I usually buy all my Allen Edmonds from Nordstrom, but they were running a great promotion and I had to come in to check it out. The moment I arrived I was helped immediately by Byron Q. The first thing I noticed was his professional demeanor and how sharp he kept this shoes. He was sporting McAllister Wingtip Oxfords in Dark Chili leather - a beautiful shoe. I came in to just to try out sizes and pick up a pair of Strand's in Merlot leather, but ended up spending an hour in the store trying on more footwear and checking out the rest of their merchandise. I looked at their belts, trees, socks, accessories, and leather care kit. Byron made sure to show me all they had to offer and gave me a lesson on the manufacturing and maintenance of all their products. In the end, I happily spent over 5 times what I had intended. Had it not been for the great service I received, I may have just tried the shoes in store and bought them online. I came into the the store while I was out shopping to get sized for a pair and was greeted with a couple of unwelcoming looks. When I asked about the possibility of getting sized, the two workers looked at each other as if I trying to decide whether they should say yes or no. Eventually, one said to the other, "do you want to do it?" to which the associate begrudgingly said, "yeah sure". I sat down thinking I was gonna have my length and width measurements taken. However, the associate said sternly, "please stand up" and took my length measurement quickly before saying, "It's the fourth of July weekend, don't you have anything better to do?". He stood up without another word and came back a few minutes later with some old park avenues that he said were a size 8. He quickly slipped on the shoe onto my right foot and said "yes that's a good fit there. 8 and a half medium works well". When I asked about a width letter, he barked at me, "what did I just say? 8 and a half medium". Lastly, as I was explaining what and where I was thinking about buying, in terms of Allen Edmonds shoes, he got up and left. HE LEFT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SENTENCE. I was the only one in the store so I know he wasn't going to help anybody else out. I have a pair of Allen Edmonds but they never fit quite right. I was hoping to get sized a second time to compare the shoe size but I was met with such an awful service and a bitter experience. The store associates were unhelpful, rude, and downright condescending. I left the store without accomplishing anything and wondered if that is what Allen Edmonds is selling along with their shoe. This is a review for the service at this store ( I bought the shoes online) I came here on Sunday March the 2nd around around 330 pm - so corporate you can look up who was here if you care. Came in to get fitted and sized. The cashier came up to greet me and I told him I'd like to double check my size since Allen edmond's website suggested I do so because their print out sizing chart wasn't as good. The man with the curly hair told me "oh you can get sized once you bring the shoes in". The guy really didn't want to measure my size if I wasn't going to buy anything there. Oh really? I knew this was total bullshit so I insisted. Finally, after I wasn't going to leave, he reluctantly agreed to measure my size . Their website advertises an original American company. My review is for the service I received at the store, not the product itself. I own a couple of pairs of Allen Edmonds that I purchased online over the past year. I live 45 miles from the nearest Allen Edmonds store so I have been using the printout fitting guide which is not the most accurate tool. After doing extra research on the brand and the pride taken in the website, I decided to take a drive to get fitted at the store since the yelp reviews convinced me it was worth the trip. I introduced myself to the salesperson and told him that the current pair I own wasn't the best fitting pair of shoes I own and would like to get fitted so I can know what size to buy on my next purchase. I mentioned that I live pretty far (over an hr away) and he then started to brag that customers come from Las Vegas and Germany to this location just to buy the shoes. When it came time to looking at the shoes, I felt like I had to force him to get me fitted since he kept asking me to tell him what pair I wanted to buy before he would measure me for that particular shoe. I told him that my current pair fits a little loose and he just said I should buy a size smaller (obviously). He didn't seem too happy assisting me. I finally started to feel uncomfortable and left. The bottom line is I drove 45 miles so I can get fitted for a brand of shoe that I see great value in and ended up leaving with no knowledge of what my size is and a bad taste in my mouth from bad service from a company that promotes quality and service. read more

This review is not about the quality in shoes but the service at this store. Drove 1 hour to this particular store. I walked in and the two employees one young (20s?) one old (50s) just looked at me, not much of a friendly greeting. Ok i let that go, no big deal. I went to the back of the store where the Dalton boots because that was what i was going to buy. I waited for one of the guys to come and ask if i needed help. Finally after a few minutes and sitting there I grabbed the pair and went to the front of the store and asked for my size. They finally got my pair and brought them out to me. I tried them on checked out and left. The elder fellow just glanced no thank you, that's great service. You would think a high end mens shoe store would have better service. I get better service from ALDO. I mean i spend $400+ for crappier service than if i spend $50 at another store. This is a great store with excellent service. First they measure your foot, most of us just check the length, here they also check the width of your foot and the measurement is done on both the feet. They they will find shoes for you which fit perfectly, you do not have to break them in. The choice in my size was limited. The shoes I wanted were not available. I wanted a Bostonian type of shoe well they said they will ship it to me in a three days which is know a week. I will be patiently waiting. The shop looks beautiful just as all the shops in this awesome Costa Mesa Mall. Besides food and wine, shoes and fashion are a weakness. I love classic shoes, like wing tips. But I also have no problem having my wing tips in brown suede and in brown leather/tan linen, either. Or monk straps. Double monk straps. Blue bucks. And so on. I have maybe 35 pairs of shoes, which I'm guessing is on the high end for most guys. My feet are biggish (12) and wide. I'm hard to fit. My favorite shoes come from Allen Edmunds. They have lots of styles, most in fact, in my 12EEE size. (They have shoes in widths from the narrowest up to EEE.). Their shoes are not cheap, but they are made to last. And most can be re-furnished by AE to near-new condition for a fraction of the cost of a new pair. This shop in South Coast Plaza has most of the current styles. If you find something you like and it's not in the store, they will ship free to your home. If you buy from AE online and you need to return or exchange what you brought, you can bring them in. If you are a shoe junky and haven't yet tried AE, stop in. I was really let down by the customer service at this location. I had to ask for help despite 3 or 4 employees who seemed to be available. The employee I spoke with seemed annoyed that I had done my research online before coming into the store. He said factory seconds wouldn't be the same size even though the website says cosmetic defects only. They didn't have my size and the employee offered no solution. I've been wearing Allen Edmonds for almost 20 years. I love the shoes, but I'm not thrilled with the store. I visited the store to purchase a pair of Waltons in brown chili. The sales clerk politely informed me the store does not carry that shoe in that color. I explored plan B and asked if she had a different shoe in brown chili in my size. Nope. She then told me she could order the pair I wanted to begin with. Well, I can do that for myself; having her do it doesn't solve the problem. I've said it before, and I'll say it again now. Brick and mortar stores need to get it together if they expect to survive. For the vast majority of things, the only reason to get in my car and drive to your store is to get what I want today. What justifies spending $300-$700 on a pair of shoes? Allen Edmonds' quality and experience. The shoes are phenomenal, well made and insanely comfortable. I purchased a two pairs on 11/23/15 from this location, was respectfully greeted and assisted by Sean (who knows his stuff), and got measured in store. If I hadn't gone in and gotten measured I would have ordered the wrong size online for sure. Sean was able to look at the shoes I was wearing when I walked in and instantly knew they were the wrong size for me. He explained to me how he could tell and it was very interesting. Another benefit to seeing the shoes in person is that they differ slightly from the pictures offered in the catalog. Sean assured me that the shoes should feel snug, not tight, he said "just wait 'til you break them in, they'll feel like a glove" I usually prefer roomier shoes, but I trusted his opinion. I was doubtful when I got home and wore my shoes, they were somewhat stiff and uncomfortable and I was considering exchanging them for a larger size. I wore them for 4 more days and it was like magic, they broke in and felt as if they were made just for me. So if I can offer any advice, it is to trust the Allen Edmonds' associates, they will help you get the most out of your shoes. read more

My first time buying a REAL pair of shoes was a success! I was helped by Sean Peters, my new (and first) shoe guy. He was very attentive. He knows his stuff, and will make sure your shoe fits properly the first time. He has a great sense of humor and was very sociable. My girlfriend also enjoyed being there (he had a conversation with her as well). As for the shoe, I have to break it in. It hurts a bit, bu that's how it goes for the first few weeks with new shoes. I purchased the Strand in walnut, and I've worn them once and received numerous compliments. Now I just need my belt to arrive and I'll be set. I'm not much of a dress shoe person. Since I had recently bought some tailored suits I figured the next step was to get some great quality shoes to go along with them. After some research online, I decided to stop by the AE shop close to the Porshe place. Sean, one of the workers there, helped me pick out my shoes and I have no regrets at all. His knowledge about dress shoes and customer service were excellent. The shoes I bought were the Mcallisters and they look and feel great. I would definitely return to AE to buy my next pair of dress shoes. Allen Edmonds is definitely worth the money. Excellent product and superb customer service. The leather that they use is like no other. My shoes have barely creased after months of wear and the leather just gets more and more comfortable. I had a pair of Cole Haan that I purchased from Nordstrom that showed much more wear in the same timeframe and was ultimately destroyed after a year of wear. I was fitted by Sean and he spent a lot of time explaining the anatomy of my feet to me and how they would fit into my new shoes. Since I was flat footed, he demonstrated a way to lace my shoes so that I would get the best support and not get bowing in my shoes around the ankles. Needless to say I've had a great time wearing Allen Edmonds. The shoes fit like a glove and provide comfort for 8 to 10 hour days at work. Nick is a terrific salesman as well. He is soft spoken, gentle, and kind. He showed a lot of patience when I tried on my shoes and it made for a very comfortable purchasing experience. I bought 4 pairs of shoes from him recently (Strand, McAllister, Park Ave, and Fifth Ave) and it actually saddens me that I won't be getting to buy shoes from him that much anymore since these shoes last so darn long! Definitely coming in to see him when I need my shoes recrafted or I need to restock on shoe care supplies. Overall I'd recommend Allen Edmonds. As a long time Allen Edmonds customer Ive become increasingly disenchanted with the quality and customer service particularly associated with this store at South Coast Plaza. Candidly speaking, the store manager Dan Stratton is incompetent. After ordering shoes nearly two months ago online, I received some damaged goods so I was forced to go into the store for exchange. I travel often as I'm a consultant, I only have one day a week and the last thing I want to do is spend my time at South Coast Plaza... As I'm sure you all can understand. When I went in I was met by Store Manager - Dan Stratton who was very helpful in the store. When I placed my order, I requested to have my item shipped to my home, providing Dan my driver's license so he could get my accurate address. However, unfortunately Dan seemed to misunderstand and had my items shipped to the store, so I was unable to get my shoes as expected...over 1 month ago. Again, I'm only home one day a week and sometimes it's after hours so I don't have time to go to the mall to pick up shoes. I contacted and notified him of the situation he then tried to ship them to my house but apparently using the wrong address as three attempts were supposedly made by FedEx but without a single time that anyone ever came to my door or provided me a single door tag of evidence of any attempt. I have a security system and have camera evidence which I provided to FedEx as I again had to spend my time, three additional days of the one week that I actually was home on bench, chasing down the packages that Dan screwed up so I filed the complaint with FedEx. I again had to contact Dan as I had to have the item shipped back to the store and would be out of the country. After a month, and tired of the lack of communication or followup from the 'Store Manager' I elected now contact 800 customer service. I've spoken to them on three attempts today alone and was told each time by customer service representative that they would personally contact me back to have an overnight shipment from the warehouse directly to my home but I never received a call back from anyone! I'm absolutely horrified at this point and in awe of this absolute organization wide incompetence! I refuse to do business with the store or 'Incompetent Dan' as he's beyond 3 strikes your out! At this point, I demand my shoes be shipped directly from Warehouse, yet Dan continues to harass me by contacting me and leaving messages causing me international charges because he cannot let go of the sale despite the fact that he dropped the ball 3x and screwed up the transaction from the gate!!!! It's been well over a month and I do not have the two pairs of shoes that I PAID FOR!!! I would never do business with thud store or Dan Stratton EVER again. They're absolutely antiquated, lethargic dinosaurs and should not be working in a retail establishment. I will again be contacting customer service in the morning to once again cancel the store shipment and demand to have a consumer experience supervisor have my shoes shipped overnight from the warehouse!! But I am often treated as a second class citizen when I go shopping at high end retail stores, maybe because I look so young, or dress casually on my days off. Whatever the case, I really appreciate when I am treated with respect and it makes a difference on whether I will return to that store. I was helped recently by James Lawrence, one of the managers, and it was exceptional service. He's friendly, professional and I bought a great shoe that fits me better than any men's dress shoe I've ever owned (McAllisters in case you are curious). Amazing. Having purchased two pairs of AE shoes (Sanford and Spencer) in Size 5E back in the '90s, I recently discovered them to feel a little tight due to my having to wear business suits for work now. To my dismay, I noticed that AE no longer offers shoes smaller than Size 6; Size 6.5 in certain styles. I made the mistake of ordering online, buying two pairs of AE shoes (McAllister and Strand) in Size 6D as a basis to start my work wardrobe with. Wondering if I had made a smart purchase, I decided to pop in on the AE shop at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa to try on the shoes in the size I had purchased. I had the good fortune of meeting Sean Peters, the assistant store manager, who promptly allowed me to try on a pair of Size 6D shoes and subsequently evaluated the fit. Sadly, Sean told me that Size 6 was too big and that D was too narrow. Sean measured me to be a Size 5.5E... As the sinking feeling that I wouldn't be able to wear a new pair of AE shoes again began to set in, Sean enthusiastically told me that, providing that they have the uppers available, the AE factory could custom craft me shoes in my size/width for a nominal surcharge. I sheepishly admitted to Sean about my purchase from the AE website and he was quick to offer several suggestions to remedy my dilemma: ship the shoes back or return them to the store for a refund. I asked Sean if I could simply order up the McAllister and Strand shoes in the appropriate size and pay for the custom fee, and Sean made arrangements to make this possible! I also asked Sean if I was only limited to certain shoes, but he told me that as long as the shoes I wanted are constructed with a leather sole and that the factory had the upper available, anything could be made for me! In about three weeks time or so, I'll be the proud owner of a pair of McAllister wingtip oxfords, a pair of Strand cap-toe oxfords, and a pair of Jomoc derby shoes (I couldn't help myself...)! Thanks, Sean, for creating a monster out of me! If you have smallish (or overly large) feet, don't hesitate to drop in this store to speak with Sean or another associate! First of all, I want to give top marks on the excellent customer service provided by Dan Stratton at this store back on Sunday, October 25, 2016. My father and I went inside and loved the quality of the shoes. Dan fitted my shoe size and based on the fitting, I had my eyes set on a pair of Boulder Venetian Loafers in black and brown and McAllister Wingtip Oxfords in black. Upon trying them both on, these two shoes fitted like a hand in glove, even though the Wingtip Oxfords were not available in black in my size inside the store. Dan mentioned that the black Wingtip Oxfords can be ordered from the Port Washington, WI facility to my location via UPS and with that, I was completely sold. I bought both shoes and later that Sunday tried on the loafers for a longer time in which I have worn them daily for work as well as excursions throughout Southern California. The Wingtip Oxfords arrived yesterday via UPS and tried them on and voila...just as perfect as the loafers. I will use the Wingtip Oxfords very soon for work. The Allen Edmonds shoes are top class shoes and the customer service, as personified by Dan Stratton, is even more top class. Dan definitely knew the functionality of each shoe as well as the contents of the shoe when I was trying them on and that helps quite a lot in terms of a purchase. On one of these occasions I decided to stop by for a pair of boots. For reasons I can only assume are due to my dress attire, I was made to feel as if I did not belong in the store. Yelp calls a 5 star rating "as good as it gets!" and I can agree that that was my experience on May 11th at the Allen Edmonds store in South Coast. When you go, be sure to ask for Sean Peters. My father and I went into the store to explore recrafting options for his older shoes and look at new options. Sean was quick to approach us after we had settled and were looking around. Even though he was serving another client, he made sure we knew we were noticed. Once he finished with that client, Sean turned what we thought was going to be a transaction into an experience. He walked us through the recrafting options for my father's old McAllisters which he passed on to me as a graduation gift which we really appreciated, along with teaching about proper care for the shoe which I had been neglecting. We walked through the options of shoes, looking at "what's cool" today for a young professional (me) and an older guy approaching retirement (my dad). Sean was very knowledgeable while also having the right amount of humor and care. We finally settled on a new pair of McAllisters which fit like a glove. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of service Sean brings to his craft, his care for his clients, and the quality of the product he sells. I hope to pass on my shoes to my own son one day. I stopped by at the AA today to check out their collections. Their products speak for themselves but I am here to complement about the service. I was greeted by a gentlement behind the counter who was working on lableling repair needed shoes. He approached me and my girl friend without pressure, which I liked bc now days if you walk in to a store, especially high end store, its very difficult to shop in peace.
