- now I have to leave my car overnight. Let's hope I get it back and it's not shoddy work. There used to be such nice mature trustworthy people and this recent interaction is the opposite- must have changed ownership. Alternator replacement. Dishonest. Billed me $1700! Triple A towed my 2006 Toyota Highlander to this place. They told me it would cost $200 to do an analysis. Then they called me and said $1000 to remove and replace the alternator, including the analysis work. They said they could do a filter and oil change and some other things for another $700. I declined. Then they came back with $1700, without doing anything else. After arguing with them about the outrageous bill which they originally quoted as $1000, they came up with the "manager's special" for $1,294. The charges were: Alternator, $390.54; labor to check the car, 1 hour, $225.00. Then remove and replace alternator, battery charge an test charging system, 4.5 hours (!), 559.00, plus taxes. Really, a skilled mechanic would be able to do it in 2-2.5 hours. They might be knowledgeable, but they are dishonest. They said part of the charges were because of towing - well, AAA covered the towing. They didn't even give us the AAA member discount! In a time when people are trying to make ends meet and need their car to do that, places like this hold us hostage. I believe what other's have reported in the reviews. Just complete dishonesty. I'm sure they have treated other customers fairly, but when it's not consistent, because your are young, or female, or a person of color, it's just not right, then you have to look at the big picture. You don't treat everyone fairly. read more

Be aware of unfair overcharging. I was charged $1000 US dollars at Len's for a simple alternator replacement. $187 diagnostic fee, which confirmed the alternator fail, which we already knew and tested prior visiting the shop, which insisted the diagnostic is unavoidable and AAA staff are no mechanics. They can't trust their diagnosis. LEN'S charged $350 on top for labor, for work done no more than 1.5 hour, and $350 for parts (the Alternator). Len's failed to explain how many hour spent on the alternator replacement, and unit price for labour. (I understand it is not in their interest to explain, when they need to over charge. So I leave it to the public to decide whether this is fair. $350 labour for 2010 honda odyssey alternator replacement). Len's claimed they don't install the cheapest parts, so they charged $350 USD for the alternator. Thanks to internet, we can see the range as shown in the photos attached, ranging primarily from $150 to 250 Canadian dollars. the total charge before AAA discount of $50, comes to over $1000, is outrageous, and unjustifiable. I am confident that $500 USD equivalent will get this job done at home in Canada. I reported my concern to BBB and AAA. Len's refuses to admit that they charged unfair amount. I know the 2010 Odyssey very well and owned the car for decades, including previous models. The alternator charges the battery and there is not much to it, especially after AAA diagnostics. Also, I owned dozens of cars in my life and worked with my dad in the autoparts business growing up. What you cannot avoid or convince is an educated scammer speaking the jargon, pretending they are doing the ethical, when they just want the money in your pocket. Avoid them when you can. read more

Been going to Len's for about 5 years now and have a 18 year old car with 240k miles that's hanging in strong. Really recommend their work. I never get the sense they are trying to upsell me on minor issues. I always get my oil changed there with a courtesy check for new issues and occasional inspections. Have had more serious things done like replacing my AC compressor and suspension replaced. Excellent customer service with local shuttle and car drop offs. I have confidence I can keep driving my old car safely going to this mechanic. Doing good maintenance and needing only fairly minor repairs definitely beats a car payment. Do not go here they are a bunch of lying scammers trying to steal your money for things you don't need. Took a Mercedes 300 with around 30k miles for routine oil, filters, battery. They tried to take advantage of my girl and say the entire brake system was malfunctioning and needed replaced. All rotors, calipers, pads, and a total flush were needed for a whopping $3600. There are no issues with the car or brakes. Told them they were full of it, there are no issues and I'm retired Air Force aviation mechanic and current aviation manager, I know a lot about hydraulic/brake systems. They stumbled around said they would get back to us. After a few minutes they called back saying they re-evaluated and should just do calipers, rotors, flush for $2000. I asked what the wear percentage was on the pads which is the first thing you look at checking brakes and they said uh uh uh well we didn't look at that I don't know. Told them there was no visual wear, rippling, or damage to rotors "I know because I looked before we dropped the car off". Told them they were lying try again. They called back saying they need to change the battery and it's $500 for AGM and said it's "Mercedes tax". I know Mercedes cars well she has a 300 and I have a 400 coupe, the car doesn't know a difference between AGM or lead acid batteries. Do not take your car here they will try to take advantage, steal, and con/scare you into work you don't need. I'm glad I went in with my girl they 100% tried to take advantage of her, these guys are full of it and just try to take money from people who have it. read more

We had an issue with our 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 on the 405 in Seattle, the temperature started to go nut. We got off the highway and found there was no water in the rad, I added some and it leaked out. It was late Saturday afternoon, and nothing was open until Monday. I booked an online appointment for 9 am Monday morning. Chris called me at 8:00 am on Monday and we discussed my situation (we were on our way to Idaho for a family emergency). He said he was able to look at the truck but wouldn't promise to have it completed that day, Ugh, another night in a hotel was possible. I've been using Len's for several years for two older vehicles. Repairs/service have always been done right and timely. Recently I took a newer vehicle to a dealer for manufacturer's recommended service. Dealer called after the service and an inspection and said the vehicle needed new rear brake rotors and pads. They quoted a price that sounded high. I thanked them, hung up and called Len's with the information on what needed to be done. Within five minutes, they gave me a quote for the service that was 25% less than the dealer quote. Len's got me in the next day and did the work at the quoted price. The newer car will be going straight to Len's in the future. read more

My visit eased my concerns. They charge by the job required and do what is practical for the customer and did not push extra services or dramatize any detail to make things sound more dire than they actually were. It saddens me to write a negative review for Lens Automotive. All my previous yelp reviews and positive as I feel a good job needs to be recognized. In this case, I was taken advantage of and in hoping it doesn't happen to anyone else. Last week my car was overheating and in a pinch I dropped my car off at the shop. It came highly recommended by my dad who has had his cars services there as well. (I should have stuck with my regular service shop The Price Brothers Garage in totem lake) After a look they came to the conclusion that it was my Radiator and hose among a few other things. They serviced the car and when they told me the price I was shocked but figured I trusted them and said ok. I felt uneasy about the amount all weekend and decided to call around to two other places To get a second opinion on the price. The two other shops would have charged me almost HALF of what this place charged me. When I looked at my receipt they charged me for things I didn't even authorize. $50 for a headlight change?! I had a headlight in my trunk that I purchased for $12 on my own that my husband was going to install for me- I just haven't had a chance yet. Bottom line is they took advantage of me. I gave them 1 stars because they do know what they're doing but have no morals or ethics. Maybe it's easy for them to do in Bellevue. Go here if you want to be ripped off. I won't be back and I will make sure my friends and family avoid this place in the future. read more

My car was sputtering and the engine light came on while I was driving to get my husband from work. We immediately took it to Len's because of the reviews & how close it was to us. We were so lucky Kyle was there to help us. He told us they were about two weeks out on repairs. He called a rental company for us to get his deal. We did some trouble shooting ourselves & he even came out & helped us trouble shoot a little. When we realized it was a simple fix he even ordered our part & had it delivered!! Long story, short, I went here for about $400 in work and walked out with a $2200 bill. I was in a hurry and didn't want to shop around based on price, but after the fact did call the dealer to price one component of the repair and discovered the Len's price was about $175 higher then the dealer on that component. Finding this out was a great disappointment because I was very much looking for a new shop to love to service my 3 vehicles. Don't get me wrong, I did trust what they were saying and chose to do what was effectively "optional" maintenance work, but no independent shop should be charging more then the dealer for the same work. Was also disappointed that they would not waive the hour of shop time for "diagnosis" when I agreed to perform the more extensive work, as other shops do in my experience. Other then that, I do think the people there were professional, and I believe trustworthy, but the concerns on value ultimately carried the day. read more

As much as I hate to admit it, I am a total blonde when it comes to cars. I know how to fill 'er up, check the oil/fluid levels, change windshield wipers, and well, drive. That's why I NEED Len's. I have been going to Len's for years, first with my beloved 1990 Accord and now with Beverly, my '95 Accord. They are honest, timely, knowledgeable, and affordable. Unlike many other mechanics, they will not try to get you to do unnecessary work and will speak to you in a respectful, understandable manner. There is a reason that Len's is rated among the best of the best auto repair shops by AAA. My '98 Toyota 4Runner has seen better days, but at 210,000 miles it needs to see several more. I did some research and called three different repair shops on a Saturday evening, leaving messages to return my call. Len's called me back first thing Monday morning - I didn't hear from the other two. I told them I knew I had a dead battery but that I also might need to have the starter contacts cleaned, or that it might need a remanufactured starter. I didn't want to sink a lot of money into the car, although it's been a great car all these years, but I did want to get it running with minimal out-of-pocket expense. They said to bring it in and they would call me before doing anything to it. I had it towed in that evening (luckily I have towing as part of my insurance) and they called me promptly the next morning. All I needed was a battery!! Whoo-hoo! I asked what else I could do to be a good owner and keep it running a few more years. He said a tune up would be something he would do it if were his car (it had been at least 5 years) and the transmission fluid was getting really dark. I really appreciated that I was the one leading the conversation, not them selling everything they could think of, especially since I am a woman. I am so happy with the prompt and friendly service and that they didn't try to upsell me even though I've let maintenance on my 4Runner slip the last several years. I also got a thumbs up from the tow truck driver when I told him where to take it! He used to be a mechanic and told me I couldn't have picked a better place to take my car. I will definitely go back again, and again, and again. Side note: I found out that they work on MINI Coopers. Usually just "import automotive shops" or BWM/MINI dealers work on them. read more

Len's Automotive was awesome! My dad was really great with cars so I've never really had to go to a mechanic before. Now that I've moved two states away from home it's really comforting to know that there's a place that handles uniformed people like me with respect and professionalism. The starter in my car went out when I was leaving work the other day. I found Len's high on the AAA recommended list. I called them, was given an estimate over the phone, and Ken talked to me briefly about what the problem could be. I had AAA tow it over and was called back the next day by Bob at Len's. Long story short, not only did the cost come out to exactly what was originally estimated on the phone, they had it done a day earlier then originally thought. Bob and Ken were super nice and always made a point to tell me everything that was going on. All in all I was very pleased with every aspect of their service. read more

They confirmed that they ample experience with servicing Minis and after changing the oil (only $40! b/c I brought my own oil), they carefully reviewed what I might want to consider doing over the next year. Nothing major and no fear tactics. I left thinking that this was about as close to what an 'old school' experience from the 50's may have been like. I have been taking my cars to Lens for over 15 years. I am sad that I will no longer be able to rely on them for service. I took my car in this morning because it was running hot. No other complaints....running hot. Like other reviewers I was told there would be a diagnostic fee. In the five hours they had my car they took the time at my expense to check the power steering, alignment, shocks, spark plugs, air filter, fuel injection, belt, front brakes, rear brakes, tires, lights, muffler, battery, PCV, and finally my cooling system. All that "diagnostic" work to determine that the water pump is leaking. I received a five page report detailing all of the systems that they reviewed to determine that the water pump is leaking. And then they quoted an astronomical rate to replace the water pump, belt, and thermostat. It is really shameful for any shop to put any vehicle through this sort of costly review when the problem is fairly straightforward. They are trying to scare customers into getting more repairs than are immediately needed. I spoke with the owner when I came to get my vehicle. He is perfectly comfortable with how his shop operates. He doesn't think anything should be done differently and he had no problem taking my money for diagnostics that were clearly not necessary for the stated problem. Len's will never repair another vehicle that I own. I will recommend that anyone wanting to visit a good, honest shop find someplace else. 2/9/17 Update based on Kyle's response: I did speak with Kyle when I came back to get my car. He was "nice" but didn't seem to really care that I was unhappy. He has written all of the "right" things in his response to my review, but the reality is that he still is perfectly comfortable with how this business runs and the amount they charge customers. After picking up my car from Len's I took it to another local repair shop. I asked them to replace the water pump, belt, and thermostat. They asked how I knew those needed to be replaced. I told them that I had been told by Len's that those repairs needed to be done. They said they would check and make sure that all of those things needed to be done before they actually started the work. At no cost to me they checked my vehicle and found that those repairs did need to be done. They gave me a quote that was fully $500 less than the repair costs that Len's quoted me. The work was completed in the time they promised and in total I could have saved almost $700 if I hadn't paid the "diagnostic fee" to Len's. I have since asked other local shops how they handle diagnostic costs. Some said that they charge a fee, but then that fee is applied to the cost of the repairs. Others indicated that doing the diagnostics is something they do and don't add fees for that. All in all I find that Len's practices and pricing are unacceptable. read more

Do not trust these guys! every time I take my car in something else goes wrong a week later! I recently move to Wa and was nervous about finding a mechanic I could trust. Back home my family and friends had been taking our cars to the same place for 20 years. I saw the reviews on yelp and thought i would give them a try. I needed to have my cars 100k mile maintenance done. About a week or two after I got my car back, the engine started squeaking upon startup. I didn't think much of it because it was very faint- I figured it was a loose belt. Eventually it got bad enough that I took it in. My alternator needed replacing. I've never had major issues with this car and it is old, so I figured it was just a coincidence with the timing. Well I paid them to replace the alternator and a week later discovered my AC wasn't working. I took it back in and made my concerns known to the manager. This was the 2nd time I had gotten my car back and while I didn't accuse them of anything, I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't being taken advantage of. I had to bring the car in again to have it fixed. Turns out they hadn't finished the job of putting my alternator in- they left the air conditioner unplugged. I got my Jeep back last Friday and as I was driving home today my check engine light came on. I am done with this place. If you are considering using their business, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. read more

First of all-I towed my car through my insurance company. And of course the sound that the starter made was part of it-I thought it was because of the broken knock sensor. When I called and spoke with Kyle he showed no concern and did not offer to check it out. Your answer to my review is un-true. Reliable repair and good customer service I have been going to Lens automotive for the past 18 years and have been generally happy with their service. They usually do a thorough evaluation, give me an assessment of the impact for not fixing and a price. They accept my recommendations and I have not find the pushing for more. Kyle and Bryan recently fixed our 1998 toyota and I was happy with the overall service response and care they showed for the car. I found my turn signal was not working after picking up the car from repair. So I went back and Bryan diagnosed it for free providing me a temporary fix. I will continue to take my car and van to Lens. read more
