Great Addition to this part of San Rafael. The restaurants in this area are pretty lacking. However now that there is a poke restaurant on the scene, corporate lunch goers have a good solid new option. The owners nicely offer hot tea or water which you can get yourself as much as you'd like. In a quickie restaurant like this I think that's an advantage. The interior is brand new and the seating in the Decour are clean crisp and inviting. They have a TV first big sports events and lots of space. Another benefit to this place is that they do offer good vegan options. You can either go meatless, and focus on adding Edamame and tofu to your dish or they also have a vegan chicken option. The other feature which is nice is they have an automated ordering system on the wall so that you can order your dish and then just simply go up and pick it up. This makes the busy lines at lunchtime move much quicker. Overall if you're looking for a healthy decent lunch option you know I have a new great alternative to some of the less healthy stagnant offerings in the area. And if you're vegan you're good to go here too. read more

If you like Woking or Sushi Tri, then you'll love Aloh-o, a new poke resturant started by the same husband and wife team. They opened about a month ago, and I just had to try it. And let me tell you, this will definitely not be the last time I eat there. The layout is similar to Chipotle, where you can choose the base, protein, and toppings. I got half salad and half sushi rice as the base. Then for the fish, I chose one scoop of tuna and one scoop of crab. As for toppings, there was no limit, so I went crazy hehe. I got tamago (egg), seaweed, fish eggs, cucumber, edamame, and avocado. The poke bowl made was very colorful and I couldn't wait to dig in. The fish was very fresh and yummy. I absolutely loved all the toppings on my poke bowl. Every bite had a new surprise. Also, the portions were perfect. I left satisfied and happy I had a delicious, healthy meal. I took my daughter, Casey, here on her first day of summer. This isn't the kind of place she usually would choose (she can be a little picky) but this was a hard year for school and she did really well! The reason she chose this restaurant is because a friend of hers said it was really good. Once inside, we took our order on this odd touch screen that Casey had to help me with (that is on me not the restaurant lol ) I really enjoyed the food once it came out. I visited Aloh-o several times back in 2019 and it was great. The chicken teriyaki was so flavorful and tender. I went there several times just for that chicken teriyaki bento box. The shrimp tempura was also a favorite of mine, with the breading being so crispy and the shrimp so juicy. The place is clean, with a TV where I watched a football game. read more

The food was nice. I liked my poke (maguro and hamachi, standard sauce and toppings), and my wife and son liked their combo bentos. But the bentos did not come with miso shiru, as one would expect. And the pricing of everything at lunchtime was what one would expect at dinnertime, overpriced for what was offered, especially if there's no miso shiru. (It is the same pricing on their menu at dinnertime.) You can see the management is following a similar business model as when they took the old Combo King nearby and upgraded it to the much more fashionable Mr. Woking. But that premium pricing doesn't quite fit into a place where you stand and order your food at the counter, as one does at Aloh-O. I think my family and I will come here from time to time, but we'd come a lot more often if they had lower prices at lunch and included miso shiru with their combo bentos. read more

Hubs and I got takeout. Bowl 1: Sushi Rice (which is cold), Tuna, Original Sauce, Corn, Edamame, Green Onion, Avo. Hubs liked it! Bowl 2: White Rice (which is warm), Tuna, Extra Scoop of Crab, Original Sauce, Avo, Cucumber, Seaweed Salad, Green Onion. Added some of their Spicy Mayo as an after thought. Cost was about $28 for both bowls. The fish was fresh (although we both had a piece that was a little off the mark). The sauces were delicious. I would describe the original sauce as tangy (like vinegar) but a little sweet. Next time I want to try the spicy version. I wasn't a huge fan of the warm white rice but flavor was good! The seaweed salad was excellent! All in all it was great and we will try it again. read more

Finally a poke place in San Rafael! I lived in Hawaii for 3 years and this is the closest I've gotten to island style poke. I had the salmon and yellowtail and bother were very fresh and flavorful. Portions of fish are cut at an appropriate and generous size. Perfect spot to grab a quick bite and a beer! Keep up the great work, guys! read more

The food is good. The owner was kind of rude today.... I placed my order thru the app (like I usually do), I came in and paid for it and waited, once I seen that it was ready, I walked back in and grabbed my order, the owner stopped me and asked me if that was my order (that he just seen me pay for) I said yes and walked out. Now here is the problem, another lady came in and did the same thing, but he didn't question her at all. I called him on the phone and explained to him that I was offended and I didn't want to say anything to him in front of our customers. He was VERY VERY dismissive and was trying to get off the phone. It's okay. The place at the mall was better but unfortunately has closed down. There's a big sign right by the register in handwriting warning of the health effects of raw fish - kinda makes me worry. Place is really dark and kinda depressing. I noticed a musty almost dirty rag smell when walking in. I do like how you get miso soup and green tea with your order which no one else does. The food is made in eye sight which I feel is important when it comes to sushi. They bring your food to your table after you place your order which is kinda of a hybrid fast food/restaurant touch. The staff say very little and seem like a cross from bored to pissed off at times. They have a neat selection of candy and other snacks from Asia. It's a nice place to go for a quite meal on your own. I plan on going back but it's not really a go to place for me. If I'm around the area and feel like poke in North San Rafael I'd go. Otherwise downtown San Rafael has better options. Lastly I didn't like how they used cheap Romain lettuce. Mixed greens looks so much better in a bowl and is healthier. Finally a poke place in Marin! And it lived up to my expectations!! All the ingredients are very good quality and fresh. Restaurant itself is very clean and staff was very friendly and accommodating. I got a poke bowl with tuna and salmon and my mom got an unagi and avocado roll. Both were delicious!! A little bit too much rice compared to the portion of fish but i was not left hungry after finishing. The bento boxes also looked great and I will have to try that next time. Highly recommend!!! We were looking forward to having poke in Terra Linda. Most of the other reviews addressed size of serving (vs. price) and the gloominess of the place. It definitely could use some color. It could also use a visit and severe scolding by a Japanese Gordon Ramsey, who could teach the people what they are supposed to be making. For example, their "tempura" was really KATSU. That's breaded and deep fried, instead of battered. My boss used to say: "If you wanna run with the big dogs, you gotta lift your leg high!". Yes, Japanese food can be more profitable than other Asian foods, but you're expected to walk the walk. Ikoi, just up Freitas Parkway, not only walks the walk, they make excellent Japanese food without Japanese chefs or servers. Aloh-o needs to shape up. read more

Mediocre poke. This place is a joke and that goes to anyone who rated this place 5 stars is also a joke as well. 1. They are not generous with the fish. You only get 2 scoops of protein as well for the price of $12.95. Add another scoop for $2.50. The worse part of this is that they include artificial crab meat as a protein/scoop. 2. The service is slow. If you go to any other poke restaurant, it is like a Chipotle-style setting, as you're telling the worker what you want as you're ordering. Quick, simple, and efficient unlike Aloh-o. 3. Not a big deal, but they serve tortilla chips instead of wonton chips. Only poke place I've been to that does that. I am not a food guru but I definitely know that this place does not serve or compete up to par in comparison to poke restaurants in the city or in San Jose. read more

The sushi is standard, not bad. The taro boba was awful. The worst I've ever tasted (and I've tried a lot of milk tea from all over the Bay Area). Cool hole in the wall place, in the midths of the Northgate Area. It's a fast casual restaurant where you order at the counter, and they give you table service with your food. However, the interior could get an uplift in lighting and cleanliness because it was very dark with sticky tables. I ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu. They gave big portions at $11.95, which is a good deal nowadays. The chicken teriyaki was nothing to rave about, as it was mediocre, but the chicken katsu was everything it needed to be. The chicken katsu was big in portions and hit the spot really good. The salad wasn't much to rave about, but decent. I would probably come back here if I was ever in the area. read more
