TJ was hired to perform "reconstructive" paving on a prior project gone bad. The first thing he noticed at first glance was the prior pavers were not installed correctly as they sloped in the wrong direction, why didn't they install more drains and why didn't they take the water all the way to the street? Aloha re-sloped the pavers so they drain into a newly installed channel drain, they tapped into the rain gutter, they installed 2 more drains so the water flows away from my house, they took all this water to the curb and finally sealed the pavers. The days of having to stay home to keep pumps running so my house does not flood are over. TJ is super easy to work with, he manages his crew and will execute your vision to a completed project that exceeds your expectation - he did for me. I had my house pavers done in 2017. I was going to wait for a while to do a review, well, it's been 5 years and it's still holding up. The job was done pretty quickly, if I remember correctly, it took 3 days and they came out the next week after we got the proposal. One thing I would recommend is covering your key holes on your doors with blue painter tape because the dust from the cutting of tiles and the sand when seal the pavers gets into the key holes. I had to clean them out after. It was mostly clean up after they were done. There were a few thing left over, but not a big deal. TJ also gave me some bull nose pavers for the front step for no extra cost. It looks great. The pavers were set to drain away from house and I wanted to see if it did. Well, when it rained the water drained away from the house. I did have one problem area where the water comes out of a downspout from the gutter. The water eventually eroded the sand between the pavers and combined with the water in the planter draining under the pavers, a few pavers sank down. I was able to pull out the pavers and see that the water ran under the pavers and eroded the sand away. It was a small area and was able to fix it myself. I think the problem was mostly caused by my gutter downspout and planter draining under the pavers and not the way the pavers were installed. But something to be aware of if you have an area where water drains under the pavers. Other than that, it's held up very nicely. I have no complaints on the paver strength and durability. I may have to do my driveway to match the rest of the front. read more

Stop researching any further !... Aloha is it. BLUF: Quality work, on-time, properly installed, most reasonable price. I'll preface this by noting that as I'm also a builder/engineer, I'm highly critical of any contractor. After I evaluated numerous contractors and hired TJ Callahan, owner of Aloha Pavers, I can promise you that they'll deliver THE BEST work you can possibly get. You cannot get better value. Aloha is extremely responsive; TJ made a point to come to my home within days of contacting him. He came on time when he said he would and listened carefully to both my wife and I. It was evident that he understood what we intended to accomplish; he was insightful and honest in his recommendations to reduce costs but not compromise on quality construction, materials, and engineering. Unlike other aggressive corporate contractors that have a "System", he never tried to upsell us or pressure us into signing with Aloha. After meeting with us for over an hour, he spent another 1/2 hour taking measurements, and delivered a detailed design and proposal the next day. In addition to the proposal, he provided the addresses of no less than 30 previous jobs he had completed for us to visit, assess his quality, and obtain ideas to refine our plan. We visited at least half a dozen locations where we not only saw his superior work, but heard from some of the owners who heaped nothing but praise upon him. We contracted soon after with Aloha. As I had my own work to contend with, they were extremely accommodating in scheduling the job exactly when I wanted it so I could be on site. They arrived in force on the day they promised. Our job consisted of demolishing a two-car concrete driveway, walkway, cinderblock walls, and removing extensive organics around the front yard while preserving six mature trees ( with lots of roots), before reconstructing the wall, installing pavers in the driveway (with circle design) and walkway, and emplacing a section of artificial turf. Aloha had sufficient heavy equipment and labor (10 -12 men everyday) to accomplish the work in the 8 days promised. The team was well led and closely supervised. They looked and acted professional and took great care to minimize the disruptions to my neighbors as well. They worked their tails off everyday and reminded me more of the construction crews I'd worked with in Japan than those I'm accustomed to in the US. It's important to note how supportive TJ and his crew were to meet my expectations. I provided additional materials and they willingly laid multiple conduits, low voltage lighting wires, and Ethernet camera-cables for me everywhere I asked. Although I did my best to always be ahead with the plan and materials, they were still EXTREMELY flexible and accommodating. I am so happy to have these extra measures built into the finished project. Regarding quality, Aloha was unmatched above and BELOW the surface. Untrained/unscrupulous contractors may lay pavers more cheaply, but only the best will ensure that below surface preparation is preformed correctly. Aloha painfully excavated through roots systems that many would shortcut. They properly installed an underground drainage network, laid geotextile, and covered and properly compacted base course and sand layers. Rebuilt walls were square, level, and plumb - overbuilt with more horizontal and vertical steel rebar than required, with every cinderblock channel filled with concrete. My paver and yard are stable. My yard will not flood. My walls are unlikely to ever crack again. My artificial turf install is spectacular. Aloha's crew are artisans. Anyone could lay a paving stone, but only a craftsman could space them out perfectly, make the numerous extensive and difficult curves and cuts, and make them fit so beautifully. Truly, it is hard to find craftsmen so skilled. I invite anyone to look at my driveway and walkways that Aloha laid. Lastly, I spent eight days with TJ Callahan. Besides the obvious things I mentioned about a great job for a reasonable price, you probably would not know how well he treats his crews and how he cares for every man on his team. From bringing them breakfast/drinks to compensating them very fairly, to training and developing them to be crew bosses and be successful even after they depart his company. TJ touches everyone and you'd be hard pressed to find a more decent man let alone boss. We can't wait to have Aloha do our back yard next! read more

This review is overdue, it's been over a year now and we are still loving our pavers! We've been wanting to remodel our patio for awhile and finally did it during covid because we wanted to nice backyard/front yard to hang out in since we weren't going anywhere. Not the best time for me having to clean up after them but we had such good memories from it. Once the job started again the guys worked so fast, they were here early in the morning and worked all day. We were promised 10 days and they finished in 9 days and some hours. TJs guys are the most hardworking guys ever, they are so efficient and friendly. I can tell they enjoy working for TJ and TJ treats them so well. TJ would leave a cooler full of drinks and fresh fruits for them in the morning. We have a large park right next to our house and the guys would eat lunch there. They always clean up when the day is over. The best decision I've ever made was hiring TJ and his screw for this job. The end result was better than my expectations. There are SO many companies out there, most will promise you the moon and the stars, just be careful, don't let the glam of technology or amazing proposals tool you. Less is more, meaning TJ is straight to the point, no fancy proposals or fancy contracts with 10 pages. Just old fashion agreement and work ethics that cannot be beat. Pavers are all they do, and no one does it better than TJ and his team at Aloha Pavers. We talked to another paver contractor who said they'll also do our turf, as well as a turf contractor who said they'll also do our pavers, but we prefer to stick with specialists, and we couldn't be happier. They brought out the big bobcat and jackhammers and made short work of our "small project." In one day, they had removed the old grass and original beat up pavers, leveled the area for proper drainage, installed the geotextile fabric and base materials, and placed all the pavers. After doing several home improvement projects on our home over the past 2 years, one trick I use to gauge the experience of a contractor team is to see how much talking is done. If I notice someone is constantly barking orders at the team, I can be fairly certain that there may be less experienced team members that need a lot of guidance. What surprised me about Aloha Pavers was actually how well they worked as a team - everyone knew their role and it was a pretty quiet team (compared to other contractors I've hired in the past). My wife and I wanted to redo our patio by getting pavers installed. We got a couple of quotes from a few companies, and felt the most comfortable feeling with Chad. He was very quick on his quote (unlike one company that was here for over 4 hours) and got us a sample to take a look at in person the next week. Once we decided on the color and style, I contacted Chad and we were able to schedule for Thursday. I made quite a few changes and Chad did a great job addressing them. Chad was there every step of the way and he and his crew were on site exactly at 7:00am like he said they would. For 533 square feet, they finished in two days which included the demolition of our concrete patio. The pavers turned out amazing. They do offer to seal when done, but after learning more about pavers, I would recommend holding off for a year to let the pavers efflorescence and that usually takes a year and then seal it. I got it done anyways since I have an older dog who has a tendency to go on our patio instead of the grass. There is only a couple of reasons why I knocked down a star, but it is very minor. It is more like a half star off. They undid the wiring of my sprinkler system during construction and to test, and when they finished the job, the wiring was incorrect. It was a quick fix, but a little annoying. The other thing was they removed my bistro lighting while working and didn't put it back up, but I totally understand this one since they do hang low and I didn't think of removing it for them. Overall, I highly recommend this business for the quality and customer service they have. read more

Where to start! First T.J. was awesome from the start he showed up when he said he would he did not pull any funny business he was honest and straight forward! That is ultimately why I hired him to do our entire front yard remodel! He did drive way and walk way up to the house in paver stones and all of the grass areas in synthetic grass and he built our pilasters. Price We received 4 bids on our front yard we threw out the highest and lowest for very different reasons that left a company that starts with the letter S and Aloha Pavers We selected Aloha because of T.J.'s Straight forward no non sense approach he took measurements told us about his products sat down and gave us a price explaining it all the way through giving us tons of references to go see and he told us to take our time and make sure we are happy with everything and call him when we want to do the work. This was very unlike the other company mentioned they were in my opinion used car sales men I'm going to leave it at that because I have a list a mile long on why not to use that company. Aloha's pricing was just above the lowest price but way below the S company by approximately 5K. Timing The whole remodel start to finish took 4 days! 4 days! Coming from a construction background this to me was unheard of! But my wife and I were incredibly blown away by the timing of this project. Cleanliness At the end of everyday they cleaned up the area no trash was laying around and stones were stacked everything was immaculate every night I would get home. Quality Everything T.J. said about the products he uses is true all of the stone is perfectly in line just as discussed when we sat with him to begin this project. The synthetic grass was installed and seamless it looks amazing. The fence is something he doesn't normally do but as a courtesy to us he found someone to help us out and build the fence along with his timeline and it looks amazing! In closing I have already recommended him to our neighbors across the street and T.J. did there front yard and back yard and it looks amazing. I will continue to recommend Aloha Pavers to all. After meeting with three paver companies, we hired Aloha Pavers for our backyard patio project. Our schedules didn't quite line up so TJ (the owner) met with just my wife, then just me, and later both of us together. It took us some discussion before we were able to agree on a vision, but TJ was very flexible to our changes and helped crystallize the final design. The quote itself was exactly what we were planning to spend, even though we never told him our budget. And speaking of money, TJ tells you up front how much everything will cost, and does not add on anything after. The work itself was excellent. The crew showed up at 7am each morning and worked until around 4:30 in the afternoon. These guys were incredibly fast. The demolished and hauled away the concrete in under an hour. Then they leveled the ground and dug up all the many tree roots and sprinklers (that we weren't planning to keep). They laid down all the various layers of sheeting, dirt, and rocks, and then laid most of the pavers all on day one! Next day was borders and building the stairs. Third day was finishing up and sealing. The whole thing took 2 1/2 days, ahead of the estimated 4 days. One thing I was very impressed with was how clean the crew kept everything, especially considering they were moving literally tons of material. As far as pavers, Aloha recommends Belgard brand, but will install basically anything as long as you are happy with it. After picking a few options, they bring over sample pavers for you to compare. We ultimately went with Belgard Lafitt Rustic Slab, and it looks great! Thanks TJ, thanks Aloha. We will call you again when we are ready to do our driveway project. read more
