Went on the Road to Hana tour with my family of six, led by Mak. Three adults, two 13's and one 11. All of us lasted through the 14 hour day. Highly recommend!! Day started off with Mak picking us up at 6:30 AM on the dot, where we then went to the ABC store for a quick and delicious on-the-go breakfast. From there we went clockwise around the island, stopping at locations such as various cliffs and a small honey stand for amazing sites and treats (highly recommend the vanilla bean honey if it is available)! Throughout the drive, Mak kept us entertained with different stories on Hawaii's history; his 5 part story lasted us the whole day! Lol. The first waterfall we stopped at was gorgeous. However, be prepared to encounter lots of mosquitoes! (P.S. come with your swimsuits under your clothes so you don't make the mistake of having to change in the car like we did) After the first waterfall, we stopped by Caroline's Fresh Fruit for, as the name implies, plenty of Maui grown fruits. The family favorites were the mango and passion fruit! Shortly after purchasing the fruit we headed over to Huli Huli Chicken for one of the best meals I've ever had (according to Gordan Ramsay as well)! Next major stop after the amazing meal was Black Sand Beach! The blow hole and lava tube were amazing. If you plan on going into the ocean at the beach, however, I recommend bringing water shoes. Not just crocs or flip flops, but actual water shoes with closed toes since the rocks fly up when waves come in and get painfully trapped in your shoes. Please note that in this review I am only mentioning major checkpoints throughout the day. There were many small stops but including each and every one would make this review an entire novel! Last waterfall(s) we swam in was beautiful (there was an upper waterfall and lower waterfall). One thing to note is since it is higher up in elevation, the water temperature is low! Mak informed us the temperature is equivalent of an ice bath! Don't let this scare you though, if you follow Mak and jump in it's not too bad. To end the day we stopped at a beach where dozens of sea turtles were sun bathing on the shore during the sunset. It was truly amazing. To sum it all up, Mak took us on a wonderful adventure around practically the entire island of Maui while keeping us entertained and teaching us on Hawaii's history. Highly recommend requesting Mak specially for this tour. Amazing tour guide, I don't think I'd do this tour again if Mak wasn't there!

Mark was Amazing! Super attentive, caring, and knowledgeable. It felt like we were with family and that's just how I like it. Refreshing to not hear a tired out spiel that's been retold and retold. He kinda felt us out in the beginning to sense our style( laid back vs bus tour guide) He made us laugh, showed us his home island and shared great spots. He was flexible with areas he sensed we wanted more time and moved it along in areas we weren't as interested. Great guy! Great tour! Great day exploring the island while learning about its history and culture from a local Thank you Mark!!! Oh yeah he even showed interest in our kiddos and shared a bit about his. We really loved this tour and appreciate Mark going above and beyond! Thank you Mark and Thank you Hawaii by storm!

We did the full-day Road to Hana tour with Hawaii by Storm, and it was hands down one of the best things we did in Maui. Our guide, Dustyn, was awesome--super chill, super patient, and just a fun guy to hang with. He let us kind of steer the day based on what we were into, but always had great suggestions that made everything better. You could tell he really knows the island and loves what he does. Also... if you're gonna spend an entire day in a car with someone you don't know, you want it to be Dustyn. The guy's just easy to be around. And the vehicle was spotless and super comfortable, which made the whole drive even better. Can't recommend this tour enough. It was a 10 out of 10 day.

Our family did the Epic Road to Hāna tour with Marc and had the best day! I was very nervous that I would be car sick but did not (he even stopped to get me a ginger drink before we started). Marc was a great driver, super knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We saw so much, had a great lunch and made lots of fun stops along the way! Highly recommend!!

My family was visiting and we did the Famous Epic Hana tour. I decided rather than me driving we would get experience and knowledge of an expert. I am glad we did. Mark was excellent - knowledgeable, patient, funny and generally a good guy. Ages ranged from 83 to 13 and everyone had a great time. Highly recommend.

We had an absolutely amazing time on our Road to Hana Tour with Mark! We were able to see all the landmarks on our list and Mark shared his love for Maui and Hawaii with us all. It was a special day!

    Waterfall swimming!

We took the half day Hana tour today and had the best trip. Mike was the best. He was so knowledgeable and friendly. He showed us everything and had a story to tell about all the places and people we met. True Hawaiian spirit and a gorgeous day of sea, wind, rain, forests and streams. Mahalo!

We had a great experience on the Road to Hana last week with our guide Nani! We knew our time to see Maui would go by fast and a tour bus wouldn't cut it. So we searched for a private tour to enjoy the stops for the amount of time we wanted. Hawaii by Storm offered exactly what we were looking for. Nani picked us up right on time, she knew where all the great places were so we didn't miss a thing, and we stopped at every one of them. She looked out for us and kept us on track to see everything we asked about (and all the gems we wouldn't have found on our own). It was great talking with Nani and asking questions about the island, the culture, and the people. Our family had a wonderful time on the tour. We're excited to go back and visit Tobi's Poke and Shave Ice!

    Rainbow eucalyptus

Road to Hana. Kainani was THE best guide ever - hands down the best tour guide I have ever had I have a zillion pictures. Black and red sand beaches, a lava tube, turtles and sea lions, rainbow eucalyptus, banana bread, maui chocoate farm,Huli Huli chicken and tons of waterfalls. Plus one scary road

We had the BEST tour of Hana with Mak last week. We debated on making the drive ourselves, but just a few minutes in to the trip, we were appreciating the fact that we booked a tour with Hawaii by Storm instead. First, the entire booking process was a breeze. I accidentally entered the wrong e-mail address and immediately received a phone call from the owner, because the confirmation e-mail was rejected and he wanted to check on the e-mail address. Then, the night before our tour, Mak called to introduce himself and give us the run down for the next day. Mak arrived right on time and after just meeting our family once, called everyone by name and treated us like family the rest of the day. Our first stop was the Island Market for breakfast. Since we had just arrived the day before, being introduced to this gem was a huge game-changer for the rest of our trip! On the trip, we always felt confident in Mak's driving and safe on a road that is quite challenging. As we drove, Mak shared stories and history of the island and answered many questions. He shares a love of basketball with our boys, so he even shared some information about pickup ball on the island and NBA trivia. Our stops and timing we planned perfectly. We made a few stops on the way up to Hana, but left some of the busier ones for the way home. One of those was a waterfall that was teeming with people on our way up. Our teenage son admitted that if Mak wasn't driving, he would have demanded we stop to swim! But, as Mak predicted, the waterfalls weren't busy at all when we stopped. Every stop was perfect and Mak did a great job of making sure we knew what to do at the stops and what rules were important to follow for our safety as well as respect for locals and Hawaiian culture. One of the stops my kids raved about the most was lunch! Mak recommended the poke nachos at the food trucks in Hana and we are still talking about how good they were. Everywhere we went, even while driving, Mak knew everyone. We heard stories about family, growing up on the island as a kid, and the Hawaiian ancestors and culture. He also knew exactly where to take photos both from the car or at the stops. We have tons of family photos from the trip. Over and over, our family kept saying that we were so thankful we decided to book the tour. The general consensus was that we would have probably missed a lot of great stops, and fought a lot if we decided to drive the road alone. Book Hawaii by Storm and request Mak. You won't regret it!

He did everything he could to make everyone feel comfortable, included, and safe despite the challenging conditions. His professionalism, patience, and positive attitude truly stood out, and he deserves every bit of a 5-star rating. We made sure he knew how much we appreciated his hard work. Cons: If you're expecting an experience similar to Waimea Falls--a beautiful, safe, and enjoyable way to explore nature--this tour is unfortunately nothing like that. The concierge at Hyatt appeared to have little understanding of what the trek actually involved. The entire route was muddy, slushy, and extremely slippery. People were constantly losing their footing on wet rocks, tree roots, fallen branches, and uneven terrain. In several places, a slip could have easily resulted in a serious injury. These hazardous conditions continued for virtually the entire hike. If Maui has experienced recent rainfall, I strongly recommend thinking twice before booking this excursion. The trail conditions can become genuinely dangerous, and in my opinion, the risk simply isn't worth it. I only wish someone had been honest with us before we spent the money and put our family in that situation. Please do your own research, check recent trail conditions, and don't assume that every guided excursion is appropriate simply because it's sold through a resort or has high ratings. I would gladly pay the same $250 per person (price we paid for a 5 hr tour - hotel pick up from Hyatt) for a well-maintained state-owned park with established safety measures and properly maintained trails. Unfortunately, this tour fell far short of those standards and simply wasn't the right experience for us.

The answer was Yes, one can change into swimsuits during lunch before the black sand beach visit and then change out of them at a stop after the waterfall stop to be dry for the ride back to the hotels. A few days before our tour I received an email confirmation that included other useful information, such as bring along swimwear, towels, water shoes and a light jacket for the air conditioned van. I had not considered the A/C and I'm always cold, so that is a very welcome heads-up. On the day of our tour we received texts that the driver was on his way. Pretty close to the scheduled meeting time the van pulled up to our resort. The van was spacious with huge windows. Our tour was full with all 12 passenger seats occupied. Our driver/guide was Travis. He was born and raised in Hana and was a wealth of knowledge about Hana, Maui, and Hawaii. He seemed to be related to all the locals he passed on the road. There was not dull moment. Among the stops along the way were Maui Tropical Plantation for breakfast, Auntie Sandy's Banana Bread stand for those that wished to purchase, Wai'anapanapa State Park (black sand beach, also with a lava tube and a blow hole), Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park (usually calm enough to swim but the falls were roaring due to rain earlier in the day), and Ho'okipa Beach with turtles on the beach. Travis was an excellent driver and guide. We got great value from the cost of the excursion. One minor thing did bother us. We are Jewish and were uncomfortable during the praising Jesus sing-along. Regardless, we recommend this tour and especially Travis as a guide.

Pickup was on time although they text us that morning saying the pickup would be 5-10 minutes early. While I appreciated the company's responsiveness in honoring my special seating request, our front (first) row seats on the bus labeled "Alaka'i" had a very narrow window that required us to strain our necks to see the views outside. I noticed that the other three Valley Isle buses on tours that day did not appear to have this issue. I provided the company feedback regarding this seating issue. In our humble opinion, these seats should not be sold. My advice: to avoid the kind of disappointment we experienced, you should always ask for seat reservations and note clearly and specifically to the company that you do not want the first row seats on a bus with seating configuration like Alaka'i's. If you don't and you are picked up last, you will risk getting stuck in these seats from sunrise to sundown. Regarding the amenities, the breakfast was underwhelming, consisting only of a pre-arranged plate of a few pieces of fruit and 2 small muffins. The driver did remind us this was going to be a continental breakfast. There are many versions of continental breakfast but this one truly disappoints. Additionally, the lunch provided, though delicious, was not from the "world-famous" Huli Huli chicken location as the guide led everyone to believe; instead, the guide brought pre-packaged boxes of food from another source. (Please see similar experience from earlier reviews.) My advice: feed yourself before they pick you up or bring something more fulfilling to eat on the bus between breakfast and lunch. Finally, while our driver was incredibly knowledgeable about Maui's culture and history, his demeanor was sometimes overbearing. He frequently called out guests for yawning or dozing off and insisted on undivided attention during his occasional politically biased historical recount. All this made part of the tour experience feel more like a classroom than a tour. He also ridiculed all the not-so-nice reviews he has received. He will probably tell you about this one, too. So buyers beware: your Valley Isle guide could be a bit too much fun for you. :-)

Overall the tour was educational, but not really structured…read more We arrived and were met by the guide who was full of energy...and for the sake of me, I can't remember his name..I think Ryan...but you'll know him when you see him. As an incentive planner, I try to find cool, unique and elevated experiences for my clients. I bought these tickets myself without any VIP or comps for me and my family to get the real experience. Here's the "not so good" - it just wasn't structured. We kind of hopped around without a solid plan, but by no means did we not get questions answered or not see what we wanted to. It's a very large farm, so we didn't see the entirety of it, but this is where a golf cart, or some sort of tram would be appropriate for small or medium groups, especially since we wanted to see parts of the farm that looked less traversed and more remote. Also...price. This was not worth the price we paid. A price point of $20-$35 would be more appropriate for the tour, whether 5 or 20 guests. I don't think we'd return anytime soon for this price point, but the guide was a great guy and really makes the tour more interesting. They just need more guidance and consulting on how to make a more professional tour structure, visuals, etc. as you would see on most any other tour around the world. The little trailer they have for meals is nice, but we did not eat on site on this visit. This is great for 5-10 guests...anymore would be a little challenging without a tram as it's 100% walking. The kids had a great time and were so thrilled to taste nuts and fresh coconut water right from the shell too! We walked about 2 miles in total but it was a nice leisurely stroll at our pace. He was in no rush, but kept to a good tempo. I think he wants to really expand this tour and grow more in to the region. I would say his love of the land can somewhat encompass the overall tour, but it was very good...I do hope he does incorporate more on how these nuts are formed, some visuals, maybe a small video of some sort as an intro for those who have never had or seen the nuts before. I would encourage him to provide stats as in to how many are grown, shipped, exported, uses and more as part of the tour. This is a great way to spend 1-2 hours learning about macadamia nuts, coconuts, and his love of farming and the land we live on. He's a Hawaiian hippie, but proud to be who he is and we loved that! It made the experience that much better and working with guys like him all my decades, I get and understand him. He did not rush us and he was receptive...but this just needs more structure and a lower price point.
