    I am always renting cars with Hertz due to the high quality of car, reliability of service,…read moremultiple convenient locations and competitive prices. However, there were a thousand things wrong with this rental experience in Passaic NJ, on Oct 10 2025. I get to the rental place and I get told that "they're out of cars. sorry" with no regards to the fact that I had a RESERVATION for a car and that they already have a man there waiting for a car to be returned. The lady basically shrugs and implies there's nothing she can do, not even giving me an alternative solution or a phone number to call. I look up a number myself, step outside the establishment and call myself. The employee I spoke with on the phone is somewhat helpful enough to get me a car at a nearby location of Clifton NJ, and with the promise that I would be reimbursed for my car share ride service to the new location. I walk back inside the Passaic NJ establishment and there's a new employee (man) I hadn't met with before. The first employee (lady) asks me if I fixed any problems, and I tell her I am going to the Clifton NJ location to pick up a car. Both employees speak at the same time, saying "wait that's us" and "that car is being returned here". I am visibly and understandbly confused and one of them say "yeah I know it's confusing, but you can get the car from here." While I am waiting for the car to be delivered, a couple walks in to pick up their rental, saying they are 30 min late, and one of the employees has the same message to the couple: "Sorry we are out of cars and you're late so we gave yours away" while the website and contract clearly state that they will hold the reservation for 2h the employee says "that is wrong it's actually 30min and you didn't call us to let us know you were running late." All of this is unacceptable for a service I am paying a significant amount of money for, especially as a member with President's Circle status. This delayed my trip for at least 1h resulting in me missing part of my conference the next day. I am requesting a refund of my money as this was a significant inconvenience of my Friday and the rest of my weekend plans, on top of losing the money I spent on conference and hotel bookings. Additionally, I will not be paying for any processing fees for tolls, as I am trying to get my car registered in the Pennsylvania tolls by mail website and the website is not letting me submit the car plate saying it is registered to another user. This on top of everything else I already submitted is unacceptable and just another way to ensure I send more money your way for bad service. I am not opposed to paying what I owe in tolls, but the unnecessary and excessive service fees are completely and utterly unacceptable.

This location had a car available so I showed up 20 minutes later and took a car out. The 2 gentlemen working here are super nice and courteous! It was a great experience overall.

    Surprise (or not)! I've got another *ONE* star review to add to this UHaul's collection of bad…read morereviews. We rented two trucks for our move on back-to-back days. On each day, we made sure to make note of the gas tank at the beginning of our move and on each day, we went out of our way to stop by a gas station and fill the tank back up to where the line was. And much later, we found that we were charged an $80 tank filling fee for each day ($160 total). We obviously called to argue these charges and after two days of investigation and back and forth were able to reverse one of the charges because they couldn't find documentation of any gas check occurring at all. UHaul refused to reverse the second charge because they did have a picture that showed the tank line being 1/32 of a tank lower than starting. However, we noticed that the picture had a timestamp was 2+ hours after we returned the truck. We asked them to pull video footage which showed the truck was left at check-in (i.e. left on) at the direction of another UHaul employee. Gee, I wonder if an idling engine could use up any gas? Was this enough to reverse the charge yet? Despite all logic, they devolved into repeating the same line over and over, that they could not reverse the charge and we could not speak to the manager of the location. These people are the scum of the earth, who in addition to tacking on a lofty penalty charge, literally robbed us of the extra gas that we put into the tank, as a result of their own incompetency. UHaul might be too big to go out of business, but here's to hoping this location does!

    Don't hold you hat out on getting a rental truck even if you receive a confirmation. I don't…read morenecessarily blame this franchise location, but rather Budget Truck rental in general. I had a confirmed rental (although the confirmation email states in fine print that it's no guarantee of a vehicle being available). I showed up at the location at the confirmed time, only to be "walked" and told there wasn't a truck available and that "someone" in inventory was supposed to have contacted me. I left and made a reservation w/UHaul who actually guarantee to pay you $50 if a confirmed rental isn't fulfilled. To make matters worse, Budget charged me a $75 no-show fee even though they were the no-show. I had to call customer service and after about 5 min was able to get them to process a credit. Their initial response was that I was supposed to cancel my reservation. Go figure.

The plate glass on the front door is shattered, the security camera is half pulled off the wall, the garage is a mess, as is the parking lot, and half of the shrubbery is littered with paper or is dying. The staff denied my online reservation, saying it was for another of their stores, but they gave me a replacement car. The problem was the tree sap or some other sticky stuff on the hood of the car. They tried to wash it off, but no dice. They didn't have any mineral spirits in the mess of a garage. Worse was that the windshield fluid was low, so the dashboard control drove us crazy until we stuck a hose in the reservoir to fill it up. Earth to Corporate: Are you listening?!
