This is a nice calm park to spend some time surrounded by nature. The path and picnic areas are fairly clean. They have street parking and also paid parking lot as well. I noticed it was paid parking last minute so I went outside and parked on the street. I'd say it'll be better if the parking price was posted easy to see at the entrance booth. I noticed some dirtiness on the picnic tables but that's expected for public park outdoor tables, and I don't think it's a big issue. read more

Lovely views , bathrooms, great playground- but ground squirrels have overrun the picnic areas. Could not eat without them constantly trying to get our food. Every time we are there, people are feeding them. All over the toddler playground, hope kids don't get bitten. Almaden Lake Park is a neat park area with a huge lake in the middle. It has the feel of a typical park, but there is also some light hiking available (and pleasant walking experiences as well). We really thought the amphitheater area was cool, made primarily of stone and using grass seating areas. When we went there was nothing to watch, but I bet it's fun to use it when there is something going on! The reason for the 4 stars is because there were a few "rowdy" parties with obvious alcohol consumption (I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud, but I mean... it is *kind* of illegal). We brought our dogs and kept them on leash, but there were multiple situations where off-leash dogs were out and about, and one even ran up to us, which is usually fine but always a little scary. The lake looks great but upon closer examination I don't think I'd ever want to swim in it, and the "DON'T EAT THE FISH" signs were a little alarming. Still, if you visit for the hiking, scenery, and walks it's great. read more

Almaden Lake Park is a nice park located off of Almaden Expressway. Parking Fee is $6. There is a nice kids playground with cushioned flooring, multiple structures with shaded picnic areas, tables & benches, with a grill. Fish may be caught and released, but should not be eaten. The lake itself allows catch & release fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. "This lake contains fish and sediment that may be contaminated with mercury, which may be harmful if ingested by humans. Fishing licenses must be displayed at all times." read more

It is a bit unkept and sometimes potheads would do drugs here. Other than that, it's a nice chill place to relax.

This was a super scenic park that is great for a family outing during a weekend. There is a big playground available for the kids. There is a lot of equipment to entertain the kids and the space is contained with a locked gate. There are benches and some shady areas available, which come in handy on a hot day. Outside the playground, there is a beautiful lake where you can walk, bike, scooter on the path that circles the water. There are also several group picnic areas with bbq pits available. Bathrooms available onsite. While you're supposed to pay for parking, the machine was broken when we came so we just took a chance that we wouldn't get fined (we didn't). read more

I love visiting Almaden Lake Park to walk around the lake and also the annual Water Lantern Festival that takes place there. It's absolutely beautiful looking at all the lanterns floating on the lake and twinkling on the lake. You'll find great wildlife walking around and great views as well. There's a little small beach at Almaden Lake Park and a good amount of picnic tables and plenty of parking as well. I feel like Lake Cunningham Park in East San Jose has potential to be like Almaden Lake Park if it gets more love. It sets the standard for a nice lake park in San Jose. But yeah, the park is well kept and well maintained and definitely much cleaner than other parks with lakes. read more

This park is really nice! I was looking for a new park to do my morning runs and I stumbled upon this one. It's great for friends and family to come together and host picnics here by the water or playground for the kids to play. Parking is $6 if you choose to park inside but there's plenty of parking outside or the park if you want to avoid paying the parking fee (which I did!). There's a lot of geese here so be careful where you're stepping so you don't accidentally step on their... pebbles! read more

Honestly, there's so much suburban sprawl in Silicon Valley that this relatively nondescript city park is likely a welcome sight for locals. As for the rest of us, it's a place to get some of your FitBit steps in. Not all of them though since the walk around the lake is scarcely a mile and a half. While you'll see trees, waterfowl, and even people fishing, the constant roar of the surrounding traffic on the expressways diminishes the appeal. This is a beautiful park that has everything you would need for a pleasant outing. Restrooms, playgrounds, picnic tables and seating, volleyball designated area/nets, trails, grassy fields, plenty of trees (and shade for those warm and sunny days), adorable waterfowl, and even a small sandy shore along the lake. A picturesque setting for special events too. I've attended the Water Lantern Festival at this park at least 5-6 times, including this weekend, and it's such a wonderful laid back atmosphere here, even when there are crowds (see my other review for details about the festival). Parking around here is limited, and the lots are sometimes closed during events, so plan accordingly. read more

This is a very nice park with a beautiful lake. Went there on Saturday and there was plenty of parking: it was $6 per spot. There are many tables and barbeque spots that can be used, they are all far away from one another so you don't feel crowded at all.  We got the table closest to the road because it was one of the only ones in the shadow and the noise from the road was not something that could be a bother. The lake is very pretty and there are many geeses, so try not to drop food :) Would love to come back again! read more

Went here for the 4th of July fireworks this year and had a good time! Plenty of grass space and the lake is nice and clean. Only thing is the bugs come out when the sun goes down, so you'll find yourself swatting at a bunch of flies. read more

Great day at the park! The walking trails are pretty descent. There's a paved path around the lake and park that's perfect for strollers. There are also trails behind the park that are pretty cool as well. Just be prepared to share the path with bikers! The playground area is a little disappointing. The toddler area is out of service. Nice park with plenty of street parking available all along Almaden Lake Park. I've been to this particular park years ago thanks to a bday bash being thrown and all I could remember was the abundance of picnic benches, readily available BBQ areas, and a beautiful view to enjoy. Fast forward to now: the picnic tables/benches are still plentiful. This makes for Almaden Lake Park to be a great option for any get togethers, bdays, baby shower events that you may be planning. Each reservable area is big in size and will be able to accommodate a large gathering if needed. BBQ grills are either reserved or used on a first come first serve basis. They are large in size, easy to use, and are surprisingly unkept pretty well. The view of the water is still there but is a lot murkier than I recall. Not much of a sight if you ask me but I'd pick this over a dried up, crusty lake any day. This park is highly recommended for anyone who would needs a quiet place to take a stroll, get in a brisk walk, or is in need of a gathering site for an event. Bonus points for the lake being completely pet friendly. Minus one star due to the slimy looking water and the lawn/grassy area being completely filled with duck poop- no grassy picnics here folks. read more

Nice little lake park, but is next to an expressway and can get a little dusty. Still it's a perfect spot to bring the kids for a lazy afternoon. It's a decent size and even has a bocce ball court. I run a creative writing group (by request) in my free time, and this is one the public places that our group likes to visit. It's a spinoff of a group I co lead once at a local community center in San Jose pre pandemic. There are a generous amount of shade and benches and people out and about walking dogs and couples hanging out by the lake. It's a fun place to hang out at and lots of space where it doesn't feel like people can hear with in talking distance and the exact opposite...... It's also a good place to people watch and say Hi to and wave at the locals, the people here are friendly. It doesn't hurt to say Hola in a fast paced world..... They have bathrooms, lots of wildlife and is by Almaden expressway a neat and comfortable way to get around Almaden Valley. I provide stationary, pens, journals, writing prompts, snacks and water, not a big deal, amazon and Walmart have a decent selection to eye. A little history: named for the valley nestled between the Santa Teresa Hills and Santa Cruz Mountains, a valley once mined for mercury which is why it's named after the New Almaden Quicksilver Mines in Spain and why you can't eat the fish. After announcing that they were building a UC in the area in 1959 the value of the land rose so high that they could no longer afford to buy the land necessary, so it moved to Santa Cruz. This is why we can't have nice things. The 95 acre park (30 acres water), open 8am to an hour after sunset, has both reservable and first-come picnic areas. You can squat in a reserved spot if they don't show up by 10 or they don't have their permit. I came here for the biking. Entering at the east entrance, I immediately saw four bocce ball courts. I would have played but I didn't have the balls. Riding counter-clockwise was far less crowded than Vasona Park but the trail technically leaves the park once you go under Coleman and is soon unpaved. But going clockwise, over the Los Alamitos Creek toward the west entrance, the bike path was narrow and full of clueless kids to test your brakes. So, for bike riding, I prefer Vasona Park, but this place is a coo, tranquil, alternative, likely better suited for lakeside picnics, bocce ball, sand volleyball, catch-and-release fishing when permitted (license required), and bird poop watching. Parking: $6 parking ($2 if you are over 65, disabled, or active military). $10 on Easter, Mothers & Fathers Day, July 4, Memorial and Labor Day. Credit card or exact change. $80 annual pass includes Alum Rock Park, Lake Cunningham, Kelley Park and Happy Hollow Park & Zoo. Note: #63 or 140 Things to Do in San Jose based on a website that advises you about trips. Leashed dogs stay on east side only. West side= no dogs allowed. Sorry, Snoop- it's a protected wildlife sanctuary. Beer/wine must remain in the picnic areas Skates and skateboarding must remain on pavement. Lake Almaden Park us a nice park to go for everything. There are trails that many use to walk, bike, and run. Beautiful view with lots of trees, the lake, bridge by a river. There is a bocce ball lawn, horseshoes, several playgrounds as well. Plenty of picnic table areas, we walked around and marked the ones we liked to come back to w/ friends close to restrooms and playground areas. We brought our dog and walked him around the whole lake. Parking is free due to covid. Lots of parking lots as well. The park is clean, people pick up after themselves and their dogs. Restrooms clean as well. Almaden Lake Park was a very nice place to visit. Not too crowded on such a nice day. read more

Almaden Lake Park is a really cool spot for fishing. My family went out here to do some cast and reel fishing. There's a really nice trail and a bridge on site. You can take a scroll, dog walking, jogging, or biking too. They have two bathrooms at opposite ends of the park. A really nice and quiet place to relax. I love long walks in Almaden lake park. This is one lf the prettiest parks in San Jose also very clean. Ive been too mamy parks but this one is soo breathtaking. I love walks were there is water and lots of nature in sight. If you go one whole lap around is about 1.5 miles of a walk. As you are walking you noticed all the ducks and geese. You also noticed how beautiful mother nature is since they have really bwautiful sights especially after 5pm. When the sunset hits its beautiful. Also, if you play PokemonGo. The good: The lake has a walking path around it that creates a full circle so you don't have to backtrack on your walk. There are picnic tables and areas that are far enough from other tables so that you feel like you have your own privacy. The areas can be booked in advance for private parties/events. There's also a bocce ball area. My husband rollerbladed along the trail and thought it was ok. It wasn't the smoothest or widest of paths but it was doable. It's relatively flat with a few slight inclines. I took a baby stroller here and thought it was a nice stroller path. There's a playground area for kids. The bad: There's a parking fee if you park in the designated lot. You can avoid this fee if you park in the perimeter of the park on the street. The water is low now due to the drought. Looking for a trail in SJ for short or long distance runs/walks/bike, or have a picnic, or a place to play half court basketball, sand volleyball, or bocce ball, this place has it! I especially like frequenting this park when training for a run because there's always people and families roaming around and the runners are friendly here. A nice cozy community vibe. The trails have distance markers which I also appreciate and can go out for miles! I also like that most of the trail is shaded, but there are also stretches where it is open (without trees). I don't care much for the geese here because they are huge and there's a lot of them, but I guess they stick around because of the lake. I have had some deer sighting, so always be careful. There is close paid parking inside the gates, but also street parking accessible to the walking trails around the park. read more

Almaden Lake Park is a lovely and scenic park to walk by. You'll see people walking, jogging, running, and cycling around the trails. It's quite peaceful depending when you go and you'll see people fishing and lounging around. I added photos at around 5:30 PM. It's a good time to see the many birds at the park. Be careful not to step on the bird poo that is quite frequent over there. Tip: Save $ parking and park on Winfield Boulevard. I added a map so you can see the park's different areas. Amazing park with colorful sunset hues. This park obviously surrounds Almaden lake and is a local favorite. Has a ~3 mile loop which surrounds the lake. Also has other trails but haven't tried them yet. Lots of picnic spots are available but closed due to covid. Lots of geese to look at as well. Note: It gets pretty busy even during covid. Some people wear masks and some people don't. So, I wouldn't recommend going here during covid especially with kids. read more

I love walking around this park. It's always so open and relaxing. You have to pay to park closer to the entrance, and there's two parking lots on either corner of the lake/entrances. I always park on the outside and walk around. I've never walked all the way around the lake except for this particular day, I went to visit easy 1.78 mile walk with a little hill as we went off track to check out a little incline, but there was a couple at the top of the hill with a tree and a bench so we didn't want to disturb them and went back down. I have seen people fishing here although you're not supposed to eat any of the fish. To my surprise, we actually saw a turtle which I wonder what else is in the water. Lol there were a handful of seagulls, ducks, and birds all around so it's nice to hear them having their own little bird conversations. Lol I just wish there was a Boba spot or coffee shop nearby. After our walk, we were really thirsty and wanted some thing to drink but couldn't find anything relatively close so we just went home. Lol I will definitely be back to walk around the park again. Dogs have to stay on leash also while at the park. read more
