Allred's Restaurant is still one of Telluride's best dining experiences. This year, my brothers from Australia met me in Telluride and we dined at Allred's and had a great time. The food was simply outstanding and we had a plethora of servers waiting on us; four or five. The wine selection was also excellent. I ordered a 16 ounce Bison steak which I could only finish half of. Needless-to-say, I had a marvelous lunch take-home. Our first night in Telluride and the hotel recommended this restaurant. We got to the hostess and we're going to sit in the bar. It was full no place to sit. Children sitting at the bar. We went back to the hostess as the Dining area was empty. We asked for a table and she said she did not have any unless we got dinner. We said we wanted some drinks and appetizers. My husband and I went to Allred's on our honeymoon March 2020 right before COVID hit and the views are breathtaking. What an awesome gondola ride up and a great spot for a restaurant. Incredible service tonight - Mario is the man! Felt safe eating inside. The 3 course menu had so many good options, and I'd definitely recommend the elk. They had some really good wines and I was excited to try a Cabernet blend from Colorado! We stopped here for drinks after a day out on the slopes. The bartenders were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The beer and cocktail selection was expansive and they have just about any beverage you could want. They also have a tasty selection of small plates and appetizers to enjoy while you drink. The atmosphere has a vintage ski lodge vibe and is warm and inviting. There are fireplaces, and all the staff are friendly. The manager Mario convinced us to come back for dinner and we were glad we returned. Dinner, also was an amazing experience. I ordered the crab cakes and my boyfriend ordered the salmon. We ordered creme brûlée and strawberry cobbler for dessert. They were both amazing. Both the food and the service were impeccable, and I was especially impressed by how friendly the management and staff were. Our food came with bread that was fresh, warm, and delicious. Overall, coming here was an amazing experience! I would return, and recommend to anyone visiting Telluride. read more

This review won't matter much because this restaurant is on a resort and the type of people who go to the resort won't care. Went here to eat and everything was going well till the server literally took 3/4th of my meal and threw it away. I ordered the 8oz and that alone was 130ish bucks. The price only matters because it ended up in the trash. We traveled all day so I hadn't eaten much and once we got to dinner and had the salad between being tired and full on salad the FIRST thing I did was cut my meal in half and section it off because I already knew I was taking it home. Then the half I sectioned off to eat I didn't even finish. My partner and I were in disbelief as we watched the same server box up two bites of cake for other tables. Being millennials we still left 20 percent, but it seriously hurt my soul because my 130 dollar steak was in the trash. So, I basically paid that much for a salad. Nothing about the situation made sense. Almost all of my meal was left on the plate and I wasn't asked if I didn't like it? It was just thrown away? But we are boxing up 2 bites of cake for people? This restaurant can make mistakes like this and not pay the reviews too much mind because of its location, but man, what a flat out waste of money it was for me. Still concerned by the servers actions. Thank goodness I'm still in the passive aggressive stage of being a Karen and not the screaming in the middle of the restaurant over something small Karen. Anyway, really weird outcome for my dinner. Make sure you tell the staff you need a box well before you're done if you plan on taking it home. I've dined here twice now--on my two trips to Telluride--and I couldn't recommend it more. It's a truly unique mountaintop experience! -very fun to get to the restaurant--you have to take the gondola up the mountain and you get an amazing view of Telluride and/or Mountain Village below -great high end chalet feel when you enter restaurant--you also see all the reserve wines in the cellars -friendly hostess greeted us--we had a cocktail in the bar while waiting--which had amazing views of the mountains and ski runs--they also mixed a nice dry martini! -we were seated at a spacious table close to the windows--again so we could see the great view outside -the dining room is large and impressive with warm woods, high ceilings and a bustling convivial energy -knowledgeable sommelier gave us great wine recommendations from a huge list -friendly, attentive and energetic young waiter--also have great recs -the food was delicious--with a lot of local game options--including delicious elk -awesome lamb chop--perfect rare -nice dessert selection as well Can't wait to go back next winter! read more

We went for a family celebration, and had the reservations for months in advance. From right off the bat, we seemed to have a cold shoulder from our waiter. He would visit other tables multiple times before even coming by. This seems like a common thread through several reviews. It must be that they cater the good service to the locals. The view and food were awesome, but that can't overcome the fact they didn't want to explain the menu to us, didn't want to give us a wine menu, didn't come get us drinks, and was ignoring us for other tables. At that price point, you should expect top notch service, and the quality of food was not nearly good enough to justify the complete lack of service we received. You come for the amazing scenic view, and you stay for the delightful service and food. When the GM, Mario, starts your meal by offering unlimited, free ice cream to my children for finishing their meals, then you know you've sat down for something special. When you take children to a fine dining restaurant, most will seat you in the farthest corner and pretend like my well-behaved children aren't there. But Mario started the evening off by embracing them, which won huge points for our experience. Service was top notch all night: from the hostess, to the bar staff while we waited for our table (we were early), to the servers, and all the way to Mario himself. The food was delicious. Somewhat typical steakhouse fare, but all prepared well and very delicious! At the end of the meal, Mario stuck to his word and escorted my 7 year old into the kitchen so he could pick out his ice cream, and even took him for seconds! And because my daughter was too little/timid, her brother brought her back some too. We were there to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday, and there are few things in life that make a Nana as happy as seeing her grandbabies happy. read more

I would have only awarded Allred's 3 stars, but the view kicked it up a notch to 4. I'd go back simply to have a drink at the bar and look out the floor-to-ceiling windows. First off, Allred's is extremely easy to get to. Telluride's gondola system is genius and its halfway point from town to resort is on top of the mountain, where Allred's sits. The food was eh-okay. We had the lobster fritters and the sashimi to start, and I was severely disappointed with the lobster fritters. For my main course, I chose the Maine Sea Scallops; they were good but nothing spectacular...I think the scallops might have been a little overcooked. The dessert was excellent, but I only had one bite. Some sort of chocolate lava creation...it was the best part of the meal. Our server was good, but again...nothing too swoon over. The view though - OH MAN - that view. It was so magnificent, I wanted to stay up there all night and drink myself into oblivion. My recommendations - go, hit up the bar and maybe an appetizer, and enjoy the view of Telluride. read more

Went here for my 10th wedding anniversary. I saw the descriptions of high class dining with majestic views of Telluride and thought this would be the perfect place. I made reservations 3 months in advance and made sure to tell them about the occasion. After eating at Allred's I can easily say they offer the most stunning and romantic views of aspen trunks I've ever seen. I'm sure the city lights and mountain tops on the other side of those trunks are beautiful too but I'm just speculating. I'm sorry for being snide, but I went to Allred's for the view and the view did not meet expectations. My wife and I walked into a nearly empty restaurant and were shown to a table with a view obstructed by aspen trees growing just outside the window. I politely asked for the table two down from ours as it's view was not blocked but we were told it was reserved for someone else. We spent $300 on our meal. It is the most expensive dinner for two I've ever had. I think Allred's was nice enough to give us a dessert for free (in honor of our special occasion) but I don't really remember--after $300 you stop looking at the details. I thought it was pretty obnoxious that there were so few options for wine less than 3 figures (for a bottle). Allred's isn't all bad--food was really good but not the best I've ever had. In fact, now, a few weeks later, I am not sure what I had to eat (I didn't have too much to drink, it just wasn't that memorable). service was fantastic, very professional. Maybe the best apres-ski ever?? I stopped here during the busiest week of the year (between Christmas and NY), for cocktails and munchies and it did not disappoint! Allred's has a beautiful dining room overlooking a breathtaking view of Telluride, plus a great bar area. Given the busy day we talked the staff into allowing us to have our apres-ski fun in the dining room so we could sit. We enjoyed a beautiful pinot noir, truffled fries and their nut trio while gazing at the spectacular view. Service was excellent. The only disappointment was that I wasn't staying for dinner and couldn't sit there past 4:30 (they needed the dining room for dinner). But I'm so happy they allowed us to hang out there to begin with, so I can't actually complain. This is a can't miss destination for cocktails after skiing if you don't mind spending a few bucks. They have a great area to hold boots and coats, and have lendable slippers to keep your feet warm! Seriously!! read more

This was our first trip to Telluride and our first dinner out... the pace was certainly set! The restaurant sits atop the gondola track and overlooks all of downtown Telluride. We were seated along the window with what should have been a view second to none, but unfortunately it was overcast. We ordered an excellent bottle of wine to start, with the help of the sommolier. We started with the potato croutons on the advice of just about every staff member from the entry to our table, and they did not disappoint. I had a beet salad which was extraordinary and I was at odds as to whether or not to share with the table to give them an opportunity to experience greatness, versus keeping it all for myself. I caved and gave them a bite. For an entree, I tried elk for the first time. It was incredible! The chef recommended med-rare, and delivered 100%. The elk was tender and its inherent flavor showcased rather than hidden amongst the cowardly oversauced strategies of many who serve less than the best. It's worth mentioning that we had placed our order just a moment after a large party had ordered their food, and as a result, we stood to be slightly delayed in receiving our entrees. Our server was very proactive in recognizing and addressing this, and had a round of lobster bisque sent to our table after explaining the situation. We couldn't have appreciated the communication and the gesture more. When is the last time you had this happen? Even though it's tough to go anywhere in the last 5 years without finding truffle oil dumped over something on the menu, I recommend the truffle fries at Allred's because they do them right, and boy were they tasty! The truly phenomenal thing about walking out of such a wonderful experience at Allred's is that you just hop on the gondola and take a short ride either home or back to the center of town. My husband and I got married at San Sophia and had our wedding reception at Allred's in June of 2014. We chose Allred's because of the fantastic location, views, service and food. Yes, it was expensive, but it was also worth every penny. Staff was accommodating and very easy to work with in the planning process. We were able to create our own menu with a variety of choices for our guests and the chef made our delicious wedding cake based on the description of what I had in mind. Allred's has amazing views. It's right at the top of the St Sophia gondola station. Super convenient. And, how cool is it to take a gondola to dinner! We had appetizers in the bar vs a full blown dinner. We tried the muscles, and meatball sliders. Anyone who knows me knows I love meatballs and these did the trick. Yum! read more
