It was an honor to see how this small farm is maintaining the heritage and history after the large corporations have abandoned the islands. The pineapple they grow is absolutely delicious and I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about it. Our tour guide was Brian, and he was extremely funny and engaging throughout. We took a short ride from the general store, which is where you check in, up to the farm to see the various stages of growth. We learned how the pineapples are harvested and I have a newfound respect for the amount of work it takes to grow a single pineapple. The highlight for me was learning how to properly cut a pineapple, which I thought would be no easy feat, but once you know how to do it, it is extremely simple. Sampling the pineapple out in the Maui sunshine was the cherry on top. I highly recommend coming to take this tour and if not, at least stopping by the store to purchase some fresh pineapple or other pineapple related products.

We could not have had a group that meshed BETTER than all of us. We paid and drove in and parked. There was no problem finding a spot. There wasn't a whole lot to see as far as the lavender growing or blooming, but we enjoyed what was available. We stopped in the market store and bought some organic lavender tea, brownies, and candy. I bought a sticker and my DIL also bought a couple of things to bring home for friends. There is seating with umbrellas which we enjoyed. It was another beautiful day in Maui. After the grandkids were finished, we went out to the large field. The adults enjoyed sitting in the grass and kiddos enjoyed rolling around in the soft grass.

Not only did we get to ride in comfort with all our stuff, but we also customized every stop. We could easily say "yes" or "no" to any stop on the Road to Hana. Our tour guide Chris was excellent, informative, and fun to hang out with for the entire day. Chris had great recommendations for us and the food stops were amazing and delicious and tailored to what we were feeling or not feeling. We had a general idea of the stops we wanted to hit based on our research, but Chris went above and beyond to show us unique stops and views and scenic views. We made great memories and got to experience the road to Hana in a way that far exceeded our expectations. All though it was not the most affordable way to experience the road to Hana, we still felt it was worth the cost. It will be a great memory for us for years to come. I can now say I swam in a waterfall....a very cold one, but definitely worth it. Chris knows these roads and all the stops you might want to see, and he customized it to our level of adventure, including hikes and swims along the way. You can definitely find cheaper alternatives, but I would suggest speaking with Awapuhi Adventures to see if they can meet your needs. The pros of going private is that you are in the drivers seat (figuratively) for where and when to stop, and can skip anything that seems generic or not to your liking. He did everything he could to make everyone feel comfortable, included, and safe despite the challenging conditions. His professionalism, patience, and positive attitude truly stood out, and he deserves every bit of a 5-star rating. We made sure he knew how much we appreciated his hard work. Cons: If you're expecting an experience similar to Waimea Falls--a beautiful, safe, and enjoyable way to explore nature--this tour is unfortunately nothing like that. The concierge at Hyatt appeared to have little understanding of what the trek actually involved. The entire route was muddy, slushy, and extremely slippery. People were constantly losing their footing on wet rocks, tree roots, fallen branches, and uneven terrain. In several places, a slip could have easily resulted in a serious injury. These hazardous conditions continued for virtually the entire hike. If Maui has experienced recent rainfall, I strongly recommend thinking twice before booking this excursion. The trail conditions can become genuinely dangerous, and in my opinion, the risk simply isn't worth it. I only wish someone had been honest with us before we spent the money and put our family in that situation. Please do your own research, check recent trail conditions, and don't assume that every guided excursion is appropriate simply because it's sold through a resort or has high ratings. I would gladly pay the same $250 per person (price we paid for a 5 hr tour - hotel pick up from Hyatt) for a well-maintained state-owned park with established safety measures and properly maintained trails. Unfortunately, this tour fell far short of those standards and simply wasn't the right experience for us.

We began our drive and Willie pulled off on this little beach, and said he wanted to show us something. We walked down, and there were sea turtles all over the beach which just made my MIL's day right off the bat. Then we went to the most delicious breakfast spot I have ever been to, hands down. All along the way, he told us about the areas we were driving through, the weather there, and gave us cool little tidbits of information. We went to the Garden of Eden where to my surprise, I got ENGAGED! Willie was so sweet and so happy for us, hugs all around. He truly made that moment, and the whole day really feel like we were with a friend we'd known forever. We went to the most amazing, secret waterfall and got to swim in the swimming hole and jump off rocks with no one else around! This was the absolute most beautiful spot I've ever been in my life and we never would've found it on our own or without Willie. Anyways, we did so much and there are so many details I could share but I would write a book if I shared the entire 11 hour day with you! Ryan was so passionate and knowledgeable not only about coconuts but also conservation and sustainability - we were all amazed at the work he put in for his farm.
