I have only been once for the $1 nigiri at happy hour but I was impressed with the choices they offer for $1 nigiri! And they were delicious so I'll definitely be coming back.

BUILD YOUR OWN 2 Protein(online)

I got this bowl delivered so maybe take this with a grain (or two of salt) - here we got a two protein make your own bowl with tuna and shrimp. the tuna had the weirdest, almost papery texture. flavor was fine but the texture was off. shrimp was solid and a decent portion - I absolutely loved how much ginger was added and the truffle vinaigrette was special. Definitely not a traditional poke dressing but had the perfect lightness to compliment the fish and just enough truffle to not overpower everything - pickled vegetables were quite fun, but definitely belonged more on a roasted meat sandwich than a poke bowl. - nothing objectively wrong but a very average mid bowl that left me wanting more. not a ton of flavor or especially fresh fish. fat fish is still the best poke ive had in DC

First time having udon and it was amazing! The staff are unbelievably kind and welcoming. Wish I lived in the area so I could go more often! The spring rolls are delicious too

BBQ Pork Saimin

I saw that there were other Hawaiian entrees and options here (besides poke), so I had to stop by if I'm already walking around in AdMo this past Saturday! The service here was very nice and friendly and I got my food pretty quickly (in and out within 30 minutes). PORK SAIMIN - 16 I am a huge sucker for dashi based broths. The broth was so flavorful, full of kelp and seafood base, tinge of sweetness, but it was much too salty. Like, unbearably salty. Every time I drank the broth, I would need to inhale two large gulps of water. There was a good amount of toppings in the saimin. Interesting to see lightly roasted pork and spam in noodle soups. The couple pieces of kamaboko (Japanese fish cakes) and tamago were nice touches. I love the amount of green onions they gave me (definitely not skimping here). Bokchoy provided a nice crunch. I really liked the super thin noodles (or "saimin") for its texture. Sadly, it soaked up way too much of the broth and was much too salty, so I ended up leaving half of the saimin because I couldn't keep eating it. My mouth was pretty dry for the rest of the day. Maybe it was just an off day?

I was visiting Washington, DC for a work trip and I was staying close by so I decided to walk around and find a spot for dinner and I am so glad I found this place. I had only tried Poke once before so I thought I would try it out they had a build-your-own poke option so I was able to add everything I wanted and it turned out delicious. The service was fast and attentive. They kindly answered some questions I had and prepared my food quickly. I would definitely encourage others to check this place out. Food Ordered: Build-your-own Poke Bowl -White rice -Salmon -Baby Shrimp (cooked) -Cucomber -Carrots -Edamame -Jalapeno -Radish -Garlic Miso -Avocado

ikura (salmon roe) nigiri, yellowtail scallion roll, eel roll, double salmon roll

I get takeout from here all the time and the sushi is so good! Reasonably priced rolls compared to a lot of other sushi places in DC. Always tastes good and fresh, and I really like their Ikura.

If you come here to only get sushi, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! (Also it seems like their sushi is equally good) I highly recommend the Hawaiian noodles (saimin). It's so flavorful yet not heavy. I'm sincerely considering this as my number one comfort food on a rainy day, sick day, or after holiday eating spree! Salmon ochazuke (salmon over rice, bathed in green tea) is just what I expected and how it should likely taste like when it's done right. Go try it first without the wasabi and then rub and dissolve half of the wasabi they provide in the dish. Now you got almost two different food! I would be excited to try more of their hot dishes and raw fish items in the future!

Abunai - Regular Poke/Salad Bowl

BUILD YOUR OWN BOWL (REGULAR) - 10 (12 on Uber Eats) +6 for 2x salmon +6 for 2x ahi tuna +1.50 for avocado I made my bowl with half sushi rice/half mixed greens, green onion, edamame, seaweed salad, furikake, masago, and sesame seeds. However, there were practically no masago in my bowl. I wanted to try a few sauces that sounded interesting, so I requested for the abunai, kabayaki, and garlic aioli sauce but specifically asked for it ON THE SIDE so the entire bowl wouldn't be overly saucy or soggy. Upon receiving, I saw that all the sauce was smothered in my bowl. I also got no utensils even though I requested some. At the end, I left half of the rice and mixed greens because it had way too much sauce which was incredibly overpowering. The quality of fish was fine, and I enjoyed it with the avocado. Meh. I think my experience would have been a lot more positive if the sauce was on the side for sure.

My husband and I both built our own poke bowls. Loved the options offered, and I loved my salad bowl. On the downside, although we both ordered the large size with double protein, it was a light meal (albeit delicious). Service wasn't great- we didn't get a text that our food was done and the employee didn't call out that our order was ready. After a 20 minute wait we asked if our order would be ready soon and it had been sitting on the back counter with the to go orders.

All of the seating is on the second floor, complete with a water station, utensils, and place to leave your dishes afterwards. I ordered the Curry Katsudon, which is the panko-breaded pork sirloin over rice. The breading was crispy and the pork itself was nicely done. The best part of this dish is undeniably the curry sauce which is flavorful, thick, and coats both the rice and the meat nicely. And naturally, I had to wash it all down with a bottle of green tea. I'd recommend Donburi for anyone looking to have a flavorful, no frills meal in a casual setting. 5/5

My order arrived with the full regular load of ginger. I attempted to find the person responsible but was directed instead to one of the owners who called me personally and we spoke about the importance of attention to detail with these type of issues. The owner assured me that it is just as important to him and his staff and I left that conversation feeling good that my concerns were addressed properly. Fast forward a few months later, and I place the same order for Sakedon as before and noted no ginger due to allergies. Not only did I get the same full load of ginger in my order but my second order of Donburi Moriwase was missing, but instead an order of Chicken Katsu Curry was in its place. I guess this was an "in-ordered replacement...or retaliation for expecting a business to do their due diligence with safety issues concerning orders? Not sure about that, but they sure didn't hesitate to take my money. As I stated earlier, the food is good for a decent price but this type of BS is part of the reason why people get fed up with establishments. I plan on taking this issue to the Health Department, but at least wanted to throw some caution to others out there. Good luck and watch very closely what is being thrown into your food.

Umai Nori - Sashimi platter was a 10/10

The layout is interesting -- there's an upstairs when you walk in, but the sushi bar and a good bit of seating are downstairs. The menu is pretty straightforward with a mix of hand rolls, appetizers, specialty rolls, nigiri/sashimi, and traditional rolls. They also have a few solid combo deals, though I usually prefer trying a variety of items instead. Service was quick, which is always appreciated at a sushi spot. We ordered a few specialty rolls, two traditional rolls, and a couple orders of sashimi, all served together on one platter. The rolls were a great size -- filling without being overly large. The sashimi was fresh, and the traditional rolls really balanced out the meal nicely. The flounder and tuna sashimi were both excellent, and the California roll made with real crab was simple, fresh, and really satisfying. The total came out somewhere in the $70 range, so after tip and splitting it between two people, it was about $40 each to try multiple rolls and sashimi. Definitely fair pricing for the quality and amount of food. This spot had been on my list for a while, so I'm glad I finally made it over. I'd recommend checking out the menu beforehand so you can go in with a game plan and try the items that stand out most to you.

I ordered the 5 set hand roll with Hottie scallop, Kanpachi, Torch me slowly, Spicy salmon and Mango Tango. I loved the flavors of each one but the wrapping was tricky. Some of the rolls wouldn't come off because the wrapping had a lot of moisture so I ended up just eating it deconstructed. I prefer how Kazu Nori gives you each roll one at a time to prevent this. Overall great hand rolls but it's super messy so I'd give it a 3.8/5.
