The outside deck needed to be redone, the fence needed to be cleaned and painted, cracks on the bricks had to be mended and the whole front repainted. After providing a thorough estimate, they completed the work in just over a week. Everything turned out better than expected, on time, and on budget, even with additional work not previously anticipated. Mr Swinton even offered to replace the dated porch lights with updated ones at no additional cost. This is the type of person we love to work with and highly recommend him to friends, family, and other businesses.

Instead our project was completed ahead of schedule, just under budget, and the quality of the work was excellent. And that includes an expanded project scope that came up when we discovered large issues with a neighboring property. Fairmont was incredibly flexible and easy to work with. They were always willing to listen to our ideas and make changes as needed. They were also very responsive to my questions and concerns. Fairmont's foreman or a partner subcontractor was on-site on average more than five days a week for the entire many-month project. This allowed them to keep a close eye on the work and make sure that everything was done to the highest standards, and if not the first time, they made sure it was redone. Unlike several neighboring projects, we had no stop work orders, no neighbor complaints (complements actually), and all our inspections were successful. I would highly recommend Fairmont to anyone looking for a home builder or doing a major urban renovation. They are professional, reliable, and they do great work.

However, I am an old house lover (now a three-time renovator) and keeping or reinventing old house detail was important. Carlos manages construction, the tradesmen, the sub-contractors, and the overall quality of the workmanship on the job. He is an experienced builder, taking pride in bringing ideas to life but careful to offer full disclosure on the pros, cons and risks of each option. Jose manages the business side of the project - budgeting and billing, tracking and documenting changes, purchase of materials, recommending vendors for kitchen design, tiles, stone, flooring etc. Most important was his management of communications between Fairmont and me, the homeowner. Jose took time to ask questions and listen carefully to answers. I know and appreciate how rare it is to have good communication. I also have lived the consequences of mediocre communication. Mistakes are costly. Jose follows a protocol of asking, clarifying, and following up with an email restating our discussion and inviting me to comment, add, or correct. The answers don't matter as much as the asking and listening. This worked so well there were no horror stories. To summarize: Strong management of the permitting process, of sub-contractors, deliveries, security of the property and use of appropriate safety measures. I think its important to say also that the project was managed ethically, honestly and respectfully. Everyone on the job was pleasant and upbeat. Weekly walk-thru meetings insuring the work was proceeding according to agreement. Efficient cascade of information, decisions and/or changes, from homeowner and Fairmont to the tradesmen and subcontractors. A solid team of workers - excellent workmanship, site management and daily clean-up. Also, no profanity or loudness, no littering, no complaints from neighbors, and very happily, no accidents. Lastly, Fairmont checks in with you periodically during the year following move-in. Together we created a list of little adjustments and changes that you can't anticipate until you move in. All done! The house is lovely - beautiful carpentry, millwork and all the details that make it livable for me. I feel very fortunate to have done this work with Fairmont and I would recommend them without reservation!

We had used D & M over the years for a new roof on 2 different houses, new gutters, new siding and a new pair of sliding patio doors. They always did great work, but we didn't know that they also fixed chimneys. Todd knew immediately what needed to be done and where it was leaking just by looking at the water stains on the brick. D & M replaced the cement crown and a section of brick, as well as a few smaller repairs. That was in February and not one drop of water has fallen into the fireplace since.

(We had our home built in 1970 and needed these upgrades for both maintenance and lifestyle reasons, including making it safer and user-friendly for my elderly mother.) And honestly, the company and the owner helped rebuild my openness to trust contractors and taught me something about the potential goodwill of strangers (after an experience with another contractor who had misrepresented himself as licensed, threatened me, cost my family thousands of dollars, and destroyed one of our bathrooms). After an initial phone conversation, the owner of Renovec came to our house himself and underbid the lowest estimate we'd gotten for the work. He assigned a project manager to the job and a subcontractor, both of whom he was continually in contact with, and he, the PM, and the owner of the subcontracting firm were all invested in ensuring that my family and I were satisfied with the work and progress. When unexpected scenarios came up (as may happen with multi-faceted jobs, especially with an older home), Renovec did not create change orders but rather came up with innovative, responsible, and aesthetically pleasing solutions that the company implemented at cost. For instance, they reversed the egress direction of a door and replaced it with two half doors to make the limited laundry-room space work, and the owner himself, who is skilled at plumbing, came onsite to create a multi-layered insulation approach to make an outside wall work for plumbing. The PM always picked up the phone when I called or called me back within a few minutes in response to any question or concern I had, and the owner was also responsive, even though it was clear that the company was not making top dollar on this job. They were just honorable in addition to being skilled. More than once, someone from Renovec told me that they wanted me and my mother to be happy with the work. From my experience, Renovec is a company that takes pride in what they do and cares about the people they are doing it for. And now I have my dream bathroom and upstairs laundry, which I would not have imagined I would've been able to afford right now, a safe home for my mother to age in place, and a house that is on its way to not only being restored but also luxuriously enhanced. I am in the process of working with Renovec for a new roof, plan to continue to call upon them as I am able to afford additional renovations over the coming years, and recommend the company highly.

I see that today, Chad Hall, the owner responded to my review with blatant lies. I was not refunded. I sued and won my case (Fairfax County General District Court case number GV18005396-00). Then my attorneys spent months trying to collect on my judgement. In the meantime, I had to find another contractor to completely demolish what Remodelmate did and start anew. I even had to replace my carpet on the upper floor due to paint spills and the floor on the main level due to a flood caused by the contractor. Less than zero stars would be appropriate. Buyer beware.

My wife and I were very disappointed by our experience attempting to work with Remodelmate. The…read moreonly positive thing I can say is that we didn't have to sign a contract for the whole project up front, and that allowed us to back out after it became clear that they were not being upfront about how much they were going to charge us for the work when all was said and done. We first contacted Remodelmate in March 2022 after realizing that there was significant damage to the sewer drain pipe connecting to the toilet in the bathroom of our fixer-upper. Because we knew this was going to be a big issue, we jumped on a call with Chad early-on to confirm that repairing/replacing this was included in the estimate (list of "Milestones") they provided so that we could fairly compare it against other estimates that also included it. Chad assured us that it was included and noted that they remodel bathrooms in various conditions with all sorts of problems, and this isn't really that big of a deal. We made the mistake of taking his word for it. Relying on the list of Milestones and their corresponding prices, and our conversation with Chad, we decided to work with Remodelmate. We paid them a $250 deposit, an additional $500 for professional design, and purchased thousands of dollars in materials in anticipation of the start date they assigned us. Much to our surprise, when the contractor showed up on our start date they almost immediately informed us that the sewer drain was not included and would add approximately $4,500 to the cost. The contractor also informed us that a number of other charges had been omitted from the List of Milestones, and there would be significant additional charges to complete the job they helped us design. On the day the work was supposed to start, the total cost for the job went from just over $12,000 to more than $21,000. We immediately contacted Remodelmate expecting that they would honor what Chad told us with regard to the sewer drain. This time we were put in touch with Logan, who initially agreed to talk with Chad to determine whether there was a misunderstanding, but he never gave us an explanation despite repeated requests. He matter-of-factly explained that we would have to pay the full additional charge if we wanted to proceed with the work, and we never heard from Chad again. It was infuriating. We did not understand how Remodelmate could provide us with a design, and what we understood was a complete estimate, only to then say they left out almost half of the steps needed to complete the project as designed. To their credit, Remodelmate ultimately acknowledged mistakes were made and offered a couple of small freebies, but nothing that came close to making up for grossly underestimating the cost of the work, which caused us to choose them in the first place. We were fortunate that at the time we realized who we were dealing with we were only out the $750 + materials, and still had the option to walk away. I'm thankful that we were able to find another reputable company to do the work that was honest and up front with us about the true cost of the work. At first, I worried that may be this is just how the remodeling business works, but we didn't have any of these problems with the company who ultimately did the work on our bathroom. If you decide to go with Remodelmate I would suggest recording any phone conversations with them and if you intend to rely on a commitment from them be sure that every word of it is in writing.

Bill is an artist with a vision , and he worked diligently with us to design the best plan for our new kitchen and discuss our wish list , and delivered the beautiful and exceptional result in plenty of time for Thanksgiving ! After the sale was complete and the initial deposit was delivered, he all but disappeared. Here are the low lights: The project dragged on and went over schedule. A crew member showed up drunk and smoked pot in my yard. There was money stolen from my home. My complaints and phone calls to the owner went unanswered. Now that the work has been completed for several years, I am trying to get the 4 leaking skylights that they installed repaired, and the owner is cursing at me and telling me to go hire "the Mexicans" to fix the problem. Please keep in mind that this is a man who I paid more than $100,000. In addition to the skylight problem, the drywall tape and joints are pulling off the walls and ceilings, and there are numerous cracks that show poor drywall finish work and obviously shifting constructions. Do not hire Total Living Construction. You will be sorry. I am.
