This was great restaurant. The atmosphere on the water overlooking the marina was great. We ordered a variety of food from stone crab, salads, tuna nachos, blackened grouper and seafood pasta. My wife and I returned from a snorkeling trip and were hungry. Alonzo's Oyster Bar was right there on the dock, overlooking the seaport. We shared an order of caviar oysters on the half shell, and they were yummy. I had the Mahi BLT and my wife had the clam chowder, they were both very good. Went here on the recommendation of my snorkel guide from Sebago (also recommend). Introduced my 15 yo son to raw oysters here. He tried the Pineapple Express (local FL variant) and didn't hate it! Count this as a win for him liking oysters! Had the hogfish and was impressed with the taste and texture. Wife tried the snapper and was very happy with her meal. We tried to order our entree with her and she said be right back and ten minutes later she came back and then they were out of the crab legs my wife wanted. She said I just put in the last order. Ok so I'm not a big seafood person, I know it's an oyster bar, but there were many options to replace shrimp with chicken which I thoroughly appreciated! My family and I got recommended this place by some of the tour guides for a snorkel place and they were very right. The waitress was nice and gave good recommendations for what to have when unsure. One of my family members says the hog fish is VERY good. There are many options on where to sit and no matter where you are you get a nice open vibe. The restaurant is situated right on the waterfront but you view is mostly that of million dollar boats moored at the piers - no real view of the water. None of us are drinkers, so the Happy Hour wasn't particularly important to us. Service was very good and our waitress was pleasant and efficent. I had the snapper with friees and cole slaw - the others in our party had a variety of entrees. The food was good but not exceptional for being a waterfront restaurant in Key West. Excellent spot for happy hour while out-n-about shopping in the downtown area. They have a gorgeous view of the docks, multimillion $$$ Yachts, and there is a Tarpon feeding area as well. FYI - feeding time is at 4pm. We were greeted and promptly seated. Our server, Sabina, was very friendly and efficient. She kept our drinks topped off and was overall very attentive. We ordered three appetizers off the happy hour menu. We decided on the conch fritters ($9), the shrimp tacos ($9), and the warm crab and shrimp dip with chips ($11). Our food was out in 15 minutes, and most everything was freshly made. Conch fritters had great flavor but they were a little gummy and chewy for our taste. The dipping sauce was on the spicy side so that's something to be on the lookout for. The warm crab and shrimp dip was very good but also had a little spiciness to it, the chips were good but not freshly made or kept in a warmer before delivery; however, you do receive a lot of them. The shrimp tacos were our favorite if I were to do this all over again, I would have just ordered three sets of shrimp tacos, they were delicious. The restaurant has a modern nautical theme without being to overly nautical. We loved the view from the dock area and outside seating section near the back of the restaurant. The biggest issue I noticed while I was here was the restroom was not being attended to. There was a lot of water on the floor and areas where someone could slip there was also a full roll of toilet paper just laying on the floor in the stall. We were here for a while taking a break from the heat so I made two stops to the restroom during our visit and on both stops I noticed nothing had been cleaned or mopped up. Wow. Cool place Right on the water We came here for happy hour around 4 pm Just in time for the tarpon feeding.! She said she feeds some little bits of Maui fish. Yum! We had the conch fritters.. What brought us in first was the perfect breeze blowing through their outdoor seating area! It was by far one of the best spots we ate outdoors at. The views are great and that breeze is sheer bliss on a hot summer day. We had the oysters and pretzels as nice little snacks and both hit the spot big time. Lots of good things about this place. It's located within the Key West Historic Seaport near many other restaurants, bars and things to do. They have a lot of outdoor seating with views of the water. The interior and restrooms were both clean and not terribly outdated. We didn't have to wait for a table, got seated outside right away on a Saturday evening during Memorial Day weekend. Our waitress was very attentive & quick. Lobster roll & mahi ruben were both delicious and the fries are truly something special. We also had the shrimp and lobster dip which was pretty good but nothing to write home about and I could say the same about the conch fritters. That aside, the prices for happy hour are unbeatable and the items on the happy hour menu are numerous. We chose Alonzo's because of the menu choices and location on the dock. After waiting about 20 minutes to be acknowledged by our server, I ordered the coconut shrimp which was delicious. My husband ordered the Avocado Crab salad which was very disappointing because there weren't any avocados. Just a huge pile of lettuce with a couple slices of tomato and cucumber and a few spoonfuls of crab meat. We notified the server and she said they were all out of avocados. The salad cost $26! We asked for a discount since one of the main ingredients was avocado. The manager gave us a $2 discount. No apologies or a visit. Very disappointing! read more

Carol the hostess was amazing right away sat us down. We had gotten a few suggestions from businesses along the way my husband and I shared lunch. We had the fried calamari the wings and the mahi-mahi tacos. Everything was delicious. We sat outside because it is Valentines and we wanted to get some air instead of being inside it was perfect. I quite enjoyed my visit to Alonzo's during a recent Key West trip. So much so, that I almost wanted to return a second time despite it being only a long weekend visit! Situated right on the water, Alonzo's offers a chill atmosphere and nearly unbeatable fish dishes. I also had my favorite drink of the vacation there: their key lime pie martini. So freaking good, especially with the graham cracker rim! We started with their smoked fish dip, which was tasty. My friend and I split the hogfish entree, which came with a heaping portion of green beans and mashed potatoes. It was my first time trying hogfish ever, and I was impressed. I also tried a bite of my friend's husband's snapper stack and oh my gosh, now I have such a craving for snapper. Can't find it anywhere near me at home in Virginia, though, sadly! Alonzo's has a pretty open-air vibe. The space seemed clean and spacious, service was friendly, and I wouldn't hesitate to return on future trips to the island. read more

My friends split a few dishes like nachos and oysters, but I got my own dish -- a Caesar salad with blackened shrimp. I got a hefty amount of shrimp which is always the best feeling! The one thing keeping me from giving an extra star is that the prices were a little more than I'm normally comfortable paying. Living up in the Tampa Bay area, I'm a big seafood girlie, but not at those prices. Also, the restaurant doesn't allow "multiple bills" when it's time to pay, and that was just kind of a headache. If this place were $10 less per dish, id give it 5 stars They seemed touristy and the entrees come with 1 lbs of green beans which don't get me wrong, I definitely didn't eat enough vegetables this trip but the plate is 80% green beans The coconut grouper for $38 was ok tasting. Grouper a little overcooked but flavor was nice Half the beans were crispy and half squishy The potato cake was very dense but bland For almost $40, I expected better. Also, I couldn't taste any coconut The scallops came with 3 large scallops for $42 and the scallops were great. Cooked very well and seasoned well but again 1 lbs of green beans + 3 huge portions of mashed potatoes (maybe 1.5 cups of potatoes) but at least they had some seasoning to them The server was very friendly and since they don't honor the yelp coupon for check-in (perhaps they could just remove it but ya know), the manager gave us a coupon for a free Bellini anyway which was very nice of them and definitely contributed to the 4 stars Oysters were definitely the star. If I wasn't pregnant, we'd have gotten raw oysters a plenty and nothing else. They have quite the variety and seem to shine on the seafood platters. We got some baked oysters and they were all good! The buffalo did have some kick to it which was a pleasant surprise. The random corn salad was quite tasty, as well. Overall, food was average. View was great. Service was good. 4.5 stars for delicious food, beautiful scenery on the waterfront, and decent drinks. I'm rounding up to 5 only because how they treat locals, and show love to locals once a month when no other restaurants around do this. (Except in September, but Alonzo's is kind all year long!) As a local, I keep coming back every month and will support this restaurant! My absolute favorite dishes are the SNAPPER STACK and the COCONUT CRUSTED GROUPER. both are huge portions of fish, piled high with toppings and potato's and veggies, it's just phenomenal. Bravo chef, it's sooo delicious. Oh, and how can I forget about the rich creamy totally amazing lobster Mac & cheese!??? I love their Mac n cheese!! I wish I could get it as a side dish but it's an entree only. If I'm feeling frugal, my next favorite option is the southwest chicken bowl. It's a lot of good food, and fills me up at a lesser price. It's deceiving cause it's not served in a bowl, it's on a plate, but the food is still great! The oysters are always delicious, and they have several options to choose from. They also have oyster shooters, and I'm from Maryland where we pride ourselves on crabs & oyster shooters.. that being said I did NOT like Alonzo's oyster shooters.
