A line gathered quickly and people looked excited, so we looked at the menu while we waited our turn. There were plenty of tropical flavors, including some island favorites. The gentleman serving us was a master of his craft and he knew how to hype it up! We tried a few: a guava, a POG (pineapple orange guava) and a piña colada. But he recommended some extra flavors that really took the shave ice to another level, and finished them off with a snow cap (coconut cream) and a little mochi on the side. I came across Aloha Spirit at the Plumeria Festival at the Arboretum last weekend, during which the weather was sweltering. After watching a performance, I got in the long line for Aloha Spirit's shaved ice table with my two and four year old, and when we got to the front of the line and I ordered two shaved ice cups for my boys, the owner, Nate, threw in an extra for me, on the house. He was so friendly and charming even with the heat and the line. Nate's wife and son who were manning the shaved ice machines. We attended an Open House event today and I spotted Aloha Spirit's sign - Shave Ice, which is what we get in Hawaii. Since it was warm out we decided to hop in line to get one. My hubby and I figured we would share a small size, since typically, we've been disappointed with what we usually get here, which is more like a snow cone with crunchy ice. Well, I was totally wrong! The first clue that this was legit, was they called it Shave Ice. The second clue was the flavors they had - and they had a lot to choose from -- including lilikoi, pog, li hing mui .... island kine flavors! I picked pog/li hing mui - and the 3rd clue that this place was legit was when I was offered a snow cap - uh YES PLEASE!! That's when I should have said, change my small to a large!! This was one of the BEST shave ice I have had here on the mainland! It was that soft and fluffy snow and the flavors were amazing! It was DA KINE!! I was bummed that I was sharing it!!
