They shouldn't even get 1 star. This place has the worst service that I have ever experienced. When I received my food the order was not even fresh. I will never order from this place again. All the do is shout and scream inside at each other like it's not rude. They take forever to make the orders and when u do get it they practically throw it t u. Do not recommend this place. oh lawd i had been living in maryland for quite some time and whenever i traveled up to the bronx I would always stop by Ali's Roti Shop. The food is great, i usually bought the curry goat, chicken, or oxtail, and always some roti as well as polourie and doubles at times. The pepper sause is great and the sauce with the polourie blesses my taste buds. And doh get me started on the seamoss and peanut punch which are excellent too. I know this all might sound too good to be true but this really is some good home food they are selling here. To add it all up the trini and grenadian family running de place are very nice. I recently got into eating roti heavy so I found this gem near work and made it my Bronx roti spot. It's a small place with a few stools so its ideal for takeout. Sometimes they're back in the kitchen so you have to ring the little bell on the counter. My usual order is the veggie roti with chick peas, spinach, curry potatoes and pumpkin. I add a touch of tamarind sauce. They give big portions for a 6 dollar price. The Rotis with meat might be a bit more expensive. The veggies are flavorful.. potatoes curried well and the pumpkin lightly sweetened. The roti skin is soft and seasoned well. I usually get a sorrel drink . Being a roti novice I haven 't sampled too many bx roti spots but I have had Alis in Brooklyn. Not sure if they're affiliated but I prefer the bx store cuz the smaller size of the place which lends to a more intimate roti. My 8 year old daughter was craving "buss up shot", so a quick search on yelp revealed Ali's as being the closest fix. Previous to this, it was usually a place in Brooklyn or Queens. Street parking was not too difficult to find and although the store is small, it is clean and has a Health Dept. "A" rating in the window. We ordered three buss up shots (two with chicken curry and one with goat curry) and about 8 minutes later, got our take out order. Those three items, along with an order of fudge and a piece of fruit cake, came to $30. And remember they only take cash, no credit. The fudge was actually milk toffee (the crumbly type made with sweetened condensed milk not the sticky type) and was delicious. The fruit cake was pretty good also. The lady at the counter was efficient but not rude and I liked the vibe I got from this little shop. And the food was damn good! My daughter and I devoured the roti and curries when we got home. With a plan to expand my kids food horizons we stopped for roti. We ordered the boneless chicken roti and shrimp roti. The skins were great. But they both were dry. The curry could use some pepper. To be honest I would try them again and definitely get the chicken with bones. read more

I was in the Bronx this past Father's Day weekend and was looking and craving some REAL good Caribbean food! My wife found the place online and we went. And I must admit the food was AMAZING! By far the BEST Peas and Rice ( outside of being back home ) at any place like this that we have visited. We had the OxTail Stew complete dinner. The only drawback was we also ordered, for my wife the Curry Beef Roti w /Dalpuri. I think the lady was so dedicated to ensurre she had the right type of Roti that she forgot the Curry Beef. I must admit we also die not check as we were enjoying the Phoulouri too much...smiles! Great Place. You would drive right by if you were not aware it was there. Since i've moved from BK to the BX i wasn't sure if i would find any Trinbagoian shops similar to those in Bk since my knowledge of the BX is very limited. Luckily i was happy to see there was an Alis out here. Coming from E.tremont, it was the closest shop available with out me having to travel to BK for some home food. Not too sure if this Alis is related to the BK one, but since they all operate under one National Flag, its all good to me. You may have to double park if no space is available. Inside, the spot is small, i say best for the on the go orders, to sit in and eat would be your own prerogative. I ordered goat roti n have them separated. The portion was more than i had expected which was good because it made sure my belly get and stay full. The homemade sea moss was boss yes, if i had known i would have bought 2. It was the best i've tasted when i left home, i can give them that much. I say they are worth a second visit and hopefully it can grow on me now being a new Bronxite. read more
