Saturday November 19, 2022 Stopped with my Sicilian Husband and Daughter home from college to purchase cookies and italian bread. No bread available at 10:00 am!! Purchased 1 LB butter cookies. I love this place!! Their items are super delicious and super affordable!! We really like their brownies, eclairs, and donuts. Every single item has dairy in it so if you are looking for something without dairy this is not the place for you. That being said there isn't that much dairy in donuts or the eclair if the chocolate frosting is taken off. In terms of the brownies, they have fudge topping or caramel topping. We prefer the fudge topping but both are excellent! I also like all of their donuts and I haven't had one that I've tried that I didn't like. The people inside are very helpful and very efficient! I am thankful for them partnering with Groupon because if they had and I wouldn't have known about them and now I am a regular! Every time I come to Chicago this is one of my stops! read more

I was disappointed as you used strawberry jam instead of fresh berries and when they packed them, they had them on their side instead of laying flat in the box, all the filling came out and was stuck to the bottom of the box. On Christmas Eve, I was looking for a good bakery to buy a variety of goodies and this bakery was recommended to me. The line and wait was long (sign that it's a good bakery), but worth the wait. I stopped in to pick up some zeppole, they were the worst zeppole I have ever had. First of all 6 of them cost me over $16, way too much! Secondly, they were very eggy, tasted like scrambled eggs. Third, they were so greasy you could wring out the grease. Fourth, the cannoli filling wasn't the same as it has always been, it was beyond sweet, I couldn't even eat it. Lastly, this isn't the first time I have had an issue with them, their products have gone down hill. I miss my old bakery by my Westown area, I'm too far from them now. So I happen to drive by this place going home. They close at 6, it works for me, I have been craving almond pastries this week. So i brought 3 massive almond pastries, plenty to share even two ppl can eat one! I also got the rice pudding, omg reminded me so much of the old fashioned Greek rice pudding that I grew up on! The girls was very nice here and contrary to other reviews on service I'll be back. They make you want to buy the cookies and pastries, cake slices, like one of each but I'm fasting so I deserve a treat we all do every once in a while, but this is the place!!! Smells amazing too! This is now the 2nd time & was given a messy box. I did call & complain the 1st time cuz not only was it messy but apparently they didn't know the difference between pistachio (as requested) & chocolate chip. They did apologize but didn't offer no other way of a resolution. I figured perhaps it was just an honest mistake the 1st time. Now 4 weeks later & another mess. The bottom 1s were broken w/filling squished out as well. My advice, have them open the box before leaving like they used to, even if it's taped already. Always loved their famous chocolate donuts. Today I got the apple cider donuts that are so light and tasty. Cannoli are wonderful and filled just when you order. Allegretti's makes a solid entry into the local apple fritter field. They nail several key components: texture, density, glaze, and cinnamon flavor. I would say that there are only two moderate complaints: it was light on apple pieces and lacked an outer crust. I tried a few other items and I was actually pretty disappointed compared to the quality of the fritter. The chocolate eclair was okay, except that the icing was overpoweringly sugary. I sometimes eat sweets compulsively, but even I had to stop halfway through this eclair because the sucrose burn was just too overpowering. I wouldn't travel far for these apple fritters, but Norridge is relatively close to my house, so it would serve the purpose when the fritter hunger strikes. read more

Because we live in Nashville, TN and we were having a party in Chicago with family and friends we communicated with email and I was a little hesitant and probably communicated with too many emails but Kristin assured me that with the pictures I sent and the one I sketched for her all would be good and let me tell you it was better than good! I just wanted to give a shout-out to a bakery that I just used because I needed a cake for an 80th birthday party. It was my first time ever ordering a cake from Allegretti's bakery and man was it delicious! The cake was made with someone else in mind, so it wasn't to my preferences, but I gotta say that it swayed me over. All the ingredients were fresh and a perfect combination of cake, fruit, whip cream, and french cream. Everyone that had the cake loved it! Dina at Allegretti's worked with me on the size, ingredients, and design of the cake and I can't thank her enough! I'm sure Allegretti's gained a few more customers after eating the cake. I've had 2 bad experiences in a row. First went for a 4" cookie order of 150 for church. Was given a price, got it approved, went back to place the order, got a different price, so I asked for a sample of the cookie design and was told the pastry designer couldn't do it that day but to come back next day for the sample. Came back and they didn't have the cookie, didn't know what I was talking about and the pastry designer was on vacation. Obviously, I walked out and they didn't get that order. Then I was dumb enough to go back with a baby shower cake order and even brought a new customer in with me. Picked up the cake and they had no box to put it in - this was a 2 level cake. So the staff tried to make a regular box fit which made the front of the cake go up against the back of the box taking off some frosting. Cut the cake at the event and the filling was strawberry - I ordered custard! Went back after the event to ask to see my order paperwork and was told they don't keep any records like that. A waste of $150 for them to tell me I could either take them to get fixed or they would give me a $10 credit. Get fixed an hour before the event? Right. What a joke. I blame my mom and aunt. They introduced me to donuts from Allegretti's and ever since, I crave them. I dream about them. I need them. It's the only thing I've had from there thus far but, woah, talk about a beautiful donut. My favorite is the frosted cake. Their frosting is nice and crisp and the cake super moist. Today is my grandson's birthday. Daniel's favorite birthday cake is Portillo's Chocolate cake so I purchased their Chocolate Cake and stopped at Allegretti's to ask if they would simply decorate it with "Happy Birthday Daniel" - that's all - just a simple thing. Their answer was "NO" So I went to Old Mill Bakery at 4747 N. Harlem. Harwood Hts, Illinois and they said, no problem - and no charge. Long story short - I then purchased a 6" Ambrosia cake for $25.51. That's service. From now on Old Mill has my future business. It's not that Allegretti's isn't a fine bakery but they just need to learn that customer service pays off in the long run and doesn't get bad reviews.
