    The Food Truck (11/12/22). @AlohaFridaysLA @STFoodCinema @TheAutry #GriffithPark #HawaiianFood #FoodTruck

(Dined 11/12/22 SA @ 6:00pm): It was aloha Fridays whenever you saw this food truck at the next event you attended! I recently enjoyed a viewing of "A Christmas Story Christmas" during a Street Food Cinema event at The Autry Museum Of The American West At Griffith Park when I was first introduced to Aloha Fridays Food Truck. Although I frequently attended, worked, or volunteered at the myriad of year-around events throughout Southern California, this was my very first encounter with this meals-on-wheels establishment. Because I loved all-things Hawaiian, I didn't even give the other food trucks a glance and made a beeline here. Would I feel the aloha spirit while I ate their grindz on a Saturday and not Friday!? QUICK BIO "When you're looking for a taste of island life, look no further than Aloha Fridays! This tropical truck is serving up some seriously authentic Hawaiian dishes such as golden and crispy Chicken Katsu, plump Garlic shrimp, slow-cooked Kalua Pork, and much more. And don't forget the sides: white rice and macaroni salad along with fresh green salads to complete your meal. So visit this truck today if you want something truly delicious from an exotic locale that'll get in touch with both your stomach (and soul). If you're craving beautiful food from a beautiful place, come out to this truck and say 'Aloha!'" PURCHASE Hawaiian Sun Guava Nectar Drink 11.5floz Can ($3.00): One of my favorite beverage brands, I loved their entire line of island flavor drinks and guava was near the top of my list with its aromatic fragrance, subtle sweetness, and a hint of actual guava as a textural sensation ran across your tongue and down your throat - blissfulness https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=yq247ZhNJdB0KvBvyknxcg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Spam Musubi ($4.00): Fried spam rolled in white rice and nori, an iconic Hawaiian snack everyone should try at least once but hopefully countless times more. They must've kept this in a steamer because it was still fresh and warm; I should've ordered two https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=4-VEkxwXYRRITzSzzRGdpg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! Kalua Pork & Teriyaki Chicken w/Mac Salad & Greens Combo Plate ($19.00): Slow-cooked shredded pork, chicken prepared with homemade teriyaki sauce, macaroni pasta mixed with veggies and mayo, and spring mixed salad with homemade dressing, this was the quintessential plate lunch meal for the every-person that has expanded far beyond that. The kalua pork melted in your mouth, the teriyaki chicken was soft and sweet, the mac salad was fine but wished it had pineapple and another scoop, and the greens was simply a palate cleanser. I devoured this generous meal and wanted to lick the container, too https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jhMJJeuarSmFQRNodOuaQQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw! SERVICE A friendly man greeted me outside the truck, quickly took my order, and a little over ten minutes later my food and drink were ready and given to me by a nice woman from inside the truck. Thankfully, I arrived before the crowds started to gather. All was straightforward and greatly appreciated! PARKING (FREE) Being a food truck, they were at the beck and call wherever the event was held. In this case, the event took place at a museum adjacent to a zoo with plenty of free parking all around. Another option was a driving service like a bus, taxi, Lyft, or Uber (no nearby Metro train station) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE Your standard self-sufficient food truck with an exterior food menu, separate order and pick up windows, an area for condiments, napkins, and utensils were given to you, no designated seating area, and natural lighting was prevalent during the daytime while decent electric street and truck lighting glowed at night. There were no TVs unless you considered the movie screen while both DJed and live music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7fD6HII41s7XChIB7UtugQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Aloha Fridays Food Truck got my attention, and I would love to try them again. The menu was varied enough interspersed with meats and seafood dishes, sides, desserts, and drinks. The prices were very comparable (I recently had a similar plate lunch at a food stand for only a couple bucks less), the food and portion sizes were amazing, and the service was efficient. I found total value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $30.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX! 5.0 STARS

    Spicy tuna is gross

This food truck was located at the Pomona Fairgrounds for the Elf on the Shelf event for 2021. Sadly, I do not have to say anything remarkable about the customer service or the food. Given the fact that this was the only food truck at the event, I assumed the food would be good. However, I was terribly mistaken. I ordered the spicy tuna bowl for 15.00 and I was not impressed with the customer service nor my meal. The spicy tuna was flavorless and had an odd "fishy" smell indicating the fish was definitely not fresh. My husband ordered the garlic shrimp which was bland and smelled terrible. The shrimp smelled fowl, in addition to not even tasting like garlic. Unfortunately, we will both not order from this food truck ever again. I do not recommend trying this place, unless you want to risk getting sick.

Great spam musubi and poke musubi! A lot of traditional options and great truck! Quick service and quality ingredients.

Aloha in the Hawaiian language means more than hello or goodbye; it means affection, peace, love, compassion, and mercy. I am grateful that this trucks lives up to their name. This truck showed me compassion, mercy, and affection all at the times when I needed it the most. My aunt just passed away a few days ago and I was feeling self destructive so I drank wayyyyyy too much. Stumbling back to my car I "stumbled" into this truck. Minutes later I find myself hunched over their trashcan hurling my brains out. One of the main guys Ross was nice enough to see how I was and if I was doing okay. Since I had just hurled all my organs out of my body I thought it best to eat something to help with the drunkenness. Ross and Armando suggested the Loco Moco and it was PERFECTION! A thick hamburger patty with 2 fried eggs and gravy on top of rice served piping hot with some macaroni salad. All i can say was it was the perfect remedy to the shittiness I was feeling. It made me feel human again. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/EmN-zZ1VCO7iUd_o6M7pnw?select=NsyyZDdPPsm474UTzCiPbQ You know you want it :) Freudian much?

My cousin and I tried this truck last night during a windy night on food truck row in GH. I was anticipating a great meal from this truck after reading all the rave reviews about their Loco Moco. Unfortunately, our meal was not satisfying but rather disappointing. The dish comes with two meat patties and two eggs over rice with a side salad and macaroni salad. We watched him flatten out the meat patties and fry them on the grill while the eggs were cooked over easy in a frying pan. The gravy was warmed in a pot that looked burnt and dried on the sides of the pot and did not look appetizing at all. Fortunately, we did not taste any of the burnt gravy on our meal. The patties were placed on a bed of cold rice and generously topped with gravy, and served with the two sides. When we got home and started to dig in, one of the patties was cooked to perfection, but the other patty was still raw, pink, and cold inside. Coming from a food truck, I would expect the hamburger patty to be cooked well due to fear of salmonella. There wasn't really anything desirable about the entire meal. The macaroni salad also lacked any flavor.

    Loco moco (gravy on side).

Not the best in Hawaiian cuisine, that's for sure.... I had the Loco Moco and sure it was OK - but what I can't get over is how much they charge for their plates when you can go to L&L or Ono's or Ohana's for a bigger plate for a smaller chunk of change. And tastier too. I can't completely knock them solely on price alone though. As we all know, food truck foods come at a price (something that's always hard for me to digest). As for my loco moco, the pattie was cooked A-OK, as was the egg, but the gravy left something to be desired. Was a bit too salty for my taste, but then I needed that gravy or the meat would have been a little too dry (on the outside atleast). Their mac salad was good. Wouldn't come here again, but I do see it's intrigue!

Teriyaki Chicken-Beef Plate (no Macaroni, no salad extra rice)

I've been coming to this Food Truck for a while and was surprised that i hadn't written a review for it. i ordered the Teriyaki Chicken/Beef Plate today (see picture) it was pretty good and filling. i would recommend this food truck to anyone to try.

    Mochiko Chicken

I finally got to try their Mochiko chicken! I've tried ordering it twice and failed because they ran out. It was definitely worth the wait. A good portion of juicy chicken fried to perfection. What made it so delicious was the Mochiko (sweet rice flour) as an ingredient in the batter. They must've put some addictive chemicals in there because I kept eating it even though I was full. Forget Loco Mocos! Mochiko chicken is my new favorite Hawaiian dish!

Way back when, the runny egg used to scare me... Too gloopy and messy. But then i started to realize how that runny yolk will take certain foods to another yummy level, especially against fried breading, or scooped up with some carbs.... The Loco Moco plate came with two heaps of hamburger patties in this delicious gravy over rice with fried egg that split open with glorious yolky goo. I havent' had much loco moco in my life (too me moco means something entirely different- so i stayed clear many years)- but i can say that i really liked my plate which also came with a small side of green salad with sweet dressing and some mac salad. The mac salad i was hoping would be epic, cuz i LOVE mac salad, but this one was a little too black peppery for me. Dude reminded me of my handy dandy mac salad add on= SHOYU. Shoyu and mayo is a match made in the rising sun. The guys who work the truck are friendly. Prices are reasonable. The plates can take awhile - i like how u can see the guys cooking your food through the window. Next time, i need my spam musubi fix.

    Kalua Pork

Even though we had already had dinner, when Kent D, Tuan C and I saw Aloha Fridays parked outside the Tiki No bar, we knew we wanted to try it! The guys on the truck were SO nice, they even offered to bring our food inside the bar so we could sit inside and wait. That kind of service alone deserves 5 stars, in my book! Then when we tried the food, giving them 5 stars was a no-brainer: Kalua Pork $7 - a generous serving of tender and perfectly seasoned pork, with cabbage, over rice. With a lightly dressed salad and macaroni salad on the side, this was a generous portion - and not overly salty like some Kalua Pork dishes I've tried. Loco Moco $7 - OMG this was GREAT! A big, tender hamburger patty, topped with two fried eggs and a meaty-rich brown gravy, over rice. Also served with lightly dressed salad and macaroni salad. This carb-rejector (of late) had a REALLY hard time staying away from the rice soaked in the Loco Moco gravy and the super yummy macaroni salad! Oh, evil carbs, how you taunt me : /. If I sum it all up: 1) awesome service 2) large portions 3) great tasting comfort food 4) value for your dollar I'd say this makes Aloha Fridays one of THE BEST TRUCKS AROUND!

Lucky for me that Aloha Friday to set up shop on a Tuesday because I finally got the Loco Moco that another truck failed on. And it was worth the wait. Don't let the fact that they are a trailer pulled by an Econoline scare you off; this is a real gourmet vehicle by any means. Aloha Friday is an authentic Hawai'ian truck with authentic plate lunches served by two authentic hawai'ian co-owners. Ross the frontman and Armando the chef. Served in a plate with three compartments, the Loco Moco is a bed of white rice, two burger patties, brown gravy and a fried egg.. Everything was perfect; the burgers were firm, the rice was soft, the gravy was thick and the egg was fried perfectly. if I was the cook, I would probably throe a little more brown gravy on there, but i always think that. Most of you would be pleased though. The other two compartments are a big scoop of great macaroni salad, and a smaller green salad, with a rich Italian dressing. You can't improve on it either. it was $7.00 tax included and the Diet Coke was only a dollar more. "Gourmet Food Truck #101 on my never-ending quest to try every truck in So Cal"

Loco Moco, mac salad, and green salad on which I put spicy- mayo. So good! I got Spam Musubi too.

I'm not a fan of food trucks but I'm so glad this one came over to Downtown where I work. I got the Loco Moco...it was very tasty, very filling, and well- worth the $12. I liked the texture of the two hamburger patties, the rice was cooked perfectly, the gravy was flavorful, yet not too salty. Then when you mix all that with the egg, it's SO good. I was a happy camper. I liked the mac salad, and I put some spicy-mayo on my green salad. I was planning on saving some for later, but I finished the whole thing!!I hope Aloha Fridays comes back to Downtown because I want to try their other plate lunches...hopefully just like today, there is no line. Service was good and my food was ready in a timely manner.

Haha, it's definitely been awhile since I've gotten Hawaiian cuisine and when I saw this truck I HAD to get it! The menu is simple - 6 or 7 dishes ranging from teriyaki chicken or beef to spam musubi. I've tried both the teriyaki chicken and beef and I've been pleasantly surprised both times - not just by the quality, but the QUANTITY. GEEEZ do they give you a lot. They PILE on the meat and rice, with generous portions of salad and macaroni salad. Definitely plus 1000 bonus points for that. I can't even finish my portion for lunch and it only costs $8!!! As much as I really like this truck, it takes FOREVER to get your food if there's a line. This place is NOT fast. The past two times I've been here, I've had to wait 30-45 minutes for my food. I wish I was exaggerating :( Look, if there's no line where this truck is - this is a must try! It's good, greasy, Hawaiian cuisine that will last you a LONG time and it's pretty darn cheap. But if there's a line ... you might want to either re-think OR be willing to wait awhile for your food. Other than that, I love this truck. Definitely gives me delicious lunch AND dinner :)

To be honest this spot came through so many times after a night of too many drinks and needing something to come back to life. I've tried several items from the menu including the torta, quesadillas, tacos, dorados de birria, and carne asada, and everything has been flavorful and satisfying. The birria tacos are definitely a standout. Service is always great and fast, which makes it an easy stop when you're craving good street food. This texture fades extremely quickly as the minutes tick by. True for any restaurant, but especially true here. I finally got around to trying Birrieria San Marcos. I bought $100+ worth of food which included: Quesobirria, Soft tacos, Tacos dorados, Tacos dorados with cheese, Burrito, Tacos San Marcos, Consome, and Rice. The good: I was able to eat a soft taco on the spot before getting my order into the car and driving 2.5 miles home. That first taco was divine. I didn't dress it up at all, just took it down raw and it was good. The soft tortilla and consome soaked birria worked well together. The rest of the food came home. The first bites at home were solid. The dorados with cheese was especially good. Two of the three salsas slapped. One wasn't my cup of tea, as it lacked flavor and seasoning and brought only heat. There was no salsa edible to my heat intolerant wife. The bad: Everything is one note. Once things cooled a bit and textures started to settle into some kind of homogeneous middle ground, everything tasted like everything else. Made me realize that everything kinda is everything else. Consomé soaked tortilla, crisped and/or heated and filled with stewed beef, sometimes with cheese, sometimes without. The quesadilla is kind of like the dorados with cheese, which is kinda like the mulita, which isn't far from the vampiro. The burrito wasn't much different either. The tacos San Marcos was the only texture/flavor break in the mix, which I was grateful for. The ugly: The beef is overstewed. As such, it's dry. Unavoidable, as it's stewed in hot broth all day. Because of this it's necessary to eat the food immediately, before the consomé spills or soaks away from the meat. The maximal deliciousness is super high. The floor is pretty far down relatively.
