Good poke bowl. I got the "Big" crunch bowl with brown rice and marinated salmon. Good ratio of ingredients (i.e., not too much rice), fresh taste (one those meals that tastes healthy but still flavorful), and just the right portion. It's quite dense actually, and I doubt you'd want the "Kahuna" (large) size unless you're sharing or planning on leftovers. I first tried the "Little" option, which, as the name implied, was little, so no issues there. But I do think the Little bowl is a bit overpriced for what you get ($9.25 without extras). I've tried both their salmon and tuna poke bowls and enjoyed both. You can choose "marinated" or "naked," and I personally prefer marinated. Naked was too dry for my taste. Overall, it's clear these bowls are fresh and have good ingredients. Would recommend. read more

I was in DC for the Tradeswomen Build Nations convention and always look for a local sushi or poke place to eat. This one was close to our hotel and my daughter and I went twice in two days because it was DELICIOUS! The young man working at the counter was very friendly, and he remembered us when we came back the second day. Loved the fresh ingredients and portion size and how easy it was to customize it just the way I like it. I will definitely go back if I end up in DC again. I haven't had a Poke bowl since the last time I was in Hawaii, and to much surprise Aloha Poke did not disappoint. I had a volcano bowl w salmon and zucchini noodles. All of the ingredients were fresh and very flavorful. Given the raw element involved it's crucial the ingredients are super fresh and they managed to do that which justifies the pricing. Its hit or miss here with the staff. First time I came here over 2 weeks ago the staff were soooooooo personable and explained the whole entire menu and what they recommended and were just so nice. But I went here last Friday with my sister and the staff *different team* weren't very friendly to be honest maybe the other team set the expectation too high. Anyways. The food was pretty good! My Aloha bowl was overly sweet and otherwise tasteless - and that includes the marinated tuna, which should have been the star of the show. Like nearly every new restaurant, it's build-a-bowl, this time in the ostensible style of poke. Base options include rice, seaweed, and kelp noodles. Protein choices are marinated tuna, unmarinated tuna, salmon, shrimp, and chicken. For sauces and accompaniments, you can choose from one of the standard options (Aloha, Crunch, or Volcano), or select your own. Located in the old Jamba Juice space, there's no indoor seating. If the weather is nice, outdoor wooden tables are available. read more

Super cute new lunch place near DuPont Circle! Food is very fresh, and I especially love that you can choose to get the fish marinated or naked. Quickly becoming my go to lunch spot! Haven't yet tried the miso soup, but looking forward to that next time. Update: the miso soup was good, not great. I got it without chicken. I've gone to the other Aloha Poke location and always had a good quick meal. Can't say the same about the Dupont location. I ordered a bowl with marinated fish & multiple sauces. Got naked fish + only one sauce. They remade it once, and I walked back to get it. Same issue. They refused to issue a refund or anything to make up for the order being wrong. I would love to know what these people put in their sauces - I was in the mood for Poke last night and got their largest bowl and wow! Fresh salmon, but the one thing that has me wanting to go back the very next day was the sauce - I got a mix of teriyaki and sweet&sour and although I've gotten the same thing from other Poke spots, Aloha's combo of the two has been the best by far. This little poke place is nestled down in the food court of Union station. I stopped by before catching my train and was happy to see the line was much shorter than others around it. The staff were incredibly kind and very patient as people decided what to add into their bowls ( which is most of my reason for giving them 4 stars). Since the place is small and orders are custom, I would suggest you be patient as it is going to take a little time to get your order. Since my train was leaving shortly after I received my bowl, I decided to wait until getting in the train before I dug in. The brown rice was frigid cold and, although I got rice seasoning, it lacked much flavor. Definitely not the most spectacular poke I've ever had, probably 3-star quality, but the staff was excellent and it was a very convenient location. I would not seek this place out in the future, but if I was in Union Station I would give it another try. read more

Super fast and super delicious! I got the little and it was the perfect portion size for me. For others it may be more of a snack size so if you are hungry go for the bigger sizes. The fish was fresh and I love that you can get it "naked". The sesame vinaigrette was really tasty but surprisingly on the sweeter side. I order from this place way too much. The food is great, and they are pretty fast since you order from the counter.

Only reason why 5 stars was not given is because the staff. Only the one staff member behind the main register was friendly. The other staff member was in front of the main entrance slouched over making it awkward to enter. Besides that this is my first time ever getting a poke bowl anywhere. I'm a huge fan of sushi so I figured I would try it out. Their ingredients taste fresh and the volcano sauce was just amazing. Thanks to a Yelp Elite event to another "poke place" nearby, Aloha Poke got the spillover and I was convinced to grab lunch here -- especially since BofA has a 10% cash back. I ordered online for pick up or just to streamline the queue and thank God I did because this place has NO INDOOR seating. They do have it outside but it was raining so that was not an option. I ordered the little poke bowl with one protein -- which I felt quite pricey compared to other competitors in the area. Literally, when they say "little" is very little. But at least, it was fulfilling for lunch. One thing I can assure you that their Siracha sauce is hotter than the usual one. I also realized that they did not put all the "toppings" I've selected (they say up to 14 online but I barely got all my selected toppings). I did not see any seaweed in my bowl but LOTS of ONION which I chose to opt out!! I also did not find that they marinated my salmon well. As I was eating, I remember, this was the Poke place in Chicago that tried to trademark/copyright their name "Aloha" -- heard this on NPR news while ago. Even Hawaiian people don't try to trademark the word "Aloha". Well what can I say, greed is never good my friend. Tried Aloha Poke since I was intrigued by the Ritual app $1 offer. Perhaps I'm used to chirashi rice, but I was really not impressed by the quality of rice in the poke bowl. I'm used to somewhat fresh, sticky rice, and the stuff in the bowl feels either under cooked (dry) or a day old leftover quality. The cut of the marinated tuna fish was cut along the 'vein' so it was chewy/spit out. Sadly I ate the edamame and seaweed topping and threw out most of it since it was not appetizing. read more

Wow! What a great new find for poke in DC. Admittedly I am a poke fan, and unfortunately my home town of Orlando just doesn't have a good "create your own" poke restaurant yet. Aloha is as good as it gets. The ability to choose your bowl size (small, big or kahuna), your greens or grains, your protein (chicken, tofu, salmon, tuna or shrimp), your add-ons, and your sauce means that there must be literally billions of possible combinations. My choice was a kahuna with seaweed salad and mixed greens, ahi tuna, salmon, and lots of add-ons. The sauce was samurai and it was sweet and savory (as advertised). Portion size is generous, and food quality is very high. Price point is reasonable as well. My only complaint is that the store is designed for take-out so there is no room to sit inside (that said, there is outdoor seating which we used, but it was a chilly night). I've had poke in multiple restaurants in DC and this one is the best! Can't wait to see how they grow. I came with a group of poke newbies (8 of us) who had all kinds of food concerns and every one of them LOVED this place. Go! You won't regret it! read more

EVERY MORNING and that is NOT an exaggeration. 11 am when it would open I'd get small bowl with white rice, marinated salmon, ginger, avocado, seaweed, cucumber, crunch, samurai sauce, edamame AND tobiko. I ate it so often that by the end of the year YES it DID make me just a little sick. It's simply simple and excellent. Service was unparalleled truly. As Aloha Poke is quite close to my workplace, I have been here a few times now and I love it! I think the bowls are a great deal for what you get. I have always gotten the medium size, which is more than enough for a lunch. You can choose your grain base, type of protein (I always go for the marinated salmon, which is great), and you can either choose as many toppings as you want (avocado 50 cents extra) or choose an option of topping combinations. Usually I choose one of those and modify it, which is also something you can do. The only downside of this place is that it's TINY with no indoor seating. I have been here when the line goes out the door before. But overall, the bowl is fresh, yummy, and comes out fast. Perfect for a quick stop for lunch. read more
