Updated after our move-in experience following the move-out after a flood. BUYER BEWARE! You will have a three-hour minimum charge. If they send extra men and they finish the job faster, you will be forced to pay each of those extra men extra money... I just lost over $200 this way, and only figured out the 3-hour minimum AFTER I tipped in cash as they were leaving after only 2 hours of work. This feels predatory and unfair, and I wanted to make sure others did not fall prey to the same issue. This was a very unpleasant sour note after an otherwise excellent experience with this company. Really outstanding service, and answered all of my questions very quickly! Excellent customer service! They also work very hard, so quick and efficient. There were 3 men that helped for the move. A lot of my things could not be put into boxes and they really wrapped the fragile items so well: couches, mirrors, tv, tables, shelves. They are very prepared. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!! This was the worst moving experience I have ever had. First off this company acts as a moving broker who subcontracts with fly-by-night moving companies near you. See that photo of the moving truck with the Alliance Moving and Storage logo. It doesn't exist. The fly-by-night company (in our case Best Choice Movers) showed up it Enterprise rental trucks. Alliance will quote you a competitive estimate and collect their referral fee from the company that Alliance subcontracts with, then the subcontracted moving company loads all your stuff in their trucks and doubles your rate. The subcontractor dictates what days they have available and will only give you 24 hours notice prior to their estimated time of arrival. If that doesn't work for you and they have to reschedule it's an additional $2,500.00. So our initial quote was under $7000.00, we paid $6000.00 up front and still had to pay an additional almost $8000.00 to get our stuff back. It should be noted they wanted an addition $2,500.00 reschedule fee as well (that didn't happen). They'll take any form of payment when they pick your stuff up, but only accept a wire transfer or cashiers check/ money order upon drop off. If you have a customer service problem and call Alliance they suddenly tell you to read the fine print on their website, that they are not a moving company they are only a "facilitator". WRONG!!! A company operating as a broker for other independent moving companies cannot decide they don't want to be regulated as such and claim they are not a moving broker. They brokered the deal, they are a broker. Additionally, almost all of our furniture was damaged and one of the movers destroyed my 65 inch flat screen television when he kicked the lower left hand corner after unwrapping it and leaning it against my wall. We will be contacting the appropriate governing agencies regarding both companies. read more

Great moving company. I sent out requests for quotes via the Yelp feature and this company was one of the firsts to respond, along with the best rates. Jeff helped me with all my questions for multiple days, down to the very fine details (what kind of plastic wrap to buy, what to do with donations, etc). I sent pictures of our small warehouse move and he was able provide an accurate quote. On the day of the move, the four movers showed up on time and did an amazing job. I would highly recommend Javier, Felix, Angel, and Delphino. They were careful with everything, yet very fast at the same time. Some heavy bookshelves were difficult to move, but they wrapped and maneuvered them with ease. It was a 7 hour job and they only took a 30 minute break to eat lunch. At the end of the day, we had some things we needed to donate, and they drove with me down to Goodwill and unloaded everything for me. I will use them again if I ever need professional movers. I contacted several movers and ultimately settled on Alliance due to my initial impressions with Jeff. He was a great person and seemed to have a caring and honest demeanor. As well, he was very prompt in responding to my emails and questions. Our things were in storage so I sent him pictures of our old house to show how much furniture we had. After I explained the layout of our new house and gave him the to and from zip codes he provided an estimate that ultimately was within $100 of accuracy. And the difference was in my favor - that has absolutely never happened in the 7 or 8 times I've hired movers. The 4 movers were beyond good, they were excellent. They arrived on time and immediately began wrapping and padding our things nicely to ensure no damage. I had 300 sq ft packed completely full and it was on the 2 floor down a long hall of an inside storage building. Those men worked hard and no one was ever standing around. In fact, it took them less than half the time to get my things loaded on the truck than the movers took putting them into the storage. Once at the new home they were super patient in setting up and helping to arrange our furniture and beds. They asked where to place boxes and did not just scatter them anywhere. All things considered, I was pleased beyond my expectations from the first through the last interaction with this company. They are absolutely top notch. read more

After 10 yrs in our 3 BR home in Chi, my husbo and I decided to move to MI. I called Alliance and got a free in-home estimate. Since we were moving long distance, I knew it was going to be pricey. The in-home estimator was awesome. He was very transparent and clear in all that would happen with my move and the price. I got three different quotes and these guys were in line with everyone else. I originally scheduled my move with a different company, but four days before the move, something told me to go with Alliance. I am so glad I went with my gut. They called the day before to confirm that 4 movers and 1 truck would be at my house between 8 and 9 AM. Day of move, Marcos calls me around 7 AM and says they're en-route and will be there close to 8. At 7:50 they arrive....I've moved in Chicago locally13 times before this...Not once have I ever had movers arrive EARLY. Marcos and his crew wrapped everything and took care loading/unloading ALL of our stuff. He and his crew have this move thing down to a science. We were completely moved into our MI house by 6 PM. They hustled and didn't break a thing. Even when we got moved in, Marcos asked me if there was anything we wanted to move around the house before they left and made sure everything was in it's place. When it was all said and done, they saved me $300 off the original estimate and made my move day stress free. I HIGHLY recco these guys. This company exceeded all my expectations and I am SO HAPPY that I decided to go with the company. I would recommend them 100%! I worked directly with Onesimo and from our first interaction, he was professional, informative, honest and clear about the expected amount of hours and employees needed to move me from a family home. He was up front about the costs and explained the estimate. As the move got closer, he checked in with me to inquire about my progress and agreed to drop off supplies. He promised to provide me with a very experienced crew. The truck arrived at 8:00 am ON THE BUTTON!! I took a picture of it for proof. The crew got to work, quickly and carefully loading my personal items. It took them the estimated time to load and there were absolutely no issues. The trucks were kept overnight due to the timing of the closing and possession of the home. I felt very comfortable knowing my belongings were in their possession. The crew had to get started later than anticipated due to the length of the closing. Onesimo and the crew were patient and understanding and when the crew arrived at my new home, they were pleasant and ready to unload. They had to work into the evening and managed to get everything into the home before the rain arrived. I had them move some pieces of furniture and they set up all the beds. My wife and I researched several moving companies before settling with Alliance Moving & Storage because our budget was tight. Their pricing was very fair and they were willing to accommodate our schedules and the fact that our belongings needed to be picked up from two separate places. There were a couple things that surprised me on moving day! Firstly, the 3-man team arrived early and was actually prepared to work exactly when they said they would be, rather than just pulling up at the scheduled time. Secondly, the truck they brought was massive AND clean! I was expecting an average size box truck with maybe a logo and obvious signs of wear and tear from being a "work truck". Boy was I wrong! Giant beautiful truck pulls up and even looked like it had just been washed or something... Needless to say, I was impressed. Not super important when it comes to hauling your stuff, but it made me feel good to know they are out to impress the client by taking care of their own gear. A couple other things that were really nice... I had my belongings thrown all over my storage unit (oops)... these guys boxed, labeled, and taped everything... Seriously?? Awesome. My wife's large antique furniture items were wrapped in several layers of plastic and all glass was protected with cardboard. They took better care of my belongings than I do. They even strapped large item to the walls of the truck to keep them from moving around. I definitely had peace of mind while following them to our second stop and the final delivery location. I even surprised these guys with a piano they weren't expecting and they quickly wrapped it up, and packed it onto the truck, which saved me another $100+ to hire a piano mover later. We have now been moved in for a few weeks and I can't begin tell you how pleased I was with the overall service. I wish I could do no stars. This place is the worst. Bruce Murray is a liar and a con artist. He sold me a $7,000 all inclusive moving package. The people who showed up to move us came in a penske truck, said they wouldn't pack half the stuff we had and would not wait for us to pack it. Then they proceeded to tell us it would be an extra $1100 to complete the move.They had no insurance, and no proof they were with Alliance. When I tried to call Bruce to confirm that these random guys with a rented truck were with Alliance I could not get a hold of anyone. I left several messages with an answering service and no one ever called me back. When I finally got a hold of someone, (Hannah the customer service manager) she called me a liar and refused to give me my $3000 deposit back. I have repeatedly tried to get a hold of Bruce Murray and he has never returned my call. read more

I called around for movers and found these guys. They were fair priced and nice on the phone. I don't ask for much. I moved my 10x10 storage unit that has large furniture, 20 something boxes and a bunch of loose crap like lamps, power tools etc . Stuff I didn't want to wrap. They were very professional and let me watch their every move. I have some quality stuff that Just can't be thrown around. They emptied the storage unit in 40 minutes! They scheduled me for 3 guys for 3 hours. All of my move was going into a house,, into the basement areas. 13 stairs down they got everything in even though I thought some furniture might not make it in and down the stairs. They had to remove 2 doors to get everything in. They did a perfect job. They put the doors back on and we're finished in 2 hours! They weren't rushing or running, just an assembly line of moving people. Very professional. I tipped them so they could buy a nice lunch for themselves. read more

Do you remember your last move? Probably not. Moving sucks so much that we all do a little memory block. The boxes, the odd shaped nonsense, the irreplaceable and totally breakable heirlooms...but while the memory is fresh on moving out it's worth writing this review. I had a similar experience with Jeff as most of the previous reviewers did. By speculation, I'd say he's a ribs guy, possibly wings with blue cheese, but not pushy about it. He'd still know how to order vegan Ethiopian when expected to do so. A worldly fellow. Most importantly, he's friendly and engaging with important questions when asking about the unholy sufferfest that you are about to endure. When talking with Jeff, you get familiar pangs about how much moving sucks, but he is there to sherpa you to the summit. In my experience, the move isn't about the chat, but about the day every stick of your furniture, and your elderly pet cat, and your hand-made baby crib, and your hand cut inlaw's family chili cook off glass trophy, and the 3000lb of crap you should have donated or thrown out is moved to your new digs. There's a lot riding on 1 day of work. Jeff, who followed up the day before to make sure my blood pressure hadn't killed me, made sure that everything was in order for his guys to show up on moving day. I'm sorry, but I really screwed the pooch on that one, Jeff. The 3 man crew showed up on moving day and rocked the block, especially since we still had 5-10 boxes to seal up and all those little annoying piles of "screw this throw it out" left. All the stuff we should have thrown out are now in my office. The moving crew crushed it. No complaints, no breaks, no worries, no hungover weirdos. It was a hell of a good crew and they did a hell of a good job. There were a few moments where something didn't go 100% to plan and they came to get me right away to make sure everything was handled to my satisfaction and they could keep going. All matters big and small were handled like 100% professionals. That was h u g e. The worst thing a mover could do would be to cover up a banged doorway or trim and leave the place never to be seen again. The few small times our movers had an issue they involved me right away and wanted my input about a resolution. I'm a reasonable person who expects a few dings and minor issues on a moving day, but the elimination of surprises was an unexpected gift. I'm quite happy to have picked Alliance for my move. The price was a little bit more than the company that I'm pretty sure was going to destroy everything I owned, but still completely reasonable for everyone to make a living wage. First time using movers and have heard horror stories before, but this was a great experience. The movers were extremely nice and helpful and just incredibly efficient/quick. Whats more, they carried everything with care. For example, the never dragged stuff across the floor or would drop things down hard, it was with care and I appreciated that a lot. Felt the service that they provided us was good until we saw our furniture that had damages. Was also kept on asking us how the service was going while they were performing the move for which any sane person would say the service is going on fine. Don't fall in trap like me. They then used this same sentence while moving when I tipped them 60$ while they were leaving and said that since I said the service was good they need to be tipped more. Does not make sense to me Our home was 1 mile away.. the old house was 1000 sft. We ended up paying 1000$ for the move Just be aware what you tell them when the move is happening when they ask how it's going and also check your furniture for damage and wall damage because they surely will be not careful with our stuff. read more

As soon as I requested a quote, I was stalked until I talked to Daniel, Salesman. Definitely felt pressured to book and boy are they expensive. Once I booked, I didn't hear from them until the 3rd party moving company contacted me 24 hours prior to confirm my move. Alliance didn't even call to confirm my inventory. I kept calling Kelly and Daniel and everyone at the company and could never get any assistance. I needed Alliance to send the movers an updated estimate and they wouldn't even do that. They overcharged me, basically took my money and peaced out. Moral of the story, both Alliance and the moving company they used were trash. Worst moving company ever and I've moved all over. I hired this company for my move and they were wonderful! The movers arrived on time, with a vehicle sized to fit all our stuff. They were fast, careful, respectful and thoughtful. They took the time to wrap our furniture so it wouldn't get damaged, carefully loaded boxes and were SO QUICK. They had our entire 2-bedroom apartment loaded into the truck in an hour and a half. When we got to our new apartment, the team unloaded just as quickly and never complained about taking my boxes of books up 3 flights of stairs. There are so many things that make this company amazing. First of all the initial in home consultation was very informative and the guy told me to go ahead and return the wardrobe boxes (that are very expensive) that they would supply them! I had gotten a couple more quotes and had another company come in lower than their quote, I called and they told me that they would match the other quote! Then our closing on our house got pushed led by two weeks not even 12 hours before the move - I called Jaggy and no only was he empathetic to our situation but we didn't get charged for having to cancel to move. Then when we finally had our new closing date with only a couple days notice and Jaggy said it was no problem they would get it done! The day of the move, the movers were professional and reliable. They were very fast and wrapped all of our furniture to protect it from the move. We had a 6 hour gap between closings and that was no problem for them. They were wonderful the entire time. Moving can easily become one of the biggest stressors of buying and selling a house.
