OUTSTANDING Restaurant!!! A Must go-to spot. One-of-a-kind Mediterranean restaurant. The food and the staff are amazing. Warm, friendly and so accommodating. BYOB and also has outdoor seating. Food has a turkish sensibility. We have gone here 3 times and here is our food review. Falafel is cooked to perfection, crispy outside and soft inside.NOT greasy at all. Filling is mixed with delicous herbs giving a green tinge. Oh-so good! Lentil soup is light, gently and perfectly spiced. Not thick, a lovely puree. Cold Turkish Salad. So fresh and refreshing. Served cold. It is a Turkish version of ratatouille of a sort. Vegetables are cooked nicely and still have a little bite to them. The spices are on point. Unique and special dish. Shish Twood (Chicken Kabab) The best we have EVER eaten. Large pieces of chicken that are so wonderfully spiced (but not spicy). So moist and tender. Rice is amazing. Again so flavorful! They sometimes have bulgar which is equally delicous (my favorite). A special item that is rarely found in restaurants. Chicken Shawarma. Similar spices to the Kabob, small pieces of moist and tender chicken. Not dry like is often found at other places. Kufta Kubob. Mix of minced lamb and beef, again perfectly seasoned and grilled. Moist and delicious. Great yogurt sauce on the side. Thick and flavorful. Kufta Kabab Pan with tomato sauce. Same meat mix as the Kabob except in is a large,round patty and is underneath a light tomato sauce. Lamb Chops. So delicous! Tender and moist and perfectly cooked to medium as requested. Generous serving. Another perfectly spiced dinner. Mixed Grill. Kufta kabab, chicken kabab, and steak. The steak was delicous..tender and moist. Generous serving and a nice way to sample everything. This restaurant is a very mixed bag. The food is excellent. There was a daily special and we were brought small, complimentary samples of the dish before we placed our order so we could try it which was a pleasant surprise. So many issues with the service and ambience. Very wilted fresh flowers were on all of the tables - get rid of them! The photos on the website should be upgraded, as, based on the pictures, we expected a restaurant with linen tablecloths not plain wood tables (with those aforementioned wilted flowers). There was a small dish of complimentary olives and marinated veggies, but we had no small plates on which to put anything so we were putting the olive pits on the table and not sampling the vegetables. The complimentary daily special that had been brought to our table had to be eaten from the plate, even though there were 4 of us at the table - you need to have small plates for each of your customers We brought a bottle of wine since the restaurant is a BYOB. Instead of opening the bottle for us, they brought over a corkscrew and left it on the table! I have NEVER had that happen. It was a bottle opener that none of us had ever used before and we ended up breaking the cork in the bottle. The couple at the table next to us asked us if they were supposed to go up to the counter to place their order because no one had come to the table to help them. This was not a busy night, as there were numerous empty tables around us - I shudder to think what the service is like when they are busy! We asked two times for containers to take home our leftovers. Finally we went to the cashier to ask again for a third time. At this point, although we would have ordered coffee and dessert, we had been there so long due to the slow service that we just asked for the check and actually joked about going around the corner to Dairy Queen for some ice cream. Again, the food was very good, but there are so many other issues which the owners need to resolve. Provide some training to your wait staff. If you are going for a more upscale vibe, maybe provide shirts to your staff so they don't look like ran out of the house to come to work. Pay attention to details like the flowers; people having to put pits on the table because they don't have plates; paying attention to your customers by stopping back at the table to ensure that everything is good and no one needs anything; and please - open wine bottles for your customers. There is a lot of potential here, but refinements have to be made. read more

We came in on Friday at 6pm. No problem getting a table. The owner/chef does pretty much everything. She took our order and cooks the food using family recipes (with the assistance of other cooks). Two of us had the vegetarian platter which was a nice assortment, hummus and pita was great, moussaka was good, falafel were fantastic. My husband had the gyro platter which was also excellent. We tasted the difference in the food quality. We suspected that they make everything from scratch, they confirmed it after our meal. All from scratch, including the labneh. I love labneh, but it often tastes similar and not quite as good as I remember people making it years ago. This place has labneh that is unique, homemade, and wow. It stands apart and high above the rest. The veggie mezzo($22) sampler is a must. Absolutely delicious. The falafels are homemade and the by far better than anything I've had in NYC or anywhere else in Jersey. I usually try to find something that can be improved upon and leave it in my comments. But I have zero feedback. I'll definitely return, hopefully often. The gyro wrap($14) was very good, but next time, I'll probably try a falafel wrap. This is my new favorite place. The food here is amazing. The best lentil soup my husband and I have ever had and the chicken and rice is consistently flavorful. We order delivery from here often via DoorDash but decided to go in person last week. The service was exceptional - we received a warm greeting when we walked in and pleasant conversation throughout. Sandra (I believe that's her name - she's the head of the kitchen and was also working as our waitress) was so welcoming to our 18 month old and she brought him extra pita when she realized how much he loved it. First time here - good experience. The place is casual but very nice inside with tables outside. The food seems to be middle eastern Mediterranean and we had salads and meat things were all fresh and nicely done. Mixed grill had combination of beef, lamb and chicken, nicely seasoned rice and salad. Had the labneh with some dried herbs and kind of mediocre at best olive oil. Moderate prices. Absolutely delicious amazing experience every time we come to this charming middle eastern cafe. I highly recommend the mixed meze plate to start. The falafel and baba were some of the best I've ever had. Everyone at the table liked the Shepard's salad, even people who don't eat salad. Very flavorful and herb-y. Loved! The entrees and wraps were all great, too. The wraps are great and filling for dinner. Comes with fries or a salad. I love the chicken and the falafel. I had the Musaka platter, an eggplant dish, which I mistakenly assumed would be similar to Greek moussaka. Well .. I loved it! This dish was sauteed eggplant chunks, along with tomato chunks and onions served in a delicious red sauce unlike any sauce that I'd had. My wife enjoyed the kufta kabab wrap. I asked what heritage this food came from and found it was Jordanian. The restaurant had been recently, and delightfully, renovated. We went for the first time and really enjoyed the food. It is BYO drinks and a liquor store is right next door. We had falafel, hummus, and burek for starters. As main course we had moussaka, beef shawarma and Gyros sandwiches. Our Son said it was the best gyros he's ever had. And that's a big statement for him. But I must agree, it was really good. Probably also my favorite from the dinner. Moussaka was different than I am used to so I was not amazed by that. prefer baked layers of eggplant and other vegetables to their version. But it's OK. The toast was nice and soft, not nothing particularly amazing. For $6.50 plus $0.50 per topping, which was a decent deal. The service speed was pretty fast and the staff members are friendly. This place definitely has a nice classic local brunch place kind of vibe to it. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Overall, Allendale Corner Cafe is a solid place to go for breakfast or brunch. I can't count how many times my chum and I looked around this restaurant in total confusion. Allendale Corner looks like a diner that decided within the last week that it wanted to be something else. They have the luncheonette counter and stool setup that you associate with coffee, eggs, bacon and other standard American diner breakfast staples, but there's a makeshift banner outside proclaiming it's a Mediterranean restaurant, and the menu is heavily influenced that way as well (the aforementioned breakfast staples are there, but I'd say more as a supporting character). Also hinting at an odd transition - there was a collection of four or five hookahs just hanging out on the side of the counter. Were they there as part of a random decorating scheme? Did the restaurant intend to circulate them amongst the customers later in the day? Unclear. We stopped by for brunch on a nippy Saturday morning. True to its name, it's right on the corner of a quiet small town roundabout that I assume is much busier during the week, especially since it's a block away from the train station. They don't have a foyer or partition to separate the customers from the door outside, so it was still a little chilly at our table, despite being seated well into the restaurant - we kept our coats on throughout the meal. I ordered the Deluxe Allendale Platter, which was comprised of two eggs (scrambled), white toast, home fries and turkey sausage. It was just okay; the sausage and eggs were average and the toast in my opinion was overdone and a little tough to bite into. They also didn't come with butter, and we had to hail down the waitress to get some onto our table. The real star though was the home fries, very nicely seasoned with a Cajon flavoring. Definitely the best item I had here. My chum had a cheesesteak wrap (also fine), with a side of fries that looked perfectly crispy. She was a fan of the fries, so apparently this place's wheelhouse is the almighty potato. The service was okay (seeing a theme?). Our waitress was pretty solid and prompt in terms of obtaining our orders and stopping by to check on us, but it took a little longer than it should have for the food to arrive. Nothing we ordered was insanely complex, but I'd say it took about 35 minutes for the entrees to arrive. Not a big deal, but if you're coming here on a schedule, I'd take that under advisement. From my vantagepoint, it looked like the restaurant may have gotten quasi-slammed with takeout orders that would explain that, but I think a more experienced waitress would have apologized for and explained the wait and/or tried to expedite the orders with the kitchen. I got the impression that this was very much a family operation, with the waitress possibly the teenage daughter of the owner/guy in the kitchen, so the dynamic may have made that awkward. She was very nice though, and I certainly didn't think any of that was a dealbreaker. The bathroom could definitely use some spiffing up - you shouldn't notice cleaning supplies before you notice any of the decorating schemes in there. Also as an aside, there's a weird sign on the inside of the door that I think was an awkward attempt at humor - one of those disclaimers not to flush the unflushable, but ended with a phrase like, "if you didn't eat it, it shouldn't be in the toilet bowl." Ew. Neither of us tried the Mediterranean food, so it's entirely possible that we missed out on their biggest selling point. Even having not eaten it, I'd recommend trying that before the American diner food - there are a lot of places in the vicinities that have better options in that regard. read more

We went to the Allendale Mediterranean Grill for the first time, last Friday for dinner and were so well treated by Susu (spelling?), Abdul and Abdel! They made our dinner experience even nicer. Susu (spelling?) was excited by our interest in their food, as that was our first time there. We asked for suggestions as to what people seem to enjoy the most and they suggested some appetizers and an entree. We had their Hummus, Falafel, Dolma and Kibbe appetizers and it was hard to say which one(s) were the best, as they were all delicious! We have had these at other restaurants, but Allendale Mediterranean Grill does something a little different with each, which makes them so delicious. We also had their Tabouleh, which I must say is one of the best I have ever had. For the entree, we shared the House Mix Grill, which includes Shish Tawook, Shish Kabab, Kafta Kabab and Beef Shawarma. It was so well prepared and a real pleasure to eat. We have eaten here twice and love the food, but I don't feel comfortable returning. The man who seems to co-own the restaurant does not seem to be a conscientious server but insists on taking orders and serving food, sometimes the wrong food, which leads to no courtesy or apology, just insistence that we ordered that dish that he has in his hand when we did not. The larger problem occurred a couple days ago when they charged us more than the prices on the menu. The prices on our "bill" looked odd. I'm a numbers person and remembered different costs for each of the two dishes, so I got up to get a menu and, sure enough, the prices were different. The woman co-owner came to the table having noticed me getting the menu. I asked her why the prices are different and she responded in a very matter of fact manner that the new menus with higher prices are coming soon, but all costs are going up. Had they told us prior to ordering food I would have simply asked how much each of the two dishes were and we probably would have happily ordered both dishes for dinner. But being told after we ate felt like lazy trickery, not honest or neighborly. That was pretty shocking. And no apology or anything of the sort. Had either of them said "oh my gosh we are telling everyone about the higher prices as they order but we simply forgot to tell you" I would have completely gotten past it immediately because people make mistakes. I know I do!!!! I cannot return here, but I truly hope they read this review and address these issues and, subsequently, enjoy many years of profitable success serving their delicious food. read more

While I have been here many times & have never once been disappointed (except for 2 times they were unexpectedly closed) todays visit was even better than usual. It was years ago, shortly after the new owners took over, when we got to meet the new chef/owner & she took the time to explain exactly where all of their flavors came from and their plans for the place, and we had one of the best meals ever. A favorite seasoning of mine is za'atar because of her. I enjoy middle eastern food & loved everything they had - I know what i like & they had everything I like, plus more adventurous stuff. Today was one of those exceptional days when the chef/owner was there & she took the time to give us the best possible lunch ever. We ordered several appies & the shepherds salad. The hummus was, without a doubt, the best hummus I have ever had & its a staple in my house. Later I reheated some of the things we took home & enjoyed them as much as if they had just been served. So to update my review, I ate here again, this time for dinner. The only "miss" is the stale pita bread, it's terrible! I don't understand, there are so many amazing Turkish bakers in Paterson, why are they serving this terrible pita with their delicious food? Or at least make their dried out pita into pita chips.
