    Aloette is Michelin-recommended and honestly... yeah, I get it. This place was incredible. I showed up right in that awkward in-between spot during the brunch-to-dinner shift, so I kept it simple and ordered off the brunch menu to make life easier for the kitchen. Ended up with the avocado toast--and wow. Hands down the best I've ever had. Jalapeño, radish, and I added poached eggs on top... absolute perfection. Even though I was the only one in the place at the time, the service was amazing--super kind and attentive. But the real scene-stealer? The lemon meringue pie. I swear I'd eat it every day if I could. The meringue was so smooth and rich, and the whipped cream? Insanely fresh and creamy. This place will be living rent-free in my food dreams forever.

    Alotte is basically the café version of Alo. It's even mentioned in the Michelin guide, and it's a great spot if you want to try French food in a more casual way. The food here is excellent--if you're looking to dip into real French cuisine, I'd definitely recommend this place. That said, reservations are tough to get. You'll want to book at least a week in advance, and even with a reservation, expect to wait about 10-20 minutes for your table. The servers are friendly, the atmosphere is great, and it also works as a spot to grab a drink casually. I really loved the octopus dish--it was tender and flavorful. I usually eat a lot of burgers, but here I'd suggest going for something else. The burger is good, but you can find good burgers elsewhere.

    This place is charming. The leather bar top, the bartenders and servers, the overall ambiance. Devin was the person who took care of us the evening we came in. He was that perfect mix of professional, a little bit fun, and extremely intuitive. He was very much at the top of his field. We started off with mini martinis and 12 oysters followed by nduja olives, foie gras parfait, beef tartare, the hamachi crudo, asparagus tempura, grilled lamb skewers, and the wedge salad at Devin's suggestion followed by wine and Rockford peaches (to which Devin was delighted that we got the League of Their Own reference. Everything was fantastic. No notes on the food. The standouts were the wedge salad and the nduja olives. We were way too full for dessert. It was a fabulous meal with perfect service and a great atmosphere. What else do you want? I would certainly return here. I understand why this place and Alo are so well regarded in Toronto.

    Amazing food and great service! We got bar seating with reservation on a Thursday. Aloette is located on the ground floor. I much prefer this restaurant over alobar, it's slightly more casual and I enjoyed the food a lot more. It can get loud but we could still talk. Our server/bartender was super attentive and chatty with us. We got crispy squash, aloette burger and fries, steak tartare, octopus carpaccio, hamachi crudo, side of bread and butter, and lemon meringue pie. This was truly comfort food and everything was so delicious, my favourites were the crispy squash and aloette burger. Washrooms are downstairs.

    Had brunch/lunch here and it was excellent! Great service and food. Next time we are in Toronto we would go back here! I had an eggs benedict with bacon, amazing fresh tomato with a browned butter hollandaise sauce! Yummy. My husband had a take on a pork sandwich and it was great. Awesome Lemon Meringue pie too! The only thing I would change since we were sitting outside was the rap music as it was vulgar.

    Prob our best meal in Toronto. Made a reservation for a Friday night - they had limited availability online, but I was able to email their reservationist and get a table - and celebrated my anniversary here. They kicked things off with complimentary Prosecco, and it got even better from there! My boyfriend and I ordered: + Aloette mini martinis + Foie gras parfait + octopus carpaccio + Aloette wedge salad + Crispy butternut squash + lemon meringue pie The wedge salad was my favorite, followed by the foie gras and dessert. The martinis were also genius. Can't go wrong with the butternut squash, either. The only miss was the octopus, which was not really flavorful outside of the sauce. Overall phenomenal (both food and service) and I'd definitely come back. Would love to try their sister restaurant Alo, too!

    House made cheese bread with season butter to start the meal. Ordered the octopus capacio and beef tartare. Both were as good as any Michelin stars restaurant. Excellent food and vibrant atmosphere.

    Great fries, free bread and a very beefy burger. I understand why it was rated best burger you'll ever have now. We came in thirty minutes before closing and I'm glad we were able to get a seat the bar. Very tiny and intimate place to be. Definitely a place worth visiting if you're in the Toronto area.

    A Michelin starred casual diner downtown. Went there for brunch. Excellent service and top notch food. The place is casual and not many tables inside but with an extended patio season can seat a few more outside. We had shakshuka, avocado toast and chicken on waffle for brunch and also a crepe. Altogether a recommended place

    I went to Aloette for dinner and did not need a reservation. The restaurant inside is small, but we were able to get a seat in the patio. The server was pretty attentive during our entire dinner. It was a little chilly outside and they did not have heaters. I had the fried chicken and lettuce wraps. The food was good however portions were small for the price. The flavours were good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

    Aloette is the little sister of Michelin one star rated restaurant, Alo. Aloette itself despite not having any stars is a Michelin recommendation restaurant. Even prior to Michelin coming to Toronto, I've had Aloette on my radar. The perfect storm had me heading downtown on a Friday late morning and it was the perfect excuse to take a 15 minute walk detour to Aloette. Aloette's menu is of a limited one and seems to have some Asian fusion element injected into many of their offerings. I ordered their steak and was flat out disappointed by the lack of quality and execution. Presentation was extremely simple which I'm not overly picky about. It was a sliced steak with shitake mushroom on the side. Nothing more. On first blush, the dish was fragrant and flavourful. After the second bite, the level of sodium really started to kick in. The steak was over marinated and had a heavy soya sauce influence. The natural flavour of the beef was totally overpowered by the marination. The same goes for the mushrooms, but the mushrooms were even more unforgiving when it came to the sodium level. To compound the issue, some parts of the steak had a bit of tendon in them and the tenderization process was just not done properly. Although the steak was tender (the steak was cooked to medium rare perfection), the texture felt quite off. And when you bite into it, it gave you an abnormal tingling sensation, which reminded me of the over tenderization (from the velveting) that is commonplace with stir fried beef in Chinese restaurants. I did not anticipate something like this at a high end restaurant. I forgot to mention that the meal came with a cheese bread that was solid, but was nothing out of the ordinary and was a bad pairing with the steak. The butter that was provided reminded me of the after taste you get from eating bacon flavoured chips. I have no clue what kind of butter it is. If the main is on the saltier end of things, strategically it would make more sense to serve some form of plain bread. The service was courteous and they were diligent with tapping up water. Two of their staff did proactively ask whether things were ok. To the first staff, I mentioned about the very salty mushrooms. She offered to replace them, but I said it was ok. She promised to take it up with the chef, which I know she did since I was sitting at the bar area. The second staff asked me how things were while taking away my unfinished plate of food. He apologized and promised to share the feedback with the chef. Service is generally above average, but lacked a bit of personal touch. I can now totally cross Aloette off my list for good. If a high end restaurant can't even do a steak properly, how good can their other dishes be? It was a poor enough experience where it gave me pause to think whether I would want to drop a few hundred dollars to try Alo in the future.

    The best meal I had on my visit to Toronto. The staff here does a good job at keeping some tables open for walk in, which is always appreciated. We did call to make a reservation - impression at first walk in - it's an upsaclediner feel, which is what they're going for. Aloette is from the same group as Alo, started by Michelin-starred chef Patrick Kriss in 2015. When we walked in, I didn't realize we had made a reservation at the bar (it's a diner top) and since we were celebrating an early birthday meal, we opted to sit in a booth and were told we had a time limit. That said, we got to looking at the menu and it's pretty tight so we made some choices. My sister who I was with has a dairy allergy and they were so great, they even let us try the scallop sauce - which was a koji butter. I love French food and I love diner food, and I wasn't expecting asian fusion! Our waitress Lee was AMAZING - she knew we had the time constraint so she got us ordering. The complimentary bread service is ALWAYS appreciated, and I liked the cheesy bread. We shared for the starters: The 'Nduja Stuffed Olive Skewer - which has adouli sausage and halloumi, sourdough, chimichurri, omg it was such a delicious little bite; East Coast Oysters with tiger's milk mignonette (bury me in this mignonette); Salmon Tartare on shiso leaf, nori aioli, dashi pearl (it was the least favorite dish); and the Octopus Carpaccio - romesco, almond, cherry tomato. I will never forget this Octopus Carpaccio, the romesco with the almond gave it a flavor of salsa macha and I was literally licking the plate. Then for entree, I got the Aloette Burger with the cheese on the side (it is a HEAVY burger, and I actually liked that the cheese was on the side). The waitress was so great and veered me away from the tempting Wagyu Truffle Burger -- you have to work up to the heaviness. The other disappointing item - the fries. If you are going to charge $10 for a side of fries, they better be amazing. They tasted almost stale, but no matter bc everything else was amazing. My sister got a half portion of the Aloette Fried Chicken, and I was upset how good this was. We were poo-pooing the idea of ordering this because it was asian fusion: yuzu honey, takuan, hot sauce, bibb lettuce - but the hot sauce, a homemade buffalo-esque was amazing. Now their wine menu, I was expecting a lot of natural wine, but it was tight. They do have organic wines here but the glass of Beaujolais was average, and I LOVE Beaujolais. The pièce de résistance is the Lemon Meringue Pie -- it's $15 a slice which is a STEAL. This pie is like crack. We obsessed over every single bite -- I can't tell you how good this is. Fluffy meringue, and crisp acid lemon and a delightful graham cracker bite. We loved it so much, we even got one to go. And I will tell you, it was just as good at home! They do brunch and are open for lunch on Fridays. I loved this restaurant, it was higher end food but not the fluff with the diner feel. The staff was so kind and they have a cutie bathroom down the stairs that felt really high end!

We were starving and hadn't eaten all day and couldn't get ourselves to eat more than 2 bites because we were frankly disgusted. It tasted really bad. DO NOT ORDER THIS. We came for a 2pm lunch on a Tuesday, and they told us the wait would be around 15-20mins which we said was fine. However, we ended up waiting 40mins, and we suspect that they let other people in front of us (told there were 2 parties of 2 in front of us but let in 3 parties). It gave diner vibes but was definitely more cramped. Was busier than I expected on a random Tuesday at 2pm. Low rating is for the awful main and the longer-than-promised wait time. But I do have to give them credit for the tasty apps. We might've just ordered the wrong thing on the menu but we're not coming back to find out, especially if the wait will always be this long.

The food was decent but fairly average. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out as memorable either. The Irish breakfast was not Irish at all. For a place with such a strong reputation, I expected more flavor and attention to detail. The biggest disappointment was the service. The service was slow, they never checked on the table, and several requests (3 of the 5 drinks, syrup for the french toast, water refills) were either forgotten or took a long time to arrive. The restaurant wasn't especially busy, which made the lack of attentiveness even more noticeable. About 20 mins after we finished our food, we decided to head inside to pay and then our server noticed we left and accused us of walking on our tab but we had the payment receipt! I can see why some people may enjoy this spot, and perhaps I visited on an off day, but based on this experience, I found the food ordinary and the service well below expectations.

Sadly there was no chair for her to sit down on yet it didn't stop her from going to her regular spot for a Sunday brunch. She told me that she has been coming here for many years, even before it was called Sammy's. Has it been 30 years, she asked herself? Either way, she made it known that she is quite the regular. Very nice and friendly lady. These are the types of regulars that make the diner what it is. There is a sign in clipboard at the front, as soon as you walk in. You have to sign in as part of contact tracing in case there is an outbreak of COVID linked back to this establishment. Make sure you do not block the pathway from behind the bar, I didn't block it but a large family with several kids needed a place to stand in line and wait for a big table, because servers will get very mad at you and tell you "I NEED TO GET BY! DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!" But there is no where to stand when the lineup is 20 people deep. This is something to think about once the weather gets colder and there is a long lineup out the door. Perhaps takeout would be a better option than to be yelled at by the short haired waitress with tattoos? While I did not mind waiting and I had a book to occupy my time in the lineup and at the table before I was given the menu, I could see that this was obviously a rush time, prime time lunchtime at the diner, maybe others might be a little more impatient than me? I could watch a snail crawl for hours, patience is a virtue. The wait is very long to get seated and even longer to get food. While the food was pretty good, and the other server was very friendly, attentive and nice, I think they were short staffed that day and nothing is ever as instant as fast food. My advice would be to go here when you have the time to wait. Don't come here if you are in a rush. It's better to only come here when you have lots of time to wait.

We might come back, but not the holidays!
