Absolutely the worst pharmacy i have ever walked into. Not sure what was going on but there were various kids and homeless looking people on the floor with various prescriptions and medication bags all over the place. I walked in and was only told to wait outside. Nobody had any form of uniform or name tags on anyone. Seemed like some huge drug deal scheme was going on in there. Very overwhelmed by the amount of medication bags and medications scattered all over the store with random people handling them. Allen's is an amazing from their drivers to their staff. Unfortunately our insurance and doctors dont always get it right and anger is directed to people that are doing there jobs. When medication is being tampered with, pharmacists are being tasked with having to be extra diligent for our safety. Allen's has highly trained staff and takes great time in making sure everything is done right. I appreciate Reed taking the time to deal with my insurance and doctor to explain and work everything out to help. Customer service is a lost art. Seriously, I am lazy. I hate and I procrastinate on picking up my birth control pills, asthma inhalers and monthly medications that I need to stay healthy. So when my friend Christy's husband took over at Allen Pharmacy, well I thought I'd give it a try since she told me that they can mail your prescription to me, thus eliminating the need to trek down to a pharmacy, park and wait in line on a certain day each month when I realize that I am on my last pill! It's awesome. They call your doctor for you and get your prescription. They even transferred over all my prescription from the PB Savon and the Hillcrest Savon. They send it out to me every month and auto charge the credit card. He even calls to remind me or ask if I need anything else. Also, Marcus, who also works there is super friendly and super helpful. They really go out of their way to make everything work for you. When my BF's insurance got canceled because the company went bankrupt, they called the doctor, and found a generic and priced it out for us. Obviously if you got sick and needed something right away by all means, trek down to your pharmacy and get what you need to get well. But if you live near downtown, they also deliver in person. Even after I moved to NorCal I continued using them. And I have never had a problem at all, they are so on top of it. Medicine that comes to my door? Cheaper or the same price as my current pharmacy? No having to stress each month about getting my birth control pill refilled on time? No parking hassles? That's where Allen Pharmacy comes in. Not a very clean place. Plus the girl behind the desk seems to be more concerned with her cell phone than service. The place is really disorganized and cluttered. Im also upset about the error in miscommunication from last week. I went in after calling in the morning to get a perscription filled. It is on the southwest corner of the intersection of Fourth Ave and C St. The big negative for me is that there is no convenient on-street parking within easy walking distance. read more

Horrible experience with Allen Pharmacy, today. Pharmacist would only give 1st name, forgotten for now. His license doesn't require reveal of complete name & license # to those he sells drugs? News to me. Previous Dr. set up no co-pay at Allen, saved me lots of $1 and $2 charges. Wicked social anxiety disorder, can't walk far, no 'shopping' for pharmacy. Some of us are sick when we call our pharmacy. Allen Pharmacy cannot handle talking to sick people. Allen Pharmacy will not 'tend' to your prescription refills. First problem, they stop and tell no one. Three weeks, two calls fom me and one from my caregiver, yet still no meds, no calls from pharmacy, just wait, get sicker, and wonder. The Allen pharmacist laughed at me for asking for accommodations for my disabilities by him & Allen Pharmacy's paid (professional?) phone answerers--extra patience, gentler vocabulary, voice modulation, de-escalation instead of escalation, intro to kindness, etc. I didn't actually list those items, I repeatedly described my situation, my illnesses, and that above all I wanted my meds, not a discussion of their problems with my insistence. I did not swear or threaten or call anyone names. Instead, this trained, licensed, professional pharmacist stubbornly argued with me, an 'admitted' actively emotionally and mentally ill patient, over his personal issues and trivialities. Only solution offered was STFU and go away. No empathy. Arrogant, sarcastic, he openly and publicly, with the speaker on and workers laughing in the background, enjoyed mocking me and demonstrating his imaginary 'power' over me. He hurt me as he intended. That's no way to treat sick people, let alone long-time customers. Finally, though he told me on the phone he was going to fax my Dr. to get the refills, important because it's Friday and his boss isn't in till Monday. I had to take his word for it. Instead, he called my doctor's office and told them he wasn't going to be filling my prescriptions any more starting now. Allen Pharmacy. Customers do not matter. Sick customers matter less. Unprofessional, lacking important skills in order fulfillment, lacking basic communication skills, lacking all semblance of customer service, and they employ a pharmacist who illegally hides his identity from those to whom he sells highly regulated drugs. Avoid for your own good. An honest review on Yelp is much better than throwing rocks at his head, I suppose. 8-) read more

They're a great pharmacy until you have a problem. They sent me the wrong insulin once and my doctor had to argue with them to fix the problem for nearly an hour. She's a specialist, an endocrinologist, so her time is valuable. Now, they failed to send me one of my medications. I said that "mistakes happen" and he insisted that I was "calling him a liar" which I was in no way calling him that. We're human after all and mistakes are made. But they refused to give me my medications and were trying, I think, to provoke me so they could hang up on me; I'm guessing. I really don't know what there intentions were. Anyways, they are very unprofessional and rude under these circumstances. Other than these two incidents they were great and I always referred them to people looking for a "good pharmacist" but I don't think I can any longer refer them to my friends. I don't understand why they would treat me this way, especially since I have been using them for 10 years with no track record of complaints or problems. Being made out to be a problem patient is so unnerving and bad for my depression. I felt suicidal afterwards. I hope this never happens to anyone else. read more

So tonight is the second night I have spent waiting like a jackass for delivery that doesn't show. The first time (EDIT: this was months ago), the person I spoke with on the phone said my delivery would arrive by 9pm and they never showed and never let me know they weren't coming. This was a Saturday night so I had to wait until Monday to find out that my doctor needed to approve the refill. Today the person I spoke with told me it would deliver by 5pm and when I called at 5:15 to check on it I was put on hold forever because the person thought I was trying to update the delivery address when I told her I already updated the address when ordering the refill. Then I get transferred to someone who tells me that there was a note to deliver after 6pm from previous orders. The person that took the order didn't bother to check the notes and verify or at least update it for the driver even though I specifically asked him what time it would arrive and he said by 5. So then he says it will deliver by 9pm. Here I am at almost 10:30 with no updates and no delivery. read more

I love this pharmacy, because in the 4 yrs I've used them they have never failed me. Patrick, their lead pharmacist, has always smiled at me and done his job with high efficient capacity. Truly, a smart man. I can honestly say that I love keeping my money local with this company. They also deliver, so ask them what the limitation are there. Allen's has been much more reliable lately so than my previous review no longer reflects my judgement of their service. I have been receiving my prescriptions by mail and that has worked out surprisingly well. Usually they get them in the mail the same day I order them and I receive them the next day in my mailbox. For me that's better than waiting all day for their delivery person to show up, sometimes as late as 7:00 pm. You have to sign for them, so if you miss him he takes the prescriptions back to the pharmacy. Allen's is extremely busy. There seems to be about 10 people constantly working at filling prescriptions and getting them ready for delivery, so of course there will be times that things run less smoothly than they should. read more

I agree with an above reviewer who says calls are NEVER returned. It doesn't matter if I say they mailed me one of three meds and I am out or I just want to renew my Rx. I have been getting my prescriptions there since the county contracted with them, and that is at least 2 years if not 3 or more. Every time I call to renew they ask for one of my Rx numbers and my name, or just my name. Then they send me my month's prescription. This is the 5th time I've had screw-ups from Allen's. This time I called, gave one Rx # as usual, told the girl it was my fault I was out, that I didn't realize. Then I said I have a little of the other 2 meds to hold me over. I was sent one medication and not the one that was empty. I have called them today, first before opening hours, then a half hour after opening and still received the message machine. This will be 5 days -- possibly 6 or 7 since it is the weekend and they're not answering -- without a med just added to my regimen 2 months ago. If I wasn't stuck with them, I wouldn't use them. I have been a patient at Allen's for over one year. Until recently the service was above average. Refills on time, delivered in a timely fashion. After the first of the year a decline in the level of service. Two weeks to get refills on my monthly prescription's. Repeated phone calls to check the status of the refills. This Wednesday I was told they would fax the MD for refills. Today I call ( Friday) and was told that no fax had been sent and they would do it today. Does anyone know what is going on?? read more

Allen pharmacy is one of the best pharmacies in San Diego. They mail the medication to your home for free, they deliver for free (however, someone has to be at your home to sign), so you do not have to be looking for parking space in downtown. The staff is always friendly, and it is the only pharmacy that i know help providers to do the tedious TARS. Other pharmacist do not even bother to do them and if you a busy doctor, it will take forever for your medical, medicare-D to approve the medication; however, this pharmacy has a lot of communication with doctors and the clinic's staff. I strongly recommend Allen pharmacy. read more

A disabled relative has a prescription that has to be filled weekly, only after weekly blood tests have been faxed to the pharmacy. I originally tried to fill through my local CVS, whom I'd used for years, but they couldn't do that particular prescription and I had to have it filled with a CVS in El Cajon, Dealing with them was not so good, and having to drive to El Cajon every week to pick up his prescription didn't sound like something I really wanted to do for the next 6 months, and would preclude my being able to go out of town this summer, at all. THEN I REMEMBERED THAT ALLEN PHARMACY DELIVERS! I called them and spoke with Irma, who personally handles this type of prescription (and Isaac sometimes fills in). They are proactive in making sure they get the fax from the lab each week (which CVS wouldn't do). They stay on top of everything and I no longer have the hassles (trying to make sure the lab faxes the pharmacy, and then make sure the pharmacy receives the fax, and then driving to El Cajon to pick it up).
