My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

I would not recommend this company. Their lack of attention to detail made the entire experience…read moreunpleasant. The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

After hearing about our strict timeline he was able to swing by the very next morning to take a look at what we needed done. Out of all the places we contacted, Amosa responded to us the fastest with the most detailed estimate . Other companies took much longer to get back to us. We didn't have to wait an entire day or more for a response. His responsiveness and punctuality was only a few reasons why we chose to go with him. From the get go he went above and beyond to make sure we had what we wanted . We ended up having him do a top cast finishing with diamond cuts control joints . He arrived on time every single day, left the work area clean each day , and even finished ahead of schedule. The new floors look absolutely amazing . Amosa priced the job fairly and was easy to deal with. Communication throughout the process was clear. The foreman on the job, Joe, was very friendly and easy to speak to. Joe let me know if his crew had any questions and confirmed if there was anything that needed to be clarified before proceeding. Furthermore, Amosa would text me periodic updates and let me know beforehand what the schedule was. We had a hiccup after the plumbers had capped off the outside gas line which shut off the water heater. I contacted Amosa to let him know that our hot water was not working and he was able to get the plumber to come to our house on a Sunday to fix the issue. This type of responsiveness and sense of urgency was appreciated (especially for a family with kids). The work was completed on time and the concrete is a welcome upgrade to the old uneven walkway that we had before. Amosa and Joe's team rerouted some electrical conduit, capped gas lines that were no longer being used and poured new concrete. I recommend AM Masonry & Concrete.

He lives up to the positive comments stated about him. I believe he charges a fair value for his work and his team is actually quite large. My project request included the following: -- Front yard update: removing existing grass and cement bar, adding new astroturf, 6x6 cement slab, adding Decomposed Granite garden and 50 Gallon preformed pond. -- My Backyard request was to remove 1 pergola, and dividing wall, new astroturf, Decomposed Granite side and back wall with plant decor, new valves and sprinkler system. Lastly it included adding in an outdoor kitchen. It took less than 2 weeks start to finish M-Sa, and with 6-7 guys each day. They cleaned up after themselves each day and kept the haul away area to a specific area. They didn't play loud music. Just had an overall good work ethic. I'll let the pictures do the rest...

Recently, my husband and I had the pleasure of working with TJ and Aloha Pavers in order to renovate our front and backyards. The initial consultation, the entire planning process, the work ethic, and the end result all exceeded our expectations; we were left with not only a stunning walkway, beautiful patio, and custom fire pit, but also an incredible customer service experience. We initially heard about TJ through a close family member who was also impressed with TJ and his crew's professional work ethic and stellar customer service. Out of the three consultations that we had regarding our pavers, TJ's knowledge, affability, and attention to detail was incomparable. Additionally, his pricing was fair, especially considering the high-quality materials that he used to craft our front and back yard renovations. Once we made the very easy decision to choose Aloha Pavers for our project, TJ and his crew worked efficiently to ensure that our project was done in a timely manner, without sacrificing quality. Within a span of three days, our front and backyards were completely transformed. The crew members utilized their expertise and creativity to design a front walkway that features a small built-in garden space. We have lived in our home for 13 years and DESPERATELY needed to upgrade our yard. We had next-to-no drainage, very old brick and a ton of swampy grass. Needless to say, we did NO entertaining and rarely went out back with our kids or dog(s). We had heard from a family member and a neighbor about Aloha Pavers and their owner, TJ. Both of these referrals raved about TJ, his work, and his crew. We gave him a call and we set up an appointment to meet. On a rainy Huntington Beach day, we met with TJ and we never looked back. Our total job time was estimated to take 7 days...it was finished in 6! The crew is clean, respectful of property and they work extremely hard and efficiently. TJ was walking the site numerous times throughout the day, making sure everything was going according to plan and communicating with us. If/When we needed to talk with TJ, he was ALWAYS available. We would text and he would respond immediately or show up at our home. That was a HUGE bonus for us to be able to talk with him when we were doing such a huge overhaul on our yard. We installed pavers, retaining wall, a seating bench and fire pit.....OUR YARD HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED!! We will no doubt call ALOHA PAVERS for any further work and we will refer him to anyone who is looking to start enjoying their yards. Last year my sister needed to have pavers installed in her back yard, after looking up many companies and getting different quotes they ended up going with Aloha Pavers. She literally called me that day singing praise about them. So when the time came for our front yard, drive-way and back yard project. My sister reminded me again about how amazing they were. After meeting with other hardscaping companies, we made an appointment with Aloha Pavers. T.J. Is the one that met with us, he is also the owner, and boy what a difference. T.J. Is very knowledgeable and helpful and just all around pleasant. He gave us a very fair estimate. He also gave us a pretty good idea of what to expect and what they will do. Demo day came, WOW is all I can say. They were fast and very clean. Laying out the pavers is an art with these guys, the whole crew were wonderful. T.J. Was also there every step of the way, he even sealed the pavers himself. I have been frustrated by contractors and their crews before, but T.J. and his crew were all amazing. They work with you and always make sure you are happy with the way it looks. Even our neighbors loved them because they cleaned up everything all the time, very courteous. I selected Aloha Pavers to replace my old, cracked concrete patio almost entirely based on their excellent Yelp reviews. Now I wish to add my acknowledgement of their good work. Chad Steele responded to my inquiry immediately and was very easy to deal with-- congenial, knowledgeable and professional. Based on their reputation, his consultation, the fact that they also include a layer of geotextile fabric and a final sealer (which many companies do not), and what I thought was a good price, I quickly decided to go with Aloha. Surprisingly, they were able to start the job just a few days later, with the work crew showing up at 7am sharp on the first day. Roberto and his guys work incredibly hard, are obviously experienced and efficient, and showed up by 7-7:30 am every day. I was told the job would take 3-5 days, but it was completed in 2 and a half days. Another nice feature is that Chad checked in several times a day to monitor the job and to answer my questions and concerns. There were a couple of small issues regarding the depth of excavation and the curvature of the patio step/porch, but they were resolved by Chad and Roberto quickly and responsively. The patio turned out beautifully and we are very happy with our selection of this quality company. read more

In June 2023, we hired Aloha Pavers to replace the old pavers in our backyard patio, and our concrete driveway and sidewalks. We've built 5 houses over the years, in both California and Canada, and have dealt with dozens of suppliers and contractors. Our wish is they were all as good as TJ and his Aloha crew. Right from the first phone call and meeting TJ was a complete pro: on time, knowledgeable, competitively priced, did exactly what he said he would do and was expected of him, plus he threw in a couple small bonus projects at no extra cost. His crew, headed up by Kevin, did a perfect job! They too were on time, courteous, hardworking, efficient, and professional. Where do we start?! I wished I could give them 10 stars!!! From the first time my husband & I met TJ we knew that this was definitely the company we wanted to do our pavers. After meeting with many other companies, we were getting discouraged on even doing the job. Either the price was too extreme, or the time to get the job done seemed way too long, and just a sense of not feeling comfortable & confident with some of these companies. Thank goodness we waited & came across Aloha Pavers! From start to finish, TJ & his crew came in, got the job done beautifully & with in the time frame planned. My neighbor had Aloha Pavers do their driveway which turned out beautifully. The neighbor's recommendation was, "They're the only contractor I had who arrived on time, did exactly the work they said they would do in the time estimated and for exactly the price they stated." So when my husband and I wanted to replace our driveway and patio with pavers, we called Aloha. We were really pleased with their work and the whole experience - good advice on design, prompt, excellent workmanship and all done for exactly the price quoted. The driveway and patio turned out fabulously well, giving the yard and the whole house a fresh look. Really happy! From the moment we contacted Aloha Pavers, to many months after completion of the job, we are still thrilled with the results. TJ made the entire process a pleasant experience, from the design phase through to the final product. He updated us constantly throughout the construction phase, and took the initiative to complete the final aspect of the job (sealing the pavers) himself in order to look for any issues that need to be addressed. We decided to contact Aloha Pavers based on The excellent Yelp reviews and because they are local. The initial interview with TJ convinced us that Aloha would do a good job replacing our old cracked concrete driveway with pavers. TJ incorporated our ideas into the estimate and gave us a list of existing local customer driveways to look at. After we selected colors and patterns, a schedule was set with an estimated 3-5 day project time. The project was started on time and completed in 2 days, including complete clean up. Great project management, great crew and great job. The driveway and walkways are beautiful and we couldn't be more pleased. If you are looking for paver work, put Aloha at the top of your list. read more

I don't think Aloha needs another good review but I have to do it. They did a fantastic job on my front yard paver job. It was a pretty simple job but I felt like it was a major job for them. The original quote was for 3-5 days and they completed it in 2. All of the work was done in a professional manner and the jobsite was kept clean during and after completion of the work.I felt especially good about the fact that TJ Callahan, president of the company, handled the job in a very professional manner from start to finish. I wish I had called Aloha Pavers first, he could have saved use a lot of money. Now we have just what we wanted and it made our house the best looking in the neighbor hood. The pavers looks great and the drains and slope of the pavers are just what we wanted. Everything can out better then we asked for. TJ and his great crew did a lot of extra work that we did not expect and made the job look 100 time better them we expected. To salvage the opportunity, the salesperson, Chris, texted me and offered to come the following day at noon instead, along with a 5% discount for the inconvenience. I rearranged my schedule twice to accommodate them during what was already an exceptionally difficult time, as I was preparing to say goodbye to my 16-year-old dog that weekend. Chris did arrive on Friday as promised, but a week has now passed and I have received neither a bid nor any follow-up communication from anyone at the company. Shortly after the appointment, their Thumbtack profile was also removed or hidden. While I can't say why, the timing was odd, as it prevented me from leaving a review on the platform where we originally connected. I've uploaded screenshots with this review documenting the interaction, including Chris's last-minute cancellation, his offer of a 5% discount, and the Thumbtack notification showing the company was no longer available on the platform. If reliability, communication, and follow-through are important to you, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Our back yard is incredible now. The crew started when they said they would, and those guys worked super hard. I was amazed at the progress they made each day. The pavers went in very fast. The side yard drainage issue I had is no more! That alone was worth a lot to me. The only hang up was the patio cover. We had to get a permit, and the city took forever because of limited appointments due to COVID. Carlos did his best to keep things moving along. It also took some time to get the materials. I think the price was reasonable for all the work that was done. Carlos checked in regularly, and made sure the job was progressing. Everyone on the crew was very nice when I went out to check on progress. We are very satisfied. I will not hesitate to recommend or use West Hills again in the future.
