The views were amazing and the environment was just as great. Unfortunately, I ordered a medium rare steak per the chef's suggestion that the waiter Gino recommended. When the steak came out, it was over cooked. I asked the waiter in question and he told me I ordered a medium well steak when in fact I took his suggestion and ordered medium rare. He later apologized but by that time I had ate majority of my meal. The lack of hospitality during that exchange should be noted. The rest of the people dining with me had an enjoyable experience where they ate sea bass and lamb that they raved about. read more

Gotta say this was a pretty spectacular meal and then there's the view! We had cocktails, which were delicious. We got a killer Rhone Red and the sommelier, Lance, was charming and kept our glasses at the perfect level. We started with the stuffed peppadews, and moved onto the ahi and the crispy quail. In my experience, restaurants with great views tend to have poor food and service. Allreds has found the magic combo of breathtaking views, fantastic memorable food, and world class service. We made reservations at 530pm, right when the main dining room opens ( thus allowing us better chance at a window table) and still allowing for plenty of sunshine to accentuate the fantastic view. While most tables will have some type of view, the dozen or so window tables directly in front of the floor to ceiling windows are where you want to be. After a brief gondola ride from the Mountain Village, you enter beautifully designed iron doors, go up an elevator enter the elegant main dining room. The hostess greeted us warmly, and sat us a a window table! We avoided alcohol because we were all feeling the effects to of the 10,500 foot altitude, although the sommelier seemed very knowledgable during our brief interaction. We had two servers who tagged teamed flawlessly and made just the right amount of small talk. A gentleman three tables popped the big question to his girlfriend, she accepted, and everyone around clapped. We started with the Wagyu beef carpaccio. The beef was cut razor thin and was as delicate as butter. They paired it with a frisee type of salad sprinkled with a crunchy element that I could not identify but added to the overall texture. Next was the veal scaloppine. It had a nice texture that paired well with the sauce and salad layered on top. We ended the night by sharing the Hot Sticky Toffee Cake, essentially chopped sweetened dates with a light caramel sauce topped with homemade whipped cream. Wow is all I have to say. Not going to Allred's when you're in Telluride is like not taking a picture of you "holding up" the Leaning Tower of Pisa when in Pisa. Like not flashing the automatic camera shot while riding down Splash Mtn at Disneyland. Like . . . well, you get the idea. Why people don't take the free gondola ride 1/2 way up the mountain from town and grab a drink and maybe a snack at Allred's when in Telluride is truly a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Are ya following me here? Bottom line: Spend the money and go. It's a view worth way more than the $30 you're gonna spend for a couple of jalapeno peach margaritas (one of their specialty cocktails). (But tell 'em to not rim the lip of the glass with their signature cayenne pepper crust. Ouch, that burns!) As for their food . . . who knows? I've only taken my honey up for the drink with the view and a small plate or two. (Really like the shrimp and calamari bar appy, but their portions are not what you'd call "generous.") Allred's sits at the St Sophia gondola station. This aerie has one of the best views of the town of Telluride as well as the canyon walls. We came at sunset to see the clouds break and the gold light compete with dark rain. It was spectacular. We had the burger special along with French marttinis. Yes, life is good. read more

We stopped in right at 5pm for happy hour in the bar and we were lucky to get a table. Unfortunately they don't have any HH specials. But we were psyched to get a bar table next to the window. So we ordered cocktails and snacks. I had the Summer Violet to drink - very tasty not too sweet. My hubs had a Bloody Mary that was good but nothing special. For snacks we had truffle fries, fried cauliflower, and black bean hummus. The cauliflower and fries were great, the hummus was just meh. But the service was great!!! 5 star view, 4-5 star wine list, 3-4 star food and 2 star service. Though the views are great and the food is pretty good, I can't recommend Allred's. I was treated very rudely by one of the bartenders. It was as though I came off the streets and and didn't belong. It was very odd considering I was dressed relatively nice and had my family rings on so theoretically I blended in well besides maybe being in my 30's. If I looked like a hobo I'd get it! I inquired about a 1982 Sauternes and it was as though he thought I couldn't afford it and or didn't know what I was ordering. I actually ended up asking to speak with their som and a manager since he was of no help and wouldn't serve me a glass. I've studied wine and am a level 2 som! What a joke to be treated w such disrespect. Then when asking about a couple of dishes I was torn between he seemed very distracted, uninterested and wasn't helpful. I wish I could remember his name. He was of African American decent and surprisingly has been there awhile (years). I'd think with how he treated me it wasn't his first time being extremely rude and that he would have been canned long ago. If I ever treated a guest that way the chefs I've worked under would have ripped me a new one and sent me out the door w a boot print on my back. Upon returning a few weeks later I had a very polite, helpful server in the bar area. She was a older Caucasian/Hispanic woman and helped make up for my bad first visit. Unfortunately I still don't think they deserve more than 2 Stars bc of my first experience. With the other great options in Telluride proper (minus the cosmo), I doubt I'll give them another try. It takes a certain 'touch' to pull off an elegant and exclsive atmosphere without coming off as being a bit stuffy or pompous and Allred's manages to do just that. You enter Allred's by getting of the gondola and taking the elevator up a flight. The elevator opens into the restaurant and you are immediately struck by the richness of the place. There is a changing room where you can hang up your ski jackets, googles, etc. and even very posh complimentary slippers for you to wear in lieu of your ski boots. It's these little touches that sets Allred's apart from other restaurants. Ther is of course the view. Spectacular. My friends and I went there for their $10 house wine and appetizer combo. The appetizer choices were mozz w pesto, cracked raw almond with pumpkin seeds, olives, hummus with lavash . . . we ordered one of each and they were all delicious and nicely flavoured. With the expectation that Allred's would have exceptional service, I was not disappointed. Even though there was only one waitress working the whole bar area, she was excellent and quick to observe the needs of the customers. I watched her serving all the costumers in the bar area before the costumers asked for anything. It was truly excellent costumer service Good company with friends, gorgeous view, a glass of wine, delicious app, the most excellent service to end my ski day . . . can my life be any more perfect?! read more

We were #4 to be seated and although 13 and 15 we're available we were seated at 11 in a corner with a high pine tree blocking most of the view of the town. People seated AFTER us were given the prime tables 13 and 15. Wonder how that works? Guess it's who you know. It matches the view... though you may be inclined to focus on the view inside, try taking a look in the other direction outside at sunset. Beautiful. The first time here I had a fish dish... cod maybe? It was splendid. This time I had the beef tenderloin, and tender it was. Wonderful flavor, melt in your mouth... the mashed potatoes were relatively basic but velvety and allowed the meat to be the star. My guy got the pork chop, which I was considering and was happy to try. The cherries worked very well with the meat, but I have to admit I found the pork paled in comparison to my beef. made a reservation over the phone for a special day. Unfortunately, we didn't get in their books for the night (even if i left them my credit card number for the reservation). The hostess and her supervisor was kind enough to get us in. We were placed in a table at a corner of a room designated for bigger parties. the lady supervisor didn't seem accommodating and showed frustration that she had to do this for us. We were told they have to clear the table soon, so we basically had less than an hour to try and enjoy a 3 course meal during our 25th anniversary. despite that, we felt lucky for getting a table although we needed to stretch our necks a bit to gander the beautiful views right outside the huge windows. my wife had the duck/noodles and i had the pork tenderloin/potatoes. The food was great, but I wouldn't say it was the best we've had. We perfectly timed our meal so we can have at least 15 minutes for dessert , but surprisingly a gentlemen (who I think is the manager or maybe even the owner) came by the table to let us know that he will move us to a table by the window. We must have been running late in our meal and they needed more time to prepare for the big party. Stumbled in after a full day of skiing, straight off the slopes in our ski-wear (translational: windblown, wiped-out and NOT dressed for an upscale venue). We didn't know any better, we just wanted a drink to celebrate the day. By the time we arrived at the hostess stand, were a bit concerned they might turn us away. The staff was welcoming, gracious and led us to the last two seats at the bar (it wasn't even 4:30 yet...!!). What a view! Stunning! Magnificent! Awesome! Absolutely breathtaking! Full disclosure - this review might be skewed by the fact that I've had four glasses of wine prior to writing it. (See review for San Sophia B&B.) My husband and I went to Allred's last night for our first anniversary and it was delicious! He had the lamb (melt in your mouth - so good!) and I had the New York strip steak (YUM!) We shared a half-bottle of wine and a three-scoop ice cream dessert that was really good (mint chocolate chip, peach Melba and macadamia nut honey anyone?) Beyond the amazing food - the views at Allred's cannot be beat. We watched the amazing landscape surrounding Telluride change from green to purple as the sun set - and then watched the lights in the town start to twinkle as night set in. Allred's definitely has a romantic setting, and the gondola servicing the location is free until midnight! Relish the free gondola, as you'll drop a pretty penny at Allred's, but it was worth the splurge for a special night out. Enjoy! read more

I like to book early reservations, which seems to do the trick if you want to get a table next to the floor to ceiling windows that look out over the box canyon. First of all, let me say that the view in this place is spectacular! The ambiance and the decor is first rate! The service was a solid 8 out of 10. Now to the food: We had the fried cauliflower to begin with ( very good) I had the elk loin steak and it was fantastic! Now here's what to avoid: my wife had just two things and they were both terrible! She had the worst crab cake ever! Dry and tasteless. She also ordered Brussels sprouts which were all diced up, so much so that you couldn't tell they were even Brussels sprouts. Absolutely zero flavor and zero seasoning. The salads we had were very good. So there you have it. I would go back, I would just avoid the sprouts and crab cake. read more

The food was simply outstanding and we had a plethora of servers waiting on us; four or five. The wine selection was also excellent. I ordered a 16 ounce Bison steak which I could only finish half of. Needless-to-say, I had a marvelous lunch take-home. The food was good, not $79 per person good for a prix fixe menu, but it was all good. The sticky toffee cake was the best part. The bad part of the experience is that our server took away our half-eaten entrees & didn't ask if we wanted to save them. I said we were leaving room for dessert so we'd finish our steaks later, but he said (later when I asked about our leftovers) he didn't hear me & threw our food away already. The server did not seem to think it was anything to be upset about but I don't generally throw away $60 worth of food! It was our elopement dinner & it didn't feel like the best dinner we've ever had despite it being over $300 with 3 glasses of wine.
