When he wrung it up on the register he charged me 32.95 per pound. When I questioned it, he yelled at the other person working there that they forgot to change the price card...and did not give me the displayed price. BAD BUSINESS. The guy was a real jerk about it...and there was nobody else in there...no wonder. Good luck keeping business if you keep acting like that...I'll never go back

The pantry offerings are relatively slim, but good. I purchased some cherry jelly that specifically is meant to be paired with cheese. There is also a supply of local produce. I grabbed a couple of onions and garlic and was wowed by some huge, beautiful Brussels sprouts. The proprietor recommended I shave them and add olive oil, honey, lemon juice, and pecorino followed by a brief refrigeration for a unique, fresh salad. I did, and my guests went gaga over it. The star of the show is the meat offerings. I did not procure any on this visit, but will be back for a stunning filet or ribeye. There is seafood, too-scallops, salmon, and sushi-grade tuna amongst other things. I bought a single premade crabcake and pan fried it at home for dinner. The best crabcake I've had outside of Dickie Brennan's. I'm racing because they deserve it.

For the uninitiated: Tasso is fast-cured, seasoned, and smoked pork shoulder. It's used in stews and simmered foods, softening as it cooks, adding a delicious, unique flavor and bite that's typical of many Southern Louisiana (read: Cajun) dishes. Tasso's difficult to describe, but you'll know it when you taste it. I just received four 1-lb. packages of tasso, shipped from Bourgeois' smokehouse in Gray, LA via FedEx 2Day. The order arrived in good shape, and though the ice packs surrounding the meats had melted, the tasso was smoked (and so, fully-cooked) and it was vacuum-sealed. It went straight into my freezer, and it'll be fine. The cost to ship from Lafourche Parish to San Diego doubled the price of the product, from $7.24/lb to around $15, but I pay that much (or more) for quality steaks and seafood, here at home, and it was my choice to spend top-dollar for meat that I know, from experience, will make my gumbo, red beans, etc. taste better than I could otherwise make them. Kudos to the folks at Bourgeois Meat Market for offering a high-quality product, and for handling the purchase and shipping in a professional manner. I like visiting their shop when I'm in the area, but I LOVE that they don't make me get on a plane to eat what they're cookin'!

There were only 2 packages left of baby lamb chops - we needed more, and the gentleman went into back room to cut more! Additionally when picking out 2 pieces of steak, he showed them to us for approval before wrapping them. Variety of sausages were diverse and he was quite knowledgeable about flavor of each. We BBQ'd steak this evening. Even though my filet mignon is cooked medium well, it was stupendous- put restaurants to shame. My husband who is a steak lover, said it was one of the best pi of meat he's ever had! We will be regularly going to Johnny Pizmo's!!!

When you walk in the front door, to the left you'll see some coolers with things like prepared potatoes, head cheese, and various meats. If you are lucky, they'll have some meatloaf ready and it's some of the best I have ever had. All require you to take them home to cook. Along the back wall is the steak selection and they have some great choices, including filet, NY strips, ribeye, pinwheels, and more. Prices vary and are slightly more than what you might find at a local grocery store, but in my opinion the cuts are superior. They recently started a lunch service where they cook up some of their own meats. They also have daily specials for around $12. The brisket was amazing and had a thick crunchy bark that I loved. They also make their own potato chips in beef tallow and they're really good, plus they have other dishes like roast, pork, and so on. I highly recommend it and the service is very quick.
