I'm a fussy and annoyingly picky eater when it comes to ramen (saimin) as my family some decades ago ran a ramen shop in a small sugarcane plantation town. Our noodles were so good that the recipe was used for years at a well known local saimin stand until recently. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen that was just under $10. Preparation was prompt and it came garnished with slices of char siu and fishcake, slivers of prepared bamboo shoots, nori, and chopped green onions. The broth looked good but lacked that rich creaminess that is present in a great tonkotsu broth. The noodles I'm guessing is a Sun Noodle product that lacked that springiness and chew when prepared correctly. I wonder aloud if what I ate was from a Sun Noodle Fresh Ramen Kit available in different flavors (including Tonkotsu). Tried to go in at 10:25, sign says open at 10. They weren't ready, so it was a bummer.

When I first went to this place a few weeks into their opening I didn't care for it but I know it takes some time for businesses to take off. The menu has slightly changed since then. I order the special combo which you can have a mini udon or ramen with your choice of one or two other dishes. My personal favorites are the pork fried rice and fish katsu. If I'm really hungry I get the special combo with both. It's a deal for under $12. If you get the one choice with your mini noodles it's even cheaper. I enjoy and have only tried the mini shoyu udon or mini shoyu ramen. You can eat there (at the outdoor food court area, no restaurant seating) or you can take out or even call in your order ahead of time. I recently went to a potluck and had the opportunity to try their chicken fried noodles which was good too so that's another good option for a party. All in all I'm glad I gave them a while to figure things out. This place has been consistent since then and perfect when I have a ramen craving. read more

Pretty good food here. Mochiko chicken was tasty. The ramen was like regular package saimin. It comes in a bowl of hearty curry sauce. It's based as a To-Go setting but you can eat there in the outside part of the mall. There's plenty of tables and chairs outside. My parents come here all the time. It's fast and easy. Delicious for what it was - noodles at the mall. I liked the to go container, it was very Efficient and mess free to transport. There was a charge for to go and I imagine if you have the time and ate it at the food court in the outdoor mall you may get a bigger portion it seems? We were planning to go to another place but it was closed, so we just searched nearby area and found this place. It is located in a food court and we actually didn't have much expectation. However, it turns out that we did indeed make a right choice. The ramen is very nice with some rare item choices like mapo tofu. Appetizers like chicken (forgot the name) and gyoza are also delicious. Certainly, it is not as fancy as other Japanese ramen restaurants in Oahu or other Hawaii islands, and the wait time is a little unusually long, but still it is worth to try it out, especially that there is so few good noodle places in Kauai. read more

Mmmm, this place is delicious. We stumbled upon the grand opening on our way to the airport, and I'm so glad we did. This is inside the shopping center food court and is closest to the right side entrance next to Ross. It took us a while to find it so I wanted to make sure to give the tip. It's better to eat there than to take out. The Tan-Tan Ramen was excellent. They grilled their pork so it's delicious! Also the Curry Chicken Katsu was really good too! This is some hole in the wall, food court place in an outdoors mall. If the terrible tasting food doesn't get you, maybe the endless flies buzzing around will. It was pretty hot and humid outside so my brother and I decided to go for the mochiko chicken curry plate and a side of kimchi. The kimchi was brown so I wasn't entirely sure if it was still good. It tasted fine but still seemed iffy. The mochiko chicken was a little burnt, hard to chew. My parents got the ramen/udon and they said it wasn't bad. I should've read the reviews on this place beforehand so I knew what to order.
