Tremendously dissatisfied with my experience here. It took me about 5 months to write this because I am not that guy. However a tattoo is something you live with, see everyday. It is a commitment you make. Joaquin is a great guy and easy going. However don't feel his Effort and energy was present. He stopped and paused so many times while doing my tattoo. Whether it was to talk to someone, text, phone call or even have lunch. Regardless the work he did, was not reflective of a good artist. I paid so much and I regret having that tat done. It was horrible. See photos. They're all about how it looks in the moment and not how it heals. You talk to them about it and they blame allergies. I've had other tats done before and no issues. Stumbled upon this place last weekend while looking for a piercer in the area. Absolutely love the vibe and aesthetic! Their piercer, Amanda, is super welcoming and easy to talk to. Love this place. First off, they have incredible artists there. Many different styles. Of course, I'm partial to Zoe (https://www.instagram.com/zoe.cetinkaya/), she does all my work. She can go 10+ hours straight and gets locked in, she's a beast on lines, detail, color, shading, so good. The rest of the crew are incredible too. Whether you want an expresso to keep your energy up during long sessions or brainstorm design ideas, they're all there to help and love what they do. Let's talk about the facility. It's high-end. Everything is clean. All the equipment from the tattoo tables/chairs, artist stations, music, even pillows if you need them. Everything is setup tight. Each artist has their own bench with inks and equipment. Everything is sterile, of course, and they clean constantly. As someone who didn't start getting tattoo's until his 40's, this place made me feel so comfortable I keep coming back. Whether you have your own idea or completed art, or you want them to come up with something from scratch, they're up for it. This is the place. Alium Tattoo Studio is a large tattoo studio in Culver City a short walk away from lots of food areas and shopping. We came last week for a walk-in but their piercer wasn't there, so we came back and made an appointment today. The environment is super chill and everything is very clean and aesthetic. They were very helpful as well. The service I got a second lobe piercing and my friend got a naval piercing. The base price is $40 for each ear and $70 for the naval which all included a basic titanium piece. We added on opal and crystal piercings so it brought the price up by around $30. It was a bit expensive but totally worth it. The piercer Amanda was super nice and made sure we were comfortable. It was very quick and didn't hurt too bad. They also have aftercare instructions. I can't say enough good things about Zoe Cetinkaya. She is hands down the most talented artist I've ever worked with. From collaborating on the design to tattooing for 12 hours straight (yes, you read that right), she absolutely nailed every part of the process. Her attention to detail, artistry, and dedication are next level. After I was out of the chair the service didn't stop as she followed up with clear, thoughtful guidance to make sure the tattoo healed perfectly. And it did! The studio itself has an awesome vibe. My main gripe with this shop was the HORRIBLE communication, I really wish my tattoo artist had communicated her thought process more. It felt like I was being discouraged from conversations with her. she rushed all communication and just told me to not be worried and that my design was easy and to have confidence in her but later said it was too complicated AFTER she finished causing her to mess up? (her skill level is good and this was, in fact, very doable for her). As my tattoo was healing I decided I might want a touch up. I reached out to ask some questions and wanted her professional advice. She became incredibly unresponsive. I texted multiple times and received no reply for weeks. I eventually had to contact her boss just to get her to respond. Before I had to get her boss involved, I told her I felt this was unprofessional. She became passive-aggressive and said she had posted on her Instagram story that she would be gone for the holidays. I don't check Instagram stories much, and stories are a one-day post. I had actually texted her before her vacation though, and she had nearly five days to respond. After I kept trying to talk to her, she dismissed me again despite being off vacation, but I saw she continued posting online, so I knew she was active and simply ignoring me. Now for my tattoo: there are MANY good small details, which confuses me as to how she somehow missed the big one where I wanted holes in the lining of my tattoo, which was in the agreed-upon sketch that we both worked on together and was an element on all my references I gave her. Instead of apologizing and looking for solutions, she made me feel foolish for questioning it, implying that I didn't understand that tattoos fade over time. There is a major difference between natural fading and specific design elements that were agreed upon not being included at all. She did much smaller details in my tattoo, but big holes were too difficult? She recreated fake scars details with her fine-line skills, but filling in the agreed "do not touch" spots was an expected mishap? Why wasn't I informed about this? Why didn't she ask me questions or talk to me if she had concerns about it? It's because she didn't have any! she messed up, and she refused to admit it, not even offering a simple apology. When I finally got to schedule my first touch-up appointment, I had a main goal to finally converse with my artist as it was the only reliable way to speak to her, since getting responses over text was nearly impossible. I also wanted to see if I felt enough confidence in her again to continue and get the retouching done, or if I didn't feel safe, I thought it would be fine and I'd simply not continue with the appointment. During so I noticed too many parts were uneven, and if I fixed one part, other parts would look strange. So I informed her of my hesitation about not continuing that day. But apparently this was a huge offense? Both the artist and her boss became extremely upset. They accused me of wasting their time and materials because they had already wiped down the table for me. I apologized for the loss of materials, but they kept bringing it up. The artist even complained that at other shops, my actions of changing my mind would be unacceptable? The boss also complained that I had taken four months to decide what to do and that I should have made a clear decision already yet he was the one who told me to wait that long before making any decisions about touch-ups, saying tattoos need time to heal? He also advised me not to rush into a touch-up that same day, but then got angry when I followed that advice later on. Mind you, this was my first time ever canceling or hesitating at an appointment but he kept repeating that I did this constantly?? The entire interaction felt like I was being scolded and bullied. There was no empathy, no accountability, and it was all way too passive-aggressive for such a "distinguished shop". I truly wish I had recorded the interaction, as it was that uncomfortable. I ended up apologizing over and over again to their complaints which made no sense and even texted another apology to my tattoo artist afterward, as I was convinced into thinking I was being extremely offensive but after reflecting throughout the day, I realized it was the very opposite. I feel SO cheated. I ended up getting my touch up done later regardless and simply asked her for one request-- to match two lines together because one was more faded than the other, she ended up making the faded one not only still faded but also LONGER than the other line I asked her to match with...how do you mess up something so simple? I ended up leaving pretending I liked it as what else could be done? I didn't want to fight or complain anymore as I hate conflict and I felt as though she ruined my vision enough. At this point I want my tattoo removed as it looks so off to what I originally wanted in my head. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

Artist: Zoe did a fantastic job to transform from my concept to reality in a fine line tattoo on my forearm. She weaved key elements that I shared with her in our consultation and brought in her own style / design (of honeycomb like, square strong lines, shading) that I never would have expected, into a masterpiece. Her professional attitude and focus during the session helped me stay confident that the end work would look like the final design (which it did!) Inspiration: Wanted to share my experiences in Hawaii and my love for scuba diving. I commonly see sea turtles while diving and having palm trees was a must (I think is symbolic of the 'escape'). We were in the area visiting from NorCal, and found Alium Tattoo Studio through Yelp. My wife, 20yo daughter, and I did a walk-in, and although the place was busy, we were all accommodated on the same day. The studio was clean, bright and airy, and had a welcoming atmosphere-- very diverse clientele. All the artists we encountered were friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Amanda was the first to greet us at the front, answered our initial questions, set us up with our artists, and overall made us feel very comfortable. We felt good vibes the whole time and this meant a lot to us, as my daughter and I were both first-timers and already nervous about everything. Alexis did my daughter's tattoo. He spent a significant amount of time taking her vision of birth flowers and coming up with a perfect design. Arianno was super fast not only in finalizing with my wife's phoenix design, but also getting the work done. Shading and aesthetics were simply amazing. Zoe was extremely meticulous, flawlessly executing on a design I had already come up with. She took her time, showed great attention to detail, and the results were exactly what I had envisioned. I was also pleased with their communication-- had a few aftercare-related questions and concerns, and they responded within a reasonable timeframe with helpful information. I felt bad bugging them but they were very friendly throughout, assuring me that they were always there for us. I work down the street from here and decided to pop in for a consult last week when I felt the irresistible urge for a needle in my skin. I've had two tattoos on deck for a while, explained what I wanted and they created the artwork quickly, and exactly to my specifications. When I told my artist, Zoe, that I have a tropical vacation coming up, she made clear that she wouldn't do the tattoo after a certain date, as the sun and water runs well-known risks to freshies. I fully appreciated her input, as I've had other artists that don't pay mind to aftercare. I booked my appointment for this last Sunday and I can't be happier with the results. Zoe was receptive to my concerns over placement, and adjusted my stencils appropriately. She took her time with both tattoos, which is also something I appreciated - I don't want to be rushed out of an appointment just so they can make a quicker buck. I usually try to visit different shops and artists, but I will definitely come back to Alium. They were hospitable, kind, and do great work. I do not recommend this establishment for either tattoos or piercings. My boyfriend surprised me with a tattoo for Valentine's Day, booking an appointment a few days in advance and providing an estimate of the services we planned to get. When we arrived, the tattoo artist we were told would be working with us was not there. He arrived 20 minutes late and only briefly assisted with my boyfriend's consultation. My boyfriend's tattoo experience was decent, but the artist we were originally assigned never ended up tattooing either of us. For my consultation, I felt extremely rushed. I initially requested red ink, but the artist talked me out of it--something I now regret. A more accommodating artist would have at least considered my preference rather than dismissing it. After getting our tattoos, my boyfriend decided to get his nose pierced, which turned out to be a terrible experience. The piercer used jewelry that was far too small, with the gem practically embedded inside his nose, leaving no room for swelling and causing him immediate pain. Worse, she required my assistance to hold the backing while she forcefully pushed the jewelry into place. Having both sides of my nose pierced myself, I immediately knew something was wrong. We were significantly overcharged for both our tattoos and the piercing. When we returned the next day to request a jewelry change, the piercer told us to wait TWO WEEKS before coming back. Had we followed her advice, his skin would have grown over the jewelry. Instead, we went to another shop that same day, where we were informed that she had pierced his nose crookedly. He removed the piercing immediately to prevent infection. I do not recommend this shop, especially for people of color or for anyone looking for an artist who will guide them through the process with care. There are far better shops with more reasonable prices, better practices, and greater respect for their clients. read more

I decided it was time to get an(other) ear piercing. Today was a helix. I'd passed Alium on my way to Culver City and beyond and had followed their social media so Alium was my choice. I was called ahead to make sure the "piercing lady" was in and I was on my way. Street parking is easy (bring coins for the meter). Amanda introduced herself and showed me a nice selection of starter earrings. I settled on a flat stud (because I'll upgrade to a "fancy" after I've healed fully). Amanda helped me pick the right spot for the piercing and we were off. I was such a goof I thought she was finished when she marked the spot. Anyhoo, it didn't hurt very much (it IS a piercing and she used a brand new surgical needle (i watched her open it). After, she gave me after care instructions. Lots of assurances to call or stop by if I have questions about the healing. I'll definitely be back (Amanda will switch out the back for a flat back) and for a tattoo. Alium is super clean, quiet...nice music nothing to make you dance whilst gettibg inked. I suggest making an appointment. You can also get a consultation ahead of time. Oh! They only do cash or Zelle. There's an ATM inside ($4 fee) so crispy greens ready. read more

The shop is very nice and clean, however I did not have a good experience. My appointment was at 3 with Jaoqin and he started much later than that. Once the tattoo began things were fine, but he stopped mid tattoo to go outside. Left without saying anything. Later on he stopped again to help a walk in customer. He was gone for 40 min... mid tattoo.... All I got was a "sorry" very frustrating and unprofessional. Shortly after, the artist told me we were going to take a 10 min break. That quickly turned into a 20 min break of me just waiting for him to come back. This appt could have been a lot faster if my artist did not frequently leave for long periods. I felt like my time was not valued and it really ruined my experience. I do love my piece but I would never return or recommend to anyone, which is a shame since I do love the work I had done. read more
